8:02 am
this afternoon. popup showers likely, really not all that strong but you might be caught in a downpour, especially the north and western suburbs. this is starting about two or 3:00 and it will continue throughout the evening. so a few showers, possibly a thunderstorm in the forecast today. not nearly as cool, 75 in philadelphia, mid to low 70s north and west. 70s to the south. that humidity creeps up and it just keeps the temperatures from dropping a bit today. heating up, 91-degrees, showers and storms in the pocono mountains, down the shore, a nice afternoon with that see breeze, but 90s are back in the seven day. those numbers are coming up a little bit later. thanks, dave. at 8:02 a mother and her baby are both fighting for their lives this h morning after a stabbing overnight. it happened in the west oak lane section of city and that is our sabina correspond crows is standingment do they know who attacked this woman and the baby. >>reporter: karen, police tell us it was the woman's husband,
8:03 am
the baby's girl's own father who stabbed the would be year old girl in the chest. detectives were out here processing the scene up until an hour ago. it happened early this morning about 1:00. neighbors who were out hearsay police cars rushed to the scene at this home along dallas street. police say the mother was holding her baby girl when the husband stabbed them both. so far nobody has been arrested. this is a young family with a couple of kids. they say they moved in recently and were quiet. i've seen them mow the lawn and everything, but other than that they kept to themselves. that's why i'm surprised about it. > a small family. >> a small family. i see a couple of kids here and there, but that's about it. i'm troubled by it. i'm really very troubled by it. when i get to work i let my wife know bay i know she's going to be surprised and shock as well.
8:04 am
i can't believe it. it's sickening to think someone can harm an innocent child. now, we do have an update on the child's condition this morning. she is in stable chop. mom is critical at einstein, again, a one year old baby girl stabbed along with her mother police believed by the woman's husband, the baby's father. we don't know that man's whereabouts, if he's in police custody or if police are still trying to track him down. > right now police are investigating a robbery at a delaware county pharmacy. it happened just after 10:00 last night at the cvs, the one that's over there on the 5,000 block of pineale road in aston. police say a man came into the store about closing time, tied the employees up and robbed the store. they say he got away with some cash, but so far no arrests. police are looking into what caused this van to crash into a
8:05 am
house in the jew yacht a section of the city. it was about 6:30 on the 900 block of east tioga street, no one was injuredment dozens of residents were evacuated after a large warehouse fire in cerebral new jersey. they're hoping to return to their homes. residents were asked to leave because of heat and the fear of potential toxins from burningic. cause of the fire remains under investigation. three delaware women are accused of stealing a purse inside a wilmington grocery store. scarlett zimmerman stole a woman's purse right from her shopping cart and then ran outside to a truck where two other women were waiting. it happened friday at the acme on centerville road. police pulled the truck over and found the purse inside of it. 24 year old and 26 year old dina carter. you see them all.
8:06 am
they face a list of charges. they hit the diamond to raise some money for two familyies. it was the inaugeral police versus fire department soft ball tournament. it was in honor of robert wilson and james craig who both lost their lives protecting our city. sergeant wilson's family came out to support the event. he's still in our minds and our hearts. you'll always be in our heart. we always miss him. very competitive yep a day of celebration. the final score can of police versus fire was 8 to 7. they raised a few thousand dollars forth families of wilson and craig. nicely donement so maybe you're just sitting down for breakfast, maybe you're thinking about going out to get a little bit of brunch. where should you go? a sit down restaurant or maybe a fast food joint.

welcome back. it was a day of mourning in a chicago suburb as so many gathered to say goodbye to sandra bland. friends and family celebrated with a funeral service on saturday. she died 12 daysing a inside a jail cell in texas. she was in that state for a new job. the traffic stop exchanged into a heated exchange between her and the officer. police arrested bland and found her dead in a jail cell three days later. we celebrate that sandy bland

