8:01 am
going on today, a heat advisory, fun this morning, bill anderson. >> re good morning, karen hepp. >> we want to know what your can favorite ice cream flavor is. take a look outside. >> you're on a little bit of a food kick. as karen said taking a look at outside in center city right now. what you don't see is apparently he said going to be really hot. today warren is here to give us the details, good morning, sir. >> i will show you it will be hot. there's that little haze you see with the live picture with sunshine. heat is building, you'll be screaming for ice cream later definitely we'll do that all morning. temperatures add already on through the warm starpt. the excessive heat warning not only today but tomorrow, the heat will stick around at least for the start of the work week of the highest heat index in that warning area, the advisory, that's for the suburbs to the north and south. looking for any type of shower out there to give us some relief. possibly one developing this morning across delaware and south jersey, nothing yet, but we continue to minor that.
8:02 am
temperatures almost up to 80. that's a very, very warm start for the day when it -- here we are at just after 8:00 at 80 degrees almost. very warm down the shore as well. that sea breeze will kick in eventually but really not until later today, so we're looking at these temperatures climbing into the 90s by noon. there it goes from 82 to 90. that's at noon. by this afternoon, he said not just the heat, it is at the humidity. we factor in the humidity out there it will feel like he said above 100 degrees, so you want to work around between about 2:00 and 6:00. that's when the heat index will be the highest. anything early in the morning or late in the afternoon, if you have to do anything strenuous outside this afternoon, certainly drink plenty of fluids and be advised of symptoms of heat exhaustion or stroke. we'll see if there's any relief in the seven-day forecast. coming up little bit later. >> thank you so much, given all that, given the heat we have right now, at 8:03, we got a
8:03 am
series situation for firefighters working in this heat. so many people dozens forced to leave their homes after a very big fire overnight. >> let's get to it. fox 29 jennifer joyce is live in south philadelphia. >> reporter: good morning, bill and karen. the fewer commissioner told us he's thankful for two things, one, there were no injuries to i firefighters or anybody else who lives on this block and second they believe they were able to save the neighboring properties that caused the fire. this started on the 1300 block of snyder avenue around 3:30 this morning. it took over an hour and a half to get this fire under control. it quickly rose to three alarms meaning more than 100 firefighters responded. immediately went to work on this property. the commissioner says was vacant under construction. during the fire, the second floor of the property collapsed, on to the first and the rear of four neighboring properties were exposed to flames. there was a lot of heat back there, but it seals seems like
8:04 am
damage was limited to exterior. the entire block evacuated as firefighters battled these flames. . >> i cannot believe now the first company on location they encountered heavy fire, then like i said, the exposures we did a lot of heat from the exposures. we may make sure to save the properties. we had the fire marshall go in, alcohol tobacco and firearms. try to determine the cause. >> reporter: shelter has been set up nearby for the people displayed, as you heard the commissioner say cause is not known. we have to wait for the hot spots to be put out before the fire marshall is safely get into the building and try to determine a cause. karen and bill? >> thank you, jen, we got a lot of fires overnight. another one to tell you about, their re they're investigating the cause of this one west oaklane, crews got the call to come out thereabout 1:40. the fire was on the 1600 block
8:05 am
of east washington lane, we're told that one started in the kitchen. the good news is nobody was injured. >> police say they have a person of interest in the brutal murder of a recently drexel university graduate. investigators say they're looking at the maintenance man in 27-year-old jasmine wright's apartment building. she was strangled to death and there was no sign of forced entry into her home and neighbors say they're scared. >> he have a key and he say he have every key for the unit, like my, to, she have all unit key. she can get inside whatever he want. what time he wants. makes me scared. >> police are continuing the investigation, but as of the moment, they have not made an arrest in this case. >> two people are in the hospital, right now after a crash in bucks county. this one happened just around 2:00 in been islam boulevard in
8:06 am
byberry. there was car hit a house, two teens inside the car injured, police are investigating whether or not alcohol may be involved in that crash. >>. our cover story this morning, the full deposition in the case of a young woman who accused bill cosby of drugging and molesting her years ago. that deposition became public. the new york city obtained the deposition, and in it, cosby admitted he'd engaged in several extra marital relationships, gave drugs over the kournt to relax them and offered payments to keep the relationships hidden. throughout the deposition, he did maintain that all relationships were consensual. obviously, the comments immediately started coming in p.m. we'll take a look some of them. betty said shame on you, bill cosby with for making us women laugh at your jokes only to make a joke of us. this coming in from samuel. bill try to own up to your consequences and by doing so your legacy will not be
8:07 am
destroyed. one coming in, over 25 women have accused big re bill cosby of sexual assault. over 25 and this man says it was consensual. i've been over him. >> let's get the conversation going. of course, attorney ken roth whileer is here with us, and fox legal analyst, good morning, sir. >> good morning, bill, how are you? >> great, thanks for starting your day with us. you had a chance to look tulle deposition, there's a lot of damning information in there, starting with your legal analysis, does any of the change the legal status of this case. >> no, i don't think any of it changes the legal status at all t there's still a problem with the statute of limitations. i'll tell you interesting thing about this deposition and as you said it was a deposition obtained by the new york times, about a he said about 1,000 page, occurred over he four days back in 2005. the biggest thing that came out is an admission by bill cosby that he actual paid women who he had sex with to keep it quiet.
