right over the air could be a little unhealthy for people who are susceptible to poor air quality. watch that. the area of concern here is new jersey. the we've been looking at the chance for thunderstorms. but it looks like it will stay. we won't see relieve from any type of rain that could cool the air down briefly. showers will stay to the north today. the temperatures will continue to climb. they could easily be into the 90s this afternoon. we're starting off into the 60s and 70s. cooler weather by memorial day. that's coming up in the seven day forecast i'll have that in a about it. > this this morning. new jersey state police are investigating a horrific crash that happened along the ac lines of the ac expressway. that's right by winslow township. we do know there were two cars involved. investigators say several people were hurt. we don't know what caused this crash or the extent of the injuries. traffic is being diverted in the area. still shutdown in that area. investigators say they do plan to open the lanes shortly. one person is in critical condition from this motorcycle. it happened around roosevelt boulevard and c street in the olney section. we don't know what caused that crash or the name of victim. in lehigh county police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash. this one near hamilton boulevard
7:04 am
and lincoln avenue near the entrance to door any park. a motorcycle collided with a car. the motorcycle rider died. a passenger was with him. he is in the hospital currently and we have no word on her condition. and a man is dead following a shooting in southwest philadelphia. it happened around 3 this morning at 56th and upland street. police say they found a trail of blood in the area and discovered a 26 year old man a few blocks away who had been shot multiple times in the chest and leg. the victim wouldn't tell them who shot them. he was taken to the hospital where he died and so far no suspects have been identified. > s there's a woman from delaware who is missing. a new castle county police need your help to try to fine her. we're going to show you her picture. 32 year on the courtney murphy was last seen walking in the area of new castle. her father called the police. he was very concerned about his daughter's welfare after reading
7:05 am
her social media post. her dad feels she may be a threat to herself. p if you recognize her or see her please call police immediately. divorce have found the body of the 56 year old man of the plain crash. the world war ii era plane was taking a loop in the air around 7:30 last night. it was to promote an air show when all of a sudden there was smoke and it crashed into the river between new york and new jersey. police say they haven't confirmed that the body is of that of the pilot whos what the only passenger on the plane. we identified where the plane is located. it's still off the shores of new jersey and we're still trying to continue the investigation regarding why the plain went down and how am -- we believe there was one passenger that was with the aircraft.
7:06 am
> the plane is a replica p47 thunderbird. this was an old world war ii replica plane. it was celebrating its 75th anniversary. it's 7:06. it's a case in which hope, community outreach ended up prevailing in a difficult investigation. a suspicion fire at north penn high school this week caused extensive damage in the music room and nearly awful the bands' 250 instruments were damaged. the band was schedule to play at the lansdale memorial day parade. news of the mishap spread quickly and another high school loan them more than 200 instruments. immediately after the fire happened i started to get texts from other teachers offering instruments. the community was overwhelming. this won't stop us. we will honor those who gave
7:07 am
their lives for our country. they said it all. it won't stop them. the marching nights with their borrowed instruments will play at monday's he memorial day parade. police in tell minute son township have ammonsed the the 17 year old student was arrested and charged with the fire. it is 7:07. we also want to have a little bit of fun. it is a holiday weekend. so am people right now are going down the shore to enjoy it. brad satin is in atlantic city. brad, behind you looks good so far. how isette it down there? >>reporter: karen was saying a little bit of fun, i say a whole loft fun. yes, i is a big weekend here at the jersey shore, memorial day weekend one of the biggest of the season. still pretty quiet here. they had a party at tropicana. we're just about a block or so away. last night there was an annual balloon doctor. as we turn to the right this is the bungalow. they are gearing up for what
7:08 am
will certainly be a pretty nice crowd, a breakfast crowd into p in a little bit. walkingñi down to the boardwalkt is fairly quiet. i got to tell you you, driving down here was no problem whatsoever if you're paying an early start right now you should be okay before the heavy traffic begins. let's walk towards the beach. you probably want to stay out of of the water right now because itself the ' only about 58-degrees. this is the day, i think of the three days what we're hearing as far as fun in the sun, today is the day to be out here. i can tell you atlantic city is ready, of course getting some good news, a big shot in the arm yesterday when the governor signed a deal to kind of avoid bankruptcy, give the city leaders more time to get their finance pes straight with the ate casinos up and running. let's take a look at the beach. i have to catch up to him. how are we looking out there? not a lot going on.
