this morning on good day, a somber day marking 15 years since our lives and the world changed forever. as fox 29 and the nation remembers the lives lost on september 11th, 2001. how the country and our area is honoring our nation's heroes. ♪ good morning, everyone, it is of course september 11th on sunday. welcome to "good day philadelphia". today is a day that we remember and recognize sacrifices in a day that changed us forever. >> absolutely. bill g morning to you. >> good morning. good morning to the williams. >> good morning. >> i want to take look at lower manhattan where the new freedom tower has risen. we have picture there from the memorial the 9/11 memorial the

garden of remembrance that we have there. so many people will be gathering today as they have over the last several days. we're also going to have live reports from washington, d.c., and the pentagon and remember the people who also lost their lives as heroes who fought back against the highjackers in shanksville, pennsylvania. so we'll have all of that on this day. as we look at the weather there in new york. let's take a look, scott, at the weather right here in our area. >> of course, we've been dealing with the oppressive heat and humidity. we hit 95 yesterday, karen, but winds of change frontal boundary will be moving through over the next several hours, dropping the temperatures and lowering that humidity. take look at weather by the numbers. scale of one to nine for your sunday, we are going to give it a nine. so much improved weather across the delaware valley as we look at those headlines, yeah we're talking about winds of change with that front. heat relief for today, even taste of fall in the seven day forecast. ultimate doppler we're dry, quiet, still very humid, though, for your sunday morning if you're stepping outdoors to walk the dog or have that cup of

coffee it is still going to be pretty muggy here's the front in central pennsylvania. it will be moving through over the next several hours. temperatures will be dropping. the dew points will be dropping and, of course, that humidity will be lowering. 79 right now philadelphia. 76 in millville upper 70s in allentown so once again still kind of warm and muggy across the region but off to the west, look at those temperatures dropping. 50s right now in pittsburgh. and low 60s in buffalo. so once again some of that cooler air will be moving in during the day. as you plan your day we're looking at lunch time temperatures around 83. 86 for the afternoon high temperature. 80 at 7:00 o'clock. across the region, 84 down the shore. 84 in the lehigh valley. big kick off forecast browns versus the birds. we're talking about mostly sunny by that time frame, kick off temperatures right around 1:00 o'clock at 83 degrees. back to you. ♪ good morning, everybody.

pan over we can see crews setting up for the remembrance ceremony which begins about 8:30 this morning. it will mark chronologically the events of 9/11 and honor the victims us a said with music and prayer. here some images we have from you from last week -- last year's event rather. about 18 people from bucks county were among the 3,000 killed when terrorists highjacked and crashed airplanes into the twin towers the pentagon and a field near shanksville, pennsylvania. including one of the pilots of one of those planes his widow as well as loved ones of other victims helped establish the garden of reflection here. now every year they host several events on 9/11's anniversary. last night community members and survivors family members held a prayer vigil here and this morning again remembrance ceremony will be held tonight a candlelight ceremony as well will also be held. decade and a half after 9/11, a focus of organizers and attendees here has been passing

on to children and teens grew up in post 9/11 america so either too young to remember 9/11 or they were not yet born. but it's important to pass on to them what happened that day. and why it's so important to never forget. again the ceremony starts about 8:30 this morning. that's going to be followed 7:00 o'clock tonight with candlelighting ceremony. we'll be back here in just about an hour as we continue to get closer to the ceremony of course we'll bring you everything as it happens. back to you. >> thanks sabina. we know you'll keep us n. there are on the events in our area to remember the september 11th attacks. at 9:11 this morning, they'll be a heros run 5k in pennsauken to honor the sacrifices of all the heroes of september 11th. at 10:00 right here in old city, philadelphia fire commissioner adam thiel, police commissioner richard ross and prison commissioner branch carney will lead a memorial ceremony at the betsy ross house. police in paper pell shade, new jersey looking for man behind a string of disturbing robberies many times targeting

