tv Good Day Philadelphia Weekend FOX January 23, 2016 6:00am-8:01am EST
6:00 am
from the fox 29 studios, this is good day philadelphia. it is straight up 6:00. they said it is going to be bad and let me tell you, folks, it's bad. this is a bad blizzard. the blizzard of 2016. that's a shot of market street just outside of our tv studio and again we're the only tv station in the philadelphia area that has a snow global, right. we're right here on the street right in the thick of it, folks. you want to take a look at trenton? >> yeah, they're getting pounded. new jersey is also under a state of emergency. it's kind of hard to see. it shows how much snow is going on out there. governor chris christie returned from campaigning from new hampshire. he changed his mind. the main problem is the wind. look at all the cameras okaying back and forth.
6:01 am
that is philadelphia international airport. nothing going on, don't go there. no flights today. please send us your snow pics and use the # fox 29 snow. > look at all the pics that came in at about 7:00 last night when it started on come down. i mean the drifts are huge already. look at all these pictures. really it's also the wind. when we were walking in, it was like it was smacking you right in the face and it was hard to see because there was so much going on. >> i believe my skin is better because i have determine bracing now. how many inches so far? >> it looks like 8 or 9 already. is that kathy orr. >> i haven't laughed this hard as 6:00 in the morning. a lot of women laugh at me overnight. he's used to it catty. we're so happy you're with us this morning.
6:02 am
> i've been looking a the this for the past couple of hours and we're watching this a little bit of a dry spot working in. you can see in the eastern part of maryland and heading into delaware. a little bit of a mix heading to the shore that will limit the snow accumulations for the next couple of hours. as the storm passes by you'll get the cold air on the back side everything will be changing into snow even down the shore. this will continue to lift toward the north and toward the west and it's a little bit of a dry slot will be ending. it will be filling in within the next couple of hours. visibility is the huge story. when you look at these numbers you'll know what i mean. we all walked ear from a hotel we were staying out and you could feel the snow, as mike said, giving you a determine abrasion on your face. look at the poconos, not showing as hard there. a quarter mile visibility in millville. if you have these persistent low
6:03 am
visibilities for three hours or more that is considered blizzard conditions. i think it's safe to say we will have them through the morning. here's our storm system, the classic noreaster, the major storm, whatever you want to call it, is going to be pass by. north westerly as the storm exits. thinks where we're seeing the warmer air beginning to build in. so the heavier when the snow will be in south jersey and delaware through the morning. >> that is the biggest low pressure l i've ever seen. >> it is. > thank you for your interjection. >> it's huge. > that's never happened to me before. >> on the back side of this we'll be drying out. sunday will actually be a sunny day. here's a look at the current wind gusts. do you have anything to say about this. >> it's pretty. > 35-mile an hour gusts right now and pottstown everything out of the northeast because the storm is still to the south of us. gusting to 41 miles an hour in millville. that is a tropical storm
6:04 am
straight gust. due i beach, delaware 60 miles an hour, lewis delaware, 56. cape may gusting to 5 #. port norris gusting to 51. there is a chance we could have winds gusting to hurricane strength during this storm. of course, high tied about an hour away downç the shore. so there are huge concerns of coastal flooding. sue b as more on the snow accumulation. some of them impressive. it's always a challenge to measure snow when it's windy like this but we do have some of these so far measurements to show you. so far, here we go, in upper bar biwe have nine inches of snow. new castle, delaware 8.3 inches, aston, 8 inches, mount holly, new jersey, the actual mount holly, not the airport is 7 and a half and norristown, 7.6. these are preliminary measurement of snowfall. it's going to get worse.
6:05 am
our blizzard warning continues throughout the area through early sunday morning. a winter weather advisory storm morning to the south of us and to the north of us. we may be raising some totals. we'll talk about that as the morning goes on. you can see it in all the cameras, white out conditions because of the winds that are gusting 35 to maybe 65-mile an hour before the morning is even through and that means dangerous travel. visibility of a quarter of a mile or less and the possibility is there -- probability for some, of power outages, through 2:00 this afternoon i think is when we're going to be experiencing the brunt of the storm, now through 2:00 p.m. with maybe a lull here and there. wind gusts 35 to 55 miles an hour in land. one snowfall rate one to three inches per hour and don't be surprised if you hear some thunder, thunder snow is definitely a possibility. the futurecast has this dry slot as kathy just showed you. a little dry slot here and
6:06 am
there, but don't think it's over if you see the snow cease for a few minutes. here are our snowfall estimates and we're still going in philadelphia with 18 to 24 inches. but we've enlarged that polygon there to maybe include a little bit more of the northern and western suburbs. we think their snowfall may be a little bit hire. > what did you call it. >> a polygon. > back to geometry. >> poly took off. she's gone. she's in florida right now. > she knew the blizzard was coming. >> by the way, we did not call each other about the colors. > we walked in and mike goes, oh, man. >> look at you. > he hates matching. >> why don't we just wear mickey mouse t-shirts and walk around. >> it means we spent too much time together. > aaron in the control room, good producer, he has put together the time lapse. for about the time the snow started, about 7:00, we got a
6:07 am
time lapse all night long. we got 8 or 9 inches overnight and the drifting is amazing around the city. the wind is so high and that's because it's been pretty consistent since 7:00. about an inch an hour, something like that. > let's get to bill because he is in south philadelphia. >> bill anderson, is this your first weather coverage ever here at fox? >> this is, in fact, my first weather coverage, however, and i'm having a blast. i'm having a ball plage in the snow. mike, you talked about the fact that you guys have a snow globe there in the studio, i'm living in it. i'm at ninth and washington, the italian market. sue was saying that it's tough to figure out the totals, so i can tell you, based on this, i'm about ankle deep. i'm 6 feet tall, 6, 1, so it is coming down. it's accumulating. we got a chance to make our way over here from the art museum through center city down broad street and now into south philly.
6:08 am
we can tell you that the roads have been touched, but they're not clear. anybody who was thinking about getting out there, don't. thankfully, as you can see, up here, up washington avenue, it's early, but people have stayed in. you can see a mini market right up the road, nobody has gone in yet. only people out is this poor soul right here who has decided to come out and is doing some things. right now, it is coming down. it's coming down heavy. maybe we could see why she's out. excuse me. good morning. >> morning. don't runaway. can we say good morning to you. she doesn't want to talk, but at any rate that's pretty much what's going. > she can't talk. she's like, no, no, no, leave me alone. > she's trying to get home. you can see it's drifting. it's coming down heavy. people stay off the roads. there's no reason to be out right now. >> it's saturday. > you got everything you need. we will have the coverage. mike, i'm going to try and do
6:09 am
some sledding. can that be part of the snow coverage? >> we'd love to see that. we're going to do some sledding. it's coming down heavy. stay in and watch fox 29. > you got it. >> thank you bill. you can tell it's his first snow day because he's having fun. >> he's all smiling. > aaron in the control room, fabulous producer, he also put this time lapse together. this is wilmington from the time it started 7:00 last night, actually they were about 6:00, because it's going from south to north. again, they have probably over 10 inches in wilmington. look at the camera, it's shaking. so it shows you that the wind is really blowing. jenny joist has done this before. she has chosen rodney square where you and i know very well in wilmington. >> hi, jenny. > i think that's her. it could be anybody. >>reporter: i agree, bill anderson having so much fun.
