7:03 am
temperature of 58 degrees. a few clouds but still on the comfortable side. treasure this because it is a really going to get hot over the weekend. i love you to. o h, my god. i love spontaneous moments like that. there is your forecast, and a lot of love dave warren from here in stone harbor, new jersey. you told me would i like it here. >> that is main street, it looks good this morning. we are looking at the roadways now. bob has been off all week. starting to tap the brakes here around the curve, this is 76. volume increasing, sunshine out there watch the sun glare, be aware of that this morning. and, three lanes coming into philadelphia in the ben franklin bridge. moving along there but volleys starting to pick up just a bit. this is also in bucks county, this is old county line road between huntington pike and second street pike. is there an accident there. so just be careful of. that slow down just a little bit. that is still pretty clear this morning. it is friday morning. we will keep an eye out for
7:04 am
any as they call them jammos out there but things are looking clear this morning, mike and alex. coming up at 7:04. a tennessee man is accused of opening fire at two military sites and killing four people, before he was shot dead by police. federal authorities are investigating whether the shootings were an act of terrorism. they say that 24 year-old mohammad youssef abdulazeez, first drove by military recruiting center in chattanuga a and then sprayed dozens of bullets. then he drove to the navy marine training center where four marines were killed and a sailor was seriously wounded. coming up we will go live to tennessee for the the latest. 7:04. police in west philadelphia are investigating the death of the drexel student found dead in her apartment. >> yes, just 27 years old and she just graduated last month, what happened, steve. here's steve. >> reporter: we're with commissioner ramsey kind enough to join us here and walk over to our truck as he goes out of his way to be nice. lets go to the video of the
7:05 am
scene here. this is a a very secure apartment. one of his right-hand men here at the headquarters is homicide chief jim clark and he was out there himself and said this department is super secure. there is no sign of any break n jasmine white the 27 year-old master's degree graduate just four weeks ago after going to penn state for under grad and drexel for graduate work found dead, severely beaten about the the head and possibly strangled in her third floor bedroom right facing 50th street right around the corner from walnut. so from all indications even though you don't have all of the facts. nothing appears to be miss bug family has not done verification of that either. >> nothing obvious until you have people that know her and could identify an item that should be there that is not there. you cannot say with hundred percent certainty but nothing that jumps out at you. nothing that would show forced presidentry, nothing that would show it was a robbery or burglary, where things were kind of strewn about or what have you.
7:06 am
so that would indicate perhaps this is someone who knew her. >> reporter: she let in and wasn't expect to go get in an altercation. >> or someone who pretended to be someone that they weren't. that is always a possibility too. we do have issues with people posing as utility workers and so forth. there is nothing that indicates right now that is what happened. >> while we have you here jenny joyce will be coming up shortly our other story, also, more crime. another person for the second time this week, we have stray bullets finding not their targets but unintended innocent people. we had elderly later 79 year-old and now this woman in the car. >> you have these idiots with guns and they fire down the street. they don't care what they hit. i mean certainly they miss their intended target but bullet continues on. and it will eventually strike something. so we have had two incidents recently. i'm not overly optimistic that someone will come forward and say, you know, joe blow is the
7:07 am
one that fired the gun. hopefully we can find some video or something but that means they will stay out there until they eventually do kill somebody. we have got to get people like that off the street but we need the public's help. >> reporter: why do you think people air frayed to come forward when you have a grandmother, sitting on her porch, more these people are out there and this gun out there this culled happen again. you would think that with go through their mind what cow think it is too scar toy come forward. >> would you think so but there are some people that are intimidated, others that are just, for whatever reason, they don't want to get involved. that is why we have to really find ways in which we can get information we need to get these dangerous people off of the street. they will not stop. if a person shot and missed, now the guy shot at will come back and try to shoot him. that is just the the way it goes. you wind up with more and more blood on the streets. >> commissioner ramsey always great to spend time with you. >> all right. >> we will get to jenny joyce and show you details on this
7:08 am
victim. >> before the commissioner gets away would you ask him was the the situation in tennessee yesterday, we have four dead had maroons. well, would they put a police officer at each of our military, recruiting offices because we have the same kind of thing, in strip malls we have recruiting offices for the military. >> mike jerrick has a question, you saw shooting in tennessee yesterday and the concern is, we have got a lot of recruiting offices, you have the big one up by temple on brought street. you are always meeting with law enforcement leaders around the country. is what you the thought today about how to secure these places in the immediate aftermath with copycat possibility. >> as soon as this happened we were alerted to it. i got a message from the delaware valley intelligence sent their this was going on. we immediately put special tension on all of the military installations, recruiting centers and the like. we have hourly quips on our radio reminding officers to stay alert and code one response, priority one response to any call emanating
7:09 am
from any of those locations. as farrah as long term security, we need to sit down and kind of figure out what that would look like whether or not they should have some kind of security or what have you. i don't have the answer to that right now but certainly it is something of concern. >> commissioner, thanks. >> okay. mike, good question. you know, there has been even talk about all these soldiers go through boot camps and they are trained with arms, why aren't they armed in these recruiting centers. they are not on easy street when they are out trying to get young americans to try to volunteer. why weren't these people arm. that is also thought let's arm our recruiters which is a sad thought but maybe a possibility that you have to do it. >> that will have to be debated starting to day, should those military guys in the recruiting offices be armed. >> yes, so they can protect themselves. we will get an update this morning, from chattanuga there. >> lets get to chat knew a. i'm sorry, i don't know the the reporter's name. who do we have.
