minutes. good morning everyone and eelworm to fox 29 he can end. 8:00 o'clock. i'm bill anderson. karen is taking much deserved day off. >> a little break. >> dave and i will try and hold it. >> down, we can hold it down just fine. everything look pretty good out there, and we have a lot of news coming up. the first want to get you started with the weather. you step outside. this is what you have to just a few thin clouds out there across center city. nice and comfortable. lookinlooking at another nice d. not completely perfect. not crystal clear perfect weather on our scale. we're still fairly high but can't call 810. low humidity it's still warm. looking at just a few clouds out there slight breeze. not bright sunshine and certainly today is the day because things are downhill from here. into the upper 60s now. it's cooled off a bit into the few of the suburbs. 67 in reading. had a few high clouds come in last night. that really kept the temperature from dropping too much. didn't get quite as cool as it look like it was going to this time yesterday with these high thin clouds moving in. millville is at 66.

wildwood is at 70 degrees. a few showers just north of harrisburg fall fall apart as they push east. so today 85 degrees in the city. another warm day. that cool breeze again down the shore maybe not quite as strong as it was yesterday. we have clouds fairly mild weather in the poconos there 78 degrees. now, one storm moves out. another moves in. this is what we're talking about this week. first off the headline this is the next storm we're tracking. it will be very heavy rain. only one day. only one day we're talking about here this coming up. i'll look at that in the seven day forecast coming up a little bit later. bill. >> sounds good, thanks, dave as we said we're following breaking story this morning in society hill. a family is grieving after their loved one is killed in a crash overnight. sabina kuriakose is live. sabina, people are still on the scene. what can you tell us about what happened? >> reporter: well, bill, just a short time ago i'm told the family was here at the scene. they arrived just after it happened and of course they were extremely upset to see what happened.

let's take look right now at this scene. police have actually towed away the vehicle firefighters were here just a short timing a hosing the area down but you can see just the aftermath of this horrific car crash here. trees down as well as on the sidewalk. there's so much damage here. let's take look at video we gathered for you just a short time ago from the scene as investigators were combing through the wreckage. absolutely heartbreaking. four young people were in this car. one of them the driver was ejected from the black toyota for runner and he was killed when police say it struck the curb at fourth and rom bar it went airborne and hit two trees before coming to a rest on its side. both of the air bags did deploy in the vehicle and the car i can tell you you can see from that video was just a total wreck. it actually landed on its side. now the driver died at the scene. the family says he had just turned 21 years old. now, all three of the passengers in that vehicle along with the driver we're told are live long friends. all of them area college students and in fact they were

scheduled to head back to school in just a short time. two of the passengers were men one of them was woman. all three of them refused treatment at the scene and they were told they were okay. now accident scene investigators were here looking into exactly what may have caused this accident. they say speed was definitely a factor but they have ruled out alcohol as being a factor. they say alcohol was not involved. now, back here live, again, this is in society hill at the corner of fourth and lombard short distance from where our station is and the speed limit here is actually 25 miles per hour. police say that right now it looks like four young people in this vehicle were going much faster than that. but again the investigation continues. one person dead in this horrific accident. bill? >> sabina, i know they're continuing to look into this and they've ruled out alcohol. were these just friends spending time together getting ready to go back to school? is there any more information into why they were even there overnight?

>> reporter: what it appears right now they were just four friends hanging out. we are also told they go to colleges here in the city we're not sure if they go to the same college or the same college but we know obviously they're getting ready to go back to school. save to assume they were just hanging out getting together. we're told they knew each other for a very long time and all of their families in the area as well as i mentioned family actually arrived on the scene just after it happened at 6:00 o'clock this morning. so all locals. all just spending time together and again police not telling us even if they were out, alcohol was not a factor we're told. again, doesn't look like they were drinking but speed devil was. bill. >> thank you very much, sabina. keep us informed. it's a tragedy. we'll bring more information as we get it. new this morning investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire overnight in north philadelphia. firefighters were called to north broad and york streets just after 1:00 a.m. the fire started inside a vacant apartment but quickly spread to the chinese take out restaurant below. two people were evacuated but

