♪ >> this morning on good day following multiple developing stories on the top left of your screen new surveillance video showing normal night in new york city turning terrifying. dozens of people were injured. following an explosion that the mayor up there of new york bill diblasio was calling an intentional act. >> it come the same day as video that you see on the top right of your screen. a 5k charity race in seaside park ocean county canceled after a pipe bomb exploded along the course. and of course, on the bottom of your screen we're learning a lot more this morning about a rampage in west philadelphia that left a woman dead, several people including two police officers shot and gunman also dead. who police say planned to go out and hurt as many people as possible. thank you for joining us on this sunday, september 18th. i'm karen hepp. >> i'm bill anderson. let's begin with the investigation into that blast in

new york city. we'll take look at surveillance video from a gym near the site of the explosion. witnesses say the blast blew out the windows of businesses and scattered debris in the area and fox news is reporting that sources say a second device was found reportedly a pressure cooker. fox's jackie ibanez has more. >> reporter: a powerful explosion rocking lower manhattan saturday night injuring 29 people. the blast shattering windows and forcing the closure of several blocks. the explosion shot jolting a bustling neighborhood teaming with restaurants, bars and pedestrians. alarming city what has been pretty calm weekend evening. authorities are unsure the cause of the explosion and are exploring various possibilities right now. new york city mayor declined to answer whether the cause of the bomb in dumpster. >> there's no evidence at this point of a terror connection to this incident. this is preliminary information. >> reporter: the blast happened around 8:30 in the evening in front of 135, 23rd

street between sixth seventh avenues. people seven blocks away reported hearing and feeling loud boom and nypd has video of the explosion and it's collecting more video but would not discuss additional details of the investigation. >> the early indications, initial indications is this was an intentional act. we'll have lot more to say in the coming hours as we have more detailed analysis but we believe at this point in time this was an intentional act. >> reporter: nypd officers including members of the counter terrorism squad are on the scene along with fbi agents and police helicopters with essential lights. police searching for more potential explosives and nearby streets are closed. >> i heard boom, boom and everything started shaking. and there was big mounds of smoke and people started running. >> reporter: white house officials say president obama has been briefed on the explosion. in new york, jackie ibanez, fox news. also, developing this morning, horrifying police radio calls a gunman on a rampage,

ambushing a philadelphia police officer inside her patrol car. >> i'm i'm had the mcdonald's off first street. help me, please! >> not far away in west philadelphia, a university of pennsylvania officer is down and four more people are shot. cornered the gunman shoots it out with police. the officers take him down. >> okay. let's get some supervisors out here and shut this area down please. >> here's what we know this morning. philadelphia police sergeant sylvia young remains in the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. she is expected to recover. the up cop 13 other shooting victims are also recovering and pleases still have not identified the 25-year-old woman shot outside her home in west philadelphia. but we are learning more about the gunman. a man police say had a long criminal record. let's get tout steve keeley live outside penn presbyterian

hospital where sergeant young is recovering. good morning, steve. >> reporter: let's leave with the important people first and that is all five of the shooting victims wounded are still here at last report from philly police at the hospital. that includes the man in the car with that young girl killed, two people on the bar entrance area shot as they helped patron in wheelchair and the two wounded police officers. and even though police released this picture of the shooter, that they admit they may never get a clear picture into the mind of 25-year-old nicholas glenn, who averaged more than two arrests year since he turned 18. so lots of mug shots like yearbook photos every year, lots of arrests mostly for drugs. his last lawyer and foster mother say prison time made him seem more troubled each time. but never to police or people who knew him and talked one lickly so far say there were any hints that he'd act out like this. >> the envelope was actually entitled "doomed" and he was

