8:01 am
holiday weekend. >> we'll give her a day off. we've got great things and great weather. >> great weather yes. we are seeing things clear out. that is our live picture over center city. when you step outside, nice and comfortable. now check out this tweet i got and i will read it as they wrote it. there's the low clouds but we talked about this yes. it was muggy, that humidity was dropping and it's dropped now. so the weather number today is a 9. not a perfect 10 because we have those clouds out will. they will be clearing out here throughout the morning. heat wave ends.
8:02 am
it was hot yesterday but not today. dew point is at 62. 73, we're on our way, but the heat does came in the 7-day. i'll look at that coming up later. >> we'll take it. and happening today as we said, there's a lot of things going on. it's one of the biggest parties of the year. just hours from now, tens of thousands of people will kick off the labor day weekend on the parkway. they're going to enjoy the made in america festivities and our own joanne is live right now checking out the final preparations before the festival gets under way. it's pretty exciting out there as things come together. >> it is pretty exciting as things come together. good morning everyone. it is almost showtime and it is almost time for the made in america music festival. it is expected to be one of the largest events of this type that the city has hosted, 70,000
8:03 am
people expected to pass through these gates when the concert starts at 1:15, 70,000 people tomorrow as well. this is the fourth year for this concert, which features beyonce and 60 other musical acts on five different stages today and tomorrow. this major event comes just three weeks before the papal visit and city officials say they are using this event as a practice run for hosting the more than 1 million people expected in the city when pope francis is here in a couple of weeks. >> there are just certain things that have to be done no matter what you do. at an outdoor event. so we learned from all the events that we have in this city. what you constantly want to do in public is make sure that everybody is working together. make sure that everybody has -- is on the same channels, that know all the protocols that understand how to get things

done. >> of course the city knows how to get things done. they say they learn each time from each event how to do things and how to get things right. now the city is making use of its grid systems, of signs and numbers. if you do have a problem there are signs located on the parkway with a letter and a number. if you have a problem, use your cell phone call and emergency services will be there. the city has also enhanced its services with communications systems, with cell carriers and they expect no problem with massive numbers of people using cell phones. again it is an absolutely gorgeous day. there were some current concerns that it would be extremely hot like it was last year but it's a gorgeous day for a huge musical event and festival. sea we'll be here live in the next hour. again, there's people lined up behind me. they want to be the first ones in. it will be a great day here. back to you in the studio. >> sounds great, joanne. and the one thing they keep

rowan county that those licenses are void. they are not being issued under the authority of rowan county clerk's office and they're not worth the paper they are written on. >> this story has been blowing up all over social media. doesn't kim davis know that love always wins. don't try to fight it because you'll lose. all you people arguing, you do realize she's in jail solely because of something that she believes in. so let's bring in fox 29 legal analyst on skype. ken, there's a battle going on. religious freedom versus the law. and she's kind of standing on her religious freedom and her belief system but legally does she even have a leg to stand on? >> she has no leg to stand on at all. the law of the land is that gay marriage is legal in all 50 states. it's a federal law.
8:08 am
it's been a law since june of this year. so she has no grounds to stand on at all. the interesting question to me is how long is she going to be in jail and the judge basically says he's going to revisit the issue at the end of the week. but she's going to be in there indefinitely unless she complies with the law. >> that's an interesting perspective for you to bring up because nobody is going to do life for contempt of court. she continues to say that she's going to stand her ground. now mike huckabee and other presidential candidates are jumping up and supporting her. who will crack first? >> the judge is duty bond to follow the law as she is. she has two choices. she can either resign if she fails to comply with the law and fails to enforce the law, or she can go back and start issuing licenses. it's kind of interesting what her lawyer said. her lawyer said that the deputies under her who have now
8:09 am
issued licenses, that those licenses aren't worth the paper that they're made out on and i think that he's probably right. because i think that the county clerk is a person that has to sign off on all marriage certificates in kentucky. so right now those people that even have licenses, i think they're probably not valid licenses under kentucky law. >> that's interesting because shouldn't there be some sort of provision. what if the elected official gets sick? isn't there generally a next in line that can sign off? >> you would think so because obviously she's gone on vacation before. they couldn't have a situation where they wouldn't give out marriage licenses. so maybe at that point she delegated her authority to somebody else. but what she's saying here is i'm not delegating my authority to anybody. we are not giving out licenses to gay couples. so she's taking a stand here and it really is a stand between her and the federal judge and i'm putting my money on the federal

judge. >> her son also refusing to give them out as well. could others go to contept as well? >> there are six deputy clerks in the office. five of them have told the judge they will give marriage licenses. the son has said he will not do it. he will follow the wishes of his mother. but right now in kentucky they are giving out marriage licenses so there's no reason for the federal judge to impose any type of sanctions on anybody else. it's a battle between him and the clerk that right now as we're talking, she's sitting there in jail. >> great to see you. so i better be careful, they'll do a nepotism investigation why he even has the job. enjoy your weekend. >> thanks, good to see you. >> the comments continue to come in. you can tweet us leave our comments, just make sure you use the hash tag #fox29weekend so we can find them and continue the discussion.