8:08 am
when i say keep it quiet, i'm talking about keeping it quiet with his wife. two alleged victims now that were part of that lawsuit that were actually jane doughs are now calling on his wife to ca meal to speak out and to support these women, all of these women, dozens of women who have made the claims. i don't expect his wife to do it. they've been married 51 years. but this is a call upon his wife to say, hey, enough is enough, you know what was going on, you should speak out and confirm all of this conduct so that these women, so that they feel vindicated in their claim. >> another thing interesting to me in looking through it is apparently mr. cosby admitted that he got quaaludes but got them under false pretenses, allegedly for a sore back and used them to relax individuals. any legal repercussions who perhaps gave him the drugs looking at it from that -- he got the drugs under false
8:09 am
pretensions. >> probably not. probably the statute is also expired, but he did admit during the deposition that he got these quaaludes in order to have sex with women. he didn't -- he says it was all couldn't sensual. he's not not admitting he did anything wrong, i'm still going to go through all of this deposition, because like i said, tussling they but i don't think at any part in this deposition will he admit that he did things couldn't sensually. his conduct is certainly -- this testimony is -- is supported by women's testimony who all came out and said all of this was done when they were drugged and these quaaludes were the product that got them drugged. he said looking very bad for bill cosby but as you started out by asking, i don't think there's going to be any legal consequences to bill cosby as a result of this at all. >> kind of your analyst and your interpretation of this as a father, also, one of the things that came out was that he apparently was talking to a
8:10 am
woman about her for a minute who had cancer, and admitted he was doing that in a way to just get closer to her in his words,s to have sexual conduct. this has to be destroying a legacy. >> he said disgusting conduct. one of the you don't know women. her father was dying of cancer. and bill cosby kind of companies seeed up to her by seeming sympathetic by asking her questions gaining her trust and getting closer. the only reason was to later down the line have sex with her. i think the perception of the, the ultimate father, the america's father is totally being destroyed. i think that any obituary of bill cosby, the first sentence is going to have the word rape in it. >> we appreciate it. we got to written. releasing the information was legal; right? . >> yes, it was. new york tiles obtained it legally. basically it knew the transcript was out there and got it from the court reporting agency.
8:11 am
>> thank you, always a pleasure. we'll a talk to you soon. guys, we want to hear from you, your comments on this case, he said blowing up over social media, you can leave your comments on our fox 29 facebook page, tweet us at fox 29 philly, use #to fox29weekend. coming up donald trump is creating controversy once again. this time a decorated war hero. what he said about senator john mccann that caused a republican crowd to gaps. a it has been lloyd publishes a picture of the queen of england giving a nazi salute. now buckingham is firing back.
8:14 am
. welcome back, taking a look at at your headlines, rick scott calling for all national guard members to be moved from the state six recruitment centers to nearby armor ris. >> that comes in the wake of the chattanooga tennessee attack of two military sites that left four marines and one navy reserveest dead. two others hurt. also ordering regular security check at national guard offices by local law enforcement and ordering that all qualified full-time guards men carry a gun. >> i would expect every recruit in my office around the country to be safe. what i can deal with is their national guard recruitment offices and i'm going to make sure they're safe.