was someone, a young lady who refused to be sub dued and silenced as and she lived in her own truth. the medical examiner says she committed suicide, but her family is skeptical of those findings. they are calling for an independent investigation into our she died. and nearly obtained court records suggest the louisiana movie theater shooter should have been kept from buying a gun. according to those records, a georgia judge committed john houser to mental health treatment in 2008. officials say that information should have been put into federal and state database dids used to prevent people with mental illnesses from buying firearms. two people were killed and nine others injured in that shooting. houser then turned the gun on himself. a 16 year old boy is going to be charged as an adult alongside his 18 year old brother in connection with that horrific stabbing death of their parents and their siblings in oklahoma. 18 year old robert beaver and
8:12 am
his brother are charged with five counts of first degree murder, the other brother does not. and today marks 25 years since signing of the americans with disabilities act. this weekend celebrations all across this country including one right here in our neck of the woods in center city. so many people gathering for the fifth anniversary of the federal law that prohibits discrimination in employment and public services against p americans who have disabilitiment the first civil rights law addressing those issues. and in your health this morning we're talking about eating out. let's face we we can't always cook fresh, healthy meals. sometimes if you're like me you need to go out to a restaurant but that always leads us to a dilemma. where do you eat? dining out in a nice restaurant may sound like the healthier choice, more healthier than fast food. but it's a choice that people
8:13 am
are grabble with on social media. matteo said the best p part of knowing how to cook is that instead of eating junk food or fast food i make good meals that are way healthier. where to go and what to order. that's the question that we're posing today to fox's medical teams. tin a sanity fan take. good morning, always a pressure. >> why morning, it sounds like robert and matteo have it all summed up. >> they're a lot like mement i won't admit i can't cook, i'll just say i can't cook so what do we do, fast food or real restaurants. itself he's interesting because you think going to a sit down restaurant you're going eat healthier, fast food gets a bad rap, but as a matter of fact they're kind of equal. it was university of illinois researcher who analyzed data from about 18,000 americans and their eat habits and when dining out you're taking in probably
8:14 am
some more nutrients because maybe you're eating more interesting food, but you're taking in more calories, more sodium and more cloistral. deend ping on what you other it's comparable whether you're going to a fast food or a sit down restaurant. there aren't huge differences. the bottom line is you're better off eating at home when you can. a lot of us like eating at hole. restaurants want their food to taste good so they add all that stuff in because they want you to be a happy customer. a the look of time you don't even know that your steamed vegetables are dripping with delicious butter. you're happy, but you're chunk i while you're doing it. that's right. if you are going to eat out, the best advice is to be very selective, ask your wait error waitress, say i'm trying to cutback on calories, please just bring me steamed vegetables. please prepare this broiled, not
8:15 am
deep fried. look for those key words, baked, broiled, seemed and also you can split meals with people because you want the experience of eating out. so the strategy has to be how can i get out and get that fun experience, but not over dose on calories? it's option. when you go to a restaurant and not the fast food then you have those options and you can select different things. seems to me that that would tilt the scales in the restaurant's favor. yes, but even when you eat a salad at a restaurant sometimes by the time you sprinkle in a little blue cheese and maybe a cream i dressing and maybe a little bacon on top then you have taken a very basic salad that you made at home and totally changed it. that's why -- and those calories sneak in there. you just order a mole and you don't know. i'm always so happy to see you. you're smiling, you're up beat, but came ' not liking this.
8:16 am
you're basically telling me i have to go home and cook. that's the recommendation. >> that's what i'm telling you, get home and cook. get a frying pan and saute your ownic cannen. i don't like to cook, either and i have three kids and i don't like toment you cook at home because you try and make it healthy because it doesn't taste as good as the restaurant. it's always a pressure; thanks, bill. so what do you think, folks, neither dine a nouri are big on cooking, if you're not going to can could, do you go to the restaurant, do you go to fast food. we want to hear some of your tricks and some of your options. you can leave them on our fox 29 facebook page or tweet us at fox 29 philly. just make sure you use the hashtag fox 29 weekend and you can always just send us some food. putting the love back into the city of brotherrerly h l,ve organized by epic church.

