and if you use the chestnut hill west line, make sure you're ready, it kicks in a new time tabl on monday morning. enjoy the rest of the day. i'll see you right back here tomorrow morning on "good day weekend." we're staying on top of the developing story right now. a philadelphia police officer was ambushed in the middle of thursday evening. this is a video of the attack. so chilling to watch. 13 shots fired at point-blank range. that oofser lucky to be alive and we're learning a lot of new information about his condition and also the suspect who is accused of shooting him. first of all, how is that officer doing? >> reporter: good morning, karen. we are hearing that the officer remains in critical but stable condition here and police did release chilling surveillance of the shooting. he was ambushed by 30-year-old

edward archer. investigators say archer was out to assassinate the officer. he's caught on camera firing 13 shots at point-blank range. of those 13 shots amazingly only three struck the officer. bullets hit his left arm another remarkable detail in the video you can see archer starts to run away but despite heavy bleeding, officer hartnet got out of his car, fired and hit the suspect in the behind all while calling for help. >> the bravery he demonstrated was absolutely remarkable. his will to live undoubtedly saved his life. >> his family will get everything he needs from our police department, our city, in an effort to recover and to be whole again. >> reporter: and here's video of police raiding archer's home in west philadelphia. investigators say archer carried out the shooting in the name of

islam and police also tell us that the gun that he used was actually a gun stolen from a philadelphia police officer two years ago. how he got that gun is still not clear. >> thank you so much. and of course the tributes to the officer are pouring in all over social media including this one from a fellow philadelphia police officer. he says in part, quote. you did great last night. you made the 18th district and the entire department proud of you. you are a hero. january 7th will forever be your alive day. rest up. and that post was shared more than 50,000 times. >> meanwhile we've got new information this morning from the family of he had wartd archer. his brother tells fox 29 archer is not mentally ill and he may have had a mixed motive for the attempted assassination of the officer. the family says he may have snapped over what his brother characterizes as mistreatment of

at 9:00 fraternal order of police president will join us. what he has to say about the ongoing investigation and officer jesse hartnet. >> there was a shooting in west philadelphia that has killed one person. it all happened about 1:45 this morning. police say a 20-year-old man was shot several times. he was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. investigators say they found drugs at the scene. no arrests so far. and there's a security guard in the hospital in critical condition following a shooting at a north philadelphia sports bar. this one happened a little after midnight. police say that security guard was shot four times and they're looking for the person responsible. >> a former high-ranking pennsylvania state police officer who helped lead a massive man hunt has been

demoted. he became a familiar face in 2014 as he conducted regular briefings during the 48 day man hunt. he has been demoted to major and will head up the bureau of gaming enforcement. the reasons why he was demoted, they remain unclear. it's 8:09. we now know when actor and comedian bill cosby will head back to a montgomery county courtroom. his preliminary hearing has been postponed until next month. he was scheduled to appear in court next week but his attorneys asked for more time to prepare. cosby says the encounter with a former temple university employee was consensual and he calls his accuser a liar. >> a top adviser to that very em battled kathleen kane says she

the spokesperson for the muslim community. good morning sir. >> good morning, how are you. >> i'm doing well. we hear from the mayor, you hear passionate comments from a lot of people. we want to hear from you. is there a comment kind of representing the islamic community when something like this happens? >> i think the mayor hit the nail on the head this has nothing to do with islam. this has nothing to do with being a muslim. what i want to talk about is going beyond the mere done dem nation because it should be clear. perfectly clear that muslims condemn this kind of terrorism, they condemn violence. islam is a religion dedicated to the service of humanity. what my community has launched is a campaign called the true islam campaign. this is a nationwide effort to unite muslims and non-muslims against extremist ideology. you can read the 11 points to

find what true islam is. freedom of speech, separation of mosque and state, equality of men and women, condemnation of violent jihad. you can go there and see how christians, muslims, jews are coming together on these fundamental principles that we can all agree upon. >> i like that that he is happening. i hope that message spreads. do you think that message has been strong enough when these types of things happen from the islamic community and society in general that this unequivocally does not represent islam? >> i think we can always continue to have that dialogue. there's no doubt about that. i don't think we will get to a place to say we don't need dialogue. what's critical is strong leadership. that we cannot fear one another. we cannot use these horrible incidences as a opportunity to demonize one another. this is where we must come together even stronger.