>> we've got good weather. let's look at the sunshine here. but you have to look at the flowers. this in middle town, delaware. bright sunshine later today. weather by the numbers. it's up a little bit, not quite a perfect day. it's at a 9 because the heat wave ends. lower humidity, just a few clouds around you saw that with that picture and a light breeze. you'll feel that breeze today. there's the camera shaking just a little bit. brought in some cooler air, 75 now. we will climb into the 80s today, but no 90s. 75 is the current temperature. 60s and 70s. they're bumping it up to 70 now in pottstown. 74 millville through woodbine and atlantic city. with the east northeast wind it keeps the weather cooler from cape may up to atlantic city up along the coast here. ultimate doppler, no more stores
9:02 am
but they're back in the 7-day forecast. >> i figured out why dave is so excited about the weather because both he and karen will be on vacation. we'll be here holding it down for you, folks. we've got you. we'll be holding it down with a lot of great events going on. including one of the biggest parties of the year just hours from now. tens of thousands of people will kick off the labor day weekend on the parkway enjoying the made in america festivities. it's one of the biggest parties of the year anywhere just hours from now and our own joanne is there she's on scene. we want to be there, so tell us what's going on. >> reporter: here's what's going on. it is an absolutely stunning, gorgeous, summer morning here along the parkway. a lot of what takes place on a summer morning takes place. they're walking their dogs, riding their bikes, drinking coffee on a gorgeous saturday morning. but what is taking place, what's
9:03 am
different, what happens on labor day weekend is the made in america music festival. four hours and 15 minutes before the first act takes to the stage. there is a sound check going on right now and there are a lot of things still taking place. as you can imagine, this is a huge event to put together. they expect 70,000 people will be walking through those gates right there a little bit later today. now as we said, this is the fourth year of this event. and it's no easy task to put on. it is -- it features 60 musical acts on five different stages. beyonce the headliner tonight and this major event comes just three weeks before the papal visit and city officials told us any are using this as a practice

run. >> there are just certain things that have to be done no matter what you do at an outdoor event. so we learn from all the events that we have in this city. what you constantly want to do in public safety is make sure that everybody is working together. make sure that everybody has -- is on the same channels, that know all the protocols, that understand how to get things done. >> reporter: here's how they get things done. they take security very seriously. obviously we have the gated system set up here. i spoke to some security officials who tell me there are multiple layers of security for this festival. and you can imagine why with 70,000 people being here along the parkway. that's what they need. there are fences set up for blocks along the parkway. you can check the fencing right here. you won't be able to get in here without a ticket. this is a ticketed event. 70,000-plus people here, will be
9:05 am
here today and they will be going through these security gates. they will be setting up metal detectors and metal wands as the people pass through here today. now we were out here about 7:30 this morning and we met some friends here this morning. are you guys excited for the festival here today? >> you already know. >> i already know? who's your favorite? >> i'm here to see vick menz za, you've got to see queen bey. >> have a great day out there. >> that's what's happening. the first act takes the stage at 1:15 today. it should be a perfect day for the made in america festival. >> people already getting there. already excited to have a great time. have a great time. >> i didn't mean to cut you off. we'll get back with joanne and she can tell us what's going on. talking about the labor day weekend, it's very late this year and it seems to have taken a toll on the crowds at the jersey shore this weekend.
