8:01 am
day, when was the last time i went to the doctor? >> when was the last time you went to the doctor, this is for guys, these two question as and whats what your first car. >> and i knew the answer to both. we're going to be talking about that today. let's take a live look outside. it's flag day today so if you have a flag at your house, send us a picture of your flag that may be outside one of your front doors. gorgeous weather. we're going to get over to t dave warren in just a second. but first here's a question. high everybody at fox 29 weekend, it was hot and humid the last couple of days and today we're having some people over for a barbeque. are the conditions going to be nice for us to have the barbeque outside or are we going to to have to take it inside. >> he tweets us often. he comes from cherry hill. we'll focus on that area. look at the timing here, 1:00
8:02 am
sunday and clouds by 4, 5, 6:00, 7:00 we're talking about storms. some of these storms could be strong later today, so they won't be every where, but they could be widespread. you might want to keep that in mind as you plan your activities. it's cleared off. this came through dover, kent county, cape may county, some flooding because this was very heavy rain in a shorter p of time and it's forming along this line here. you can see a few showers up towards lancaster county and western burkes county. humidity dropped yesterday, it comes back today and this could be the focus before a few showers and thunderstorms. a few light showers before now and noon. that's along that front, but then it breaks up a bit. it's heating up. here come the storms developing, between 5 and 7:00. this could be some strong gusty winds as the storm coming through. moving into the western county so that will continue to push
8:03 am
through here between the afternoon and the opening. the later in the day you go the better chance you have of these strong thunderstorms moving through. see if they stick around for the rest of the workweek. i'll talk about a bit later. we have an absolutely massive water main break. there's a clear say term we use in the news business, it is actually turning roads into rivers. sabina karakose is there. no acknowledge exaggeration. take a look out here at the scene, you can see the water has receded to recess a little bit. it was gushing from the 36 main that burst. 4 people were evacuated, including one child there on buses right now. we know that nine houses were evacuated with those people inside. the american red cross is assisting and the other homes in
8:04 am
this area many of have them be told to sheller in place by the fire department goes through and does its work. this all happened about 4:30 this morning. we know that several basements have been flood as well as cars. we were inside one woman's house this morning, the water right up to the top step of her basement. her washer was floating around. we are joined by john did i jewel owe from the water department. tell us exactly what the situation was. this morning we were about 4:30. crews responsibilitied out here immediately and began to shut this main down. we have other partner agencies out here. fire department, police department, red cross, oem we're working to get a handle on the situation. the water main, when it broke we did start receiving some calls of low pressure. we asked if any pressure to call us at 215.
8:05 am
205-6300. that way we know where our issues are with the low pressure. we have a claims adjustor to site right now we're trying to get into properties, assess the damage. and we'll he be out here through the day of the day working to get this shutdown, cleaned up and assessing the damage. >> it looks like it will be a whole day of cleanup. tell us what you think the cause may be. >> once we get a chance to inspect it, see if there is anything that we could easily identify as a cause to do this we will do so. at the moment we can't say anything about that. how much water and the force of that water, we're on a hill now, so it's rushing down to the bottom of the hill. >> sure. it carryies several gallons of gallons of water a day. at the highest rate it was 120 million-gallons a day so you had a very large volume of water
8:06 am
sort of meeting right at the bottom of the hill so the water is receding we're getting a chance to assess what is down there as well, talk to people down there and see if we can help them with. > 14 people evacuated from their house, nine homes evacuated, the water department, fire department getting this water main break under con l role. >> thanks sabina. water can do tremendous damage. looking at your news two men are found dead inside a port richmond home. when police first got there they were actually shocked. it was a very tense situation. it read to a two-hour stand off. it was at this home at the 3500 block of em regard street. initially there was just shots fired. that was the call. they get out there and someone fires at them. they pause for ament month. they call in swath, eventually they send a robot into the house to hear earshot ands that when they discovered there were two men both dead inside.
8:07 am
they do believe ones what the shooting. the police never fired a shot, but i was very tense for a long period of time and for two brothers that were in that area. >> as soon as we pulled up we heard shots fired at our vehicle. we could seeship role coming off the side of our vehicle. we immediately took cover. i heard two shots, i saw the cops jumping over the car heading back behind our car. police are not releasing the names of the men who died or the circumstances that led to that shooting. also new this morning, police are investigating a murder in the fair hill section of philadelphia. officers were called out to the 1700 block of east fair street. this was around 4 this morning. they say they found a victim in the street shot four times, no arrests so far. coming up, men do you remember the last time you went to the doctor? chances you remember your first car better. how some doctors want to change
8:08 am
that. plus an unusual slow speed pursuit. what happens when this elderly woman finally comes to a stop on the side of the road. hi, i'm bruce jordan, we learned this week that the philadelphia 76ers will no longer play layer home basketball games at the wells fargo center. no, the team is not moving from their long time home in south philly. but frankly who would notice if they did. instead the team has decided since wells fargo is not a corporate sponsor of theirs they will no longer use the bank's name in their promotional materials and on their website. instead they will describe the billing as their home arena. my take once upon a time we named our sports venue after important people, the phillies at con i mack and then one day sports team opener got a bright
8:09 am
idea, they could make mills of extra dollars every year simply by renaming their venue for whatever corporate entity was willing to pay for the right to slap their logo over the front door. overnight iconic arenas all over the country started sounding like bang branches and because bangs so often get bought out, it has gone from the corps state to the first union to the wachovia center and wells fargo can. most of us have gone around using court name our description and in the process giving that bang a free commercial of sorts just because they paid someone else for the naming rights. now it sounds like the sixers are saying no more. if you don't sponsor us, we won't mention your name. i kind of like it. it's kind of a bold move. the upshot wells fargo bank will no longer be promotional link to