6:10 am
> she is not. >> i am not having fun. i am not having fun at all. we drove from philly would say about 6 inches have fallen in rodney square, but it is hard to tell. because of this wind we have been stumble across several snow drifts. i don't know if our viewers saw bob kelly's facebook page, but he have penndot a hard time. we did not run into a single plow truck. so conditions were pretty bad. we did see some vehicle also stranded. once we got into delaware we did see a couple of police cars trying to help some of these vehicle also out. delaware right now is in level 1 driving conditions, which is pretty just an advisory telling people not to drive if they don't have to be out there. a level 2 would demand everybody off the roads. so we're waiting to see if maybe it will go up to a level 2. we have a press conference with the governor at 9:00 this
6:11 am
morning. so we'll find out that information later this morning. right now here in rodney square, though, it is pretty quiet. we have a plow here behind us getting ready t take care of the sidewalks here. we've seen a couple of strag letters ous walking from afar, but all in all, everyone in this area seems to be home, which is where they should be, mike anal ex. > you're darn right. >> i'll bet that's where she is wishing she could be. > we'll check back in with you. >> north and west of you getting really pounded. that's reading, burkes county. it's every where. > this storm is huge. let's take a break and come right back.
6:18 am
they are driving and they are getting stuck on major highways creating a big problem for the plow drivers. this looks like a scene out of the shining, doesn't it? it does. > with jack nicholas. >> here's johnny. there's keeley. you know what i was going to do. i was watching all the other stations and the competitors and i had this elaborate plan to. they name all their vehicle also. i said i'll make fun of them and i'm going to name our van and i'll call our van the my len number fox cam. do you like that. >> we didn't hear. > i was going to call our van the millennium fox p can. you're a star wars fan. >> that's weird. > he looks like a star wars
6:19 am
character. since we're getting stuck or alex you'll get this. since we're getting stuck every time we try to stop i'm going to call it the millenniumful can. > so i'm not going to make fun of the other guys because they're probably not getting stuckment we're in one of these new advance that's a low rider. >> and apparently has bald tires. > that's jared. they're very frustrated. there's a new van, too. they put raising slicks on it. > it doesn't work in snow. you guys are so chipper this morning. >> i've got, i'm dealing with road rage here. > wow. we're 19 minutes into this show and the wheels have come off,
6:20 am
bald tires and all. > some would say, steve, why wouldn't you go down there like yesterday and get a hotel room and then you'd be there. >> that's true. > that cost money. >> no money. somebody has to pay for the hotel room. > and then we wouldn't have the story. >> i i'm just talking about you i wanted to. steve keeley walked two miles in snow overnight. >> in a blizzard. > nothing like i went through. i walked two blocks from my apartment and it was unbelievable. look at you. i'm on fourth street. i made it out of the apartment anyway. there's a two foot drift in front of my door and we couldn't get the door open. i never had that happen before. who did you have over, mike.
6:21 am
>> i look horrible. > we're in philadelphia, by the way. >> do you have a selfie stick? > no. > a you yelling for. >> i'm at fourth and chestnut. i'm starting to look like -- why don't we talk about the weather. oh, my goodness. i can't feel my face. i have a picture, too. i couldn't do this while i was walking because i had to concentrate. i'm sure. the drifts are pretty heavy already. i have to show my picture at the finished look when i got in. we'll take a break and show her face after the break.
6:24 am
we are taking a live look in allentown. if i didn't know any better, if i just woke up and didn't know what was happening, i would think this is fog. but, no, it's not fog, it's snow and it's a lot of snow blowing every where. now we are going to check in on karen hepp because karen, you're down the shore, too. >> i would just like to go on the record of saying the short straw, i have drawn the short draw in mays landing, cape may. this is a huge break-in the gusts of wind. 50-mile per hour gusts of wind. we have one of the plows working
6:25 am
at the big shopping center, at ike and the ac expressway. so many cars that were broken down. we saw tow trucks along the ac expressway. we were probably going i'm saying 15, 5 miles per hour. steve and i were making the same trek down and it was painfully, excruciatingly slow. you can see the gusts picking up again. i see a lot of reports they're saying this may be the worst banding portion of the snow right now that is happening and we're especially having the flood concern. we're trying to get down tot shore because we have the high tied coming up. you know it's right now, i think, at 6:00, mike anal he can. that's one of the issues as well. are we going to have some of the conditions. we're looking at homes that are getting a lot of water damage. this is great, right. >> you look great. >> you look very pretty. it's like you're trying to do morris code the way you're blinking. you have to do that because the way the wind is blowing, you
6:26 am
have to closure eyes. > get back in the van. >> ionia you were going to say that. > she's going to reach her hand through the tv and you can probably finish the sentence. >> and choke me. > we knew where that was going. >> it's almost too warm in the studio, isn't it. > i feel great. >> i feel, good. that's why i'm wearing a sweater because i'm normally cold. i'm here for the long hall. > look at her. >> she's all of cute. i do hate you guys, it's true. just remember. we need to turn it up, it's getting kind of warm. i'm ' sweating in this sweater. > 62-mile per hour winds in due i beach recorded overnight. my goodness. we'ring whying to take a very quick break. i'm going to get some more hot chocolate. are you going to share? >> i didn't get any hot chocolate. > i'll get you some.