people who are older going into their home. it already happened tower times in just 10 days. here's what the suspect has been doing. knocks on doors and in some cases he walks in and asks for something. sketches are so similar. maybe water. he says, maybe i'm selling meat. investigators say, several of the sketches they have all compiled them were never the home own are in isn't looking he grabs something that he sees of value and walk out. he took one woman's purse after coming into the house uninvited. >> i was sitting on the piano so when he backed up into the pia piano, his arms were behind him, he just pick it up, and when he walk out the door, his back wasn't towards me. >> in one case he made off with more than $800. the police in maple shade say he may have gotten away in light colored pickup truck. in pennsylvania prosecutors think say the state is overrun with reports of child abuse. there's been almost a 40% increase in the number of reported cases of abuse and staff is overwhelmed by the rising workload.

the 2014 legislative overhaul of the state's child abuse law expand the definition of abuse. which now makes more adults legally responsible for reporting suspected cases. 7:08. police in wilmington, delaware, had a spike in car break ins and thefts of a specific kind of car. so they're warning drivers keep your valuables out of your cars or at least out of sight. employees say people are damaging or removing windows to get inside cars and they take off things like with gps devic devices, ez passes, sunglasses, even loose change. apparently they're targeting new model audis. 70:00 agent major break through that coned the fighting in syria. >> syrian government accepted an agreement by the u.s. and russia calling for a nationwide cease fire that would start tomorrow. this comes after more than five years of war including recent air strikes in the northern part of the country that killed at least 40 people. u.s. and russia announced the deal yesterday and under the

capitol and take a look at this image. the american flag draped over the side of the pentagon as we await a memorial event that will take place a little bit later this morning. as you mentioned, president obama is expected to attend today's memorial event, and he will join the families of victims that were killed here in the terrorist attacks 15 years ago for movement silence. that will happen at 9:37am. that is the precise moment that the plane struck the pentagon 15 years ago. the president is also expected to make some remarks at this ceremony to honor the 184 people that died here at the pentagon when american airlines flight 77 struck the building. now among those victims, of course, were many children the youngest just three years old and again just in a couple of hours we are expecting this memorial ceremony to take place. reporting live at the pentagon, alexandra limon.

i'll send it back to you karen and bill in the studio. >> thank you, alexandra. you know, it's interesting when you look at that and we're continuing to reflect after 15 years. a lot of stories to share today. we'll see how it continues to touch people. one thing that is impacting people the house of representatives have approved a bipartisan bill that would allow the families of the september 11th victims to actually sue the government of saudi arabia. the senate already passed the measure by voice vote in may but president obama threatened to veto then saying it would complicate diplomatic relationships with the key ally. supporters denied the bill interferes with the sovereign immunity of other countries and acts of terrorism deserve to be exceptions. >> we must correct these erroneous court decisions so that anyone who facilitates a terrorist attack on our people can be brought to justice. let me be clear. this legislation does not prejudge the mer wrists any particular case. it simply ensures the 9/1 9/11 families or anyone who makes may

face the same situation can plead their case in court. >> 15 of the 19 highjackers are from 9/11 were saudi nationals but saudi arabia denied any rolls in the attacks and has never been forma phormium it wil indicator. joining us buys skype attorney heather hanson. good morning, heather. >> good morning, bill. >> as you sit there and hear about this piece of legislation my immediate question is it just symbolic on the 15th anniversary of september 11th or could it actually have some impact in families being able to sue foreign and sovereign nations? >> it absolutely could have some impact. i don't think it's just symbolic. first of all there's a huge amount of money at stake. i mean the fact that saudi could actually be held responsible for this and have to pay civil damages could be huge. more importantly, though, i mean these families are looking for answers and oftentimes our justice system is the best and only way to get those answers. so for those people to get more discovery, have people actually