referring to anybody who would be in his path other than the rantings that he had in that letter, we don't know again what this was motivated by. we unfortunately may never know in this case. and we just hopeful that everyone else survives their wounds. this is horrific night. i'm not just talking about the physical part of it but the psychological as spec of it, t too. this is the united states of america. this should not happen in this country. it's just the bottom line, you know, and this is not an indictment of anything, i don't get political. i'm just saying this is a country where we have to do better with gun violence. >> reporter: zone as we've seen already, a couple of times this year, starting with the first time, someone with a gun and with a mindset to assassinate philly police officer in january the police commissioner has ordered no officers on the street streets n patrol vehicles mounted or bicycle or motorcycle without a part inner loop as you take our live picture, police are now

doubling up as they say on the street and that's why they are starting right here partnering for sergeant sylvia young. they'll be a police officer here at the hospital all times until she gets out of here and we don't know had that will be, but as police now have two incredible cases of survival, latest hers being shot 18 times and still able to call for help and still alive thanks to those who guys showed up to help her and the surgeons here at the hospital. bill, karen. >> absolute, steve, thank you so much. pennsylvania governor tom wolf was responding to the violence in west philadelphia. he said in part "this is a reminder of the danger that those who seek to keep us safe face every day and we are thankful for the law enforcement personnel who put themselves in harm's way to protect the people of our commonwealth". make shower to keep it right her on fox 29 news. we'll continue to follow all of the developments of this ambush both on air and online fox29.c fox29.com. scary night continued. another blast that left people nearby shaken up.

this time at the jersey shore. the bomb went off in this trash can in seaside park right before a charity 5k race yesterday morning to benefit military veterans. runners would have been passing by at the time but the race was actually delayed. so amazing follow one was hurt. the area was put on lock down and the event canceled. the beach there remains closed and authorities are not yet saying if this is a criminal act or an act of terrorism. >> we're working closely with our federal, local and state officials. we're out there conducting interviews, we're out there securing evidence, and we're making sure that there's no stone left unturned. >> as i said the investigation continues but so far police have not made any arrests. given all of that let's take live look at the ben franklin parkway that's where we have a major race that's about to take place in our city thousands of runners will be taking part in the rock and roll half marathon today it begins over at 7:30 and we have confirmed they made some hider tendon security along the course of the race in the back of everyone's mind is of course

what happened at the boston marathon. officials declineing to into any specifics about some of the security measures they're taking but they did release a statement that reads "safety is all our number one priority and as such we have been collaborating with the local authorities and agencies to ensure a safe environment for all those involved". let's take break from that news and find out what's going on with our weather. scott, they do have the marathon planned to continue. will they get good weather for it? it. >> looks like it will be cloudy and muggy but stay dry but certainly that humidity is up from yesterday, bill. as we take a look at the weather by the numbers on this sunday, scale of one to 10, we will give it a seven, because those temperatures this morning are kind of muggy and also we have the clouds. but we don't necessarily have the rain. it's still off to the west. most of the day will be dry but it will be cloudy. live look right now at the philadelphia international airport showing you kind of cloud cover out there. a little bit of patchy fog. 71 but look at the humidity. up there at 90% already. so as we focus on the rape fall

rails. make sure you have the current timetable because there are fewer cars on all of the lines. and joy the rest of the day. i'll see you back here bright and early tomorrow morning. we kick it off at 4:00 a.m. 7:10 is the time right now. there was also another incident last evening where police were fired upon. >> and this one started over a question about marijuana use on south street. >> police say late last night just before midnight police say they smelled marijuana and they saw two men that seemed to possibly be using that at about ninth and south streets when the officers approached those men that's when they say the guys ran away. police eventually caught up with the men and one of them started shooting at an officer. luckily investigators say no one was struck. >> we have two days in a row we have miracle. we have police that have been fired at on the streets and in both instances the police officers have survived. it is a miracle that the police

