7:03 am
live look at the blue route where we are socked in with some fog as we roll out of saint david/villanova heading down towards the schuylkill expressway. the 42 freeway, delays coming in toward philadelphia as you work your way up toward i295 and we are fog in on that i-95 corridor and northeast philadelphia from academy road all the way down through to girard avenue. put 40 minutes on the clock there. fog also out in downingtown, long the bypass, as you work your way in toward malvern and we are seeing delays on 202. 295 northbound, a disable tractor trailer right at moorestown interchange, it is blocking the off ramp for route 38 there in moorestown. inbound on the schuylkill a 23 minute trip just under a half an hour south on i-95 with the fog. watch for possible fog delays today at philly interested in otherwise mass transit is looking good with no delays over there. boy a huge fire burns in the middle of the west chester. >> this was late last night. steve keeley is live there
7:04 am
this morning with more on the clean up, steve? >> reporter: we can see no effects on west chester traffic. i didn't know they had traffic jams in west chester but you can see market street just as busy as market street center city philly at seems. three lanes of traffic going. that is one good sign that life is almost normal here. a lot of people looking to the left when they made a red light here looking at big building that burns. from the outside it looks like good old brick building is intact but you can see the guy up on the roof where the roofies just shredded away and these flames shot through here. you can see daylight now. here's a look back in the few hours in the dark at 9:00 when this thing was first called into the fire department n1 hurt here because no one lives here. it is all businesses, and office's above the businesses, and one guy was in one of the offices. he made sure that no one else was in the offices. mark is his name. he has been working late around 9:00. he smelled smoke. did he his own little
7:05 am
investigation and got in action and got the fire department here soon. >> do you think it started in the air conditioning unit. >> right up there, air conditioning unit, right there. i'm not a fire marshall but that is where would i say. >> reporter: you saw smoke pouring out of there i walk up to the fourth floor and it was covering the whole floor. i went in an hour an a half ago and you can tell where fire was. >> there is be in living in that building. >> it is all commercial. >> reporter: all four or a lot of vacant see. >> it is, it was 9:00 p.m., so, it was just us and the bank. everybody was gone for the day. >> reporter: i meant was it all leased out. >> it is probably 75, 80 percent, you know, the fourth section here is occupied but that is bit. >> reporter: good thing you work late. if you hadn't been in the building they wouldn't have gotten a call as early as they do. >> i lost my lap top, phone, but that is good report you got out right away, you are like the living breathing example of what to do a lot of
7:06 am
people work late. i wanted to make sure nobody was up there once i check that out i knew where to go. i almost lost a flip flip on the way out but, you know, we're good. >> reporter: part of the conversation with mark thompson who knows what to put first and that is lives, before cell phones and lap tops and again, he gets an updated latest computer and latest cell phone now as one of the advantages of not worrying about his personal possessions and just making sure everybody got out. as soon as he got upper floors all clear he knew no one was in there. you could see new haven pizza on one corner of the building which was still opened and everybody smelled pizza. they didn't know there was fire above. he made sure those people were all safe. then we have the bank on this corner here closed for the day. it is their accounting offices up on the third floor. so, hopefully they have it all backed up on the computer. and then to the left, probably a spot where mike spend his take home, kaplan as fine jewelry and gold and diamonds. you have to get a lot of fire to melt them. they look like they are intact
7:07 am
but they have probably some water damage in the showroom. next time you come. >> i love kaplan. the smell all over the place, all over town like smoke. >> reporter: it did earlier and it doesn't anymore. it just smells like a typical spring morning, early summer morning with this humidity. >> they do a good job getting this building all sealed up. lot at shoulders. they are not burned but, if it wasn't for the roof and boarded up windows you could see a lot of the second floor still has glass even and even third floor windows still have the glass and blinds but this thing really spread. when lou at the video it was all other the building. it almost played hopscotch throughout this building with the way the windows are, every or window is boarded up and broken up. >> you almost cannot tell. >> very famous building in that town. 7:07. well, five people are dead, after a balcony collapse. this is early this morning, in
7:08 am