thankfully no one was hurt. also new from overnight philadelphia police are investigate a shooting that happened in the 6300 block of somerdale avenue. that's in the lawn crest section of the city. police say a 26-year-old man was walking down the sidewalk when someone shot him in the back. they're looking for information. so anyone who has any, please call the police right now. happening today, in response to a lot of the violence in the community, people will gather in north philadelphia to take a stand against gun violence. a rally will be held at 4:00 o'clock this afternoon across from the gun range that's in the 500 block of north percy street. organizers are against new gun store that could open at that location. and we continue to follow the case of attorney general kathleen kane. yesterday morning we told you it would happen. and it did. pennsylvania's em balanced attorney general turned herself in to answer criminal charges. kathleen kane was arraigned in norristown and then released on

$10,000 bond. she is facing several charges including perjury, stemming from allegations that she leaked confidential grand jury information, then tried to cover it up. she was fingerprinted and a mug shot was taken. she came and left the arraignment without talking to reporters but her attorney did talk saying the full story of what happened hasn't come out yet. >> we're very confident that when all the facts in the case come out that she's going to be exonerated she has no plans to resign at this point. >> now kane did not enter a plea. her preliminary hearing is set for later this month. and one year ago today, michael brown was shot and killed by a ferguson, missouri police officer. his death set off a series of protests around the country about police killing african-americans and starte std the black lives matter movement. yesterday, hundreds of people gathered at the spot where the shooting took place to remember the 18-year-old. his father michael brown, sr. led the march. he says time has not healed the

pain of losing his son. >> we hurting. you know, i can't tell nobody else how they feel about they kid or what they going to through to get back, but how i get by, i hurt every day. i have to stay moving, doing, overrunning just to keep me from going insane. >> u.s. department of justice and a st. louis county grand jury cleared officer darrin wilson of wrongdoing in the shooting. wilson resigned from the ferguson police department last november. and this morning, hundreds of families forced out of their homes after a massive wildfire in arizona. the fire is burning near the northwestern border of california. dozens of firefighters have been battling the blaze throughout the night. the fire has already destroyed some homes. residents say they got in just in the nick of time. >> all at once the just came great big wall and just moving. when it moved it was moving.

♪ good morning everyone. welcome back to fox 29 weekend. just about 8:12. looking out on beautiful day thus far in center city. we continue oh get you caught up on everything that's taken place in our city, state, country and all over the world. and this is one of those stories that has everybody all over the country talking. it's our cover story this morning. a 19-year-old from indiana is fighting to clear his name. he's being labeled as a sex offender and here's why. zach anderson met a girl from michigan on the dating app hot or not. he says she told him she was 17 and the two made plans to meet and they had sex. it turns out she was really 14 years old and in michigan the age of consent is 16. now, he's been banned from using a computer, having or even

holding a smart phone or living in a place with internet access for five years. we wanted to discuss whether the punish many fits the crime. joining us now on skype attorney heather hanson who always breaks it down for us and good morning to you. >> hi, bill. how you doing. >> i'm good. i'm good. i hope you are as well. now on the surface it sounds like -- he is 19. she is 14. but everyone has acknowledged that she misrepresented her age. why is this the case and isn't there some sort of defense for someone who legitimately didn't know? >> yes. our statutory rape laws are pretty strict similar here in pennsylvania. similar in new jersey. delaware is even more strict. so this is similar to what would happen in many other states. the problem here is that the teen admitted to his crime and tried to enter a plea deal. under the assumption that he would fall into an exception and not have to have hisself register as a sex suv fender. the judge had different idea. he seemed very upset with the