were able to arrest these two suspects without firing, discharging their weapons. >> investigators found the gun at the scene and those two men were caught and arrested. on the news 7:11 in center city. two-year-old man shot in the arm. this happened just before 3:00 this morning at 15th and market right near center square. the man is current until stable condition over at hahnemann hospital. so far no arrests have been ma made. and in port richmond, police are investigating after three people were shot overnight outside of a nightclub. this was about 4:00 a.m. they were call out investigators were to the castor club located right along the 3000 block of castor avenue. that's where they say they found two people shot in the leg. a third person struck multiple times who is currently in surgery at this hour. police say no arrests have been made in that case. a 30-year-old man is in the hospital this morning after the car he was driving smashed into a building along east erie

avenue and d street in north philadelphia. police were called to that area just before 4:00 a.m. investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash. we do know that the man fractured his leg but we're unsure at this time of this exact condition. all of the stories and all of gun violence prayers to end some of this gun violence right now. there was vigil last night for eight-year-old girl killed in the crossfire of gang violence at her city, and her killer still on the loose and they would like justice. so many friends and family and just the whole community came out to remember gabbie hill carter in camden. this was vigil that came just one day after prosecutors arrested a woman accused of of providing a false alibi for possible person of interest. someone who police are looking for investigation in connection to this murder. if you know who may be responsible there's lot of money in connection with this case. a seventy five $76,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to little gabbie's killer. scary night of conflict and

it continues. a minnesota mall is closed today after last night a man goes on rampage. >> stabbing several people. what investigators say that man asked customers as he was about to attack. it is horrifying. you think some parents take it too far and post way too many pictures of eighty four children on facebook? some do. what if you were the kid in question? coming up we'll tell you why one woman may have a case against her parents claiming that they're over sharing on social media. ♪

>> we're following a developing story out of minnesota this morning. eight people stabbed in a shopping mall in saint cloud, minnesota, by a man police say was dressed in a private security uniform. those eight people all had non non-life threatening injuries. at tack kerr was shot and killed by an off duty police officer. police say the manmade at least one reference to allah and asked at least one person whether they were muslim but police aren't calling this an act of terrorism saying that the motive as of this moment are unclear. 7:16 is the time. we want to again your opinion about this. did you ever get tired of seeing your friends post all the pictures of their kids on facebook? well imagine how the kids are going to hate that in about 15 years. there is a girl, she's 18 years old, from austria, fed up with all the hundreds of pictures that her parents have posted on facebook over the years and and she's so fed up she's suing her own parents.

she's repeatedly asked them to take down the pictures which show her potty training, laying naked in beds child. her attorney things the photos violate her right to privacy. there's court date in november woman this happen here in this country. attorney lisa garber joining us this morning. >> good morning. >> good morning. how are you doing? >> so good. what do you think about this by the very nature, you know, sorry media means it's social and not private. >> it's not private exactly. even if you alter your privacy settings or only have couple friends, by definition social media is public. so this is really interesting case i think it says light on the fact there's a new study that came out says that parents who have children under the age of five will have posted over 1500 photos of their kids up to the age of five. so it's a little terrifying. i don't think we realize how these digital leg gas cease are going to stay and they're comprehensive they're not going anywhere for kids that grew up in this digital age, under 18, you have those embarrassing photos your parents are consta

constantly over sharing potentially. it could be a problem down the line. >> you know what happens we know in europe they're much strictor when it comes to rules about pam razzie and your privacy d that make big difference because they do have more avenue right to privacy like does chef a case here, say, this is -- it's my life that's out there and i want to be private? >> of course. europe is definitely more privacy centric. us focuses on the fir amendment and freedom of speech, and freedom of expression and in europe actually the french government recently pass add law that said that people including parents who post or distribute photos of someone without their consent so parents who do this of their children could be fined 45,000 you're rows are put in prison for year. this is not something we're seeing in the us right now. we haven't seen this exact scenario play out in the courts. the u.s. with that first amendment centric policy still now there is this ethical legal issue because there is a right to privacy one of the rights to privacy that we have in the us is that we have a right to privacy in our private