9:06 am
with many kids starting school last week there seemed to be a lighter than formal turnout on the boardwalk. but they say it was a banner year. and shops on the boardwalk know this is the last weekend to make some real money. >> after this weekend it completely changes. >> there's nobody here. >> the good thing you said about the restaurants and you walk up and sit down and eat you don't have to stand in line forever. >> it may be a little slow right now, but ocean city is already looking ahead with social media posts pushing summer rentals for 2016. we're following a developing story this morning. a scary start to the holiday weekend for dozens of people on south street after someone opens fire outside of a concert. it happened around 8:15 last night in the 300 block of south street outside the tla theater. police tell us a 25-year-old man was killed. the shots rang out while several
9:07 am
people were in-line waiting to hear rapper little durk perform. police say bullets did hit the bus but no one was hurt. so many people have been talking about and following this story. two new jersey day care workers accused of insti gating fights between young children. union county prosecutors are charging 22-year-old erica kenny and 28-year-old shanice white with child abuse. they say they encouraged kids to shove and hit each other all while cheering them on. kenny is facing additional charges. none of the children were seriously hurt and both women were fired from the day care. and a former teacher was fired for writing nasty things about students on her personal blog. she can't use free speech when she tries to defend herself, her lawsuit to get her job back. an appeals court ruled that.
9:08 am
natalie monroe's lawsuit was ruled invalid because her posts didn't rise to the level of constitutionally expressed protection. she called students disengaged, lazy whiners and disobedient disrespectful oafs. she was fired in 2012 after a student actually discovered that blog. and credit agencies are warning pennsylvania that the state's credit rating could be down graded. standard and poor's said there's uncertainty the state will be able to help cash school districts. however moody's says the immediate threat is minimal. pennsylvania's credit rating is below average currently among u.s. states. coming up, is it tebow time? with news of matt barkley's trade, the eagles roster seems to be shaping up. what can we expect from our
9:11 am
>> good morning, everybody. and we are looking live out over philadelphia. there's some haze in the air, and the humidity is down and it is just a beautiful day. so get up and get outside after you finish watching us. we're here with your weather updates here and it's a beautiful day but things will be changing just a little bit. no matter what you're doing
9:12 am
outside, we'll ask you to tell us what you're doing. will the weather be good? that's a yes. bright sunshine, low humidity and just a light breeze out there. that front came through yesterday, that was the focus for a few storms. it's now pushed west of the area. coming in the backwards way here. now it's pushed west so those storms are out of here. close-up screw shows we have some clouds they'll be clearing out throughout the afternoon 6789 there's bright sunshine, cooling out. just a light breeze. we'll keep an eye on just a few showers staying to the south of atlantic city and cape may. but it looks like we're dry through the weekend. not the case in the 7-day forecast. there's that wind coming in about 10 to 15 miles per hour. that will keep the temperature down along the coast and keep us in the 80s here. but we have 90s back in the
9:13 am
7-day. i'll show you when coming up a little bit later. >> september is kind of a tweener month when it comes to retail. that's because it sits between the back to school shopping season and the soon-to-be busy holiday rush. that means retailers are going to be doing all they can to keep the registers ringing. you can score some great deals in september. first if you need a new ride, now is the time to pick up a good deal on a 2015 model year leftover. that's because dealers want to move the metal, clean out the lots and get ready for the 2016 models. check out edmond.com to find out all the incentives you might be eligible for. and flip flops never go out of style and now you can pick up
9:14 am
a pair pretty cheap. all things related to summer are pretty cheap. last september i scored a great deal on a lawn mower. not because i like cutting the grass, i just hate paying someone else to do it. and september is a great time to pick apples. not just this kind, but this kind too. that's because apple usually introduces their new iphone in september. that means you can score a great discount on this year's current model. that's smart. but there is a few things you shouldn't buy in september. if you want a 2016 model car, don't buy it now. you'll pay top dollar. want to add to your winter wardrobe? wait another month or so. wait until black friday or the week before the super bowl. best time to pick one up. no matter what you're looking for this september, check out a website called dealnews.com.