7:09 am
we're expecting some nice crowds. there's been an issue with beach erosion. remember tropical storm wakeen. that caused some problems. we're going to come back and bring you more. we're going to talk to some of the folks. a big night last night and we're expecting the same thing over the next couple of days. today the best weather wise. it makes sense nobody is on the beach yet. they'll be there after good day philadelphia. > we're talking about celebrating, but of course there is the importance of memorial day and volunteers all over the season they're placing flags at cemeteries to honor our fallen heros. coming up, why one local mom felt it so important for her son to be a part of this tradition. the summer is full of all kinds of fun activities but what are your legal rights if something terrible happens. you could be held liable if you
7:10 am
have an issue at the beach or the pool. take a look at some of the pictures you were sending in. tell us what with you of you were doing in the wonderful celebration. we have birthday pics. keep them coming. where are you spending memorial day and also anybody in your family who has served and you would love to see those pictures as well. use the hashtag, fox 29 good day
7:13 am
> we're remembering the true meaning of this memorial day weekend. in monroe township hundreds of flags were placed at the graves of the brave men and women who have served our country. volunteers placed the flags on more than 2,000 grave sites at gloucester county veterans memorial settlement try. among those volunteers the family of roberts blitz, a memorial corpse veteran who served in vietnam. he was proud to be there to do his job. that's where he was supposed to be. you know, he he left me and two babies at home. we'll manage. he had to do what he had to do and you did what you had to do. >> that's what we do. she brought her four year old son. she says she wants h him to know how special his grandfather was.
7:14 am
outside our nation's capital soldiers placed a quarter of a million flags. it's all part of a memorial day tradition. every available soldier in the 21st in vin try took place in the ceremony. they also placed 14,000 flags at the air mens home cemetery in washington. the the flags are he removed after memorial day. the pools are opening this weekend and of course the ocean, kids will be trying to run in no matter how cold it is. we're excited because it's almost time for camps. we have concerns heat hanson joining us by skype. do people really sue the camp counselors and why? >> they really do. they sue camps more than they sue camp counselor and they sue
7:15 am
the pool before lifeguards. the truth is lifeguards and counselors don't have a whole lot of money or insurance. however, the camps, the municipal they do have insurance and they're usually on the receiving end when something happens. do we have cases where people are suing lifeguards i would imagine after some terrible tragedy. >> absolutely in the 1990s the biggest verdict in pennsylvania at the time was a case -- it was a situation where the two lifeguards on duty at a pool were actually laying out sunning themselves rather than watching the pool and a young boy became brain damaged. they chose to sue the owner of the l pool because it was a huge verdict. that does happen. i think one of the things that is important to remember. i was a camp counselor for many years and as a kid who is a camp counselor you have to remember that there is actually the
7:16 am
potential for some liability there and ultimately your parents might want to consider some sort of an umbrella policy to make sure you're covered. that's interesting. how much would it cost? you want your kid to get a job. you want him to do something useful. it's the right of passage to have him go work at a camp or a beach. how much would it cost to get your kid insured. >> it depends on your homeowner's insurance. some people would tell you not to get a policy because whenever there is more money the insurers will be looking for it. the employer is responsible for the employee's actions many that's the case across the board no matter what it is that you doment for a camp counselor the camp is going to be responsible because they have to be sure that they've hired competent people and that they've trained them appropriately. the same is with the lifeguards. if something happens with the lifeguard, whether it's a beach, the homeowner's association, if it's a condo pool, whoever is the employer will bear the all