woman shot outside her home in west philadelphia. but we are learning a whole lot more about the gunman. a man police say had a long criminal record. let's get right out to steve keeley who is outside the emergency center there at penn presbyterian with the very latest on all of this. good morning. steve. >> reporter: well new york surprise and i'm sure the citizens of this town will be happy to see that every philly police officer in this area when they get break they're spending it here at the hospital to check on their colleague maybe to visit their colleague and make sure that they can do anything they can to lift spirits and, boy, that colleague probably lived every philadelphia police officer's spirits when you hear she was shot at 18 times and is still alive to talk about it. so philly police officers again out here at the hospital as they've been every minute since this occurred friday night. so the focus here at the hospital on the six wounded survivors, four random people going out you about their lives

when shot. two police officers going about their duty. but back closer to the crime scene, the focus is on the family of the 25-year-old woman killed shot seven times in the chest at close range as she just sat in car on friday night out with a friend. not knowing that 25-year-old nicholas glenn was casually strolling down sansom street toward her after already emptying his semi-automatic handgun and reloading a couple of times already. >> our next door neighbor, unfortunately, um, it's -- it's unfortunate and it's sad. her father came home, um, early this morning and fun out unfortunately. >> you mean to tell me nobody noticed his demeanor, that he had these hate issues. that's impossible for them -- for just no one not to know nothing about this man. >> reporter: not only are neighbors asking that question you can bet a lot of philly police officers are as well and police say as far as they know

for sure, for now nothing in glenn' long criminal history in his short life showed any leaning toward a violent sudden outburst of a shooting spree like this. 16 arrests as an adult over seven years mostly for drugs. got him and in out of prison obviously it did not get him rehabilitated but hardened and hating law enforcement. karen and bill. >> steve, it's so disturbing on so many ways it makes your heart hurt on every level. thank you. we appreciate your reporting. also following developing story out of new york city this morning. an explosion injures nearly 30 people and sources are telling fox news there was a second device, a pressure cooker also found. police are calling this explosion an intentional act. but they have rule out any terror connections. it's not clear had was behind the blast or what motivated it. ♪ let's check in on the weather as we take look the race is getting ready to start right there in front of the art museum and there they go. it is just starring. that is the rock and roll half

marathon that's taking place. scott, so far so good with the weather. it will hold up for them, yes? >> the rain will hold off, but the cloud cover is out there are bill, and also it's very humid. so that could be an issue for those runners. stay hydrated out there. humidity right now right around 90% across much of the area. so that will make for a tough race. you can take live look right now outside. you can see kind of hazy sunshine. we have the cloud cover. we also have that humidity feeling like pea soup on this sunday morning. 71 in the current temperature. look at that humidity high this morning at 90%. we have 70 degrees currently wilmington upper 60s in trenton. low 70s right now allentown and reading. so it is going to be a warmer day. off to the north and west, we have that cold front that will bring us some rainfall. but it looks like most of the rain will hold off until late tonight and then tomorrow morning for that morning rush looking a little wet. in fact as we go hour by hour, most of the day dry. a couple of spotty showers north and west. then overnight tonight and then by tomorrow morning, look at the

after 33 years workin working te streets of philadelphia as an officer. so even though police released this picture of the shooter, they admit they may never get a clear picture into his mind. 25-year-old nicholas glenn averaged more than two arrests year since he turned 18. so they have lots of mug shots like this one. almost like yearbook photos year by year. lots of arrests though metally for drugs. nothing even close to violence like this. his last lawyer and foster mother both said prison time seemed to make him harder each time. and never to police or people who knew him and have spoken publicly about him say were there any hints that he'd act out like this. >> the envelope was actually entitled "doomed" and he was everything to i guess anybody who was going to be in his path. other than the rantings that he had in that letter, we don't know again what this was motivated by. we unfortunately may never know in this case.

given the gravity of their injuries and what could have happened, it's a great sunday morning that the sergeant and eddie miller are doing well and we're hoping the next day or so they'll be home with their families which is absolutely amazing given what transpired the other night. >> how long has she been on the force? i know she has family. what can you tells us about her. >> she has been on the force 17, 18 years. she has several children of her. most of her family was with her at the hospital the other night. all indications are she is the rock of that family. she's who everybody in the family looks to for support and looks to for some guidance. there's been some issues as most families go with illness recently and she's been the one that everybody went to and everybody counseled on. so they are extremely happy that she's still with them. >> is she up and talking right now? >> she was -- i saw her about an hour after the shooting. she was that and talking then.