8:15 am
they will not be reopened until i'm comfortable. >> homeland security experts say more action needs to be taken to keep soft arctic likes recruitment center to say safe at home. >> tense situation outside the statehouse in south carolina. the black panther party and also the kka both rallied at the same time yesterday afternoon. started out peacefully. then as you a may expect with two groups eventually did clash. a lot of arguing, a lot of yelling but the good news, no violence, no injuries. the kkk resefbd space for today's rally day after the south carolina called for the removal of the confederate flag. the push to move the flag after the tragic shooting of nine black members at a church in charleston. >> it was a long, hot miserable. how many words -- miserable ride for passengers aboard a double-decker mega bus. they road from detroit to chicago on that bus with no air conditioning. we're talking about a five and a half hour ride. it was about 94 degrees on the
8:16 am
bus when the bus actually arrived. even worse, riders say they weren't even able to open any windows. one person was taken away in an ambulance to be treated for what obviously appeared to be heat exhaustion. >> circulation in the bathroom but it was like -- we no longer wanted to go there, i called customer service, and they told us -- we told them it was a health hazard and they said, it was an inconvenience, sorry, hung up on us, so people on the bus called's the same thing happened to them. >> the mega bus confirms the bus did have mccann tall problems. the director said all passengers will be refunded. mega bus apologizes for any inconvenience it may have caused. i'm superintendent michael chitwood with the video that is -- this week. the driver captures video of a
8:17 am
pair of bicyclists cruising down 676 at 10:00 at night. they won't appear to be wearing helmets. you can see cars trying to avoid the biker as best they can. when i look at this video, i see these two idiots on bicycles at 10:00 at night on a major thorough fare where trucks, cars doing 65, 70 miles an hour. and they're out on a bike. it makes no sense for them to put themselves in such a dangerous situation. they endanger themselves and they endanger the motoring public with the stupidity. fortunately nobody got hurt. but their actions make them dumber than dumb. i'm superintendent michael chitwood. that's my take. welcome backing live look outside. weather is one of our top
8:18 am
stories today. it is hazy, humid going to be dangerously hot. >> warm colors that we have coming your way right now, we have the haze across philadelphia. little green on the radar, so things are quiet right now, not looking as much in the way of rain, we have an excessive heat warning and the excessive heat advisory in the surrounding areas. now, temperatures 79 degrees. very, very light breeze, relative humidity as that is number climbs above 90. warnings are in effect because the heat plus humidity will make it feel like he said above 100 degrees. nothing in the way of rain. in fact, we have a question here, are there chance today for pop-up showers? you get that with the heat and humidity. really, not a lot to trigger these storms, so not much in the way of showers today. there are thunderstorms in the forecast, not looking at much in the way of relief for this heat.
8:19 am
there could be a few light showers this morning, but as you get into the heat of the day here, not much triggering any type of showers or thunderstorms across our area. there is this line, a broken line here of showers sent and storms approaching, little relief, that can be tomorrow. that will try to work its way through the area throughout the day tomorrow. dropping our temperatures just a little bit along with the lowering the humidity. these will be severe thunderstorms, so maybe later today, and early tonight across the poconos there, poconos mountains, could see a light shower or maybe possibly a strong thunderstorm. the strongest storm should stay to north and west of the area, heat index values, not only today, but tomorrow, they're at 100, slightly above that today. tomorrow, city hall looking at high heat index value. little cooler from the northern and western suburbs still high across south jersey and philadelphia. number bias tomorrow afternoon, upper 90's close to 100 degrees
8:20 am
and that continues to the south. there is a little relief along the coast but these are high values tomorrow. a good day or two at least of some very high heat, and humidity. the relief is here, by wednesday. lower humidity and lower temperatures. right into the upper 80's. that is what we call relief. no more 90's just upper 80's by the middle of the week. >> how do we cool down? it does happen to be national ice cream day. >> i love this, excited about this. national ice cream day. >> people are writing in favorite flavors, pumpkin my from can you say tarred and cakes can cream ri. doornail they says coffee and pumpkin my shops, coffee at marry lee farms. >> that doesn't sound great to me. i got a lot of chocolate chip cookie dough, i saw cookies and theme. basically everybody loves ice cream. >> they love that. to this one, blowing up all over the place, did you hear what

8:26 am
>> buy one get one? >> can we take credit for it? we can send people to the places? just tell them we sent you in. >> we got people coming up. see what they're saying, tabloid poses this picture. a really serious one of getting a lot of attention right now, i don't know if you seen the conversation on this one, he said the queen of england, and she's giving a nazi salute it appears. now, buckingham palace is firing back. the royal message to the paper that printed that one. >> a lot of controversy going on today. make sure you keep watching fox29weekend. as we get into it at any tuneed. >> where did everybody go? . >> i don't know.