7:17 am
ultimate responsibility because they have to be sure higher people correctly, make sure they're doing what they're supposed to be dog and make sure that they have trained them well. the good thing to remember is whether you're a camper or a swimmer you're responsible for your own well-being so you have to watch out for yourself. > thank you so much. we really appreciate it. >> thanks, karen. > the time right now is 7:17. there it is, philly's own ddj jazz i jeff kicks off summer fest at the blue cross river ring last night. a big crowd of people turned out to see him spin while am skated at the river ring. it also debuted a new chiquita i and petes as well as minute i golf. they kicked off the unofficial start to the summer. the weather may have already done that for us. nothing says summer like crab
7:18 am
fries. the international airport looks good this season. if you're on a flight it looks pretty clear right number ofs there's not much of an issue weather wise. the heat will continue to build up today. we have a lotting whying on, not only here, but let's head out west. one of our local track teams is on the road this morning. here they are with a weather question. fox 29 good day t team we're running in the state championships today. tell us how the weather is going to be. >> if you have your passes of the baton like that there's no issues. good luck for cardinal county. no issues with the weather. things are all clear with the radar this morning. ultimate doppler looking pretty good. showers and storms could stay north of the area today but we have some rain coming into the area tomorrow and monday. here's the future weather computer showing an isolated shower or two up across the hey lie valley up across the
7:19 am
poconos. the heat and humidity continue to build up from the the south. we have some low clouds and some see fog developing. you get the warm who the air right over the ocean. down the shore you might see soming fog developing tonight. there's the rain tomorrow. that's tropical moisture, tropical depression which is moving towards the carolinas. the moisture from that will work its way up in the area tomorrow and again on monday. we have some heavy rain in the forecast. right now the temperatures are in the upper 60s, right about 70s, a muggy start today. a possible heat wave. we'll talk about 90, 930, dropping a about it tomorrow, a little cooler on monday, especially close to the coast. this is the actual heat index. it's what you do when you factor in the temperature and humidity. look at climbing into the mid to low 90s, especially from 95 to the north. a nice see breeze developing. so there's some comfortable developing. if you're there you'll see the nice weather coming n. you'll also have some rain coming in.
7:20 am
i'll talk about that a little bit. > thank you, dave. who the. thank goodness. bob till and has his fare share of fans, but one local man loves him. one local guy loves him more. what he would do with all his stuff. why officials are worried about mills of sippy cups. we'll tell you about that coming up. look at this celebration. allison wonder land. right at the which is hick kin dance academy. migrate grandfather who fought in world war ii. thanks for sharing the picture. a celebration, happy birthday to my beautiful momma.
7:24 am
what's your favorite song to sync along to. let us know. reading, good morning to you. a beautiful sunrise there. it's going to be a scorcher says dave warren. we'll get to the forecast in a minute. if you have a small child at home, the child is using sippy cups, this is an important recall. these cups look so cool but they are being pulled but dozens todd letters have gotten sink. they are made by may born usa. when you flip up the top lead there's mold that grows inside that removable valve that keeps the liquid from dump pinging out. well, about 70 children have gotten sick from drinking from the cups because there's this gross mold inside. they're called tommy tip i sippies. if you have one you can contact may borne and get a replacement and just throw it out. this is fox 29 sports.