berkley, california. the collapse happened at an apartment building. officials say five other people were injured, in this collapse. they suffered life threatening injuries. we're just getting this in. we will get more details. we will tell you exactly where it was. police say a group of home invasion suspects knew what they were going after when they targeted a family in marple township delaware county. >> it kind of sound familiar from the past. the family owns a bar, and police say that four men hit the home, on old cedar road just after 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon. the family was roughed up, and jewelry and money was stolen from a safe, before the men took off. a police officer spotted the suspects getaway car about ten blocks away. then they have jumped out, tried to escape on foot but three of them were caught, one is on the loose. >> i don't know if they were followed there today or whether they were followed there before. we will hopefully ascertain that as the investigation moves forward, but we
7:09 am
definitely think that the individuals knew that they were going to hit the jackpot when they got into that house. >> he also said they think they know who the fourth suspect is. back in 2008 marple police had three home invasions in the week and ten days. common threat here, the chief said is asian business owners. 7:09. happening today representatives of the septa, amtrak and philadelphia international airport will join with mayor nutter at city hall to discuss transportation during world meeting of families this september. this is a philadelphia delegation during their visit to the vatican in march of 2014. authorities know measures must be taken to ensure that the influx of visitors does not interest fear with travel plans of those who live and work here in the city. >> okay. well, kid will get out early today around noon. five hours from now. >> see, look at you. >> i was great at math in the school. >> temperatures are expect to climb so high today. so, that is right, how many
7:10 am
hours? >> five hours. >> noon time today. >> so jenny is on this story over at the school district headquarters. hello, jenny. >> reporter: good morning. you said climb, and sue serio is talking about climbing as high as 90 degrees. the school district of fill says that is just too hot. not all of the schools have air conditioning. yesterday we were out and talking to parents. they found out about today's early dismissal yesterday afternoon and the advanced notice was absolutely appreciated, giving them enough time to make arrangements for the children. this is the second time in just a few days that the classes were dismissed by noon because of the heat on friday, students also had an early dismissal. the schools without air conditioning rely on fans but it is not always enough. parents that we talked to are supportive of the decision. >> i think it is necessary for schools to let children out early. i think with substantial notice so parents can make sure their children have proper supervision after school, you know, i think that is the most important thing. >> i think that is good.
7:11 am
it is just too hot. these kids can be passing out because of heat stroke and stuff. nobody want that. >> if the schools are not air conditioned you are taking a risk of children getting sick or other ailments, within the air, so it is just really important that parents watch the news and know what is going on. >> the decision was made for the safety of the children, and it is not even officially in summer. we have caught some students out there in the fountains trying to find a way to cool off because it has been so hot and so humid. well, they have a few more days left of school. the last day of school is thursday. we have been talking, i know there are graduation ceremonies, scheduled for tonight, the school district says that schools are allowed to stay opened, but it is up to each school to deciding whether or not it makes sense to go on with the ceremony today, mike and alex. >> okay, thank you for that. 7:11. the president of the spokane washington naacp steps down following a uproar over her racial identity. her race came into question after parents recently said
7:12 am
she falsely portrayed herself as black for years they say dolezal is white. city of spokane is investigating whether she lied about her ethnic background when she applied to be on the police force. dolezal's mother is a says her family ancestry is check, sweet esche and german. she still has in the spoke been her identity or her race, just yet. >> can't wait for that interview, um. >> yeah. takata air bag recall is bigger. honda owners listen up. more than a million vehicles recalled for driver side air bags by to cat air being recalled again because of the potential flaw with the passenger side air bags. recall involves civics made between 2001 through 2005 and honda accord manufactured between 2003 and 2007. >> like i said about two weeks ago just recall every car in the world. >> that is what it sound like my goodness. according to the "fox news" exclusive army sergeant and accused desserter bowe bergdahl was apparently high with a small group of afghan
7:13 am
soldiers when they were captured six years ago. >> it was during a 2009 mission to rescue, a western journalist, the united states, army found out that the american along with two or three afghan soldiers were being held by afghan nomads. soon afterwards he was sold to a terrorist network across the border in pakistan. so the white house has not said whether this new information would have factored in the decision to swap bowe bergdahl for five taliban members being held in guantanamo bay. well, listen to this, al qaeda does confirm now its number two man in charge has been killed by a u.s. air strike. terror group released a video statements confirming the deaths and naming a new leader. the member killed was a leader of the powerful yemen a filth and he once served as, osama bin lad up's personal cemetery.
