>> ♪ >> this is a fox 29 news update. >> i'm iain page from fox 29 with your convention center christmas eve news update. chief meteorologist scott williams tracking the warm were the holiday. >> record breaking and warm indeed. take a look at the new record set for the 2015 christmas eve. the warmest christmas eve in the delaware valley on record. trenton topped out at 72 degrees. it was very warm and muggy in philadelphia at 71. 71 in wilmington as well as allentown and reading. certainly no snow but folks were still out and about and enjoying it trying to skate on the ice rink although it was melting across much of the area. take a look at some video shot earlier on christmas eve at dillworth plaza there. you can see the ice rink there. kiddos having a good time waiting for santa claus and, yes, it was pretty warm with those high temperatures in the low 70's. let's talk a little bit about

the pattern. we're talking about that jet stream well to the north so by christmas day, we could be talking about near record temperatures approaching 70 degrees again. ultimate doppler trying to show a double showers moving into central southern sections of delaware maybe even an overnight rumble of thunder but the storm system that brought us the rainfall a couple days ago that's going to stall to our south and then lift back toward our area for christmas day. so, we're not out of the woods just yet as far as those showers so don't put away the rain gear just yet either. that holiday forecast for christmas day itself, look at the temperatures. 9:00 a.m., 63 degrees. we'll be tracking some patchy fog so it is going to be kind of a partly sunny to mostly cloudy day. upper 60's, 68 degrees in the afternoon. that would tie the record for christmas day which, by the way, is 68 degrees set back in 1964. and then take a look at 5 o'clock. we're introducing the threat for some evening showers across the area but

temperatures still pretty mild at 64 degrees. so, we'll take you hour by hour once again. it looks like most of the day a break from the rain but by the evening, we're watching some of the thicker clouds and showers move up from the south so that's why don't put away the umbrellas and rain gear just yet. then saturday we're talking mostly cloudy skies and then a better chance for some showers moving in from the west. so, it stays kind of mild but it is going to be unsettled. so overnight it's mild, patchy fog, mid to upper 50's. santa moving through the delaware valley as we speak and take a look at the christmas forecast. recapping things, and are 60's just unheard of iain for this time of year. that seven-day forecast shows that 57 degrees for the high temperature on saturday kicking off kwanzaa. once again there could be a shower chance at the linc. back to you ian. >> that will do it for us on