8:18 am
changing just a little bit here. we have the heat and humidity coming back and there's showers and storms in the forecast. right now it is 75-degrees. that's current temperature. we asked if you wondered what the weather was going to be like and we got this question coming in from mt. laurel. dave, what's the water going to be like in mt. laurel. is that a lamb? just role with it. thank you for the question. we love it. mt. laurel animal hospital. i appreciate that much. i will actually give you the forecast right now. looking at these showers that moved through, they cleared out, the temperatures are what we're focused on, some sun and we're getting warm, 86-degrees by 4:00. there's clouds there, but no rain. there ill with be showers and storms mainly in the north and western suburbs this afternoon and this evening. so changing weather depending on where you live. it will be warming up a bit, already into the 70s. it did not cool off like it did
8:19 am
the past few morning. that's the humidity and a few clouds moving in. a warm start to the day south and east. mid 70s there in millville,ç wildwood and slight. ultimate doppler is all clear. the heat coming in, but look the at cooler spots there. these are the hours developing by about 4:00. it will spike up to 90-degrees. right around 95 could ease touch 90 or 91. you have cool air come off the ocean and the cool air coming in with the showers, especially in the north and western suburbs. it shows the temperatures in the mid 80s, but dropping to the 70s by 7:00. a lot of 70s, the cooler air comes in from the southeast today. 77 we're starting off warm. it's warm at noon with 85-degrees, but look at these showers developing. these will be mainly north and west. possibly a drenching then storm with a very heavy downpour and that's between 2 and 5:00.
8:20 am
it will clear out just a little bit but then we're talking about a heat wave. i'll show you when in the seven day. so far it has not been a great season for our phillies, but we got a rare bright spot in a dismalseason. did you watch the game? pitcher cole hamels pitching a no-hitter speculation mounts that it's maybe only six days he's going to be wearing our uniform. being a new mother is tough enough finding time to juggle everything. coming up a group just for moms aimed at keeping them in shape by at the same time allowing them to spend some quality time with their babies. think about that karen, you may and you will if you keep watching fox 29 weekend.

anything like that will put you in the follow and we're going toest some of these out so we can tell if it's blueberry cream cheese or we've got spicy artichoke. >> i'm jill ray with this weekend's look at the silly studies in scientific research. stress. we've all felt it and we all know sometimes we don't make the best decisions when we're under pressure. did we really need a team of researchers to let us know we need to calm down for the sake of our health? >> new research and scientific reports proves what we already know, stress is bad for you, but they took it one step further and found out it's bad for finances, too. they looked at stock traders and found out they're stressed out days actually were bad forth markets.
8:26 am
dr. mike is here to break it down. they measure youred their cortisol level and their test troll level. these are hormones that affect aggressive behavior. stress can have lots of negative effects. it can have affects on your cortisone level and what this study showed was that that elevation in cortisol may actually make you do things that you normally wouldn't want to do and it may result in you making poor choices in your stock acquisitions. it's no stock tip, but dr. mike's advice is always on the money even if this study seems

> the 3 two pitch to chris brian in the air to center field, her regard a is going back, does he have it, it reaches down, did he make the catch, the #th no-h hitter in philadelphia hillieses franchise history has a little bit of drama right at the end. they almost messed that up. phyllis pitcher cole hamels estreping because of that tremendous performance in what may have been his last performance in a philadelphia uniform. this is a game they will never forget. cole hamels throwing that no hitter against the cubsment to chicago wrigleyville field we go, hamels mowed down those cubbies like it was nothing. he had 13 strikeouts on the way
8:30 am
to his first-no hitter of his career. hamels became the first pitcher to throw a no no against the cubs in 50 years. after the game he talked about that. nothing will top winning a world series but i think thinks top on the top list. i was happy that i was able to execute pitchers in the first two innings. i've had a tough time in the past couple of weeks to be able to do so. finally feel like i had a comfortable rhythm, especially in my mechanics annual a the stuff i've been working on in the next couple of days it finally felt like it was clicking. it's definitely one of most more special moments i've had. philly fans haven't had a lot to celebrate immediately started to celebrate, hashtag no hitter. i love philly no hitter cole hamels very happy about it. other people commenting about the incredible no hitter and
8:31 am
then one that actually stands out to me, here we go, this is what i was looking for, cole hamels of the phillies just enhanced his trade value with his first no hitter. so we love cole hamels we love all the reaction, the response we're getting, but it does like cole hamels having that no hitter may hick him more valuable as the trading line approaches. keep all the comments come in, just make sure you use our fox 29 weekend and the hashtag no hitter. this is a big deal. when it actually happens it's when everybody stops talking about it. is it really happening. what did you think? >> the one thing that stood out was the outfield, the fly ball. i played outfield and i never wanted to be in that cig. no hitter, just a simple fly ball. there were some winds, he had to dive for it. that's what struck me. that was the personification of
8:32 am
the philly season. he had it, it was right there and he stepped back. but this time they caught it. he caught it. they had a no hitter and they're surging to last place. what did you play and where. >> left field and i was at hill top, delaware county. i played there for a while. minor, also. we got an athlete. years ago. i was no good at baseball. i wonder how howard was. time now for knocking the king. hey, howard, i'm dillon from drexel hill and i heard what you had to say about sam making the sixers and i disagree. he puts out a statement on the injury status of joel mb. that was a coverup for another broken bone in his foot. it's clear he wasn't telling the truth and still am fans believe
8:33 am
in sam. they are the sons of sam and they got a player in joel mb who may never play a second in the nba, but i'm astonished that segment of believer still exists. stop drinking the hinge can i cool aid. i see where you're coming from, howard, but i mean i'd rather try something new rather than sit at the seven or eight see the and just get pounded by whatever team labron is on. that's great. you'd rather try something newark but remember this they're still going to sit at the seventh or eighth see the with what we're doing. let me look you in the eye and just explain this, the plan has failed. they wanted wig instance one year, didn't get him and they gottshall bead who will never play most likely. they drafted michael carter williams with the 11 1 #th pick they realized he wasn't good enough and now the pick they're going to get from the lakes will be 13 to 20. but honesty is what it's all about.
8:34 am
understand, the truth will set you free. do you like to be deceived? i can't -- sons of sam are ridiculous, but whatever cool aid flavor you want, just let me know and i'll try to help you out. son of sames live. think what you have what it takes to knock me. shoot your rid ohio, send it to us and i'll talk to you next week. he's got thick skin. when you're a new mom, no one gives you a manual when you're home with your baby. you don't always know what to do. you're very overwhelmed but we do have a little bit of help. trying to find the time to juggle l everything can3seem impossible, but coming up a group just for moms aimed at keeping them in shape while at the same time allowing them to spend quality time with their babies. dave, spend time outside, you might need an umbrella later. ultimate doppler, but it's clear now, showers and storms moving
8:35 am
in. let's see if it will hit your neighborhood, coming up with the complete forecast. i'm anthony mongeluzzo and this is your tech bite from the tech tank. technology is always evolving and these big companies are starting to listen. one of of the major questions i get asked as a tech guy, why isn't google, microsoft protect ting you from the threats. if you're a fan of google and the chrome browser they are now introducing new software that will let you know if a website you're going to potentially has a virus. you can still choose to go to that website but the chrome browser and only the chrome bowser will put up a warning. the other thing governor christie l is trying to do. they have a new technology that when you search if a site is bad it's going to remove it from the results so you don't have to click on it or won't have the ability toment another company getting with the times, instagram, everyone is on instagram and the pictures are great, the resolution is good,

