same things. wind is really blowing. you can see it's coming down thick. >> um-hmm. >> sue, what kind of totals are you getting out of like lehigh, berks county, et cetera, something like that? >> we are seeing most of our snowfall totals as of this point are either side of a foot of snow but what we're showing you here and working on getting this information to you. we're just getting it together right now. because of the pictures that we saw of the flooding down at the shore, we're already talking record flooding lewes, delaware which is right, you know, the cape may lewes ferry, when you go across there and go on to the very tip of delaware, we're seeing record flooding at the delaware bay there. so we saw pictures from wildwood undoubtedly it is just as bad there and are we in play there. >> you're good. >> you're good. >> okay there. we go. all right. now we're looking at this map because of the sustain high winds and i just put on my facebook page sue serio fox 29 a projection for 2:00 o'clock this
10:01 am
afternoon. we're talking about winds down around lewes, delaware which we were just talking about, cape may, will still be in the in the 60, 65 miles an hour range. that's approaching hurricane force but the thing is, we've been seeing these winds just keep up and keep going and going all day long. so the fact that it's going to be sustained means that this is the likely area where power lines are going to come down and we may see power outages. so now we have to worry about the next high tide. so in atlantic city it's this evening at 7:09 that we expect the next high tide and then because kind of this cumulative he can because the water doesn't have a chance to recede very far because of these continued high winds blowing that water in, then tomorrow morning at 7:26 we'll have the same problem or maybe even worse because again like i said the next high tide and then the one after that and the water not having a chance to recede. here's your cape may high tide this evening at 7:43. you need to prepare for that as well as the sunday morning tied which will be at 8:00 o'clock,
10:02 am
of course, that's tomorrow. here's a look at our current radar picture. we had that dry slot. we had a lull in the action for many of us. but now we are back in action. we had little bit of thundersnow to the north and west of us but because of this band that is segment up here with the darker horse here we'll probably see higher snowfall totals north and west of the city than what we had originally predicted otherwise the rest of the storm is playing out as planned and it's bad as we kept telling you that it would be and we're seeing a little bit of mixing with rain but you know the shore problems are completely different than the piling and piling of snow that we're seeing in the metro area here. so we've got these current wind gusts of 44 miles an hour in wilmington. 38 miles an hour in philadelph philadelphia. 44 miles an hour in atlantic city and projection of even higher wind gusts. this is what it look like in our neighborhood right now. got to stay on top of this because with these high snowfall totals we're expecting, going out a little bit every couple of

non-emergency calls to use it. with that said, i will introduce mayor kenney who will provide additional information about our snow response efforts. mayor? >> good morning everybody. first i want to thank everyone for heeding the warnings that we've given. people stayed off the roads generally and are workers are beginning to attack the storm with veracity. i want to thank all workers on our streets and all the folks here in this room today have been here for long time. in addition to all the city employees we have the state police and other folks here just really chipping in to help keep our people safe. this will be a long-term plowing and clearing operation. and i thank all our city workers for what they're doing. people need to help and continue to cooperate to make this work. we are asking specifically the residents remove their cars from snow emergency routes. this happened in the beginning but for some reason they seem to be creeping back on to the snow emergency routes which is causing problems for septa and streets department to get their operations back online.
