just kicked off, those runners, they were bundled up because feels like temperatures have been dipping into the 20s and 30s. current conditions right now in philadelphia right around 39 degrees. so yesterday's high 72 degrees. we have a remind you about this dramatic drop. i mean it real sal shock to the system this morning we're waking up to temperatures in the 30s. 39 degrees right now in center city. feels like temperatures right around 30 degrees. still kind of gusty at well. we have 38 right now millville. 38 in atlantic city. mid 30s in pottstown, but factor in that wind how you should dress, how your body reacts it feels like 29 in millville. 29 what it feels like in atlantic city, and 26 degrees in pottstown so weather by the numbers scale of one to 10, it is going to be a three today. feeling like winter. we'll go hour by hour. here's the bottom line. by 9:00 o'clock, right around 40. 47 degrees. that's should do it for the high temperature this afternoon, but feels like temperatures in the

30s much of the day even the threat for few flurries far north and west. don't forget about that philadelphia marathon impacting some of the road closures across parts of the delaware valley we'll talk much more about that during the broadcast. back over to you. >> all right. thank you so much. as you said happening right now, scott, people from all over the country are in philadelphia this morning participating in the 23rd annual philadelphia marathon. jenny joyce live in fairmount in the middle of all this act on this really cold sunday. hi, jenny report gore morning, lauren here from all over the country also here from all over the world. i was talking with a man earlier this morning from ethiopia. they're releasing the next segment of runners in just a moment. they were waiting to put up the start banner because of the win that's a weather condition that these runners going to have to deal with this morning. we have video of last year's race people hitting the pavement traitrailing through our seat cy treats the route takes runners

through several city neighborhoods, fairmount park, manayunk, university city, old city, right near our fox 29 studios, and back up to the finish at the art museum. so this year one big change, the half and full marathons were split up on different days. so the half marathon was yesterday. today is only for these runners who are committed to a full 26.2-miles. however, each year, the full weekend's worth of events welcomes a total of roughly 30,000 runners. 60,000 spectators and 3,000 volunteers. a lot of people packing this area of the city which means heightened security screenings and a number of street closures. citywide that will remain through mid afternoon. so a live look here as you can see these runners bracing for another 26 miles here, lauren, i don't know about you but yesterday my facebook feed was filled with many of my more ambitious friends proudly

smiling with their medals after completing the half marathon. we can expect more of that today as these runners head to the finish, we are told that the first finisher is expected to wrap up the race around 9:00 o'clock this morning. we'll be there to see that and show it to you. >> jenny joyce, thank you very much. >> let's take a look at top stories much police are investigating the stabbing avenue man overnight. police say the 37-year-old was stabbed in the back and shoulder along third and south in society hill. it happened just before 2:30 this morning investigators say a group of at least three men were seen running away from the scene. the victim was taken to jefferson university hospital. he's in stable condition. police aren't sure of a motive and are still looking for whoever is responsible. a man is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the arm and leg. police say the shooting happened around midnight near 13th and west allegheny avenue near temple university's health sciences center. the university tweeted out a message for students to avoid that area. the man was taken to the hospital and is currently in

stable condition. police are still searching for the shooter. also, in north philadelphia, fire crews were able to quickly put out a fire at a home along north 27th and west cab bot streets officials say no one was inside the three-story house at the time. the cause of that fire is under investigation. new jersey state police say woman was killed when her car collided with a tractor trailer on 295 in cherry hill yesterday. the truck was park on the shoulder near mile marker 34 when the woman rear ended the truck and investigators say she was rush to the hospital but died a short time later. the truck driver was not hurt. police are still trying to figure out how the woman crashed into that truck. this morning, we're following these developing stories as the search continues for a deadly hit-and-run driver, an eight-year-old girl is being remembered by her loved ones. powell's favorite colors were pink and purple her family friends released those colorful balloons from the location where she was hit and killed by a car on friday afternoon at 63rd and lansdowne. the second grader was walking

clues that may lead them to the shooter. and more violence in northeast philadelphia. police are searching for a man who they say stabbed his brother and sister on the 7200 block of large street. the suspect stabbed his is there in the hand, his brother in the head. the brother was able to run aw away. female victim is in stable condition. police are still looking for that suspect. ♪ president-elect donald trump continuing to choose members of his cabinet as he prepares for his post which becomes official two months from today. today the billionaire is set to meet with governor chris christie and other prominent republicans during a series of meetings in new jersey. the president-elect and christie are due to talk at trump's golf course in ben minister. initially wasn't clear if the governor would attend the meeting after he was recently demoted from the head of trump's transition team to just vice chairman. trump is speaking out against the treatment of vice president-elect mike pence at a show of hamilton yesterday morning on good day we told you pence was booed by the audience of the hit broadway show and