9:15 am
that will save you a boat load of money and precious time that means you'll have more time to pick apples this september. i'm cashing out. >> in your health this morning. see if this sounds familiar. you rush home from work, your child refuses to touch it. picky eaters is a problem so many parents are grappling with. i have a pick kwli either on my hands but we just keep trying. life is why. and liz wrote having a picky either for a toddler is the absolute worse. my kid would rather starve, i swear. picky eaters equal bad parents. your kid is a picky either because you allow him to be. if your kid doesn't eat, allow
9:16 am
him to go to bed hungry. there's the old airplane into the hangar routine, it works sometimes. they love the sugar. that sometimes is the only thing that she'll eat. i always try to throw some vegetables on her plate, but that's the big problem. how can we make peace at the dining room table sometime? we go to beth galvan she's talking to us about how to deal with a picky either. what's the best approach you think for parents to take? >> well, good morning, dave. it sounds like you're doing a good job because if you've got three little ones three and under, that's a tough job. but i think really it's important for you to remember and for other parents to remember that what's happening is natural. that kids when they're really young tend to eat everything you give them. but when they hit about 2, they
9:17 am
go through a natural phase where they have four or five foods that are their go-to foods that they want to eat and that's it. they don't want to try new stuff and that lasts until probably about kindergarten for some children. your role is to provide healthy food and give them options, put it on the table, serve it up, make sure they have a choice. it's the child's role to have a little bit of control, make the decision to learn how much they're going to eat. so you're teaching the child to listen to their body and i would not force food upon the child every night. because then you're going to get into this battle of you've got to eat this with the child resisting. >> we don't want to try to force it. at the same time we don't want to throw candy on their plate just to keep them quiet. let's say we try a new food. how many times do you think we should just put it there and let them not touch it before we say
9:18 am
all right, you have to eat this now? >> okay. you're not going to like my answer at all, dave. sometimes it will take like 10, 12 times before you can get a child to accept new food. a couple of strategies that might work is to combine a foot that your kids love like mac and cheese with something new like green beans on the plate. so you've got a mixture so the child can make some choices. the other thing you can do is cut up and serve small portions so you're gradually working them in. you're kind of trying to work the foods gradually in, having a little patience. dave? >> she can take that one little piece of carrot that i try to sneak into the mac and cheese. is there any chance, should you go to a pediatrician at all? >> so just real quickly. if your child looks healthy, is eating but is a picky either but
9:19 am
overall seems healthy, you don't have anything to worry about. if tt child is rejecting total food groups at one time like i will have no vegetables, then talk to your pediatrician about how to work those foods in and make sure the child doesn't have a nutritional deficiency. but overall most parents are doing just fine. you're doing a good job. stay at it. >> it's a pleasure to hear that. thank you very much for joining us. and we want to know if you have any issues, what you do. let us know. send us a tweet, talk to us on facebook. just remember to use the hash tag #fox29weekend. >> times have changed. i'm convinced that when i was a child my father thought that macaroni and cheese was a vegetable. coming up on fox 29 weekend, a sand sculpture competition on the beaches of california. this one has a theme. the theme of the olympics. can you tell who this sand sculpture is supposed to represent?
9:20 am
9:21 am
i'd like to put in my 15-year notice. you're quitting!? technically retiring, sir. with a little help from my state farm agent, i plan to retire in 15 years. wow! you're totally blindsiding me here. who's gonna manage your accounts? this is a devastating blow i was not prepared for. well, i'm gonna finish packing my things. 15 years will really sneak up on you. jennifer with do your exit interview and

perfect segue. we're looking at allentown, the statue of the unknown, listening to "allentown" and inevitably at some point dave will give us a forecast for allentown and wrap it all together. we also love it when you send us your pictures, your messages. this one coming in, her best weekend or summer experience was poconos with the kids. >> and this one from chris ta. she says her favorite memory was at cape may where they go every summer. >> and my best summer moment is 35 minutes away. we're about to go on vacation. >> what are their names real quick sm. >> lila, evan, they're twins and messy face there eating a doughnut? she's feeding them doughnuts before vacation? that's asher.