8:29 am
. welcome back at exactly 8:25. police released surveillance video of a shooting inside of an adult book store in center city. >> we first told you about this story yesterday morning on fox29weekend. according to police, a 36-year-old man working at danny's midnight concessions was confronted by another man who walked in, said a, quote, gay sure and left. police say the same man came back, got into an argument with the worker and shot him. he ran on the re out of the store along 13th. the victim is at jefferson university hospital in stable condition. >> a reminder one day passage for regional rail travel for the
8:30 am
pope's travel to philadelphia are going to go on sale tomorrow. you're going to needed to planning, septa is limiting the number of passes that will be sold altogether and you need to purchase them, there's a lot you need to get because you can only get them at certain stations, there's only going to be 18 out lying stations that are going to be used when pope comes to our neck of the woods and they're only valid these passes for a specific time slot. you got to know when you're coming and what station you're leading from. we put a lot of information on our website myfoxphilly.com. >> you decide political coverage, donald trump stirring up controversy once again. this time he slamming senator john mccann, a decorated vietnam war veteran. >> there was a moderate pushing trump on recent comments describing mccain as dummy that's when donald trump made a remark that made the crowd gasp. >> i supported him for president. on a i raised a million dollars for him. it's a lot of money, he lost.
8:31 am
he let us down. he lost. i never liked him as much after that because i don't like losers. let me get to it: he's not a war hero. he's a war hero because he was captured. i like people that weren't captured. i hate to say. he's a war hero because he was captured. ok? you can have -- i believe, perhaps he's a war hero. but right now, he said very bad things about a lot of people. >> the rest of the republicans in the presidential race quickly done couldn't donald trump's comments. senator mccain has not commented thus far. even as you go out there and politically debate. there's certain things you just don't touch and being a prisoner pf war, that's not something that's funny. >> i saw it trending mccain was trending. i want to do see what it was about. you can't believe donald trump is an interesting person to watch, you let him talk and talk
8:32 am
and he's going to talk himself into a corner and maybe he did in this case in this situation. >> like he still thinks he's on reality tv. we'll get more into that. the tweets keep coming in. we want to take a look what's going on with the weather that's reading we're take a look at right now. >> he said hard to see. he said thick and soupy out there. >> that's a good word, yes. kind of soup it would be today, cool things off just a bit, not getting it. this is start this extended period of heat and humidity, and it happens day after day, be careful not only just today but tomorrow and tuesday, heat continues to build up, so that will be the big issue here. the warnings and advisorys are in effect, that warning right along the corridor of i95 because the temperatures easily into the 90's today, be there by noon. but the humidity will make it feel like it's a hundred degrees. you can't cool off like you can on a typical dry day, with this humidity in the air, your body has a tough time cooling off.
8:33 am
work around the heat. these are the current re temperatures just touched 80 degrees, feeling like 100 at least throughout much of the afternoon between 2:00 and 5:00. there's a little relief along the shore, allentown up to near 100. the poconos just a little cooler, and not only today, but tomorrow, were he see that heat index climbing above 100. so the warning extends throughout tomorrow. some relief in the north and western suburbs, drier air will be moving in slowly, starting off in the northern suburbs tomorrow, and then working its way through the area on tuesday. the heat index easily by tomorrow, many locations to the south and east into the upper 90's close to 100 degrees. peak heat index today, between about 1:00 and 6:00 p.m. 1:03 in philadelphia. down the shore 12'12 and 2:00 because between 3:00 and 4:00 the sea breeze kicks in. by 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 the wind
8:34 am
shifts and drops the temperatures, poconos mountains, 95. that heat index climbing there spiking between about 12 and 4:00 today. so do something early, do it late. because there's not much in the way of rain out there. ultimate doppler is clear. showers and storms coming back and that will be that cooler air coming in. see the timing of that, and what he said like once the rain clears out in the seven-day, i'll look at that a little bit later. hi, i'm bench allen with this week's around the house, my 3-year-old pushed too hard when he opened his bedroom door and the doorknob smashed a hole in the wall. can i fix the it myself? >> yes, erin, you certainly fix that hole in the wall on your own as an easy do it yourself project. there's a few simple supplies you'll need to gather. first is a repair patch.