6:29 am
6:30 am
> how many inches in philly do you think. >> we are thinking it's probably close to 7 or 8 at this point. we don't have an official measurement at the airport. > i wanted to talk about the wind and the future. >> because karen was talking about that. i didn't turn my involve down. that might be a text from my brother which is another story we'll tell later on. >> anyway, i don't want that to happen again. there we go. we have this look at wilmington, delaware and the plows are out there. you see the wind and you could see how the wind is, of course, hampering your vision. it's hard to see where you're going. i think the good idea with this storm is to try to keep on top of it and maybe once every couple of hours go out and try to shovel a little bit and take frequent breaks, but with the piling of snow that we expect, that's probably a good idea to try to stay on top it, not wait until everything is over. look at these future wind gusts,
6:31 am
by noon today we do not expect this wind to let up. we're predicting a 65-mile an hour wind gusts in delaware. in wildwood around the 60-mile an hour. even here in the city, 39, 40, 45-mile an hour wind gusts. this map is a prediction of where we see the most wind gust. it doesn't mean that power wouldn'ting out if you're not in the orange area. you have to prepare. hopefully you already did. we're talking about the coast california problems because karen did mention that. we're expecting wind gusts of 55 to 65 miles an hour, we just showed you the map to prove it. flooding and evacuations are not out of the question. some barrier i licensed have already been evacuated. the coastal problems are going to continue throughout the rest of the day. it's the monthing whying to let up especially with this wind that we're talking about. as we move along, it does look like we're going to have high
6:32 am
tied right around now in a lot of areas. here's the atlantic city high tied list. it is for 6:43 just at about high tied in atlantic city and then there's another one at 7:05 tonight and tomorrow morning at 7:26. in cape may where karen is right now, high tied is, here we go, 7:17 officially. so we're getting close to high tied in cape may and then two more later on tonight at 7:43, sunday at 8:00 a.m. one more we're going to show you again with these coastal problems. as weigh go through the rest of the day, the snow continuing to pile up. there may be a few times when it will stop for a little while, but it won't be over until very late tonight. mike. >> there he goes. some guy just came by. he's a private contractor. he's got a pickup truck. move back this way. ease going to come back into
6:33 am
frame. > is he packing up? >> he's a private guy with a pickup truck. now he's going the opposite way on market street but he's clearing our parking area. > that's really nice. very neighborly. do you see him now? >> that's for the donut delivery that we're expecting shortly. > you got him? >> there you go. go back look it looks like he's right at the corner. he's in our blind spot. there you go. there he is. thank you. hi. he had a gulf station on spring garden street there. that's so nice of them. he's cleaning our parking area for us. > thank you so much to the guys over there. that assurance that we'll get the donut delivery later on this morning. > good morning, everybody. 6. 33 on a snow stay, saturday. here's a live look at some of the cameras that you're dealing with if you really must go.
6:34 am
i came in malvern all the way to center city. stay where you are unless you have an absolute reason, real good reason and check in once and twice before you actually head on out there, stay where you are. here's a live look at the 42 freeway, an example of i95 snow covered. itself so much the 8 inches that we got, it's the wind that's blowing the snow and causing the drifting. here's a live look at 3:09 and 202. here's a look at the admiral wilson boulevard, the airport circle over in south jersey. treacherous conditions. penndot said they had this new program that's going to show you where you're going to find the plow trucks. i gave it a shot on my way in this morning. there was only one plow truck on the schuylkill expressway. they have gps on their trucks now. from king of precious all the way in and guess where that guy was. >> where, parked at that city avenue turnaround, three trucks just sitting there. meanwhile i'm dredging through 12-inch mess of blowing snow and i didn't expect it to be clean
6:35 am
and green, but at least have one travel lane on the -- one of the major roadways. the blue route had no snowplows this morning at 5:00. there was also another truck sitting on montgomery drive off on the shoulder. so again, the roads are dangerous. do not go out. there is no reason to go outç there. slow conditions on 202 and 42 #. septa, that's the only thing running today. the frankfurt and the broadway subway lines, are the only thing that's running today so far. mike anal ex back over to you. >> do you want to hear something stupid in. >> i want to try to go to new york today at 4:30 on amtrak. > why. >> there's a party. > can't miss a party. way to go. >> you talk about party people, that's jenny joist having a great time in wilmington. she sure is. how are you holding up.
6:36 am
>> i'm trying to smile for you. my face a little bit froze especially at attempt. i know sue was talking a little bit about the wind gusts and that is the hardest party think personally about the storm. the consistency is almost like sleet, like ice going across your face here. we have some guys out here. they're using snowplow. they're trying to clean h this. they're the only ones we've seen out here on the streets of wilmington. i checked my phone and i know it's about 23-degrees out. i want to tell you the true hero in the storm coverage, continue a, the photograph, she did not get warm in between. she was gathering footage and trying to get some video together. it's freezing cold. it's the winds that we have been talking about. it is nice to see the plow trucks out here, the work that they're doing on the streets of wilmington and also on the sidewalks. in our last hit i was standing in about six inches of snow.
6:37 am
it's also kind of hard to really understand how much snow has fallen because of the wind drifts that we have been describing as well. initially we were going to walk down there to that car. i thought the car was stranded, but it's actually in a parking spot. it seems that people did make the decision yesterday just to leave the cars parked or stay here overnight. we were outside of the dupont hotel wondering if many people scored a reservation there last night. mike, alex, i'm sure this is probably the picture that you've been seeing from all the reporters. i cannot imagine how steve keeley walked two miles in this. i was winded after a walk from our live truck just because it is so windy. it's almost over powering. > oh, my goodness. i got to tell you, i've been doing this a long time and i've known jenny joist a long time. this is the most miserable i've ever seen her. you know what i mean? >> first of all, i'm sorry.
6:38 am
i don't mean to look miserable. it's accurate. you're showing what you're feeling out there. >> it's not so much the picture, it's the sound. that's our problem, the wind, 50, 60-mile an hour gusts. it's dangerous out there. we're having fun as we always do here at fox, but it's dangerous. > what's that say? >> we're talking about the pics. we showed you walking into work. this is mean last night. > oh, no. this is me last night about to walk in. hold on this for aic s. this is when it first started to snow and i was excited. let me put on my hat. and then i started to realize this wind is starting to many a p up. this is me this morning, we can't do makeup. we're going to have walk in. there's icicles and things on my eyelashes. i'm turning red. the wind is so high and the particles of snow are hitting you right in your eyeballs, you

6:42 am
# # to cottman. > bob kelly slide in next to me. >> i love you. > let's get jean on the phone. our first visit in 2016. welcome to good day philadelphia. thank you very much. bob, how are you. >> good, buddy, how are you doing? > alex is here as well. >> yesterday on the air we put your graphic up by you jean. do you want to go by you jean orogen. >> i go biogen, but i answer to either. > so bob kelly has a question for you. jean, on my way in, where r very frustrating that we had 12 inches of snow at times and the couple of plow trucks that i saw were all parked off to the side. i know the guys got to take a break, but you would think that the schuylkill would at least have a lane cleared since it's a major road into philadelphia. why would you hit gene with this
6:43 am
at 6:42. >> because you asked me to. bob, i could tell you hour 450 trucks are out on the highway. one or two may have pulled off to the side, maybe a mechanical issue. it's something i would have to look into it. i can't answer that right at this very moment, it's something that i could look. my initial thought would be either mechanical or one of the problems the drivers are having with the visibility and with the blowing snow and possibly had to clear the windshield. > i get it. it's just frustrating. i'm just telling you i'm frustrated. i'm one of the guys and that's the feedback we get here at fox on both our e-mails and facebook and twitter. nowadays with social media it's instant. i went to the website where you can now track the plows. >> because they have gps on the plows. >> it verified there was only like one truck on the schuylkill. my first thought is the emergency personnel.