9:24 am
>> i'm bruce gord in. a recent south american vacation took me ever so briefly to the city of la paz, bolivia. billboards commemorating the pope's trip were all over town, but more important the city itself was still standing. i mention this because to hear folks around this city, you would swear philadelphia was destined to crumble into dust. which brings me into this week's rant. a phenomenon as old as mankind itself. for weeks now every columnist and pun dit lined up to kick city officials here in the shins over security. they seem alternately confused and outraged over each new pronouncement over where folks can go and when and why. the theme was very clear. by overreacting, philadelphia
9:25 am
seemed bush league, small time. then it happened. our annoying neighbors to the new york, and to the south, washington, d.c., agreed with our complaints. columnists in the times and the post echoed our complaints that by overreacting to the francis trip, we were cementing our image as the meaningless stopover. suddenly many those complainers did a 180 pointing out that neither new york floor dc will host anything like the massive public aevent the post will attend in philadelphia. remember when you were a kid you would call them every name in the book, but if someone else joibd in the criticism and agreed with you? those were fighting words. the theme around here is very clear. we can complain about papal preps. that's what we do. but we don't want to hear about it from outsiders, especially
9:26 am
those who consider philadelphia the cradle of democracy a rest stop on a highway between their oh, so important cities. only in philly. >> and i'm 100 % on board with bruce on this one. people always have something to say about philadelphia. we'll handle our city. coming up on the show, a controversy on a california beach. the problem? a lack of privacy. coming up the reason so many people are up in arms about these new beach bathrooms. plus we've got some big news for the eagles as they work to finalize their final 53-man roster and a big move that could clear the way for some tebow time.
9:27 am
9:28 am
9:29 am
9:30 on fox 29 weekend. it's time to talk about the eagles. there were a little over a week away from the regular season and not only are most people on board with chip kelly, but vegas odds are saying we have a legit chance to go to the super bowl. of course social media is buzzing with anticipation.
9:30 am
this season is all about sam bradford. if he's healthy, it is possible that they'll be successful. if he's injured, the eagles have to rely on sanchez or tebow and we'll be happy if we get to nine wins. and the obligatory tebow haters came out. what i'm not looking to is 10,000 comments a week about how tebow would have the team undefeated while he publicly slays lucifer for a halftime show. >> it's a pleasure being here. we're going to have a lot of fun. this is going to be a big year and of course we're going to be talking some tebow. not a lot, but getting started. let's start and be done with tebow for now. so tebow it looks like making the team. is he going to be somebody who this kind of positive attitude helps or is tebow time a distraction for the guys who actually play. >> i think chip might use him in
9:31 am
certain ways to waste time for the other team. if they've got to prepare for a running quarterback working on things they're really going to face. he's not going to play a great deal. i think he could hurt the other defense because they have to waste time preparing for sam bradford. >> last time you told me don't give them the championship just yet. how about now? >> it's been a week. vegas says we're top two or three. if you look at how they are offensively, they're very potent team. they're a monstrous team. the defense is going to make the course of the season. if they're outstanding, they can be a super bowl team. if they're mediocre they'll be a playoff team. and if they're not as good, they're struggling to make the playoffs. i think they've improved
9:32 am
defensively. the question is how much have they improved. >> we still don't know who our third corner is. we've got some pretty clear gaps. what are the biggest concerns you have? >> that nickel spot. you just mentioned it. a lot of times the nickelback really plays full time and he's on the field during that key situations when it's third down and 10, third down and 7. a key point in the game. you get a lead in the fourth quarter, that guy is going to be on the field because the other team is throwing the ball. that's why i wasn't thrilled -- >> yeah, boykin. think they picked somebody up who gets cut? >> they're going to be looking. you've got to see eric rowe come along. i think they would like to keep it at home with these guys on the roster now, but they're going to be looking. if somebody is on the there they think can do the job, they're going to pick it up. >> you're going to analyze it every week. putting you on the spot again. we heard a bun. of different things.
9:33 am
how are we going to do? >> i think 11 and 5. i think they could do that. they could do better, but i think it's safe to say they could go 11 and 5, win the division, go to the playoffs and have a home game here and if they get it done, i think they could get it done. sam bradford, if he's healthy, they're going to have a potent offense. >> it's going to be a fun season. let us know what you think. you can leave your comments on our facebook page, tweet us, just make sure you use the hashtag #fox29weekend. just tell us what you think what would their record be. and while you're doing that, we will take a look at the weather. look at that. poconos, great day. people out enjoying themselves. that's bushkill falls. dave, you've been there? >> push kill? >> something. it's a water fall in the poconos that you can enjoy?