10:06 am
please do not throw snow on the street. i grew up in south philadelphia. i know people like every ounce of snow off their pavement but you can't do it because it's going to cause a lot of aggravation going forward and keeping our routes clean. located your neighbors. look after those shut ins look after seniors tomorrow when we get back outside and people start going to the supermarket knock on neighbor's door see if older person needs something from the store, make sure you bring it back to them much this is all about us being together and cooperating with each other in the best way possible. use common steps. stay inside. a lot of stuff on tv and just watch tv enjoy yourselves make soup and just don't go out. at this time i'd like to turn it over to sam phillips and claw recent towson to provide additional information. >> good morning. thanks for joining us in the emergency operations center. i'll start off with quick weather update. we are still in a blizzard warning. the blizzard warning hours were amended slightly this morning
10:07 am
and slated to stop at 6:00 a.m. sunday versus 10:00 a.m. sunday as originally forecasted. at 9:30 this morning, we measured 17.1-inches outside of the city's emergency operations center. that's an official monitoring station. we still are expecting to get 18 to 24-inches of snow. with this blizzard warning, again, wee preparing for high winds and we think the winds are really going to pick up later this afternoon. there's a little bit of a lull in the snow right now, and between 2:00 and 5:00 the snow should be fairly light. however, between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. and even a little later in the evening, it's going to start to increase in intensity as we approach the evening hours. so if you think that the weather has passed us and fortunately we're brag bracing for a little bit more snow to get us, you know, to the 20-inch mark if not higher. so please be patient with us. continue to stay off the roads and help us in that regard.
10:08 am
the eoc has trance zig to do a full active vague 8:00 a.m. today. they are focusing on public transit, transportation operations working closely with the streets department and penndot on clearing and certainly focused first and for most on public safety. we're really working to make sure that our emergency response vehicles, medic and fire trucks can navigate through the snow. so again if you stay off the roads it helps us get those crews in. at this point i'd like to turn it over to deputy manager director clarena towson for update on the snow plowing and clearance operation. >> we're in the missed a full deployment of equipment around the entire city. under the direction of commissioner donald carlton we have 11 agencies along with the streets department that are being coordinated to plow and salt city streets. our efforts are being focused on primary streets, of course, but
10:09 am
as well we're working on residential streets. given the amount of snow that we have expect continued activity throughout the day for all plowing and snowing -- salting activities. some streets may appear to not have been plowed even plows have gone through because of the significant amount of drifting that is occurring. please be patient with crews as they continue to work on all streets throughout the entire city. we'll now have septa come forward. thank you. good morning. septa continues to run our market frankford and our broad street lines. we ran them overnight and we continue to run on our saturday schedule and we have not experienced any problems. so if you are going to -- if do you have to travel if you have to get into center city those lines have been very reliable throughout the storm. we continue to also run our trollies and our trains
10:10 am
throughout our rail network. we do that so that we keep our railheads clear, you know from the snow accumulation. i'd like to reiterate what the mayor said about staying off of the trolley tracks because if we're going to resume our service we need to be able to run our troll trollies overnight to keep the trails clear. so if you can help us, keep your cars off of the tracks, it will help us return service quicker. we continue to inspect our infrastructure, our switches, our signals, our power lines to make sure that we are able to resume service. we would like to thank our employees they are weathering the storm like many of us throughout the city and the surrounding counties. they're out there battling the storm be able to make our platform safe and try to start working on our parking lots. our resumption of service will be slow. as you heard, the storm is going to pick up again. we'll have more accumulation. we do expect to rhee return the service at some point tomorrow. we also know that parking lots
10:11 am
may be minimum but that will be our focus so people can actually get to our rail stations. but we will definitely work closely with the city when how we restore bus service, how we come out of a state of emergency and how we are able to make sure that we can bring service back so people can come back into the city. our best place for information is the septa website. to be able to see what lines are running tomorrow and when they're running whether they're with detours or some of the lines that are still suspended. thank you. any questions? >> for the gentleman from septa. >> can you identify yourself. >> i'm sorry, rob hopkins assistant general manager for operations. >> they'll take questions. i think again you got the gist of what they're saying. >> they're reporting up to 15-inches in the philadelphia area. which is more than they were expecting but said they're able to handle it one of the main concerns is snow drifting.