6:44 am
hospitals have to keep going so those folks have to get out there. i don't expect the secondary roads probably to be plowed yet. what is the status, then, of that website that we can go to? is that working properly. >> yes, it is. it is working properly and it's called the automated vehicle location system. it's a pilot program where the majority of the equipment is in our contractor trucks. 160 contractor trucks and about 35 to 40 state vehicle also. so that will show on expressways or interest states. one thing i noticed, in areas where maybe the plows had gone through earlier last night or maybe right at the first of the storm, they plowed almost the no up against what would be the off ramp. so god forbid i had to get off at city avenue or at gulf millions that's going to be difficult for folks to kind of push through that big pile of snow.
6:45 am
>> bob, do you have anything positive to say. >> we're going to take your thoughts into concern. on the expressway we need to clear the travel lanes. we do have trucks coming from behind who handle the ramps. the initial priority is the initial travel lanes. when you get snow falling at the rate that it's falling, it's hard to keep everything clear at one time. you'll have trucks continue down the main lane. then you have trucks from behind that veer down the ramp, go to the off ramp and then get back on the on ramp and then the expressway. when you get the first several hours of the storm you have to push the snow somewhere. it's going to the side. eventually in certain areas it will be in front of a ramp. > mike has a question. go ahead. >> all these years i've always had the same question. is there a point whereç it's coming down so fast that you don't bother to plow and you kind of wait until it stops? >> no. you can't really stop because it's going to accumulate even higher. it's a continuous piling up.
6:46 am
it's obvious that at a certain point the trucks have to refuel, go back into the yard to resalt. at this point in time it's a matter of a plow years. we are till salting. but we have cutback on the amount of salt we're putting down on the ground because when you're getting an inch or two in an hour, it's going to be covered with snow. this is as challenging a storm as we expected. the winds and the blowing snow is really, making the visibility treatmently poor and that's why we really encourage, urge motorists to stay home if at all possible. don't go out on the the roadway. > what's the website where people can check on all the plows. >> www511pa.com. > and you'll pick the region and you go to that. it will be a box for plow checks.
6:47 am
> there's nowhere to go. >> thank you so much, we appreciate it. gene from penndot. > last night at one point they had more than 700 plows around the interest states and roadways. according to the twitter account around nine hours ago. >> if a plow goes by on fourth and market i'll go out and hug them. i haven't seen one yet. there's a dude standing in the mid of the intersection. > in the middle. >> he's the traffic director at the corner of fourth and market. > he's waiving back. >> how are you doing dude. maybe you should ask him what he's doing. we're going to take a quick break and we'll be right back. remarkable things are happening at your local acme.

> oh, my go in. we have a guy who has come to watch the show here on fox. he ' standing in the middle of the intersection at fourth and market. >> check out the boots. those are shopping bags, undoubtedly. one way to do it. he's been kind of dancing out there. >> they're wip radio bags. >> maybe i'm wrong. > maybe that's angelo contact alexandria did i. >> it could be howards skin. it looks like the wip. > it looks like he's having fun. >> maybe they're doing something. > should i go out and see if he wants a cup of coffee. >> i would not get near him. > maybe he's directing traffic.
6:51 am
should we check on mr. cranky. by the way, that's trenton. another time lapse. look how covered it is. time lapse from 7 last night until about an hour ago. if they could only see what mike is doing behind the scenes here. we should check on our colleague, mr. crank i pants, steve keeley. why are you now, steve. >> we're making progress as we switch the camera off. you can see where we are, we are approaching the egg harbor toll plaza. maybe you can see in our headlights that the roadest of hammonton is not plowed. two cars slid off the road. we wished we could have stopped to help them but if we stopped we would have been stuck so we notified the state police. we don't know how many people were in the car but they weren't getting out on their own that, ' for sure. this is why we always tell people prepare to be stuck. have planing et cetera in our

car, fill your tank and prepare to live in your car if you have to in an emergency situation. that's why we do this every time before a storm hits to tell you have your stuff in your trunk. it's essential, it could be the difference between living and dying p. we hope people get help. why this road isn't plowed we don't know. bob kelly also talked about other roads. but we can tell you the good sinus that not a lot of people are driving on the atlantic city expressway like we saw on route 42. that is the positive part of that. as we approach the toll plaza you can see only emergency vehicle also going through the toll plaza. normally on a weekend, even this time of day, saturday morning, people leaving going down for the weekend this would be a mob scene at this toll plaza. believe it or not we always see bad things happening in bad weather. brigantine has a fire right on brigantine boulevard right now, so the fire department busy in a blizzard. the bay on one side, the ocean on the other side. a fire in brigantine on top of

everything else. thank you so much. thanks for keeping us update odd that. we are taking a look at old city. we said we were waiting for some snowplows. three coming in order. mike ran outside because that's what he said he was going to do. we're going to take a quick break. we are seeing snowplows in old city.
6:56 am
> welcome back, on fox 29 kathy orr, ultimate doppler you can see a a little bit of a dry slot working its way in. it's makingç its way into philadelphia. this is temporary. we are seeing a little bit of an improvement. if you look outside, look at old city philadelphia a lot of blowing going on market street. the roads snow covered. the vehicle also are few and far between. 25-degrees, wind out of the northeast sustained to 25 miles an hour are gusting to 35 miles an hour. it feels like it is only 9. visibility improved because of the dryer air working in. still snowing not as heavily. the heavy snow from reading into the allentown area. you can see in trenton visibility improved where the air is dryer, but once again the snow is going to come back and it will be heavier at times and into the afternoon. right now you can see plaintiff i snow with temperatures in the 20s. packed powder as you head toward the poconos.
6:57 am
in millville 32-degrees. this is where you're getting your heavy when the snow right now and those temperatures will stay mild through the morning. winds gusting to 35. million wilmington gusting to 4 # mile an hour. these are strong tropical storm force gusts. down the shore we could be seeing winds gusting to 65, maybe even 70 miles an hour at times. so please be aware of that. wind chills in the single l numbers in the poconos below zero, bitterly cold and dangerous to be outside this afternoon. that's the very latest. we'll be back with team coverage right after this.
6:59 am
7:00 am
septa, new jersey transit, airports all shutdown. we intend to operate fewer trains than normal. already several inches of snow on the ground. this snow it's very slippery out here. to the city, tot suburbs, to the shore we have crews all over this morning. it's the blizzard of 2016. let's go. that was very dramatic, alex, lets owe go. > we are dealing with a lot this morning. >> look at that. > it is almost like we're out in it. our visibility is not good. > kathy, what's going on. >> we've got a lot to talk about. take a look at ultimate doppler. you can see some warm air, i should say some dry air working its way into the systems changing some of the precipitation over to rain. southern delaware and stream parts of southern new jersey, but don't worry, as the nor easer passes all of this will change back over to snow as much colder air filters in on the back side of it.