8:43 am
8:44 am
8:45 am
she is 35 years old. she's been fighting breast cancer for two years. last year she was given a terminal diagnosis and began thinking of her daughter's live without you. good morning to you. good morning. bright and chipper. such a wonderful spirit. i'm happy i'm not dead. why can you choose to do this. >> basically once i got the terminal news, the most heart breaking part was knowing that my daughter and husband would be sad and i wouldn't be here to comfort them and so i kind of
8:46 am
started thinking of a way that maybe i could be here to comfort them if it was something that would help. so i started picking up some little trinkets here and there and then i just started picking up cards and one day i kind of rated the local hallmark store. they have cards for everything. lots of them aren't necessarily deep live advice, you know, perfect cards. they're just sort of what i would write if i was here. >> sometimes i just say things like i'm proud of you and i love you and my love is unconditional. i just closure eyes and imagine getting a big hug or just encouragement. like, you can do it. it turned into this really beautiful experience of it being a positive thing that i have the opportunity to be able to do this for my daughter. so it's there if it will help her one day. how many cards have you made or
8:47 am
how many videos so farment i only have a couple videos, but i probably have 50 cardsment once i started doing it i started finding all these neat cards of just things that say sometimes you need wine, kleenex and netflix. so i'm kind of bringing them up along the way and putting them in a little safe for her when shows ' older. what do you say to her now? what does she think of this whole watching your journey right now. >> it's completely normal. mommy has always had cancer. mommy not having hair or mommy getting keep he owe, it's completely normal live to her. she is meet worried. she's not scared. she's just this happy, awesome, amazing spirit and anything that i can do to make sure that she stays that way regardless of what happens it really gives me a the look of piece of mind. you just inspire us to trash of single moment and to put our

phones down and absorb the moment that we are in at this time. i can't even imagine the moment when the doctors certainly gave you that terrible news. how did you turn that into something where you're going to face it, i'm going to take it on and i'm going to be strong. like i said before, i'm not dead yet. so it's kind of like you can live in fear worrying about what's going to happen down the road and waste time now being upset over the situation or you can appreciate today because people my age they're often naive to the fact that everyone is going to die some day. you could go first, you don't know. the fact that i get to live with this appreciation for every day is really kind of this amazing gift. we cram more memories and laughter into a day than i ever thought was possible. well, it's a gift you sharing your time with us this morning. we really do appreciate it.