10:12 am
we have seen a lull recently but they're expecting a lot more this evening. >> that's why they shall pay better attention to fox 29. our weather forecast because we said 18 to 24-inches. so they should have been listening to us. >> that's true. but they're doing a pretty good job. the main story now is down the shore. that's for sure. it's getting scary and very dangerous but we do want to check in on delaware wilmington, right? is that yes jenny is. >> jenny is now. hey, jenny. >> reporter: good morning, alex and mike. we are here at the deldot center in smyrna, delaware. i know that you guys saw a short timing a governor markell did hold a press conference here. he announced the increase level two driving conditions which i did talk about. that was issued around 8:00 o'clock this morning. that means only search personnel are allowed on the roadways health care workers, emergency personnel, food and fuel deliveries. so obviously if you're not one of those if you didn't receive a waiver in advance to be out there on the roadways they said you must stay home which they understand is not good for
10:13 am
business. they only do this in true emergencies. that's what the governor said. so they are calling this a really significant storm. the governor just told me a couple minutes ago that he's headed over to the national guard headquarters. the national guard is getting ready in case there are any evacuations which he told me there might be at the shore points because there is significant flooding. route 1 down between dewey and bethany significant flooding that stretch of route 1 has since been shut down. here at heat we're a little bit lucky because the wind has died down much it's still snowing. it's a mix between the big snowflakes and the sleet. governor markell also said that there have been more than 150 stranded vehicles out there on the roadway. one of the reasons that they did increase to a level two because it's just too dangerous. he also said that the plow trucks are out there. they are still working on those primary roads. so the local roads haven't been touched and they might not be touched until monday morning. they will probably stay on those
10:14 am
primary roads through tomorrow just because of the snow is obviously continuing to fall. this is a hefty system as we know. it's not stopping any time soon. so he does ask for people people to be patient. obviously stay home for now and your local roads may not be finished until monday morning. mike and alec. >> probably true, yeah. >> buckle down for the weekend. >> again, major part of the story now is the flooding down the shore. not only in delaware but also in new jersey. we'll take through next.

but boy it's hard to stand up again and you look at these waves they're very tall. but they're getting shortened and flattened real fast by the winds. you can see the winds just pick up the water and toss it into the air. there's not a sole on the atlantic city boardwalk smartly, and we are right across the boardwalk from the closed revel casino. you can see the beach in front of the revel revel beach not much left of revel beach right now. you can see the dunes doing their job. holding the water back but there's so much water in other parts of atlantic city they are getting to people with the tall military trucks that they took, you know, the surplus trucks they got here just for situations just like this. one thing about the winds here, look at the front gates of the garden peer. the wind blew the gates right off the hinges and you can see one gate bent over there. still blowing back and forth in the winds. so it wasn't just our news truck where we broke the hinges because of the winds. anything that's not really
10:20 am
fortified will blow. we're looking at parts of the roof. see here on the peer here? what you're seeing there are parts of the roof here for the garden peer. so, again, the garden peer taking another battering and another nor'easter i've been in this business a long time. i was on this garden peer back in february and march '84 when we had nor'easter here in atlantic city that tore up part of the boardwalk. so nor'easters traditionally have done way more damage in atlantic city and on the jersey shore than hurricanes and that '62 nor'easter the reason that one was the worst of all time that was four days, 96 hours, straight of a nor'easter waves, winds, flooding, you name the it. we didn't have the forecast then that we have today so there was little warning for folks who were along the jersey shore and got caught in that storm. >> good history lesson from kathy and steve there. >> yeah. >> just to see that and see that gate, the door off the hinge. >> ripped it right off. >> okay. so we'll take a quick break but right back down the shore when

the main roads even if you think oh, here's a plow truck, it's clear. a lot of the exit ramps are covered and in several inches of snow for some reason it's those exit ramps that looked worse than the main roads. so we know that there is now a level two declaration here in delaware. so that means nobody should be on the road right now. so hopefully everybody is heeding that warning we're still down here at the delaware emergency operations center also deldot station here in smyrna, delaware, and we will continue to stay here for the next hour or so. mike and alex. >> jenny, it's snowing so hard i can't even tell where you are. are you in front of a building? what's behind you? >> snow piled up. >> reporter: yeah. well, it's an open field. >> okay. >> reporter: we have the emergency operation center over here to our right. i just kind of wanted to show the depth of the snow that we're dealing with right now. >> dramatic. >> thanks for showing that to us. >> he's out staning in her feel as they say. >> okay.