idea of teen sexual relations and he's the one that sort of stepped outside the norm and decided to give this teen a really unusual and very harsh punishment. >> hold the thought for a second on the judge. i want to come back to that but so many people are talking about this on social media. we wanted to get them in on the discussion. jenn writes an very sad world when teens are on hot or not and adult website and nobody noticing still one gets labeled a offender? tracy says that judge is wrong to ruin this boy's future over a mistake. you can punish in a different way. it's not right. i'm kind of looking at what tracy said and coming back to that judge, it seems like, one, you had angry -- two, you had room for discretion everybody grease it was a mistake. is the judge over reaching? >> in my opinion he most certainly is. you know, it seems pretty clear from some of the statements he made in the bench he seems to have a pre disposition against teen sex and maybe some of douse. he talked about that young man was trolling for sex and that he went and said goodbye to the c

car. it seems as though this judge rules in way that was unusual, and the other problem with this, bill, is that troop pedophiles who are on the sexual offender registries are now not as easily to be traced because you've got a lot of teens who are on the sex offender registry because of situations jut like this. clearly, we need some sort of reform in the law. >> it's interesting to note, also, that both the young lady and her mother do not think that he should be punished this severely. >> right. >> one of the tweets that came in talked about nobody knew the ages on this website. is there any company liability for allowing this to happen? >> a great question, bill, you would certainly thin so. you know, the websites all of the web sites have a lot of protection under the law. there's a lot of different statute that is protect web sites from civil liability. however in this situation i do think the young man would be able to pursue some sort of a case for the idea that this girl was able to go on this website and act act although she was of

the upper 60s north and west. then climbing into the 70s there in philadelphia. 70 in trenton and it drops a little bit to millville, 72 in wildwood. get that wind coming in off the ocean. you can actually see this with the computer forecast. we show that storm moving out. that gave us northeast wind yesterday. beautiful sunshine there coming in from ventnor city, new jersey, always great pictures sent in. a nice shot there now the sun is there. maybe just a few clouds coming in later. especially north and west but look at across the delmarva and south jersey that's that sea breeze developing again. happening about two or 3:00 o'clock. might just develop a few clouds. a few sprinkles trying come down in the north and western suburb but calling for mostly a dry day today. all the clouds clear out overnight tonight. but then the high clouds move in ahead of this next storm. today is dry. that cooler air comes in. you can see it about two, 3:00 o'clock working its way from atlantic city close to philadelphia. also happening in delaware and across from the chesapeake. those two sea breezes combine

♪ >> we're following breaking news in houston texas this morning. devastating story. police say that five children and three adults were found shot and killed inside a home overnight. discovery was made after officers went to the home to do a welfare check. when they tried to enter the home, a man inside started shooting at the officers. standoff ensued for several hours. the suspect has surrendered. no word yet on whether the 49-year-old gunman is related to the victims. 8:30 the pope's visit to philadelphia will be a historic one. over a million people are expected to come to the city to hear and see pope francis in september. among them several lgbt catholic families and one group is making a pilgrimage to see pope. all sponsored by the catholic organization equally blessed. the group requeste requested a g with pope francis and joining us now to talk more about that me meeting john freme from the equally blessed coalition. good morning, sir.

>> good morning. >> we appreciate you spending some time with us. tell us ultimately sure what the meeting is about and what you would hope to accomplish if in fact you get the meeting. >> sure. like you said, equally blessed is sending a group of 22 pilgrims altogether. we represent a dozen families from all across the country and even internationally as well to the world meeting of families in philadelphia and our purpose here to claim our rightful place at the table. so you asked about the pope. our main purpose here in reaching out direct toll pope francis is that we want him to see us and to understand some of the harm that his bishops have done to us and to our families. we want him to understand that we are present in every area of the church, you know, as lgbt lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender catholics. we are present as altar boys and altar servers as priests and deacons even as bishops and cardinals. we're teachers in catholic