7:10 am
>> i'm so sorry, i don't know your name here in philadelphia, mark, it is all yours. >> reporter: no problem, thinks mark here in chattanuga. welcome to a grieving chattanuga. i will step out the shot so you can look at a makeshift memorial that popped up here. and, a number of flags and really moving messages have been left here at this particular location. if we can come over more i can also show you the blown out, front window, of what kind of fire power that was used at this location. and, no one ended up dying here. the deaths all occurred about 7 miles from here at a naval support center. that is where four marines were shot dead. we're learning a little bit more about the gunman, we're talking about 24 year-old
7:11 am
mohammad youssef abdulazeez, and we had been told that he wasn't on any kind of a radar for law enforcement, as far as terror watch list or anything like this. at this point we believe that they likely acted on his own but they are obviously still going to investigate as to what would have caused him to to something like this. at this point treating this as a case of domestic terrorism, and they do tell us that he was a graduate of the university of tennessee, here in chattanuga and electrical engineer major, and in fact, we were told in high school he was on the wrestling team and fairly popular. at this point we are trying to figure out what would cause this man to go do something like this while this community try to have grief and come together after what happened here yesterday. >> hey mark, i have heard that he rented a silver mustang, and never got out of the car in that parking lot behind you.
7:12 am
>> reporter: yeah, never got out at this particular location. what he did was according to the investigationors, he just opened fire from the vehicle. he had a number of weapons with him, and again, you can see what kind of damage did he to that particular location. it is amazing in one ended up dying here. unfortunately we cannot say the same at that other location. >> as were you saying, mark, they talked to people from his past, so many people said he was a great kid. >> good students, martial artist. >> very nice. >> reporter: yeah, he was obviously born in kuwait and lived here in tennessee. at this point they are trying to figure out what would cause this? they are, of course, looking into whether he was radicalized through any kind of islam i can terror group but at the this point it is too early to know for sure but that is one thing they will look at. they did want to point out folks in the community should
7:13 am
not feel worried because they do think he was operating alone. its not like this will be going on in the future. >> i don't know how you could possibly stop this mark, thanks very much. good report out of chattanuga. we will have have more in a second. 7:00 speak. a driver was riding through north philadelphia, overnight when bullets started flying. >> lets get back to the story commissioner ramsey was talking about, stray bullets. jenny joyce, temple hospital, jenny. >> reporter: alex and mike, pose lee say this victim was driving with a couple of her girlfriend. they heard a hail of gunfire. it wasn't until a few minutes later that they realized that the driver of the car was struck by one of the bullets. she's now here at temple university hospital in stable condition. the shooting happened around 11:00 last night at 17th and susquehanna streets in north philadelphia. police say one bullet hit the victim's vehicle and entered through the trunk of the car and pen straighted through driver's seat into the victim's lower back but again, she didn't realize that until she drove her car around the corner to diamond street and
7:14 am
felt some back pain. the victim was initially rush to the hospital in critical condition. police say they found several pieces of evidence at the scene. >> she was with two other female friend in the car when she was shot. her friend, as well as the driver, the victim herself, said they were driving west on sus question hand, made a left-hand turn to go south on 17th from susquehanna where at the intersection of 17th and susquehanna they heard several gun shots. the driver then felt pain in her back, and when she got to the interest section of 17th and diamond she realized she was shot in her back. >> reporter: the two passengers were not injured, police say back seat passenger very lucky had she been sitting behind the driver it would have been a different story. both passengers are currently being interviewed by detectives and as you heard commissioner ramsey say they cannot do it all alone. while they do have some surveillance video that they are looking into they need the community to step up and provide some additional information, to try to catch
7:15 am