9:34 am
>> yes, i have been there. i have been there quite a bit there. beautiful, perfect weather. a little cool in the mornings but can't complain about the afternoon. that's the falls, a live picture from the airport. all showing things mostly clear just a beautiful shot this morning. the temperatures are into the 70s here. mid 70s and there at 75 degrees. so we are looking at the dew point 61. that wind is out of the east northeast at 10 miles an hour. as long as this number keeps dropping, it's a good thing. that's the humidity measure there and it's going into the 50s today so that's nice and comfortable. our temperatures not into the 09s. ultimate doppler all clear. there's no rain out there. no more storms on the radar. this live picture is as old city. we'll talk about the made in america. this is from 12:00 p.m. to midnight each day both saturday and sunday, look at our temperatures 789 -- 79 to 80 and dropping to 60 at night.
9:35 am
no 90s and not all that cool and no rain. so a beautiful weekend here. labor day is just as good. we'll look at that in the 7-day forecast. we'll have that coming up. >> a sand sculpture competition on the beaches in southern california but this one has a theme and that theme is the olympics. that being said, can you tell who the sand sculpture that you're looking at right now is supposed to represent? the transformation expressed in sand is coming up. plus the controversy on a california beach. the problem? a lack of privacy. the reason so many people are up in arms about these new beach bathrooms. we've got the story when we come back. fox 29 weekend.
9:38 am
a little under the boardwalk while we look at some of the messages people are sending to us. tony says this team will do special things as long as they remain healthy. this could be the greatest show on turf part stwo -- two. and bacon and cheese in wildwood or piston diner. and andrew's best summer moment spending time with these crazy
9:39 am
guys in the bunk. andrew was at camp sending us messages while at camp. we appreciate that. you guys can keep the comments coming in. all right. a little bit of a controversy brewing. it's an upgrade that many say actually feels like a downgrade. they say they don't want to play peek-a-boo while doing their business. officials spent more than 500,000 on a spanish motif bathroom on the beach. however beach goers are complaining the restroom lacks privacy. the city asked for authorization to allow screening walls to solve the issue at $20 each wall. but council doesn't want to spend the money. and that's leading to confrontations. >> nobody changes at the beach. who changes at the beach? >> they were going to change at the beach. >> if you do, you put a towel
9:40 am
around yourself. >> when you're visiting, the hotel we're staying at is at costa mesa. we have to change here if we want to go walk around. >> people wanting more privacy can just enter a toilet stall. who wants to change in a toilet stall and how can you change with a towel around yourself? >> that was either the mirror one of the council people lecturing people wrap a towel around yourself while you're change zblg why would you have a changing room that people can see through? >> so we're both on board? >> you ready to pony up the 20 bucks? i'll lend you the 20 bucks to put the wall up. that brings us to the subject of today's instant poll. the council members said that no one changes at the beach anymore. we want to know, do you change
9:41 am
at the beach. you can vote on fox29.com by clicking the instant reaction leak -- link, or you can tweet your answer. >> change diapers at the beach. i'll be doing that. >> you have a changing room. you're supposed to be able to have privacy in the changing room, genius, as howard would say. it's the battle of the century. a puppy versus a minion. the staredown is on. the video is hilarious. what happens when the dog took on this boy.
9:44 am
9:45 am
the sand sculpting competition includes a theme. the artists say they love what they do. >> art tends to separate itself behind the velvet rope in a museum. sand sculpture is for the public and they feel a part of it because they've done it. you can engage the artist. >> one of the skup tours featured a former olympian caitlyn jenner. at 9:45, we're taking a look at what's trending this morning. a little puppy is fighting a little above his weight class in a video going viral. the little guy goes by the name
9:46 am
arny doodle. the video shows the puppy playing with an inflatable minion punching bag. but the minion gets the most of the puppy and knocks him out cold. as you can see don't mess around with a minion. that tree branch just fluttering in the breeze, not as windy as yesterday, but that wind brought in cooler, drier air. was the focus of storms yesterday. they actually moved from east to west. normally you see these storms approaching from the west the opposite way yesterday. that's why you call this a back door cold front.
