it might have been prevented with trumenba. ask your doctor or pharmacist about trumenba. taking a look at the bridge. everything is moving pretty well, the ben franklin bridge, as people are what, coming back from the shore to get away from the storm. >> look at the boats right there. tell t us what you're doing on this day. have your plans changed at all or not really. have you just said storm swarm i'm just going to do whatever i do. haven't changed a about it. i always planned to start my morning with the best show on television. time to introduce our fox 29 athlete of the week.
7:55 am
this week we're introducing a volleyball teammate. our junior reporter introduces us to our athlete of this week. i'm zahra with the high school athlete of the week, shell biwilliams from moorestown high school. a highly energetic and competitive athlete williams has been playing volleyball since she was in fifth grade. if i had to sum her up it would be versatile. she's very good digger. an outstanding server, very good offsetter. she's got a little bit of every skill she needs. williams says it was a team comrade i that first attracted her to volleyball. i like being in a little family. you create a special bond with every player on the team and on the core. i like the astrengthen rush you get and the cheers that you hear from the crowd. coach at kin son says williams
7:56 am
is what holds the team together. her best attribute team wise would be like she's a little bit of glue. when the team needs a cheer she's got a cheer. when the team needs a tough surf she's got a tough surf. they think me almost as the mom of the team. i definitely take care of people when they're hurt or when they need someone just to talk to even. i would say i'm a very competitive person on the court. so i think that they view me as somewhat of a push towards them. williams plans on volleyball in college next year where she hopes to study physical therapy. shell pi is such an inspiration to us, the coaching staff because of her hard work and her dedication and just the love that she brings of playing the game. if everybody played with that kind of enjoyment level the score would be meaningless because everyone would get what they needed out of it. that to me is what is has
7:57 am
attracted me to shell biis how much she enjoys playing the game. i would like to congratulate you on being our are student athlete of the week. >> thank you. i would like to thank my parents, my teammates my coaches. for fox 29 i'm zahra asaid. we get to meet so am of the great athletes around the area. we can meet someone you know. if you have on one that you would like to nominate as the high school leet of the week. make sure you use our #fox29 so we can find and feature theng t athlete you recommend. stick around.cks? we'll be right back. play million in an instant from the pennsylvania lottery. and you could win... on the spot! keep on scratchin'

8:05 am
and bill. as you said, we do know ans of oner was shot early this morning. we know that he's undergoing treatment at atlanticare regional medical center at this in post office. we don't know how badly he was injured as police continue to search for the suspects involved. investigators tell us that the shooting happened in a very busy tour area a they say around 2:30 this morning. they responded to a call on arkansas avenue between atlantic and pacific avenues. officers came across a group of people. at some point gunfire was exchanged between the group and police. an officer was struck in the process. police say they returned fire striking and killing one suspect. the others took off running. police tell us right now they are still looking for the at least two suspects as police from absecon, galloway, egg harbor township, state police and county prosecutors joined the atlantic city pd to locate the people who injured one of their own. rest assured the atlantic city police department and police officers from around the county
8:06 am
have scoured the city and are doing everything we can to provide safety for residents and visitors alike. we do have a large portion of this area blocked off right now. we're sure when the it's going to reespecially on. hopefully soon once the officers are doning the investigation. city officials said at 10:00 a.m., the outlets here in the police zone are scheduled to on. they will reopen regardless of the police search. again, police looking for two people believe to be involved in the shooting that injured a atlantic city police officer. a third suspect was shot dead. the injured officer is undergoing treatment at atlanticare regional medical center. this road behind me, missouri avenue did just reopen. so maybe that's a sign that they are closing in on the suspects involved and the police scene is getting at least a little bit smaller at this hour.
8:07 am
karen and bill. thanks so much, generally. we'll keep you informed with any additional information. we're also looking at this story, police in delaware county are investigating a story that left two people injured. this is a scene in mar world oh township. gunfire erupted at westchester pike and nor ardmore after. when officers arrived they found one person with a gunshot wound to the arm. another person was graced by a bullet. no. no aregaining hurricanes in a the shing along south 29th street. someone opened fire on a car shortly after midnight. officers found at least 19 shell casings at the scene and a lot of broken glass. this happened around the 1700 block so far there are no injuries. there is a stabbing in north philadelphia. emergency crews were called out to the scene at vineyard and popular streets. it's about 16789. 15 this morning. officers say the victim was stabbed in the leg.