the the shooter, or shooters, mike and alex. >> boy, second day in a row jenny has been on a story like this. >> lets get down the shore with sue in stone hard or. >> yes, hi sue. >> you heard last time lady singing to me from her car, nina, how long have you been watching the show. >> forever. >> say hi to mike and will alex. >> hi mike and alex. >> are you from. >> philadelphia. >> she misses us in philadelphia i miss you in philadelphia you work and live here at full-time. >> yes, i work right on it back, heating and air conditioning. >> yes, 21 years i have been here. this is our busy season. >> i'll bet. >> you will need -- we will need you this weekend, wait until you hear how hot it is this sunday. >> we have experienced a death in our employee staff, dan basher, rest in peace. >> thanks very much for coming back. >> i love you. >> watching the show for all these years. >> shore cast is really good. really good all weekend
7:16 am
especially compared to the aforementioned heat we will have in the city, by sunday. so, 79 degrees today. thirty-eight tomorrow with a chance of the late shower, and then sunny and warm on sunday with a high of 86. checking current temperatures around the region and really nice out there, upper six owe's in the city. fifty's to the north of us, 60's to the south of us, gorgeous morning but as we look a head to our future, computer models are telling us it is in the 90's starting tomorrow probably and definitely on sunday but heat index, the way it feels outside is what will get you on sunday when it feels like ten and wilmington will be 104 with the heat index there. so guess what phillies back in action after the all-star break, yeah. hopefully starting fresh with a whole new season. the let's think positive. they are playing marlins tonight. it is 85 at game time. we will put that together in the seven day forecast. we will have a couple of hot days, saturday, sunday, even
7:17 am

7:18 am
picking up a bit, no real major problems on the roadways. just a few accidents, one or two, one last one, still blocking a lane in warminster. bristol road is eastbound right after jacksonville road. so this is the one problem that we still have, blocking one lane. so pretty clear on a lot of the major roadways, so far, so good. mike anal a ex- >> great day to use uber? >> i have never used uber. >> no, never. >> but we are starting to go and get a baby-sitter mode, so maybe. >> anyway, i still can't believe how fast uber has become a common term. >> very popular. there are new numbers out that has you reconsidering your ride though. >> okay, okay. >> how about this ride. >> well, sure our sponsor mazda has taken that mazda six down the the shore, again this week, starting at 8:00 you can register to win two tickets to the maroon five concert, in

7:24 am
of your smart phone and power of uber at this point. yes, it is a controversial company. they do have been banned in some cities throughout the world, but you where they are successful, they are super successful and they are dominating and destroying existing industries. that would be the taxi cab industry. and in a report that looked at the past three months they have said for business travelers, traveling, they have spent more receipts, 55 percent of their receipts, for uber rides verse 43 per september that were regular taxi rides. so there you have it. >> another question. >> but i say, uber. >> it is not only cars but you know, hotels are freaking out because of this web site called air b and b where you share each others homes. >> i know, i know, that is slightly different in the sense that it is more expensive obviously and it your vacation state but we are

7:34 am
this problem, that means twisting of the end. you can die from that. >> how would you know if you have that. >> you might not know. people know if they have a family history, of people fainting or having sudden cardiac death. some people might first find out when they go to the doctor and get a electro cardio gram. >> this kid fridays our area. >> yes, they were vacation nothing virginia. >> swimming, and ended up in the getting out of the water, and his family very ridefully so went out and got him and saved his life. so, this is one of those things where what is the value of one life? i talk to a number of pediatrician about this. there are no guidelines to screen every kid that comes in with a simple elect cardio gram. both of you are my patients. you both have had an electrocardiogram. what does it take five minutes. there is absolutely nothing
7:35 am
invasive, nothing. i believe, and this is my personal opinion, this is not anything to do with any guidelines you must have an ekg. >> at what age. >> from the very beginning. there is two kind. is there congenital long qt syndrome and acquired. so if i give you a medicine for instance that predisposes you to prolonged qt interval i can cause it, but many kid have it an they don't even know it that is serious. summertime, kid are out swimming. was just the fact that he was swimming set it off or was it any activity. >> any activity, even waking up out of the sleep. the major point here is that there are two things we hear about at this time of the year. kid going out on the football field and that is cardio my apathy. thinks prolonged, qt syndrome. get an ekg. >> how is this kid doing, do you know. >> i have heard he is doing
7:36 am