7:01 am
so a little bit of a drying situation going on even in philadelphia and delaware county. but that is going to end. we will see improvements in visibility even in montgomery county endsting right on up to the western parts of philadelphia temporarily. snow accumulations so far. dover 8.5. garden valley pa, 8 inches, washington township, new jersey, 7 and moorestown, new jersey, 7. these are a couple hours old so we do anticipate those numbers are higher. send them in or tweet us so we have an update. wind gusts, millville gusting to 37 miles an hour, sustained over a period of time, three hours or more, which it has been, we're talking about blizzard conditions. peak winds, gusting to 66 in lewis, delaware, could see a gust to 70 miles an hour down the shore. ocean city gusting to 55. cape may gusting to 51, port norris gusting to 51 miles an hour. wind chills in the single numbers. so it is dangerous to be outside for a long period of time and
7:02 am
the poconos it feels like minus 1. our fox futurecast shows that dry slot working its way in and then you can see the heavy snow wrapping around the system many as it begins to pull away, the snow will, too. but not until after 7, 8:00 we'll see the snow clear present west to east and early sunday morning it will come to an end. the blizzard warning continues through midnight, 2:00 a.m. for the delaware valley. that's the very latest from here. let's send it over to sue b for more of of the coastal concerns. we have a high tied going on right now. >> right. for most of our shore points that is the case. we're going toive good you the foreright now. weir going to talk about what the coastal problems are. 55 to 65-mile an hour winds have already been recorded. they could get higher as kathy mentioned. so some of those barrier islands have already been evacuated. it wouldn't be out of the question because of this flooding and all that wind
7:03 am
blowing all that water on shore. waive heights of 15 to 20 feet. so atlantic city high tied is indeed happening as we speak. it was official at 6:43. we got two more to get through where we could see this unusually high flooding. and then as we look at the high tied for cape may, in is 7:17. so we're not quite at official high tied, but of course the water is rising. and then for later on tonight, 7:43, 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. that's the deal for the brunt of the storm. i also wanted to talk about power outages, because that is such a problem with these high winds. that's what we have that you have prepared for and will continue to, because the winds knock down the trees and they can knock down the power lines and that's always a problem in storms like this. >> it'sing whying to p that. 7:03. > do you have some information about the shore. >> yes, tricia delong messaged
7:04 am
me saying she heard flood sirens a couple minutes ago in wildwood. > they are definitely dealing with that. > let's take a look at what it looks like down the shore. >> karen hepp. >>reporter: it is pretty darn snowing, this is the p hamilton area. i saw some of our good friends tweeting us saying they had some power outages. we're here at one of the areas where the people that are happy, the snowplow guys. these are the dark had owes that you can barely see. i don't know if andrew is capturing them. 55-mile per hour wind gusts. let's take a look up at the lights. i don't know if you can illustrate it enough. thanks, andrew p. it is just whipping with. it is cruel if you're out here bracing in your face. i don't know if we have that much no per se. i went down with the fancy pants raggedy old hair brush maneuver.
7:05 am
forget the ruler. i'm about half the hair brush. i'm going at about 5 inches at this particular location. we have all the big plows that are out here as well. the driver have been pretty brutal. people down in atlantic city, i thought this was interesting. done guardian, he was a mayor that tries to generate excitement because they need it there, he was saying that they have these problems but he doesn't want to declare an emergency because he wants people to come down and stay and make a party of it. people were having a snow party, baking food, christmas cookies. you don't want to be out of it. i have to go in a few minutes. i've got nothing more. you got anything? that is the first hair brush i've ever seen on morning television. > thank you, congratulations.
7:06 am
you've made history. something you can only get here on fox 29. >> very classy. > 16 peak deep. > let's get over to dan. let's see what's going on camden county. you're getting hammered much. >>reporter: there's no question. karen, i've always known her to be a very innovative reporter. the hair brush, no surprise. i've got 100 guys out on the street. trucks are doingç rotations rit now. some of the things that sue was saying earlier with the wind, the wind is going to be an issue. we're monitoring this very closely. one of our key preparations here was to make sure that our chainsaws were oiled up, our chippers were ready to go because this has the key ingredients, this storm in particular, with these. >> to just wreak havoc on the power systems and to bring down
7:07 am
lines. we're going to be watching trees, but our guys are out on the streets. they've been going since last night and we've had a lot of success with the storm so far. really, the thing mike is we are -- the way the wind is drifting the snow, you plow a lane, we've got 1200-mile lanes here in camden county and ultimately that can get filled in very quickly. >> with the high wind. > i think you made a good point, i think a lot of people because they're hearing that wind, they're concerned, is this a matter of time before my power goes out? >> listen, a lot of it is going to come down to geography. nine much ines of snow on the ground now, which means your trees are starting to saturate and depending on where you're at because camden county we've got 222 square miles to combat the storm in and we stretch -- as people know camden, we stretch
7:08 am
very far south into the pineland. >> yeah. > there's, you know, there's a lot of variables here that we're going to watch for the next 24 hours. > okay. dan, thanks a lot for your report. we'll probably call you back before noon. >> okay. > this is the first time in my life i've ever been snowed in. there was a two foot drift in front of my door. > what did you do. >> went out the back door. > it's because the wiped is really blowing everything. > let's stay down in new jersey. >> we want to know where steve keeley is. >> he's been on 42, on the ac expressway, trying to get to atlantic city for hours. where are you now in. >>reporter: well, mike, you are too kind, first of all. if i had dan kish on the air i would have reminded our viewers before he was the spokesman for the county he was the cherry hill spokesman. he became famous, remember he told us that the mayor was out riding on a plow.
7:09 am
meanwhile the mayor was actually in his condo down in florida. > let's get dan back on the phone so i can chastise him. >>reporter: again, that's why you people are the kind people and i'm the mean person. but i had to remind everybody of that story. now, we are still on the ac expressway. we got as fast as 40 miles an hour only because we actually saw some blacktop as we saw some sunlight, but the good news is, people are heeding everybody's advice and staying off the road. there's nobody going to the shore really and nobody coming back and that's good for atlantic city business, i guess, if everybody got down there and got stuck in the casino hotels overnight. so it is amazing to me that we're now getting the storms of the century, these once in a lifetime storms every three years. i guess it's once in a lifetime if you're a hamster. we are seeing some treacherous
7:10 am
conditions drown. my man jared who has been briefly driving this thing, what are we six hours into our day. two hands on the wheel. i'm going to interview him, even though you don't see him. how would you describe driving with these winds that we're feeling. >> this is the worst i've seen. this truck is basically a moving billboard. i drive boats. this thing feels worse than the worst ride on a boat i've ever been on. remember, the winds is the story at the shore. we are starting to feel some real stiff winds and we're not even anywhere near the coastline yet. we are being blowed on you to of plowed lane to the unplowed lane. we don't want to get in there because we will get stuck in there. very rough if you thattive to be out at the shore. i mentioned the firefighters battling the fire on the strip of land on brigantine manufactured which has ocean on one side, bay on the other side as soon as you get into brigantine from atlantic city. you can understand why that fire is so out of control with these
7:11 am
winds. all the firemen were told to evacuate out of that building. hopefully nobody's life is in danger. a fire in weather like this is really bad. you can just imagine what they're dealing with with the cold and these winds fighting a fire. > interesting comments from the driver of this vehicle, jared because he's constantly on his boat, you know. >> that's true. > he's sliding around like crazy on this vehicle. > be careful. they're almost to atlantic city it looks like. >> 7:11. we have some pictures from you guys. >> thanks a lot. > that were sent in. remember to use #fox29 snow. >> our new puppy loves the snow. > how do you know of they love the snow. >> this one has a sweater on. okay. look at this. we spent about 20 minutes struggling so she could go out. >> swifter is an interesting name for a dog, isn't it. he must slide along the floor.