welcome back at 8:12. take a look at your headlines right now. there's a 67 year old man who was minding his own business he says when he was punched out at a walmart. surveillance cameras caught the attack in san antonio, texas. the man was punched so hard he was knocked to the ground. he says he never said a word to
8:13 am
the attackment he has no idea why the guy hit him. police are trying to find him offering a $5,000 reward. look at the video, minding your business, you get punched. there's a toddler rushed to the hospital after she was accidentally struck with a police taser. that's the suspect. that's why we're showing you his picture. this all happened in the town of vin ton, ohio. the guy locked himself in the home on thursday with two kids, a five year old and a 20-month old. the five year old manages to get free, but when the police try to get the guy to hand over the baby he puts up a fight. police say he used the little girl as a shield from their taser. investigators say they later found a woman in the home who appeared to have been beaten. the little girl is expected to be okay. that guy, he's behind bars. >> where he needs to be. >> six more detainees are released from the prison at can't ton mow bay. this is the first transfer of

detainees in five months. the men all from yes men were flown to the country of yeah man. they were not flown to yes men because of the instability there. one apparently had ties to bin laden's religious advisor. severe flooding leads to at least eight debts in deaths in the country of georgia. heavy rainfall turned a rainfall into a to rent. animals from the city zoos, including lie than ons, hip owes, tigers they all escaped from their cages during the flood. the flooding has done at least $10 million in damage. > the cover story this morning, a local man helping out in nepal. it has been two months since that country was rocked by a devastating earthquake. there have been so many set backs. they just dealt with some deadly land slides last week and the