8:35 am
these come self adhesive and come in a four-by-four, a two by 2 and 18 larger sheets depending on the size of your home. the next is spackling compound. i suggest that you buy a small tub, even smaller than this for a small repair, that's supposed to dry up over a few months and you end up thinning the out. get spackle compound and the last project you're going to need is a good spackle blade. i suggest a metal one, sharper edges and gives you crisp cleaner smooth lines. make sure the area is clean and dry, no dust. you do not have to chop away and remove any of this broken area. just make sure that it is smooth. take your patch kit and apply it over the hole. press firmly. make sure the edges are evened out against the wall. apply small even coats of spackle over your patch product
8:36 am
until it blends smoothly into the wall. continue working the area like you would do if you were icing a cake until all the edges are covered neatly, and there are no implies lump spackle. you want to make sure the edges of your patch are completely covered and you don't have a lot of lump. when it is completely dry, you want to take fine sand paper and gentle smooth out the entire area. now, don't grab your wall color too quickly. you want to be sure to prime the freshly patched area before you put your wall color where you will have forever have a spot that shows up, looks a little different than the rest of the wall. if you have a question you want answered, tweet us at #fox29weekend.
8:39 am
. 8:40. welcome back to fox29weekend. comments keep coming in. we appreciate them. vine send said this relates to donald trump. he scared the other candidates because he answers to no one. that's perhaps true. he scares me. big foot says enjoying my coffee watching fox29weekend. we appreciate you for that. giving a shout out has a big cone of strawberry ice cream says he's waiting for the eagles to get started and i lien loves fox 29 chocolate ice cream. happy ice cream day.

8:42 am
hamles remains: jonathan papelbon was the sole representative of the worse team. papelbon never got into the game in cincinnati but he did put his time in good use, loudly begging for a trade out of philadelphia. >> this decision was -- is solely on my shoulders. i'd have been gone a long time ago. >> media damon, papelbon told anyone within earshot that at the phils needed to quote, you know what or get off the pot. this with regard to moving him. my take? the funny thing, papelbon has been a good closer on the increasingly rare occasions in which the phillies actually have a late inning league to hold on to. sure at $13 million a year he's overpaid and amount may be five, $6 million a year is nowhere near enough for the phils to go outlet and buy an extra make player that would turn around
8:43 am
this ball club. unwillingness to make the kind of deals that would build for the future. to ironically, he said exactly the argument fans make every day. but they don't want to hear it from an overpaid player. and so, a team that want dominateed the all star roster now send one mall content to the game and he spend his time loudly begging to put philadelphia in his rearview mirror, only in philly. >>

. taking a look at what's trending this morning -- you notice it came right up on the phone, tracking what's trending. the royal family used to being targeted by british tabloid and rarely respond but now the sun newspaper has buckingham palace really talking. >> released queen elizabeth as a young girl giving the nazi salute. shot in 1933 the year hitler came into power. it is disappointing that film shot attic he said ago and apparently from her match is that he's personal family archives has been obtained and exploited in this manner but the sun is defending its decision to publish. >> he said never to embarrass at queen, you cannot find a newspaper more supportive than the royal family than the sun. you can find a newspaper more had keen to published stories in

the public interest in the sun and on that occasion, that was the responsibility we're seeking to fulfill him. >> a british military historian tells the sun the royals were joking when that film was shot and points out that back in 1933, the true extent of naziism evil was not yet known. you've heard it before, but i scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. and as i mentioned earlier, he said national ice cream day, we sent our junior reporter emily to check out some of the best ice cream spots in philadelphia. she's a student at american university and here to tell us about great experience checking out scream. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> well, in 1984,ed president reagan designated july national ice cream month. this week i was popping around visiting from a philadelphia top ice cream shops. the average american will eat