7:14 am
> good morning, i'm fox 29 meteorologist kathy orr. we have a lot to talk about this morning. a little bit of dryer air working its way into the system, but don't worry the snow will be coming back with a sequence if you're seeing a little bit of a absolutely. visibility has improved in philadelphia, and parts of south jersey, but still reduced significantly to the north and west. reading a half mile visibility. trenton, a half mile. right now in wrightstown, only a quarter mile visibility, but
7:15 am
improved in philadelphia. the big problem reducing visibility in the city. of course is the wind. winds gusting to over 35 miles an hour. is that an is california? that's amazing. that's some is california. right now in philadelphia, 24-degrees is the current temperature. winds are sustained out of the northeast at 26 miles an hour. it feels like it's l. but you know when the wind is gusting to 35, 40 miles an hour it takes the warmth right away from your skin and you feel so much colder. the snow so far across the region, this just in, flower town, a foot of snow. morgantown, 13 inches, dover, 8.5, aston, pa, 8, mount holly, new jersey, home of the national weather service, 7.5. that needs to be updated. i think they're probably closer to 9 now. in norristown, 7.6. winds out of 9 northeast, our storm system still to the south of us gusting to 40 miles an hour in philadelphia. gusting to 37 in millville. right now in atlantic city at the airport gusting to 46.
7:16 am
higher gusts, 50, 60 miles an hour down the shore. wind chills, feels like 7. wilmington it feels like one below in the poconos. it feels like it's only in the teens in millville and wildwood with temperatures in the 30s and more of a when the snow. we will be seeing precipitation following heavy into the late morning, into the early afternoon, 3:00, 4, 5:00, by about 7:00 tonight the back edge to the west will slowly be moving toward the east and early sunday morning. i think between about midnight and 2:00 a.m. the snow should be ending. the blizzard warning continues into the early morning hours and here is a look at what we expect. still looking for about 18 plus along the i95 corridor. already most locations have picked up between 8 and 10 inches. some already a foot. and then between now and about 6:00 p.m. another 8 to 10 and then as we get closerç to late night hours two to four inches of snow when we rap it up and that is the very latest, bobby
7:17 am
kelly. > breaking news. what do you have? you're my little tasty cake today. can i get a kiss? >> how long you've been married. >> 20 years. > how is things going. >> good. > wip radio is right next door to our building at fourth and market and so they heard us talking about them and they send us over tasty cakes. >> that's the guy with the wip bags on his feet. > the guy that tried to get our attention. >> nice to be back with you, my friend. > reunited and it feels so good. nothing like a snowstorm and mike jerrick to kick off a weekend. open up the crime pits. here's a live look at 202. this is exactly what i talked about earlier.
7:18 am
if the roads are plowed, when you go to exit, he had to go over at least 12 inches of a snow bump there and now he's stuck in the middle of nowhere along route 202. that's a live look. here's a look at i95 near cottman avenue. light volume, stay put. call it one of those snow days. fire up the hot chocolate and the cocoa machine. here's a live look at the ben franklin bridge, for the emergency workers that need to get to work at the hospitals or the urgent care facilities, give yourself plenty of extra time. even if you're going to go somewhere, i'd call ahead and make sure that the place is open or the event is on time. >> look at that roadway. it looks pretty clear. > this h is the ben franklin bridge. again, the bridges have that tendency to freeze first because they get the wind. these crews have been out here all night plowing and salting. >> nice job. > looking at the american flag
7:19 am
blowing to give you an idea of the wind gusts. here's a live look at the 42 freeway. >> nobody. > nobody, but only one good lane at best. don't be confused by this one lane. it's getting to the major roadway is where you're going to have a problem. stay put, fire up the coffee pot. we're going to have a crime pit and we'll be right back. > i thought we were going to go to i95. >> i thought we were going to break. > i heard both. >> do you want to go to bill in. > whatever you want to do. >> do you want to go to bill or break-in bill is on i91. >> like i said, we're going to break.
7:22 am
> it is 7:2 # and right now we are taking a live look in reading. you can see there are some cars that are out on the roadways there. but they're moving very slowly because i'm sure they're having trouble trying to get through there. we're also going to check in on the airport. look at the camera shaking. it's showing you how the wind is really blowing right now. of course there is no activity at the airport because the airport is shutdown today. you may remember yesterday we challenged everyone on the show to give their predictions. we're going to use the airport as kind of our marker. whatever the total is at the apport you can check and see if
7:23 am
how many inches we're going to get is correct. >> do you know how many inches we have. >> the measurement that we have is ole. but we're estimating 8 inches so far. > flower town. >> 12. > 12 inches in flower town. >> hopefully some people will send us in some pics. p if you live in flower town send us in some pics. look at this one from jessica. she said my poor pup. she's not going to be able to get out. she opens the door and there's a drift. that's probably two and a half feet high, maybe three. >> i know jessica actually she lives in south philly. > the snowfall in williamstown overnight from kk. we want to see besides snow because we know what snow looks like, what are you doing inside your house, making breakfast. >> drifts outside my window are taller than my brother.
7:24 am
that is a good marker. karen hepp is using her hair brush and little chief kathleen are using her brother. > i like when people measure with humans. >> bill anderson said it is up to his ankle. i'll bet this is this morning. people are having fun. > i guess the sun is starting to come up a little bit. this is outside my bedroom window. the wind is harsh. i've been talking with marion juan. she said she's sitting in her house and she's listening to the wind and she said we've never heard these kind of sounds before. >> i have to agree with her. this wind is fears. > send us your pics, especially if you're in flower town. use the #, fox 29 snow and we'll we're going to take a break.