snow. it does not look like 3 inches though and certainly not in the next 24-48 hours. these temperatures are climbing into the 40s now. just some light rain out there, a few showers in chester county off through montgomery county and working its way north but it's this heavy rain that will be arriving tonight. here it comes, the heavy rain develops by 4:00 in the morning and that's what you'll wake up to tomorrow. it's all rain because it's warm but it does get cold. those numbers are in the 7-day forecast. i'll have that coming up a little bit later. >> let's take a look at some medical news right now. the medicine government decided to update the requirements of what they think is healthy. >> see we decided to look into it. our lauren john ton and our own dr. mike are breaking it down what you can and what you can eat. >> fyi the fda is setting new guidelines every five years. this is the year. >> and there's a lot of controversy about it and there's some new things. let's get right to it. we all know nothing new here.

they recommend we increase the amount of fruits and vegetables. we don't do enough of it. >> that's easy. >> what's really new though is they want us to limit the amount of sugar to 10% of our calories. so let's say, lauren, you are on a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet. 10% of that is 200 calorie. what's in there? >> 240. >> over the limit. so no way jose. you've got to be careful with that. salt, now they're recommending no more than 2300 milligrams a day if you're over the age of 14. >> can we do that? >> no way. >> not even close. we have pizzas and all kinds of things they're full of salt. got to watch that. the other guideline says hey, you need to limit your saturated fat intake to 10% of your total calories. you've got to watch that. one of the other things that's very controversial is the fact they really didn't talk about

festival in this country. this is a big deal. photo journalist bill rohrer introduced us introduced us to what i would say is a creative genius. >> reporter: for film maker bill the love of film making started at an early age. >> at about 5 i got a vhs copy of jurassic park and that blew my mind. everything about it, the music, the photography and how it was all put together and how it made you feel a sense of wonder. >> you are look at a chunk of the feature right now. >> reporter: it's bill's first feature script. >> reporter: to get some of his script on film, he decided to lift the film from his feature script and make it a short film called "catching up." it's about a physically disabled man who falls in love with a nondisabled woman and lacking confidence, he turns to his best

gets cold. today 54 could be a little warmer especially south and east of the city. 62 degrees tomorrow but there's rain coming down then. that cold wind comes back. we're dropping into the upper 30s. 32 degrees. that is the area to watch this morning. some light rain, maybe a little mist could be a little slippery. you get that glaze of ice. winter weather advisory in effect for the next 12 minutes there in monroe county. here's light rain coming down. just a few light showers around chester county, all of this is sliding to the east which is very, very light. just a little misting here coming down. but it's what's coming overnight tonight that is the big concern. not much now, but to this will happen overnight and you'll wake up to a lot of rain tomorrow morning. here's this heavy rain coming in about 7:00 in the morning. it could be an inch of rain. it will be heavy but all rain because the temperature is actually climbing before this rain gets here.

incredibly hartnet made that call despite heavy bleeding. even after he was shot he was able to open fire on suspect edward archer and hit him in the behind as he was running away. police say archer ambushed the officer as he was sitting in his cruiser. archer fired 13 shots at point-blank range. three bullets hit hartnet in his left arm. once archer was in custody he explained his motive. >> he stated that he pledges his allegiance to islamic state, he follows allah and that is the reason he was called upon to do this. >> reporter: we have some video of philadelphia police raiding archer's home in west philadelphia.

the suspect has a criminal past. he's been charged with gun violations and making terroristic threats and documents show he was actually due to be in court next week on fraud and forgery charges. karen? >> i'll take it from there. meanwhile new information this morning from the family of suspected cop shooter edward archer. his brother telling fox 29 archer is not mentally ill and he may have had a mixed motive for the attempted assassination of officer hartnet. the family says he may have snapped over what his brother characterizes as mistreatment of black men by the police as well as that of muslims by society as a whole. his family says that archer had traveled to mecca in the past and was a devout muslim. they say he was not tied to isis despite statements he allegedly made to police. meanwhile worshippers at the mosque say his actions do not