7:25 am
good morning i'm sean bell. the ill if is have struggled in their tennessee games. they're at 4 and 6 losing some of their early season team. not a good time to face the chicago cubs. the fourth inning, adam morgan, two men on and david rot destroys this one. adam morgan only went hour in incorporates. the phyllis lose 6-2. the first quarter, the labron james and that's a dunk. they go onto win easily by over 20 points. they'll go to the finals. and the trade rumors continue for the sixes. a lot of talks have oprah from going to the lakers. one of the big time guards they can't send eckerd anywhere until

top stories in the headline. they are calling it a super bug it is in our country and, in fact, our state. there is a patient in pennsylvania diagnosed with a rare e coli infection that is resistant from antibiotics. officials say she hasn't gone outside of the country within the past five months. when we look at drug resistance the more concerned we are. we need to do a very comprehensive job protecting antibiotics so that we can have them and our children can have them. here's the big concern, this is the first case, but it will certainly will not be the only one. experts say they do expect to see more of these upper bugs in the near future. thousands of striking verizon workers may be headed back to work as early as next week. this after the company and its unions reached a tentative agreement on friday. nearly 40,000 verizon employees walked off their jobs last month. the workers were upset about the

cuts, the pensions and pay. details of the agreement so far have not been release. you know, reading terminal market is already a fun place to go. now it's even more fun today because it's time for franklin flea, flea at the reading terminal market. now, this is a curated outdoor flea market with vintage goods and hand crafted items. area tinel food, furniture. you can buy anything you want there. it starts at # 1, goes until 6. right there on 12th street across from the convention center. would the forecast maybe us want to flee into the air-conditioning. >> the radar showing exactly where that is. don't worry about any rain out there today. the not only across philadelphia, but the entire region, but the heat that's certainly here and increasing along with higher humidity. that's the thing to watch today. ultimate doppler clear right now. the temperatures are into the upper 630s and lower 70s, a very
7:31 am
warm start. if you want to do anything strenuous outside you might want to do it now and workaround the heat early or late. what we have developing is this tropical system, tropical depression number two off the southeast coast. moisture will work its way north and that will bring in some rain. really not much today. this isolate today. the hours on will stay to the north. but tomorrow we'll see the showers and storms developing and it could be here for a while starting late tomorrow and continuing early monday with that moisture hanging around a about it. so we will be dealing with some rain, just not today of the it looks like it's holding off until late tomorrow. upper 80s here today, close to 930-degrees and a little cooler down the shore where it's only in the mid to low 70s. so certainly a nice day down the shore with that cooler breeze, but don't take my word for it. let's check in life. we want to go to brad. he's in atlantic city. he has a sweatshirt on. it must be a little cool down
7:32 am

7:34 am
i have them all chronological order. and posters dating as far back as 1962. the earliest known bob dylan poster, a friend of till and's friend asked him to play in and harbor, michigan p in 196 #. if you look at the poster his named is bdillon. they didn't even know who he was. he collects stacks of books to go along with his tickets for every show he ever attended and some he didn't. 1957, 1958 and 1959. he even has dillon's high school yearbook. here's picture of robert zimmerman before he became dylan. i'm not 24/7 thinking about him or anything like. it's just a hobby i'm very passionate about it. here's 45 years worth of memorabilia, so of much that
7:35 am
it's filled his entire basement. >> it's overwhelming. it's thousands and thousands of items. what good is it if nobody sees it. > his in fact nation started with this song. from this note i knew this is where i wanted on go. a painted picture takes you back in time. a song can take you different places. this this is one that i found. > at a flee market for two bucks. the original 1963 bob till anal bum made with the original tracks. >> it can get your justs going. the internet has made it easier
7:36 am
for mitch to find these items. one thing h he doesn't have is a picture meeting him. he's a very tough guy to meet. he would probably find it a little bit of amusing. philadelphia record, fox 29 news mitch says he doesn't ever plan to sell any of of the and memorabilia. he said he hopes one day to donate it to a mu seem. >> that is so cool. a man face uses a i'm link maneuver. this isn't just an ordinary man. wait until you hear exactly who this 96 year old man actually is. a video game turns into so much

8:20 am
that will be the heat peak of day. look at down the shore here. it's into the mid 70s. it gets a little cooler as you get the see breeze developing. the wind drops, the temperature quite a about it especially right after sunset. the water temperatures in the upper 50s and 60s. so it gets little cool as the air comes in off the ocean. certainly the place to be here this weekend. ultimate doppler shows that we are clear, but maybe a few showers will try to develop in the northern suburbs here this afternoon. there they are popping up in the hey lie value. very few out here today. it is tomorrow that is the biggest concern and early monday. also moisture is moving in and that will bring in a good amount of rain starting later tomorrow much all that rain to the south with the tropical depression with a cold front approaching. we're looking at temperatures only into the 90 today, but rain developing late tomorrow and continuing through monday morning. a look at that and the seven day forecast when i come back a