>> what did she say? what was she talking about? >> she was just glad to be with us and could not understand the magnitude of what had happen. those police vehicles are so small. they look big but it's such a compact area. with computer there and with a screen behind you that if you have that many shots fired into that vehicle it's a space i can't tell you how small the space is. it's miraculous she wasn't hurt or killed. >> the commissioner was talking about signing partners for all of the officers doing things to make sure you're safe. what suggestions do you have? none us want to see this type of thing continue to happen. how do we keep the officers safe? >> it's a dangerous job. police officers that do this job whether it be us or our counterparts over at penn it's a dangerous job. we know it's a dangerous job. we walk in to it knowing what the dangers are. this -- this coupled with the incident back in january, there's an assault mindset on

police throughout the country. particularly in philadelphia and particularly in southwest philadelphia. i don't know how you change that mindset. police officers generally don't get involved in the political end of it. we do at the fop. the whole cull kerr has to change. people have to respect police. people have to appreciate police and i work in that particular area. i work in district for lot of years. the people out there love their police. the vast majority of people out there love the police. they want the police there. there's cooperation. it's a few individuals that want to harm police and for an individual to load themselves up with ammo and weapons and leave a note of hatred for police, we got a real problem here in america went got real problem in philadelphia. we need to fix those problems because police are here to help you. as you see, um, even after one of our officers was gunned down, police officers ran into an

alley with an armed individual to take that individual down. they took that individual down to protect society as a whole. it's really unfortunate that this individual hell bent on going to hurt police took a life, took a civilian life, and injured several other people who were just out enjoying the community on a friday night. >> this conversation obviously will continue. but i think it's also worth noting that the community were witnesses, the community stepped up and showed their support also. so a lot people who demonstrate wad your saying, that love and support for police in the neighborhood. security i believe at a local bar stepped out and tried to be helpful as well. >> yeah, it's a great community out there. i worked out there for almost 15 years. it's a great community. um, as whole, they support their police. but there's an element out there, and i guess we'll be looking into criminal justice system. there's an element out there with certain people that should not be on the street. that individual should not have been member of the southwest philly community. that individual should have been

was hit. >> we have two days in a row we have a miracle. we have police that have been fired at on the streets and in both instances the police officers have survived. it is a miracle that the police were able to arrest these two suspects without firing discharging their weapons. >> investigators did find a gun at the scene and those two men were caught and they were arre arrested. and more violence in center city. 22-year-old man was shot in the arm. police say this ham just before 3:00 this morning on 15th and market right near center square. the man is listed in stable condition. he's over at hahnemann hospital so far no arrests in that one. and in port richmond, police are investigating after three people were shot overnight outside of a nightclub. this was about 4:00 a.m. police were call to the castor club located on the 3000 block of castor avenue. there police say they found two people shot in the leg.

a third person struck multiple times who's currently in surgery. police have not made any arrests in connection with that one. their-year-old man is in the hospital this morning after a car he was driving smashed into a building along east erie avenue and d street in north philadelphia. police were called to that area just before 4am. and investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash. we do know that the man fractured his leg but we're currently unsure of his exact condition. we just discussed at least five cases of gun violence in our area. there was vigil last evening for an 884 old girl the face of some of the violence of gunfire. she was killed. friends and family and community remember this little tilde child gabbie hill carter she died in camden. her killer still hasn't been found. they're looking for her. this vigil came one day after prosecutors arrest add woman accused of of providing a false alibi for person of interest. someone who police are still looking for in connect with this murder investigation. if you know anything, they are begging the community to please