7:14 am
this was the biggest kill by a air strike since obama bin laden was killed by the navy seals. all right. 7:14. never too early to go to sue serio. >> you can never rule out a pop up then are storm. >> no. >> that will be happening later on today. we will see how thick the air is, outside, we will see the haze, this week, try to look up market street. we look from our vantage point. lets look ahead over the next couple of days. today heat index will be in the upper 90's, which is why, philly schools closed, decided to close early today. scattered strong storms, most of them in the afternoon, tomorrow though a break from the high humidity, temperatures in the mid 80's and rest of the week unsettled weather returns, it will be very hot, on fathers day, at least in the lower 90's, maybe even hotter. so visibility is an issue this morning. fog could slow you down especially in the lehigh valley, around pottstown, other parts of the montgomery county, bucks county, and trenton, we're socked in with fog there, fort dix, atlantic
7:15 am
city, it is very foggy and reduced visibility at philly international this morning. temperatures are in the mid 70's, it is very soupy out there. zero seven in mount pocono. 67 degrees in trenton. and it is 76 degrees, sticky degrees in wilmington. future temperatures, well, we're into the upper 80's and 90's for the rest of the day to day but it will feel like about 97, 98, 99, with that 90-. that is how humid it is outside. 85 degrees tomorrow. a as we just told you a break from the humidity. now thursday, scattered showers, are around with another system. we will dry out briefly on friday, but the humidity is back. we're not completely dry then. late day showers and thunderstorms on saturday and a few storms around on sunday but for fathers day and appropriately i suppose for the first day of summer, temperatures in the 90's and the heat index, is even higher. so, plan to do something in air conditioning perhaps on sunday. i know your plan toys take a nap.
7:16 am
>> definitely take a nap. god bless you owe there, on you okay. >> 7:15. live look at route 309, near 202 an example of the fog that we're dealing with right here this morning. the sunnies trying to pop out here. you can see shadows on the cars heading northbound on the blue route heading in toward the baltimore pike but we're still socked in with some fog along the benny up and over in downtown philly. bridges have reduced speed because of the fog this morning. also a delay coming out of the collegeville and royersford. eastbound lanes of 422. guess what today is. >> it is tuesday. >> it is tuesday. >> it is also. >> national contact knoll i day. >> look at this, all of the different flavors here we have down there. >> we have a bunch coming in. >> i know we have a bunch, tito's give away free cannoli's today. they have put into a new boarding location at 69th street all because of construction, and they are shuttle bus ago long the 15,
7:17 am
101, 102 for next month and a half or so. mike and alex, back over to you. it is 7:17. >> for the third time in six years, chicago black hawks are stanley cup champions. the black hawks, finish off, last night in game six in their best of seven series. >> that would be tampa bay lightening. duncan keith scores winning goal in the hawks two to nothing win. he took home the playoff mvp. >> so this stanley cup victory was especially sweet. >> sweet. >> sweet, sweet for one black hawks player. you were talking about him earlier. >> you know this former flyer, kimmo was with the flyers for what, seven years. he got a stanley cup. how about that. this is the first stanley cup championship for 40 year-old defenseman. he was trade todd chicago midway through this season. he was almost forced to retire last summer when he developed blood clots. kimmo says he is now planning
7:18 am
to retire. what a great moment. >> i have been dreaming about this moment for a long time, it is right here, this game has given me so much i'm really happy, ready, to leave this game and i'm leaving this game as a stanley cup champion. >> how about that. >> we trade him and he become a champion. >> he goes out on top. >> good for him. >> 7:18. air travel can be tough on all of us even if you are a stanley cup. >> that is right. so, the keeper of the stanley cup shared images of the trophy traveling before the game on twitter. it is stuffed in that trunk for safe keeping but here's a look as it goes through the x-ray, i'm sure all of the alarms goes off. sorry, you need to step inside we need to examine your trunk. >> is there a liquid in that cup. they like to drink out of it, you know. it mate i had to the stadium
7:19 am
