7:03 am
it could continue overnight. s it's this line that is the concern tomorrow because that is the severe weather. these will be moving through late in the day. we'll talk about the severe weather, the damaging wind threat, the times the rains could be heaviest and of course send us what you're doing today, use the hashtag good day fox 29. happening right now, remembering the absolutely great muhammad ally. the boxing legend passed away in arizona. this morning the entire world is recognizing. a fighter that fought by a butterfly and stung by a bee. philly's own joe frazer. jenny saying she can't hear.

one of the cool perks of this place is you can eat as much cereal as you want. it's like i'm going to work to get some. alrighty. we just like cereal. we make it, eat it, love it, live it. (laughing) and now in delicious chocolate.
7:12 am
> welcome back, take a look right now at the international airport. you don't have to drive someplace to have a million fun events and activities for this weekend. we have the come confess till that's happening, a childrens festival in the city. of course the bike raise on sunday. so much to do right here in our neck of the wounds. the comic confest. i want to go to that but i'm embarrassed to admit it. there are humans on the planet that are right up the treat. moving on, after weeks of of speculation we now know what caused the death of music icon prince. toxicology results showed that he died from an accidental
7:13 am
overdose of opioid fentanyl, it's a powerful painkiller. according to the report, prince administered the drug himself. prince had a reputation for clean living had suffered from a bad hip for years and some who knew him claim he had been addicted to claim medicines for sometime. fentanyl is a synthetic ibuprofen idea. it's used to treat severe chronic pain. it's 50 times more potent than heroin. they issued a nationwide alert about fentanyl overdoses in march of last year. more than 700 fentanyl overdose related deaths were reported to the dea in 2013 and 2014. am coroners and state crime labs don't routinely test the fentanyl. experts believe the actual number of overdoses is probably significantly higher. for now, federal investigators want to know where did prince get the drug? did he get them ellie legally or a did doctor prescribe them.
7:14 am
it is sparking a huge debate. should doctors be held responsible if their patience overdose on opioid. breaking it down for us heather hanson joins us. good morning. good morning. it's a slippery slope, but, in fact, it was prescribed by a dr. should they be held accountable if there is an overdose. >> in general, the answer is no. doctors have to be able to prescribe drugs, including pain medicines. am people, especially people who have cancer need this medication in order to get through the day. the problem in these situations is, if people get addicted to pain medications, they're usually not trustworthy. they're not being honest with their doctors about how much they're using. a doctor has to be able to trust their patient in order to give the prescription. you really run into a conflict. but ultimately it's the patient who is responsible for what they're putting in their body. you're talking about 50 times more powerful than heroin, a hundred times more powerful than morphine, can a doctor trust your patient when you're dealing
7:15 am
with something that has potential foray buys? it's very difficult. most of these doctors have their patience sign a pain contract where they have to say they're willing to be tested for other drugs, willing to take the drugs as prescribed. the problem is if someone is addicted they're often going to say that they're going to do something and then they're not able to follow through. it's a terrible thing. there are situations where doctors have been held criminally and civilly liable. michael jackson's doctor, recently a dr. in h california has been held liable for murder. there are exceptions. really just giving this drug really nil i in those situations sure they should be held liable. but in general you have to remember that this drug is meant to people in severe pain who desperately need it. you can't start holding doctors liable, what you're going to find is doctors aren't going to prescribe it to those people who need it. that was my followup point. how much of a problem are we
7:16 am
creating. when you start talking about doctors being accountable, then they're also held account applable if they don't give you what you need. doctors who do this type of medicine are already on the edge of dealing with all kinds of problems. it may be easier for them to say forget. i'm not going to deal with this. if i'm going to go to jail for prescribing a patient telling me something they need. it's a very difficult thing for doctors. they do also bear the responsibility of making sure they give the right amount. to start holding them liable except in those rare situations where they're really being beyond the pail i think is a very bad idea. it's always interesting in cases we want to find fault. >> that's right. > thank you so much. we always appreciate you. >> thanks, have agria day. it is 7:16. this next story may surprise you. while we're talking about how bad chronic stress can be for your health. stress can make us stronger if
7:17 am
we can embrace it. whether it's traffic we can't escape stress it's part of life. the difference between people who are overwhelmed by stress and those who over come it doctors say comes down to resilience and how we view stress because stress may be good for our brains. research shows each time we work our way through a really situation our brains recover and then rewire themselves. look at it as a challenge. crucify doing that your brain can start to secrete these hormones that help you learn from it and do better the next time. what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. if you have something that is stressing you out right now, take i, look at it, look at how you're viewing it, take it as a challenge.
7:18 am
instead of avoiding it, tackle it. how do you deal with stress? what are your tricks? do you have any ideas? use our hashtag. >> dress makes us stronger. karen and i are really, really strong. we got this. as as we take a look at trenton, i doesn't look too bad out there. just a blue morning out there. as we look at trenton and we look at some pictures that you're sending in, it's feeding time, very little sun out there, but thank you very much. also, speaking of birds and animals we have this event happening today right here in philadelphia. hi, dave, i am from the natural sciences. this weekend, saturday and sunday we're having chilled's weekend. join us if you want to join us.
7:19 am
what's the weather going to be like, dave? i'll take your word for it when you say watching turtles hunt for their food. >> it's cloudy, muggy, but there's very little rain out there initially. later today with a little bit of sunshine about 2:00 we could see a few showers around. maybe even a thunderstorm, but it's just a chance of a shower or storm. temperatures are a little cooler this morning up into the upper 60s. it is muggy and humid and it will warm up into the 80s this afternoon. 50s and 60s to the south. temperatures are into the mid 60s. also at doppler, philadelphia clear, we are seeing a few showers developing to the west and then more thunderstorms tomorrow. the severe weather risk enhanced, that means there's a good chance for storms and a few of them could be strong or even severe. primarily it will be later in the evening. the change in wind directions as the storm approaches, the timing
7:20 am
of this is starting tonight at 11. these are just a few showers around. they could continue overnight tonight, even through the day tomorrow. you could wake up to a little rain to the south. look at how the clouds break up here just a about it. this will be about 1 or 2:00, a little bit of sunshine right there and that front moving through. that's the severe storms we're talking about with gusty winds, damaging winds and the potential there for them to be strong or severe widespread especially to the south. we'll continue to move through and be out of here by sunday evening, tomorrow night off the coast by about 9:00. behind it is calmer weather. our seven day forecast is coming our way in just a about it. > sounds good. calmer weather coming up. a great story, a local boy's bravery is touching hearts this morning after putting up a big fight against cancer he is now accomplishing a major milestone and hopes his story will impact everyone's life.