sit down for depositions and have to answer questions about what happened and what type of planning went on, i think that it's really important to them. with that said, president obama is in very difficult position. because this opens the door to a lot of problems for us internationally. >> the reason i suggested or asked whether or not it's just symbolic is because, yes, that information and even going through the legal process could be significant. do we even have the ability to hold sovereign nations accountable even if you get a judgment against them? >> well, i mean, that remains to be seen but the truth of the matter is, there are other situations where we do sue other governments. mostly commercial, mostly when it has to do with trade deals and if they have balked on trade deal we're allowed to sue them. there are ways to recover will the international courts hold other governments responsible,? that remains to be seen because this has not yet happened. the other issue is, that it opens us up to being sued, and especially with all the things in the news about drone attacks,

it's definitely slippery slope in that many times we could be held response al for things going on in other countries. >> that was my next question. because saudi arabia obviously denies any involvement in 9/11. one person's terrorism is interpreted by others as individual acts certainly not government enforced or government endorsed, excuse me. how do you go through the process of proving that when most nations are going to deny involvement with terrorism? >> well, that's what the court system is for. i think that the senator one of the comments he made this doesn't comment on the merits of the case, and that's going to be decided by a judge or jury in this case. but what will happen is the evidence will be laid out and not only the people involved in the case but all of us will hear what the involvement of the saudis was, why these plaintiffs, why these victims families believe that there's a case there. there's a chance bill this case could be thrown out because there's just no evidence. but this law a laws the victims of this and any other terrorism

fox 29' is that so bean in a kuriakose is live there in bucks county with more. good morning, sabina. >> reporter: good morning, bill and karen. the ceremony takes place in just about half an hour and you can see behind me people have already started to arrive and fill up the seats here. now survivors as well as victims family members will speak and read poetry. 18 people from bucks county died in the 9/11 terror tax. we have moments from last year to show you as we await for this ceremony to begin. now, 15 years later, after the events of 9/11, part of remembering and honoring the victims includes passing on that painful legacy of the day to children and teens not yet born or just too young to have their own memories of 9/11 and that's what ceremonies like this morning's remembrance at the garden of reflection. we spoke this morning with 14-year-old. he's a volunteer here and every year since he was 10 he says he came. he comes to help set up and organize the annual 9/11

anniversary ceremony. his father witnessed the attacks and cj says he is doing what he can to honor those killed. >> he just said there was smoke outside the window and they couldn't really see anything and once the smoke cleared up there was like burning papers, they went outside and then they just saw the towers were down and, you know, it was a lot of confusion at the time. they didn't really know what was happening. but, you know, they said once they realized it was just -- it was tragedy and, um, you know, i come out here every year to just honor the families and honor the victims who lost their life. it's great to see how many people come out here from all over the county and just participate in this event, and we can all stand together help the people that lot of family members. >> reporter: every year since he was 10 years old in fact out here live. you can see what cj was referring to already so many people out here gathering for this event and even as we speak

update on story we told you about on good day yesterday. police identified the man they say barricaded himself inside of a home in cobbs creek prompting swat teams to come in and take over. police were called out to 200 block of south millick street after 24-year-old kadeem nelson allegedly assaulted his mother and when police got there to the scene, they say he began shooting at them and one of the bullets hit his sister. officers returned fire striking nelson. he then went back into the house and swat teams were called out to the scene. they arrested him without any further issues. the extent of his injuries and his sister's injuries is not known. major break through that could end the fighting in syria. the syrian government has accepted an agreement by the united states and russia calling for a nationwide cease fire that would begin tomorrow. this comes after more than five years of war including recent air strikes in the northern part of the country that killed at least 40 people. the us and russia announced the deal yesterday. under the terms of the

agreement, the countries will work on military missions together to go after isis and al-qaida in syria. this is an absolutely unforgettable day for 13 children who from the east falls area they live in abbotsford homes. they got to go to the white house as part of the developments annual youth summit. that's where people that used to live there and then they've become successful and have careers come back and help the kids and model for them a future that's possible. so there were lots of great messages coming from the kids who are about to get on the bus. >> barack obama, please can you get me into harvard? >> i mean, i love washington, d.c. i really like politics, and hopefully when i grow up i can become president. you never know. >> so one of the people he used to live there that a ranged for this whole trip to the white showers now a civil rights attorney with the us department of justice. nice way to give back. 8:10. tonight in atlantic city the 52