just fine. it is 7:18. >> forced to pick between his job and medicine he needs a man in colorado is fired for using medical marijuana, what does this mean for the rest of the country how a case in colorado can impact you right here. >> i thought it was legal to use marijuana in colorado but federal law is the problem. >> oh, and fathers day, of course is this sunday, when it comes to raising our children, who really does influence you the most. parents? our parents do play a role but is it the dad or mom who is most influential lets say over you as a daughter. speaking of that, father's day pledge to end gender violence. that is what we are setting up for. we will get this table ready. we will get pens out, pledge paper out. they will do this very same thing tomorrow night at the phillies game. i will explain, what this is all about after the break. if you want a paint with no harsh fumes.
7:22 am
7:23 am
look at that. >> yes. >> 7:23. >> so how do you unlock your phone, mike. >> how did i say that. >> new you way to unlock your phone. >> there is. >> yes, there is. >> i'm all ears. >> i see what you did there. >> yes, thank you lauren, that is a hint, right. >> how will we unlock our phone. >> the ear is a body part that can unlock your phone, you are going with ear. >> really. >> how does it work. >> well, ear recognition. amazon has a patent. this does in the mean this will ever see a light of day but they are working on a technology where they have a call coming in, put the phone up to your ear, it recognizes your ear and customize that he is call experience, audio and all of that. instead of an eye scan or fingerprint, you can put the phone up on your ear. it is not that hard to scan your fingerprint or put in
7:24 am
your pass word. this is latest idea. >> well, i love it. hopefully it comes to fruition. i had no idea that our ears are like our fingerprint where they are like snow flakes, and unique. >> um-hmm, i'm sure they are not as exact but you have a custom ear piece. >> my thing if i'm trying to text then i can use my finger i don't want to do this and then start texting. >> that is taxiing, isn't it. >> yes. >> stop it, please, you're right. >> we're clumsy, peopley just dropped my phone, lauren, thanks, mike. >> what body part would you rather use. >> i was just saying ear for phone calls and fingers for texts. i could do that. >> i don't think the ear would replace your finger maybe just an option. >> okay. >> it sound like nothing will happen so let's be quiet about it. >> when you get a even if call is it hard to press a button to accept it. it is not, right.
7:25 am
it seems like this is a little excessive. >> but then they have more information on us, right, they know what our fingerprint look like, they know what our eye scans look like, and then they get hacked and then some thief could basically, duplicate my body parts. >> oh, well, some can get used to that. >> would would sell very well for amazon. >> i have transitioned us to the next story. >> i don't want to go there yet. >> can i just do something. i have never seen your ears. do you have nice ears. >> lets take a look. >> i never really thought about them before. >> they are nice. >> yeah. >> okay. move on to, i have ears like an elephant. >> i don't know if i have big ears. >> no, you have cute little ears. >> yes good this is so ironic, a pass word company, got
7:26 am
hacked. >> i know, what the heck, okay, so as you guys know every single site thaw looking on to now you need a pass word that is not a real word that has i number, capitol letter and symbol and it has ton a certain length. how do you remember these. you don't. they write them down, which is a no, no or put them in the past word storage database something called last pass, stores your pass word for you. the pass word protecter was hack. identity thieves now have information but. they have your e-mail, they have your reminders for your pass word those triggers, that help you remember what it is, and what they can do with this information is scary. so if you use last pass you want to change your master pass word. >> yes. >> pass word bank got robbed, you cannot win anymore. >> i know. >> lauren, thanks a lot. i want to apologize for something, i have been on for an hour and a half and i didn't tease once, one of the dancers from magic mike from
7:27 am
our movie is on today. >> that is a shame. >> i'm pathetic. here's jen, and there he is. >> yeah. >> he is in the house. we are here at millennium dance. some people let him go in the news studio but when you come to my house i bring you to the place. you will in the just get to the news studio i will treat you to some philly stuff, all right, baby. >> i'm ready good i saw you in the movie. >> oh, did you. >> i saw you, he made it, ladies. come on back.