7:27 am
7:28 am
inside and look at it and you're nice and warm and dry because we are, as you heard all morning, discouraging travel. we just threw together this list of updated snowfall totals. we had morgantown, pa with 13 inches of snow. we just got king of prussia over 11 inches, over 11 and a half inches, about a foot in flower town, cherry hill nine and a half so far. port penn, delaware is 11 inches. these are all so far totals because you see from ultimate doppler radar that there is more to come. you see an area that has it has stopped snowing, but that is only for a time being. we call that a dry spot moving along the delaware bay into south jersey. this is a good time during the lull to get out and do a little shoveling. if you don't want to really wait until the whole event is over if you're going to get a foot of snow and maybe do a little bit now and a little bit later and
7:29 am
maybe you'll get ahead of it before it gets too bad because there's much more to come. visibility is really the issue because it's the amount of snow and you just saw the totals which are very, very large. and then the wind is broke it around. we're down to a quarter mile or less visibility in the area. that's part of what turned our winter storm, mike, alex, into a blizzard. it's the wind. > a blizzard. >> yes. > by the way, another plow driver, it looks like an independent contractor has come by and is cleaning off our area. >> thank you very much. > that is very nice. >> thank you. you can see the curb. he's up on the sidewalk. going across fourth street there over to wip. thank you very much. boy, it's deep. > it is. >> now that the sun is coming out we're getting to really see. >> he's going down the wrong way down market street. > breaking the law. >> there are so many cars that
7:30 am
are out right now, mike, i'm sure. > he's still trying to get someone to get him coffee. >> we're trying to find out what is open. > let's find out where keeley is because he's been trying to make it to atlantic city for six hours. where are you? >> we've made it to atlantic city as we switch to the front cam. this is the brigantine bridge. we are going right over to brigantine because i've been telling you about this fire. how a fire hose is going to have the water, even at that high pressure come out of the hose and actually hit the fire in these ridiculous winds is something i can't wait to see. we're going over the back bay now, nothing but white caps and high waves. this is the first of three of the expected 10 highest tides of all times since we started measuring tides at the shore. this is going to be the lowest of the three because they think the water that's going to build up from this high tied with the full moon and these high winds is not going to recess and go back into the ocean like normal. it's going to sit back on the back bay and when we have the
7:31 am
next high tied tonight it's going to be on on top of this, it's going to be like a wedding cake layer upon layer. tomorrow morning we could see the worst flooding we've ever seen in parts of the jersey shore ever. that's what we're warning people about and that's why you saw police going door to doors saying a good idea to evacuate. we can't force you out. the reason we're calling it a mandatory evacuation is because we don't want first responders risking their lives because you decided to stay. you can see the bay on one identify and there's homes on the other where this fire is supposed to be. we've been smelling smoke since we got through the second pleasantville toll plaza. that's how much the wind was carrying the smoke. you can imagine what the wind did to these flames, because this is basically a beach-front property. that's why we have the highest winds at the shore. there's no buildings, no trees,
7:32 am
these winds are coming right over the ocean without anything stopping them, slowing them down. that's why we're having such high winds. gusts at least into the 50s. it's like we're riding a bronco in a rodeo. he's holding the wheel and the wind keeps taking the vehicle in another direction. very tough driving. we saw people getting plowed out of one lane on the ac expressway and getting stuck. very dangerous to get out of your car on a highway when you're stuck because other pep don't see you with this low visibility and they'll kill you by running you over. you have to be very careful when you're stuck on a road not to get hit by somebody coming along and passing by. as we roll up now nothing but slush in these roads which are filling up with water fast. you can see the fire equipment on the scene and some smoke. this is right near the marine ma'am el stranding center where we do a lot of shots when they're rescuing seals on the
7:33 am
beach. if you think plowing was tough, imagine being a firefighter. you can see the wires overhead blowing back and forth. if they know no one is in these houses -- briefing teen is more of a year round residential area. a the look of casino employees live here. there's a chance that people were living there at the time. the good thing is, it's not like philadelphia. these aren't connected row houses. they should be far enough away even in high winds like this to keep it from spreading. we'll get out and do some reporting and get back to you as soon as possible. > i can see the smoke. see that on the left. >> you can. > just imagine like steve was mentioning what these firefighters were dealing with. we were talking about just walking into work. it's hard to see and keep your eyes open and see what you're doing. you can only imagine if you're trying to fight a higher. >> the winds at the shore have been up to 66 miles an hour in some places.
7:34 am
if you're a firefighter or someone who is experienced this. how does the snow and the wind affect the fire and how you address it and handle it. >> moisture might help put it out, but probably not. it's probably too intense. we'll see. > here's karen. >>reporter: i don't know if you could see it, we just had one of those gusts that kicked up big time out here. certainly that's one of the issues and it's a huge problem with driving. we had the issue, you're driving and then you're melting it with the defoster on your windshield and then it's freezing so fast you can't keep the windshield wipers clear. so we had to keep pulling over on the ac expressway and flicking the windshield wipers because the gusts are coming and they chill down so fast that it's really problematic when you're trying to get around. we have some of these big huge snowplows and they have been working non-stop. what's really interesting, steve has mentioned how many of the roads aren't plowed, the plows
7:35 am
come through, but it is coming down so fast they can't keep up. it was time to get off, find a place to be, the first exit routes they hadn't donnie of the exit ramps at all. it was actually too dangerous for us to make some of the exits so we had to keep going. finally we said it's time to get off the highway. we have to get on tv. we did. we were going through at least foot thick heavy snow. down here, i'm sure this is what steve is dealing with as well, it's this damp, damp, i keep getting soaked through every time i get back in the truck. it's almost like a rain/snow. it's the whole other component, too, where it's also icy and we keep getting changes that are coming in. i feel like we're on the cusp. we have to check in with kathy and sue if we're wobbling back and forth. i'm right between the ac expressway and the white horse pike, mays landing, hamilton area. i think we're getting a lot of changeover and flux that is happening. i would be curious to see what
7:36 am
the official word is on some of the gusts. if people could tweet me, i would appreciate it. if you're having power outages, issues, use our #fox29 snow. that's the latest. it's pretty brutal out here, guys. > my gosh. i get the sense that guy's plow is owned by joseph. did you get that idea. >> yeah, i did. > you just heard from our sister station in washington, d.c., across the river in alexandria right there, they have 12 inches already. >> they do have 12 inches. about an hour ago they were tweeting out that thunder snow is being reported in parts of our area there for fox family there, fox5 d.c. here's a look at the white house with what they're dealing with there. >> extra white today. > it's really white amongst all the white. >> the white white house. > that's south of us. let's check north of us now in times square. long elan was supposed to get hit really hard. it looks like mid town, they're
7:37 am
7:39 am
7:40 am
they're leaving. >> thank you. put some gloves on. > do they have the windows down. >> thank you for clearing out our parking spots there. > lets lets he get over to eve can in. he's with the new jersey department of transportation. >> good morning, kevin. what are you dealing with so far. >>reporter: good morning, guys, obviously there's heavy snow falling throughout the state, falling heaviest on the southern and central portions of the state. we're experiencing some coastal flooding in cape may and atlantic counties. we currently have 25 pieces of equipment on the road plowing and salting. the winds are starting to pick up, with decreased visibility creating a more difficult driving situation and also changing the road conditions rapidly. even as we're clearing road, snow drifts can accumulate quickly. so we're obviously asking drivers to stay off the roads, if possible and stay home. > and they are.