8:31 am
humidity is a little l higher. you'll feel that afternoon. tropical depression, some of that moisture getting cool up into the area tomorrow. so we have to put a good chance of rain pretty much every where from the lehigh valley all the way down the coast mainly late in the afternoon sunday continuing overnight sunday to early monday. there's what it is when you wake up monday, that rain coming down heavy at times. so it will be a little cooler down the shore, but that rain will end the weekend. look at the conditions down the shore, that's sunshine, but a nice cool breeze. let's go to brad. we had that breeze many. it's getting warm now. the sun is beating down and it's feeling great. i'm certainly going to lose this jacket any moment. we were here a couple of hours, and it was dead, but more and more people showing up. this is outside the tropicana. they had a big fire display last night. i don't remember if you remember

8:34 am
bit, have a celebration going. > let's talk sports and start with the phyllis baseball. they're going through a little bit of a rough stretch right now. they are four and six out of their last ten up against the chicago cubs last night they kind of fell apart. how they took this one from the fills. it was six to two. joining me, i don't want to be a downer. the dream, the phillies, everybody talking about how they can maybe a young. we start to fallback to reality. when you have a young ball club, when you get into the summer months, july, august, 162 games, that's a long, long season. right now going against the cubs. the cubs are so darn good. going into yesterday's game they scored over 100 more runs than the phillies. 100 more runs this year. that's incredible. the cubs are actually the best
8:35 am
team in baseball and they showed that yesterday. two rain delays. my heart goes out to any phillies fan who traveled to that game and stuck it out. philadelphia fans i am one, but the kink has over reaction. we're already shipping ryan howard out of town. it's time. >> it definitely is. i said it to you last week, ryan howard last week was batting 162 and it's only gone down from there. 2008, 2009, it's 2016 it was a long time ago. talk about the young guys, talk a little bit sickers. everybody is excited about the sixers potential, but now they're talking about making a trade. we can't have nice things. we always want to get rid of them. i don't see any reason why you have to make the move right now. brian deangelo is coming in.
8:36 am
he has the mentality like we're going to go for it. i don't know if it'sing going to work. me personally i have to wait and see. there's way too am unknowns for them to start making moves. think about everything that went wrong for young guy. he had a gun pulled on him, a speeding ticket from hell:we're now trying to trade him. he averaged 17 and 7 throughout that mess. slow down, let's not trade him anywhere. for the casual fan who hey not know the specific players and things we've been discussing it's pretty exciting. it looks like we're on the up swing in philadelphia. >> in all sports? the 76 others definitely. with the no one overall pick. start getting your jerseys. been seven jersey. that's the bright side. on top of that, the union are playing tonight.
8:37 am
8:39 am
8:40 am
even that may not be enough to live in our city of philadelphia. according to the national low-income housing corporation the it's getting tough for people to afford nationally. two rent a two-bedroom comfortably without spending 30 percent on housing. the philadelphia area is even more than that. the average apartment cost in philadelphia is 1210 a month. you you need to make at least 23 to 27 an hour to live comfortably. at the current minimum wage a person would need to work 2.8 full time jobs to afford housing. i believe it. i know that the rent has gone up in the city and right now to buy it's like who the cakes. i'm always advocating for people to make more money. $1,200 a month, it seems like you can find pretty good housing without having to spend that much money.
8:41 am
they deserve getting that. they are charging that and people are paying that. it depends on the the area, the area of the city t you live in. our producer is saying his studio that you used to have cost $1,200. old city, written house, you don't have to live there. there's a lot of nice p neighborhoods. those neighborhoods are going to be super expensive. let us know about this one. should the minimum wage be raised. fox 29 yes or fox 29 no. and let us know what you think or you can always go to our fox 29 page and then you can vote on the weekend section right there as well. you might have heard we went down to the shore yesterday and we're coming to a neighborhood near you. we're going to west philly for next week june 3. that's my anniversary weekend. you can rent a car. that's so exciting when we come to all the different neighborhoods. we're going to be out there from
8:42 am
7 to 10 am a. there's the brand new car, mazda cx9. click our homepage and that's how you can do it. we are going to pick a finalist once a week and one person will get that car. register to try and win the car. here's where we'll be headed over the next several weeks. our big if i al anyway is july 22 in fairmount park. come out to see us. take a look, west philadelphia, jenkintown, northeast. we're pretty much much going to be every where. come on out and meet us. we'll be right back.