government asked for 6 and a half billion dollar for international aid. this is to help the families of nearly 9,000 people killed. so many people are talking about this and how to donate and how to help. we actually have someone from our area who is on the ground there now and is joining us by skype. bob myers he is the director of the emergency services for the salvation army, earn pennsylvania and delaware division. good morning to you. good morning, what have you been doing there? we have been doing emergency release services up to noint, concentrating on food and shelter. we've to date distributed over 200,000 pounds of food along with over 2,000 tarps and just yesterday got customs clearance for a shipment of 1,000 to give
8:16 am
some folks a little bit stable housing which will be quickly upon us here. what is it like there? >> it's very interesting because it's a very diverse country, a very metropolitan area and city, cat man due. you don't go too far outside of cat man due and it becomes a very rural mounts and that leads to some of the complications with land slides being a constant fear and still experiencing after shocks. we had two after shocks which were over 5.0 and so with debris on the ground in a lot of the rural villages and the rainy season having begun that presents new challenges every day. how long do you expect you're going to be there? >> i will be here through the end of june, but the salvation army's work here will probably
8:17 am
continue to for years to come. we probably will be doing some sort of relieve forth next couple of months and that will change in the more development services so we can get in on some work projects and things along those lines. we are still in the emergency relief face right now, but over the summer months that will start to transition, hopefully to get folks in more permanent shelter situations before the upcoming winter season. we certainly do hope that. it was such a beautiful and amazing country all of the mountains and the diverse people there. are there other members from our team here, the greater delaware valley here. >> no, i'm the only one from -- actually, from the us right now. we have a large contingent from pakistan. we have a team member from the uk. we've had other folks from the us, from the west coast that had been serving with us that had recently gone home. we're expecting a new team member from new zealand to come
8:18 am
in. we have someone from india, which is obviously a very close geographical area to where we're at and certainly locals on the ground that really do the hard part for us, helping with distributions and translation i with is obviously a must for those of us that aren't from the local area. > we really appreciate your hard work over there and thank you for what you are doing for your volunteerism and all of your efforts. thank you. >> thank you. > let us know, the situation is such a difficult one. we have the ongoing crisis. let us know what your thoughts are. use our hashtag, fox 29 weekend. > that's did to look at seeing that many da age. we're going to take a look out atlantic city. it looks nice out there. it doesn't seem like it's souper hot out there. a good day to go to the beach. >> if you're a little farther south, don't worry. they had some rain. the rain has cleared out. it
8:19 am
looks like it will turn out to be a nice day. showers and storms through delaware and cape may county and delaware beaches but things have cleared out since then. temperatures are a little warm this morning again up into the upper 70s. 73 in pottstown. it's cooler in mount pocono. slight and wildwood into the 70s. it's the move that moved through. just off the coast of cape may april just off of the delaware beaches there. its moving out. moving away. we're seeing a little break right now in cape may. atlantic city looks nice. it caused some flooding across delaware and it was right along this line where we're still seeing a few showers developing up through lancaster county into chester county and all the way up to williamsport, pa. this is warm humid air that pushed south. along that line here we could see a few more showers this morning. that's what's picked up by the
8:20 am
weather computer. by 4:00 things get interesting. showers and strong storms will be approaching from the western suburbs as it typically starts to bow out there, take a little curve shape through allentown and philadelphia. thinks the computer forecast picking up the line that is trying to get organized. we could see some many da age with the storms as they move through with the storms between 6 and 8:00. there's a slight risk for severe weather again tomorrow and tuesday we also have this slight risk. so stormy weather in the forecast. today we have just a few showers in the morning. a little cooler this afternoon with sunshine. strong severe storms later up to 88-degrees. it's getting warm and mug guy and overnight 72 in the city, 68 in the suburbs, more and more showers, but there's one or two tries in the seven day forecast. thanks a lot, dave. the race for president in 2016 seems to be heating up now. we got like a million people

sunday morning. we got this comment from vincent. i was asking when was the last time you went to the doctor and what was your first car. this is for men specifically. >> i get a physical once a year. i just buried a friend yesterday with prostate cancer. we're so sorry about that one. > joe sent us a picture of a flag. >> a the look of you went to the barry manilow and the taylor swift concert. that's actually my sister. she loves her tailor and many of you do, too. let's check in with mike anal ex. >> this is the trend. so for our first video it's been shared more than hundred thousand times on u tube. you'll see why, this little girl at her dance recital demanded respect. >> oh, yeah.
8:25 am