schools. we're doctors in catholic hospitals. and we have a lot of support in the church as well. we want him to listen to our stories and see us. that's all. >> an interesting dynamic because this pope, pope francis, does appear to be pretty progressive and more opener happens than in the past to have these discussions. historically the church isn't. so is this about changing overall views, changing policies and are you optimistic? >> i am optimistic but i think it's also important to differentiate between the church and the hierarchy church which consists of bishops and cardinals and priests. so the church actually is the people of god. it's the people in the pews as well as the hierarchy. and as the people of god, we have an overwhelming amount of support. i think the latest numbers i've seen say that 76% of catholics support same sex relationships. over 70% of catholics support laws that would protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and trance jent catholics from discrimination

before marriage equality became the law of the land. catholics actually supported marriage equality in far greater numbers than the general population. these are all members backed by research from the public research institute -- number religion research institute wonder non-partisan neutral polls and studies that have been conducted. >> the church as the people of god already supports us. >> we were seeing while you're speaking we're showing some of the pictures of families and support you have coming with y you. married gay couple, transgender individual. a son of a gay couple that is not -- excuse me a son who's gay himself and accepted at school. is part of this publicize wagon may be a changing face of the church or of the religion? >> yeah. again, even though the church is the people of god support us our leaders often don't, and so we are here, we will be in philadelphia to make our

presence known and to claim our rightful spot at the table. i find a lot of hope among the people of god the people in the pews and find a lot of hope in pope francis much he's opened a lot of doors and people feel like they can start talking about issue that is were previously taboo or off the table. he's said great things like the famous who am i to judge quote when talking about gay priests. but he doesn't really yet go far enough when it does come to women's issues and when it comes to lgbt issues. he kind of has a stick in his eye about these things. every once in awhile you'll hear him meet with a transgender catholic or with a gay activist, and those things really give you hope and then he turns around and says something like condemn tower of gender theory and of course he doesn't have the best record op lgbt issues when he was bishop in argentina. but he's evolving. a lot of people have evolved on lgbt issues in the past five or 10 years.

so an empty stadium today. between two storms here. one moving out, one or two clouds here coming in. and then we have to look at this next one. this will be a big one this coming week. it's slowly working its way across the great lakes. cannot see it now. high pressure trying to build in today. not quiet clear skies but off and on sun. this is the area here over the midwest where the storm will develop it's not developed yet but it will and really intensify quickly. there's showers and storms developing monday afternoon. maybe we'll see a shower or two here. tuesday is when it all begins. this could happen throughout date on tuesday. we have an area of rain coming in tuesday morning. that could be for the morning rush hour. then we could see a little break before more showers and storms moving in tuesday afternoon. if we get a little sunshine heat things up enough these could be actually a little few stronger storms there's marginal risk for severe weather on tuesday. so that will be the day. as far as the seven day forecast, you see that rain

her underwater and rolled her over and over again. >> nearby can newers and today yack kearse heard screaming when they realized the woman was being attacked, one of them started hitting the alligator with a paddle. the woman was bitten in the torso and part of her arm was ripped off. witnesses held get the woman to shore. and called 911. a lot of people came to the rescue there. >> yeah, that's crazy. people got on me because i don't like doing shark stores and alligator stories. >> i stay out of the water. >> make fun of me if you want to. another interesting story a woman from suburban chicago ends up in the middle of a face off with facebook. she says the social media giant wouldn't allow her to post a photo of herself without makeup. >> now lisa goodman suffers from scleroderma it can cause read splotches and hardening of the skin. she reach out to a 23-year-old blogger who is suffering multiple organ failure from the disease. >> it was a tomorrow to raise awareness they decided to post

with in afghanistan as a u.s. army contract worker. holland's hero is january go, a german shepherd dog u.s. army service number a.m. k9. as a team, the two potentially saved hundreds of us servicemen's lives. searching for explosives around base walton in afghanistan's kandahar province. when holland got injured in the line of duty, the inseparable was separated. >> an hour before he was taken away from me i said to him i'll fulfill a promise i made to you along the whole journey i'm going to bring him home and we're going to be together. >> reporter: it's not easy to get dog out of afghanistan. but after journey taking two weeks, holland was finally told he could come and collect the animal from quarantine. >> i'm lost for words. i'm so over women, happy, nervous, emotions at the moment. and i've been waiting a long time for this day.