7:30 am
welcome back. it is so soupy out there. >> it is muggy, yucky. >> you could swim through the air. >> yeah, it is thick. >> there they are, put a hat on. >> oh, yeah. >> i have so much product on this hairy cannot tell you. i wish i had buddy's hair style and just five hairs sticking straight up. and, early dismissal for philadelphia public schools today. so buddy is happen bye that. notice he has umbrella for later on because we may see some storms, pretty cloudy right now and humid and there is fog. it is a six out of ten in your weather by the numbers. we have rain out to the west of us, none of it entered our
7:31 am
viewing area just yet but it is almost like it is raining because of the fog out there. it is fog any allentown, trenton, pottstown, even at fill i international, atlantic city international socked in as well. 75 degrees. we have relative humidity of 871 percent. 3-mile an hour win out of the east. so that is not helping at all. today we have temperatures in the 07's, fog and clouds around this morning. we will see some sunshine and by noon we will be up to 87, 88 degrees. ninety's should be our high. watch out for isolated scattered thunderstorms all afternoon and evening, and that is your fox cast for tuesday, bob kelly, what do you got. >> we have got some fog out there, starting to lift a little bit, we can see mid span here in the ben franklin coming out of the south jersey heading up in towards philadelphia. that is good news. we have got some sun glare out there on 422, hello, collegeville starting to see delays between royersford, collegeville, heading in toward king of prussia. delays on the schuylkill i am
7:32 am
bound on the right, right here near montgomery drive so we are bumper to bumper city line into girard. starting to see delays now, popping up, at philly international, they are kick nothing a traffic management program which is typically what happens at the beginning of the delays as they start to pop. factor in extra time heading to the airport. northbound lanes of 295 watch for delays a disable tractor trailer at moorestown off ramp there for route 38, mike and alex, back over to you. >> tell me to this makes sense marijuana a may be legal in colorado but you can still get fired for using it. >> what the hay. state supreme court ruled that employers can fire you if you test positive for pot, even if you are not under the influence at work. so ken rottweiler, attorney at law, how is that possible. >> it is kind of crazy. let us know what the history is they in colorado in 2,000 they passed medical marijuana is legal. so, in 2012 they passed that
7:33 am
recreational mar juan ace legal. he was fired in 2010. he goes under the medical marijuana exception to this. what they held was the government, it is okay for the government -- it goods confusing. the government cannot prosecute you because law is legal but it does ant reply to employers. the state supreme court said yeah, it is legal under our laws, but it doesn't apply necessarily to employers. so if you are off working hours and you are smoking pot , and they do random testing which they did in this case. by the way this guy is a 35 year-old quadriplegic who was a telephone operator for dish network. when he was off the working hours, they found that he was positive, and they found that they could apply a law. it is a federal law that they a played because under federal law remember it is still illegal. under state law it is not
7:34 am
illegal, in colorado. >> doesn't have -- the law is the law, the company in the state of colorado shouldn't they have to follow the law. >> do you see why i have trouble explaining this. it vice confusing. as i looked at this i didn't understand it myself. what they did was they said that let me try to explain it here because i had to read it. they have a stat statute that prohibit employers from firing employees foreign gauge nothing lawful activities. if you are engage in lawful activities you cannot be fire. the way the state supreme court amized this but if it is unlawful activity and unlawful under federal law they than contact be fired. you have to be a lawyer and read this and read this and read this to understand it because your impression was right, it is legal in colorado so how can a employer fire you for doing something that is lawful under the law. but they are applying both federal lane awe state law in making this ruling. supreme court justices are
7:35 am