reflect their beliefs. >> muslims, we despise of that and we all stand together on peace. if you are in peace, we're on your side. >> archer's family says police interviewed his mother for at least four hours yesterday. >> and as jennifer mentioned, the police officer remains in the hospital right now. joining us live this morning, a person that certainly went over their fraternal order of police president. how is he doing now have you spoken with him? >> last night i spoke with him. he was awake, he's alert. very positive. lucky to be alive, surrounded by coworkers, family, girlfriend. his spirits are good. >> he's really a hero. i thought it was interesting he got into serving our country with the coast guard right after 9/11. what do you know about his history? >> it's unfortunate you get to know somebody through tragedies like this. from all accounts he was a great cop, a great person. he was an asset to the city and

he's very lucky to be alive today after this assassination attempt. >> absolutely. 33 years old and grew up there in east landsdown. >> real positive guy. >> what came to mind when i watched this incident there was something that happened in new york, i know you're going to know this case, it was 2014 were there were two officers that were killed. the same kind of situation in that they were in a cruiser and they were shot. what do you think -- will there be measures taken now to better protect our officers? what can we do? >> i hope so. it seems like when a tragedy like this happens everybody's focus is on the tragedy and when the cameras go away and it dies down, everybody forgets about it. we need more sentencing guidelines. police should be included in hate crimes, officer hartnet was shot at and shot not only because -- not because he was

white, not because he was black, not -- it was because he was in uniform. he was wearing a badge and he was in a philadelphia police car. and that's simple as that. he was targeted. and this was not a random attempt. so we need to draw the light on enhancing the sentencing for people that are doing these crimes, for terrorists like this that are doing this. also to look at some of the sentencing and parole board decisions. if you're sentenced to five years, you should probably do the whole five. not three, not four, not two. stay in the whole time. we need to keep focusing on this. there's been a number of police officers shot and killed over the last eight years. we have to focus on that also. >> is there everything that you're telling your members in terms of safety that they can be doing to better take precautions? >> commissioner ross put up two-man cars. be careful, be alert.

watch yourself and make sure that you're on target. you never know what's going to happen and like this was a targeted attack. it was an attempted assassination and we're lucky that we are not planning a funeral today. >> that is the truth. all right. thank you so much. we appreciate your time. >> thank you. >> and we'll continue to pray for officer hartnet. let's take a look at some of the other top stories that we're following for you this morning. a shooting in west philadelphia leaves one person dead. this happened around 1:45 this morning around the 800 block of north 49th street. police say a 20-year-old man was shot several times. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. investigators say they found drugs at the scene but so far no arrests. >> there's a security guard who's in the hospital right now in critical condition following a shooting. this one happened up in north philadelphia in a sports bar there a little after midnight at xanadu. police say the security guard

was shot four times and they are searching for the person responsible. also a very tense night for people in north hampton county. >> the robbery happened at a family dollar store in easton just after 9 pment. minutes later police were searching the area and questioning about .25 mile away. people were urged to stay indoors. police were able to track down the suspects this morning and both are in custody. >> there was a vigil in north philadelphia to remember two people who were killed in a deadly fire. this was the scene last evening as so many friends and family and neighbors gathered to remember a pregnant mother. she was due in just a number of weeks, and her two-year-old son that she had gone back in to rescue. it is such a tragedy. six other people were able to escape. there were no smoke detectors in the home and the family was using space heaters but not in a

drafts don't come in to your living space. >> my regular, my central air compress sor? >> yes. it's about $20. it's silver, it straps on and it covers it all season long. >> what are these funny things? >> these are awesome. you said you live in an older home. stone homes in the city. these are outlet ins lators. they fit behind your switch plates and they keep drafts and bugs from coming into the house. they're fantastic. they come precut. exterior walls. they come in a kit that has a mix of different styles and shapes. >> i love it. >> and it's under like 6 bucks. >> windows. a lot of us have drafty windows. what can we do to keem some of the drafts out? >> weather seal is important. you want to put weather seal at the top of the sash if you have a double hung and you want to

put it at the bottom of all of your windows. it has a sticky adhesive back, you put that on, tear it and peel this off. the other thing that is important is to make sure that you're keeping your pipes warm over the winter. because people have freezing pipes. it happens all the time and it's very expensive. there are precut, preslit little pipe covers that you just wrap around, keeps your cold water lines from freezing and your hot water warmer and there's little t's and elbows for all your corners. easy project. on the outside of your house, you know that hose outside the house, you can put this little cover on it, this little dome. you pook this on to the -- hook this on to the faucet head and draw string it to the side of the house and this hits the house and it keeps the snow and ice from freezing that hose bed and having it burst in the middle of the winter where