low humidity again. so certainly a nice weekend. not bright sunshine all day but enough to warm these temperatures up. close to 70 in allentown. we're continuing that climb from philadelphia 74 into the 80s this afternoon and to the south it is little cooler today with that breeze again not as strong as yesterday. as the storm which caused that gusty northeast wind has move out but we'll see another sea breeze developing in you're down the shore nice end to the weekend pretty comfortable you'll see she breezes devil, these clouds move in across new jersey and they're combining across delaware -- delmarva from the delaware bay and the chesapeake bay that sea breeze eminase creates clouds here. one or two showers will try to creep their way into the north and western suburbs don't think this will amount to much a hint of what will come. as we're talking about showers and storms. after we climb into the 80s today. the rain comes in. both monday and tuesday. tuesday is the day with the heaviest rain followed by cooler weather especially in the mornings. i'm pitt master glenn gross

with fat jacks barbecue and this is your fox food bite. ♪ with barbecue season in full swing we're here at the new fat jack's in elkins park pennsylvania i'll show you guys how to do a stuffed burger. specifically stuffed with blue cheese and bacon. what we'll start with is about 3 pounds of 80/20 blend ground beef. add a little bit of salt, a pinch or two. no set measurement. little black pepper same thing a pinch or two of black pepper now that you're salt and pepper is in the meat. let's go ahead and mick it. mix it really well so the salt and pepper gets throughout the meat. half cup of crumbled blue cheese, any brand will. to bacon you made fresh. cut it up. chop it up, and about three quarters of a cup. all we do, mix it together. i can smell that blue cheese. now let's make burgers. grab about 5-ounces of your mixture, your grand beef patti it out a little bit.

you want it about half inch or or so thick so you form your patti. make a little pocket in the middle. a little indentation that's where our blue cheese mixture will go. put it down. grab some blue cheese and bacon mixture. about an ounce and a half or so. pop it in that little indentation. so now a little bit more ground beef about 3 ounces or so patti it up and this is the top of your burger. this actual burger is going to be two piece burger put together. give a lynn indentation. there you go. crimp the edges much this way nothing escapes. pat it down a little bit now it's time to season our we are g little bit of lowry season salt on the front rub it in a little bit on the back rub it in a little bit. my other favorite is montro al steak seasoning rub both sides, one, two. that's about eight to 10-ounce burger. let's head outside and grill our burger. all right. let's put these guys on the grill. listen to that sizzle.

see that smoke. you want to pre heat your grill little bit give it 10 minutes or so. before you put everything on. let me give you a little secret how to tell when your burgers are done. hold your hands up. that part of your hand is rare that's what a burger will feel like when you touch that. that's medium rare, medium, well and well cup. every time if you use that trick you'll be able to tell when your burgers are finish. halfway through the first side you'll turn your burger and give a quarter turn, half a turn, there's a reason for that get criss-crosses on there. it's time to flip our burgers. let's take a look. oh, they look really good. little caramelized char marks that's exactly what you want when you're cooking burgers on the grill outside. i stuffed my burgers with blue cheese and bacon. stuff these with other you want, cheddar jack cheese, american cheese, you don't need bacon,

sausage, pepperoni. make a sudden pizza burger with pizza cause and mozzarella cheese. you can do everything you want. i'm giving you the basics of a stuffed burger. let's get them off the grill and set them up on the role and we'll eat him in a minute. here's your stuffed barbecue. i'm pitt master chef jack's pi fat jack's barbecue and this has been your food bite. here we go. ♪