7:41 am
>> yeah. we're see saying that. we're going to be saying that all day, stay home, stay safe. it's going to be tough out there. the no is going to continue throughout the day and the winds are going to continue to pick up. it looks like they've got quite a bit, kind of rain/sleet down the shore. >> yeah, there's a wintry mix down the shore. it will create a freezing road situation. it's dangerous. it's rough. it's nothing we can't handle. but the best thing to do is stay home. > we have a hot of brigantine punched up now. there's a house fire. it looks like they've knocked it down. have you heard of any other accidents or anything? is everything okay. >> for the most part it seems like everything is being handled pretty well, i know that route 37 in cape may county and the george reading bridge are closed due to coastal flooding and route 130 in atlantic city
7:42 am
is also closed due to flooding. we might see more of thats a the tides pick up and the storm continues. down the shore they're having a piling up of issues, the no, the flooding and you have the winds. >> yeah. > hang in there and we'll check back with you. >> sounds good. thanks, guys. > you got it, man. 7:42. we're going to take a break and we'll be right back.
7:45 am
> ' kay. is 7:44 and we're taking a live look in trenton. i can't get over how it looks like it's fog, but that's snow that's blowing around, kathy. >> and that means it's a fluffy snow. that's because the temperatures are so cold in the 20s. but as you head a little further down the shore and that is where karen hepp is you have a little bit more of a wentry mix. a little bit of a mix, but as the storm passes by during the day, the winds become more northerly and then it fills in and becomes all snow again. anywhere you're seeing mixed precipitation it's objection to the form going to last for a short period of time. if you take a zoom in you can see some dryer air working its way in. the differential between the ocean and the storm moving in to land, the air mass created what we called a gravity wave and that created this dry slot. it's not going to last all that long, the next hour or so and then we'll be 'ing the filling in and the visibility will be reduced again. visibility improved in

philadelphia, three-quarters of a mile. pottstown a mile, a quarter mile of visibility in the lehigh valley where we still have some heavy snow falling. here are some updated snow totals, upper darby 11.5 inches, new castle delaware, 10. singing springs county, burkes county, 9.2. absecon, new jersey, inland from the shore, six inches of snow. right there right now, is that mike in. >> that's mike all right. i came out here to talk to the plow guy because i have this guy who was going to come by and make us omelettes. he lives in south philly. his name is michael simoon and there is a 12-foot drift blocking him in so i was going to have him plow him out. do you think i should bring you my coat. >> i'm coming back in. can you see these people with their bags.
7:47 am
>> where are they headed to, the airport? > they said they're from south florida. >> where are they going. >> i think they're going to 30th street. > they got a long walk. >> true. oh, no. > there's a bunch -- i hear a bunch of sirens in old city. we'll check on what that is about. >> all right. so the plow guys left. i guess we're not going to get food. we need food. >> it's going to be a long day. mike you can pop into my weather cast any day. > that was pretty cool. i showed a live picture and you just popped up. > what else do we have. >> remember the old micky house club, anything can happen day. > i know i'm dating myself. every day was a different day. this is anything, but in the case of weather we could have a pretty good idea of what we think is going to happen. take a look at the temperature outside, it's 24-degrees, but it feels like 8. that's the cold, really dry air that kathy wasç talking about r

our snow. you can see it's the month the blinding snow right now because it's not falling as heavily with the dry spot but we have a 45-mile an hour wind gust. you go to wildwood and you see 53-mile an hour gust there and at philadelphia international. this gives us single digits and teens. it feels like 21 in wildwood. as we go through the futurecast here, we jump ahead to # 1:00 and we see as kathy was mentioning, a lot of filling in that was happening. to the north of us and to bucks county, you see the line between the rain and the snow starting to move a little farther south, that cold air coming on in and chilling everything down so that that it's back to snow in cape may county, sussex county and delaware and then out of here around midnight. let's say between midnight and 8:00 a.m. the snow is gone. these are the total estimates. still going with 18 to 4 inches
7:49 am
when all is said and done because we've got a whole day of this, folks, for the snow to pile up. when you go right tot north of us you could get as much as a foot in western burkes county, western lancaster county, down around south jersey, around millville, 18 inches on the high end of that estimate. we could end up with 8 inches in cape may. we've only just gun. here is an example of what could happen to you if you decide to head out this morning. here's a look at route 20 # down the westchester pike. these guys tried to exit onto route 3 and again because of the plow situation, you can see the snow blowing back onto the roadway. they were probably hit with a 12 to 15-inch snow butt. you think about where you really have to go before you head out today. i even heard they could cancel church tomorrow, mike. >> and i'm supposed to be an usher. > an usher, yeah, an altar boy
7:50 am
and i think we're taking up the gifts tomorrow, too. >> no, pennsylvaniaing on the dance floor and no parking on the snow emergency routes in philadelphia, delaware and new jersey. that's really important. i know the ppa, they do not want to toe your car. no parking on the snow emergency routes in the city. there are only two septa services that are operating right now, the market frankfurt and the market subway. modified service on amtrak today and all of new jersey transits rail, bus analyte rail systems all suspended for the remainder of the day. mike, alex back over to you. >> we do look like a snow globe, don't we. like little characters in a snow globe. an amazing pose, mike. i think i have a solution. i'm hungry. i know people watching the show right now are making objection to the form lets and pancakes for the kids. we're here working. i was going to get some food and
7:51 am

7:54 am
> welcome back. 7:54. that's what i want to see. a way to rub it in, tan yeah. she said i got the bread and milk. that looks good. and then says look at this karen, taking a look at the snow outside their window. see the wind chimes there, they are slanted. you can see that wind is really blowing. > i would say that's a foot, wouldn't you. >> medford, new jersey. > frank martin says, caitlyn is helping us dig out of the snow in lands dale. >> how cute. he's being helpful. > that's so cute. if he didn't have that little black patch you wouldn't see him. >> that's so true, blend right in. > who is behind me. >> chopper.

7:56 am
>> very few. > are you guys looking for some help. >> we are also seeing that people are also heeding the warning. our car for roadside assistance dramatically tapered off last evening. i think people are heeding the warnings. we will likely see our call volume go back up on monday morning as people return to work and school and start to get back to their car for the first time after the weekend. > so we've been listening to our weather forecast tears. what have you been hearing, that monday it should be pretty much clear, but the roads will probably still have some ice and snow on it. >> the roads will melt as it gets up into the 40s. we'll see the snow start to melt and then we have the black ice overnight. motorists will need to use caution over the next few days as they venture back out to the roadways once the blizzard has

cleared out and the road crews have cleared the roads. > if you go out in your car, you're supposed to have stuff in your car, like the blanks et cetera and medication you might need, whatever. >> did you pack your vehicle kit like we talked about the other day? > yes. >> very good. nobody ever plans to get stuck out there. it's not necessarily your break down, but there could be traffic from another crash or a road closure. so make sure you have shovel to dig yourself out and blankets and non perishable food items and all the things we talked about. > important things to talk about. >> she was just on our show thursday. i know this woman and i meed up her name. i apologize. > coming up at 8:00 we're going to take a quick break, come back, boom. remarkable things are happening at your local acme.