very intellectual people. they tend to look into this. they replied this in my view in a crazy way this guy needs that marijuana to stop his spasms. he is in a wheelchair. thirty-five years old. did he this at home in the privacy of his own home and now this state law says in, what you did is not proper under the state statute, therefore your employer can fire you. it is absolutely outrage us what they did there. >> did they get to meet the guy. >> no, no. >> because in the process of trying to get this going here in pennsylvania. >> in pennsylvania, in may last month they, the state senate passed provision for medical marijuana now it is before the house. if the house passes it, it will be go to the governor and see if governor wolf will sign it. >> if you need it, you can do it but you just can't work. >> that is why it is crazy. watch on it in colorado. you do not have that under colorado law to go out there and smoke pot. >> he is just trying to make a living as a quadriplegic. >> yes, if i was on the supreme court which i will never be this would have never
7:36 am
been the law in colorado. totally unfair it is embarrassing. >> it is. >> stop it. >> people living in colorado are embarrassed by their own supreme court in doing this ruling. on times you have to look at the individual n this case, he was doing it for the right reasons. he wasn't smoking, by the way or was high at work. >> it was in his system. >> he was trying to take care of his spasms. >> oh, my goodness. >> i can't believe we just did this and we have to talk about it. >> it is so outrageous, we probably to have talk bit. >> that is why we talk bit. >> thanks, ken. >> you may know some people around outside, there, but i want to you come over here if you get a chance to come to olde city. this is the fathers day pledge against gender violence. i'll explain what the pledge is, and why we're all out at phillies game tomorrow night, with these pledges.
7:40 am
watches from texas every morning. i will in the say but dad, i got you taken care of. >> nicely done. >> of course, this fathers day sunday we all know a lot of times it is mother, gets a lot of the glory, is that right, mike. >> that has always been the way it is. there is a new study that seems to show it is moms, in the dads who determine the type of parent a child will eventually become. >> so, 146 sets of parent were track, beginning when their child was born, researchers watched how both respond todd their wants and need and later they gave a survey that show it is how mom behaves that made all of the difference. moms who were warm, supportive they reared more stable children. those harsh had more aggressive kid. those behaviors were carried on to the next generation because you do what your parent do. >> so i wasted, 18, 19, 20 years of my life trying to nurture my two daughters. they weren't enlist evening. >> they said here too that the
7:41 am
fact that the father was good or bad didn't even factor in, in how your child turns out. >> i could have been doing anything the whole time, instead, i tried to nurture them, every night. >> but you were there. >> but apparently this study says it could than the have made a difference. i could have been out swinging. >> i say fathers are very important. that is why you have your own day as well. we love our dads. >> yeah, fathers day, everybody run out on saturday and get a tie good do you get the same gift every year. >> pretty much. >> a tie. >> or they take pop sickles sticks and make a little bank out of it. still to this day put pasta shells on top of it. >> they do not still to this day. >> no. >> they just call me. >> it is thought that counts, mike does that matter anymore, the thought, we love our fathers. we're thinking of you. >> you know what i want and been asking for over a year is
7:42 am
a curved screen tv. >> yeah. >> samsung makes it. >> you have to get things within reason, something people can afford, goodness and gracious. >> what is that grinding sound. >> what is happening here. >> we are under construction. >> lets get out to, everybody on twitter is going crazy, magic mike, you will see it tonight, special screening. one of the dabsers in the film is standing right next to jen. >> yes, and he kind of got pulled into so you think you can dance. i will own your success for 26 seconds. he work hard to make it happen. he is here in millennium in south philadelphia. they are not even pretending they are trying to show off. they are trying to show off, and, come on back, we will talk about the movie and everybody else, in it.
7:45 am