9:47 am
gave us a nice comfortable day today. these temperatures now are into the 70s. 72 in allentown, pottstown just above 70 in reading. philadelphia is 75 as well as wilmington. mid 70s to the south. where are we headed today? we'll climb into the upper 70s and just touch 80 degrees. barely above 80. no 90s like yesterday. this will be about 10 degrees cooler. 93 tied a record yesterday, not the case today thanks to that cooler breeze. nice and comfortable along the shore points here. 73 in atlantic city. that's that cooler breeze coming in from the east. that cooler air makes it all the way to philadelphia. so nice and comfortable today. no more showers. these clouds around will just start to break up later. then we're mostly clear this evening. these clouds will push a little farther west. that means as soon as the sun goes down, it cools off quickly back down into the 60s tonight. holiday weekend forecast
9:48 am
barbecuing, it's international bacon day. 83, 86, 89. climbing a few degrees each day, trying to get up to 90 degrees. it is in the 7-day forecast. remember today is temple penn state here. 83 degrees, close to 90 with that heat returning for labor day. hot weather on tuesday. sunshine, hot, a low of 70, a high of 90. hot and humid on wednesday with showers and thunderstorms but after that it cools off just a bit back down into the upper 80s. we do have showers and storms each day once we get to wednesday. that's not a bad thing. we are certainly dry so we could take this rain as it comes in. we do need the rain now. we're not getting it for the long weekend but it is in the 7-day forecast. so enjoy it. that humidity is low, the breeze is light. one thing just to watch is if you're down the shore, a lot of people are, there's a high risk
9:49 am
of rip currents. be aware of that if you want to step out in the ocean. bill? >> thanks, dave. we've been telling you all day, tens of thousands of people are expected to gather on the parkway today and tomorrow for the made in america concert series. the city of philadelphia is proud to host the event but is it really worth it and what's the city getting out of all this. joining us now to talk more about this of course solomon jones morning host. >> i'm great hope you are as well. so what do you think? are you excited about this? is it good for the city? what's your take? >> it's great. beyonce is here. everybody knows it's going to be booty-licious. the reality is the city makes no money from this event. the proceeds that the promotors donate go to the united way which runs its own educational and social service programs. that's wonderful. but in a city where over a
9:50 am
quarter of the people live in poverty, the fact that the city gets no money for this concert is very troubling. >> it's interesting because a lot of social media comments come in, people are excited in general about the concert, but social media not so much. francis wrote this is a scam. overpriced tickets to see overrated artists to stand around on the parkway, pay too much for everything. go to a real festival. solomon, i see stuff like that and i hear what you're saying, but are we just contributing to our grumpy philadelphia reputation? >> the reality is this is a great thing for the city. don't get me wrong. it promotes the city on a national and international scale. the hotels make a little bit of money, we get a little bit of tax revenue. all of that is great, my problem is that the promotors leave with bags full of money and the city gets nothing. with our educational system in the state that it's in with our economy in the state that it's in, with poverty in the city
9:51 am
being the most of any large city in america, the city should have made a little bit of a better deal for the people. i think that it's great from a promotional standpoint but we need a better deal for the people. >> we should get hotel rooms or hotel taxes. parking, it doesn't sound like you're angry with the event. it sounds like you're angry with the elected officials who didn't cut a better deal for everybody involved. >> we need to get a better deal for the city of philadelphia. we do a lot of things that are promotional. the city of philadelphia is a major city. american history is rooted in philadelphia. it's what drives a lot of our tourism. but the fact that we're only getting reimbursed for police, we're only getting reimbursed for emergency medical services and other city services is not enough. i mean, we need to stop giving away the store and we need to start acting like who we are. philadelphia is a major city, we need to act like it and make
9:52 am
sure we get paid when things like this happen. >> always a pleasure to have you here. i don't want to negadelphia. let us know what you think, excited about made in america or should the city have made a better deal? we'll get back to some of those comments after we see what jen fred has this week in momalogue. >> hey, everybody. some super special guest stars. we've been hanging out with chef brian duffy trying out fancy brek fasts but these ladies are going to tell us what they hate that moms put in their lunch? too much meat on my sand wish.
9:53 am
>> apple sauce and an apple. >> it's the same thing and you don't want both. >> i don't like when my mom puts yogurt raisins. >> why not? >> i don't like them. >> anything else you don't like that your mom puts in your lunch? >> i like bologna sandwiches and sometimes she'll give me ham sandwiches. >> anything you like that your mom does? >> i like baby bells sometimes she'll put those. >> cheese? >> yeah. >> thanks for making me lunch. >> thank you. listen, i'm taking your snap chats away. yeah, i'm married. does it matter? you'd do that for me? really? yeah i'd like that.