8:45 am
> in your health this morning we're talking about your pets. am of us they are like family. we love them and they love us back. that relationship comes with some real hidden benefits. let's talk with beth to talk about these real benefits p. hi, beth. >> good morning. there's all kinds of things that pets do us that we may not be aware of. studies show that they seem to be really be great at helping us cope with stress. interacting with our pet can help lower our blood pressure, lower our heart rate, lower our level of cortisol and that's the hormone that we is up when we
8:46 am
feel under stress. it can lower all kinds of. this is why the they advise any president to get a doing. >> absolutely. one of the interesting things of the study is looking into a dog's eyes or the puppy's eyes is the same benefit as looking into a child's newborn eyes. this is really strange. one study found that when we look in our dog's eyes we create oxycodone which is the sort of feel good hormone that new moms secrete when they're nursing and interacting and bonding with their babies. in other words, pet owners are sort of experiencing some of those same emotions and chemicals and all of that good stuff, thrush that you get, that new mom's experience when they're holding and interacting with their babies. you don't have to change a
8:47 am
puppy's diapers. belt gallon vin, interestinging stuff. that is interesting. thanks, guys. restaurants up in new york city are soon going to let people that are eating, diners know whether their food is overly salty. this is a first of its kind of law that requires warnings on menus that contain more than 2300 milligrams. this is really important when it comes to soups and salty things. it simply requires restaurants to post a warningment this is interesting because once new york does it then it spreads to the rest of the country. the city is going to start enforcing this role june # 6. all right. one more look as we look outside, it still looks good. dave say it's going to be who the. international airport, quiet. we're keeping up in temperatures. we'll start jumping soon with the sunshine. the humidity is a little bit higher today so it will feel a bit uncomfortable this
8:48 am
afternoon. we're fairly good. just a bit humid in the afternoon. we'll drop a about it tomorrow night and early monday. the rain could be heavy at times. we'll have to workaround that both sunday night and early monday. a little cooler down the shore and that's been the case with that cooler see breeze. easily into the 90 today with higher heat index values. ultimate doppler is clear. we have a tropical depression there, number two much it's across the southeast and the track from the hurricane center intensifies it to a tropical storm, 40-mile an hour winds making landfall there anywhere around south carolina, around charleston by sunday morning. and then it turns monday and tuesday. now the center of the storm should stay to our south, but that moisture will get pulled up into the area as an approaching cold front moves in. right now that's over the midwest. all the moisture in the air coming down with some rain, it is really looking like it will be late sunday, continuing every where through early monday and
8:49 am
then clearing out monday. the steady rain moves out and it transitions there just to a few showers by monday afternoon. so the heaviest rain will be early monday. here's the seven day forecast, showers tomorrow with that rain coming in, rain continues early monday and then tapers off and it dries out and you get p nice and comfort westbound with much lower humidity starting on tuesday. dave's favorite beer? >> it depends on the mood i'm in. but i like a nice summer alien, a light alien here for a summer who the day. let's give you some ideas. you go to the beer distributor and now if you're lucky enough and you bet the same old, same old. i know a good classic and i can rely on it. let's mix it up a little bit. let's go with some local beers. let's get some wonderful ideas. we have joe six-pack. thanks for coming in. joe is a beer con sore. there are really beers that if
8:50 am
it everything. there are so am great beers out there. you can get a beer for every single occasion. the summer, the kind of beers that you can refresh with. those are great beers after mowing the lawn or weeding the garden. i bought some beers that are more for cookouts. what did you bring? >> this is my -- let's get to it. we have the appropriate coffee cup because it's the morning. this is from sly fox. this is my go beer with any kind of food, it can pair with salads, fish, all the way up to burgers. it sounds like fancy pants. it's actually the old farmhouse kind of beer. i don't want to pour too much. watch out, guys. > cheers. so it's a farmhouse style of beer which means it's a beer that would have been made for farm workers going back centuries of ago. one of the best out there, sly