8:26 am
taylor swift tweeted about it. she loved it. she said i love cinnaminson high school. nicely done, kids. also in her honor, on good day philadelphia earlier this week we did our own version of bad blood. massachusetts general. he broke his leg cycling near the french alps about two weeks ago. he had surgery to repair his leg, his femur. during his recovery has been in constant talks and members of canada how to move forward with talks against iran. men may be more interested in their cars than their own health. in fact, more than 80s p of men can remember the make and model of their first car, but only half can remember the last time they went to the doctor to get a checkup. we've got some surgeons who are some of the top surgeons in the country on a cross country road trip in terms to get men to go to the doctor. i'm outside, a selfie stick. we kind of wanted to prop it up because we wanted to be able to show this car, the pool test lancaster. what these doctor have done.
8:32 am
you wanted to couple some of the things men enjoy, maybe the car and are not staying on top of their health. what is the point of this, i'm calling you dr. p and dr. b. we're traveling over 6,000 miles over 10 days. this is anyway dower. we start off from central florida, going from there to new york. we're trying to drive the change in men's health. men don't care about themselves as much as they should. if you look at the top 10 causes of deaths in the united states men are more likely to die from nine of them. i don't know if it's we don't care. when you see a cool car like this, men are coming up and asking questions and then you can educate as well. we seem to be focused in our cause. what we're trying to do is spread the message it's great to take care of our cars and have fun with the cars and toys, but
8:33 am
let's do a double take and make an appointment to see a doctor. you're handling things local limit i'll dr. paul gettings. we're handling the philadelphia drive. we're going to have an event at 6:30 to 7. tell me what i'm seeing because i care about my health, but i may be one of the ones that cares about the cars, too. this is a test on the all electric car. it's a total go green kind of car and it sympathizes technology, cherry hill jinx the norms, thinking on the side the box and we thought what a greater symbol for mens' health drive. we did a survey of a thousand men and we asked two simple questions, what was the make and model of your last car and the other one was when was your last doctor's appointment. through the orlando health survey over 80 remembered the make and model of their car and
8:34 am
about half remembered last doctor's appointment. we're hoping to change the statistics. so more men remember the date of their last appointment rather than the make and model of their last car. you can follow us for the next ten days, see where we're out. please come out and see us. come out to philly, support for sexual medicine. send it back into the studio. i'm going to take the car and hopefully focus on my health, too. billion is such a car guy. thank you, gentlemen. we're getting so many good comments. i guess someone sent in a 1968 ford fare links. got of good cars. look at that the pocono mountains. everybody in the pool. that's amazing. it looks like glass the way it's reflecting up there. dave warren, did we actually get

8:36 am
jumping off the ferry. the escape the cape is underway there, the try etalon. that picture taking part of that. that's the start of the sprint distance. they go about a mile or a third of a mile. quite a site there. cape may is clear. the skies are cloudy, but showers and storms have moved out. they had on storms last night. rain was moving through dover. it was fairly heavy. did cause some flooding there. it's the afternoon that we're focusing on the storms moving in from harrisburg into the western suburbs. gusty winds and some small hail. that's not the end of it they could continue by overnight tonight and that's the cooler dry air coming in and that could lead to showers and storms popping up again tomorrow. not only today, again tomorrow and on tuesdays as well.
8:37 am
talking about the temperatures now. still fairly mild, 77. very light being, no breeze like yesterday and the dewpoints up to 67 and the mugginess is coming back in the air. a little l cooler up in the north and western suburbs. philadelphia is at 77 and to the south we are at the south in cape may. mid 70s down the shore. we'll talk about the thunderstorms and see how long they last in the seven-day forecast. thanks so much dave. this one, karen is a first for one state trooper of he pulls over an elderly woman in a motorized cart. random acts of kindness. we'll be back.

have you been bargain hunting this weekend? a new study out of rutgers school of business in camden says if you love a deal, odds are your mom and dad do, too. the paper is published in psychology and marketing. researchers looked at 83 groups of kids and their parents. our dr. mike explains what they found. this new study indicates that if you had parents who were bargain hunters, got excited about driving 10 miles to get a bargain, then you may inherit the same approach to getting deals. why? when you observe your parents doing this behavior it gives them such a satisfaction it makes you feel good and therefore, you may perpetuate this for generations to come. but all in all, if you can save some money here and there, not a bad thing to do. advice from dr. mike. also not a bad thing, it's always good.