welcome back. we can see that areas of rain are already moving in. folks down in bet and i, delaware. if you see some, you can send us some pick p t. not everybody in our extended area is going to be getting rain on their heads. it's all about location, location, location. in back, as we take a life look at bushkill falls. maybe you're going to be in the pocono mountains for a weekend away. looking pretty good. look at the numbers on a scale of one to ten, philadelphia we'll give it an ate. it will be cloudy, but it looks like it will stay dry for most the weekend. we're looking at minor impacts, especially north and western suburbs moving toshed the lehigh value, the pocono mountains. a moderate impact once you move into interior parts of south jersey, but major impacts down
8:14 am
the shore with that long duration event. here's the 8 amtrak. you can see it takes it out to see kind of rapidly, but then it stalls and intensifies. in in can pennsylvania, back up to at least the category one hurricane early next week. we'll see several high tied cycles to get through with flood concerns across the shore. take a look at the spaghetti plots. it moves out to see, but it does several loops out to see and that will continue to bring problems down the shore. so once again it's all about location with this system. the winds are going to be picking up. look the at northern extent of the rain, moving into sussex county, delaware, some of the showers will sneak into cape may, atlantic county later on during the day. millsboro, some of rainfall moving toward row hobart beach. conditions will deteriorate
8:15 am
rapidly. cloud cover has already begun. the cloud cover, the rain picks up sunday into monday. two to four foot storm surge and the temperatures hold pretty steady in the 70s. for philadelphia it's cloudy, a break from the heat, 76-degrees. most of the rain holds off in philadelphia until sunday. back to you. thank you so much. as we're getting ready to have this topical storm descend upon us, some states are already dealing with the after effects. it blue in as a cat one category, a huge concern. they've got nearly 500,000 people without power, trees and power lines have been taken down. we know this is deadly, one man died when a fell on him. this is a hurricane to hit florida directly for seven
8:16 am
years. good morning, guys, you know, even though the hurricane didn't necessarily hit here, here in pass could he county we're dealing with a lot of localized flooding. let me show you guys what it looks like in this neighborhood in port richie. you can see a car driving away. this entire area is flooded out in a couple different directions. so in three different directions we've had cars approach this mass aive, newly created lake that's formed. we actually ourselves, our news vehicle got stuck on the other side of this last night, unfortunately between two areas because it rained throughout the afternoon yesterday, filled up around our news crew where we were going life and we actually could not get through. let's see if this car is able to. but you can see these yellow lines disappear quickly. the road here becomes very deep very quickly. emergency officials are just warning everyone it is not worth it to try to even attempt
8:17 am
something like this. what's deceptive around here there are a lot of areas where the roads seem perfectly fine and then when you get back into some of these neighborhoods, back into some of the low lying areas the water has rushed up on the roadways. this is an area that was defenses t take ited by flooding just last year. a lot of the areas that needed permanent fixes to the roads they weren't able to get those done in the one year that's passed since last year's flooding which has left flooding in certain neighborhoods for a good three weeks at a i am too. a the look of these roadways still t haven't recovered from that and then this extra water on p top of them is leading to a lieutenant of them to become washed out. the entire area is water logged because we've had sustained rains for three days now. so this water builds up quick limit it was dry most of the day yesterday, but around 4:00 as we're getting ready to go life at 5 it started raining and we actually had to move our news vehicle to higher ground several times because of how quickly this rain is able to bubble up
8:18 am
into the streets because the ground here, guys, is just so saturated. so we're following the situation. they're actually bringing in pumps to pump out this water because it's simply not going to be able to go down on its own. for the most part we have not had the kind of damage that the other parts of the state have had. although there was some reports of an unconfirmed tornado at this point in southern parts of the county. we saw a lot of downed power lines, a lot of downed trees. luckily no injuries or debts. 3300 people had to be relocated into shelters tonight. we consider ourselves fairly lucky considering what h this area has dealt with in the past from even no-named storms, guys. one of the towns we have here, obviously not nearly as bad as it is there, but people don't necessarily heed the warnings. they don't leave when they hear the storms are coming and don't stay off the roads. are people heeding the warnings it looks like they're following instruction.
8:19 am
>>reporter: people are doing a really good job of staying off the roadways and turning around when they see the barriers. we've become complacent. we've been talking about the storm for about nine days now it wasn't even given a name and we were already talking about it. people do become complacent, especially in different parts of the area. it affects them differently. in tampa, we didn't feel a lot of it, up north, as you can see, there's a lot of water out here. people know what to do. they know to turn around and they know to sandbag their homes when we tell them a possible storm, possible a hurricane is coming your way. thank you so much. you be safe. > don't forget june, october is now the who thest month to tie the not. speaking of the not, one of our faith sites. rich each is here to talk about the trends.

8:21 am
starts you can remove the cape. you we have a lot of brides who say they don't know what they start the search. the not has an app that is good for wedding dresses. can swipe through and pass on the ones you don't look. another one on the trend is putting fruit or vegetables with the flowers here are some illustrations. what have we done with this one this features artichokes. it adds a little bit of texture. it's also a space safer. you're spending less on flowers to fill the entire pow gay. >> apples, wouldn't think of it. especially for fall. it's the fall than, you can incorporate red apples for an additional pop of color. this center piece over here features classic high drain yeahs and white roses, for an

there it is, time to talk a 3 little over sports. a little l over a week l until the eagles kick off the season and we all get to find out if it's good or maybe it's bad as some thing. the birds finish the preseason undefeated but they still didn't answer am of the questions people had. sam bradford looks good, but can he lead the team. they are playing against preseason opponents. could they actually sneak in and win the division?
8:31 am
> all of the above. first all it's ex sighed that preseason is finally over. regular season football is here. of course we had temple play yesterday, tough outcome there, but the bottom line is we have meaningful football. i love this time of year what did you you think that you saw over the last four games. impressive at times. offensively i still have a lot of questions about that wide receiving unit. the guys need to step up. a lot of question marks on the opposite side of the ball. defensively i think they're going to be pretty good. if that's the way they're going to play and that's the way dug feeder son called games in kansas city they could sneak some games out. tome i roam mow going down, this division is wide open. again, this division is always up for grabs it seems. go back to 2003, 2004 was the
8:32 am
last time a division winner repeated in back to back seasons and that was the eagles. every single l year this division is up for grabs much it's a tough decision. with tony romo out that takes down the dallas cowboys a peg. who knows what the giants will do. i think the eagles could sneak up. karen is a big fan of the underdog. there is a guy who distinguished himself a little bit, paul turner. what's the scoop on turner? >> he led the league in receptions this preseason. here's what i know. this is what i was going to say. he he doesn't make the team, preseason doesn't matter. why even play these games? paul turner did everything he could possibly do to make the cut. like i said, lead the league in receptions. played really well in the four games that the eagles played. a good route runner, great hands and had a 72-yard punt return for a touchdown in the final
8:33 am
game. that's what he has to do. p if you're returning kicks for touchdowns, what else could you do? the deadline is today, right. >> the deadline is the at 4:00. we should have all our answers. > remember last year, time tea borings is he going to make it. >> now he's going to play baseball. he is doing a great job. i want to talk about emergency operations t many for one second. big rumor right now that they're out of it for the big 12? it seems like that is going to happen. >> there's some other programs out there, you know, i'm curious to see what happens inside those rooms. i don't know if money is being talked about or whatnot, but i didn't think temple had a shot to get into the big 12. how do you see the season playing. >> i'm not trying to jump on them because p they would have won we would be going case i right now. no. they lost. it was a bad game.
8:34 am
army came in and pushed them all over the field. double digitpoint favorite. tough loss. i went and bought all of the left over demarco murray jerseys that had number 29 on the back and we're putting all of our names and twitter tags on the back so we can rock it during the season. they dropped from 1 $20 .9. big spender for my people. thank you, sean. we'll he ' have scott williams wearing one of them pretty soon. i gotcha one. > let's talk about this weather along the parkway. you can see made in america setting up. they're ready to go. it's going to be cloudy, dry for your sat in and around the philadelphia area. by sunday, though, some of the showers could be moving in. as we look at the latest particulars on hermine we're talking about a 60-mile per hour
8:35 am
storm. movement raising from the north, northeast at 21 miles per hour. rapidly moving now, but it will eventually slow and stall. also, tropical storm warnings are still in effect for much of delaware and much of jersey down the spots. look the at the spaghetti plots, it does loop deloops. we'll zoom in a little closer. you can see approaching lewis, row hope art beach, moderate to heavy rain. how are we talking, a shortcut off. not a lot of rain, lehigh valley, pocono mountains, down the shore we're talking over three inches of rain. we'll be right back with more on hermine. come on duck! (puppy barks) you can do it duck. hurry up duck!
8:36 am
8:38 am
welcome back. as we take a life look at a cloudy sky and we'll have some rain moving in down the shore, but maybe not, depending on where you live. scott will update your forecast in just a moment. can you feel it no matter where you are, summer is winding down, a chill in the air so it's time to prep for fall. we have glenn vic tied cycles from marshal services. thanks so much for joining us. we're getting ready for the pennsylvania ultimate doppler. what do we start with. it's also a perfect time to get

8:40 am
get up on the roof, check the gutters and make sure they're clean. install the gutter card, it helps keep the leaves out of your garter. i just got my gutters cleaned the other day. do you like gutter guard? do you like them. >> they work at my home and i live in the woods. a couple other things, at night is going to be cool according to the weather. we want to turn on our heat on now. we're not go to need the heat that much. get it turned on and make sure it's working rather than waiting to have a break down. what the haikais this? when we talk about having the precision opportuneup done we want to make sure we get electric chronically started. this this is a gas tester. >> it is. > where do you put h this. >> we put it in the furnace. it measures the gases and the temperatures. it gives us a real, good expert look inside to make sure it's working properly.
8:41 am
s ' for people that i would higher to do that. >> yes. > you also brought me the thermostat. what's with the thermostat. >> do you know what the dryest place on earth is? > where. >> the desert. > i thought you meant in my house. > okay. it's 17.6 percent humidity in in the desert, right? an average home now with forced air heat can less than 10 percent. so we want to make sure we put humidity back in the home in the wintertime. >> it safes your furniture from shrinkage. i never thought about that, shrinkage. obviously clean the fireplace and the chimneys out. we want to make sure we have our him mys and fireplaces cleaned it on. it's a perfect time to safe money. >> we like to safe money. how do we do it. >> quickly, fuel programs, if you have propane or oil heat, right now is the time to buy your oil heat because now is the cheapest price. it's only going to go up in in the winter.