♪ 7:14. man is dead after being shot and killed by police officers in new york city. >> why you have to kill him! w why? >> distraught sister 21-year-old erickson gomez brito we're talking about. police say they were called out to brooklyn saturday afternoon for reports of a suspicious man walking around a building which happened to be where the victim's aunt lives much police say one of the officers removed his baton but the suspect grabbed it and starte started oh assaulting them. that's when police shot and killed him. family members say the man was on medication and suffered from drug addiction a few years back but he has not any problems recently. the officers are in the hospital in stable condition. more than 30 years after it happened, the move bombing and the resulting fire are parts of

philadelphia history. it all happened in neighborhood that's now home to abandoned blighted boarded up houses but all of that may be about to change. fox 29's hank flynn has that story. oh, yeah arc lot of people -- >> jackie cooley was behind the wheel of his blue cadillac when he found out courtesy of neighbor gerald renfro all these years after the move bombing and a fire that wiped out a neighborhood city hall fielding redevelopment proposals for osage avenue and pine street one block over. >> all the houses are fairly, you know, new, new piping, everything. love to have new people in the community that would enjoy, you know, a nice home. >> reporter: as block captain, gerald was probably first to know. >> well, i tell you, first of all, i was overjoyed. >> report roar globe i was overjoyed. i was out working and my wife connie said we got an e-mail from mr. heller the executive director of the redevelopment authority stating that the

request for bids are online. >> reporter: gerald has been pleading with city hall for years to do something, anything about the houses on osage avenue. that's where philly police ended in 1985 standoff with the radical organization move by dropping a bomb on the house in the middle of the block. 11 people died including five kids with more than 60 to uses demolished in the fire that ensued. the houses were rebuilt but not very well. >> one fellow i talk to has been on the block for more than 50 years said there's a good reason these houses are deserted. crack in the walls, bad piping. the the city half assed when they rebuilt it. for it to be anything at all it will all have to get torn down again gerald says that's been the message from city hall for years because but he says it's simply not true. he called the army corps of engineers. >> they came out unofficially, we took them on tour of the houses, and they were able to

determine that for $20,000 or less these houses all could be individually brought up to code. >> reporter: per unit 20,000. >> 20,000 per unit. >> reporter: saving the houses could be what happens. the city owns the boarded up properties but the others are privately owned and they're connected but the city's request for proposals also includes language as demolition and new construction options should remain on the table. >> is that something that gives you pause or gives you any cause for worry at all? >> well, we would object. >> reporter: the city also asked that developers be respectful of the area's challenged history and to avoid or prevent work that would adversely affect private properties like gerald's but when city hall created the situation with the bombing, and butchered the aftermath, how do you like the odds of their fixing things now? tweet us at hank fox 29 or at fox 29 philly.

live look at the parkway as the philadelphia marathon is underway. you can see some runners there near the bottom of your screen. they have 26.2 miles to get this all done and some really chilly temperatures. speaking of that, thousands of runners scattered throughout the city it's the 23rd year people have flock to do our area for this big event. this is the first time the half marathon and full marathon held on separate days. the half errs ran yesterday completing 13.1 today. today the course for the full marathon 26.2. philadelphia marathon officials say runners can expect the courses to be totally revamped from the previous years. penndot and pennsylvania state police are teaming up to make sure kids are safe in the car this holiday season it's called operation save holiday. state troopers will be looking out and giving out tickets for seat belt and child safety seat violations through decembe december 4th. pennsylvania state law requires kids under four to be in a child safety seat and kids under two to be in a rear facing car seat.

temperatures stuck in the 40s. we're looking at that afternoon high temperature right around 47 degrees. by dinner, temperatures around 40. we could have a few snow flurries far north and west as we watch that blustery front continue to move on off to the east so it is going to be chilly. that weather authority seven day forecast a high today 47. as we move toward monday, temperatures only in the mid 4 40s. by tuesday it's 49. we're looking at temperatures for thanksgiving in the low 50s and there could be a couple of showers toward the latter part of the week. we'll keep you posted much back over to you. >> families across the country sit down for thanksgiving dinner on thursday when family gets together there can often be tension and especially since it's the first post election gathering. my twitter and facebook pages i asked if you would skip thanksgiving because of all the political talk and difference of pins. people sounded off. michael said when off chance to be with family it's about creating memories not tension over political views. john says, family comes first.

politics is perception. it turns on dime. but family is forever. and frank said, i'm looking forward to the mashed potatoes to go crying flying across the table. avoid any flying food and flying tempers. we brought in heather hanson a mediator and an attorney who appears on our show very often. had he low, heather. >> hi, lauren. >> how are you? >> i'm great. how are you? >> good. so a lot of people are a little nervous this year rightfully so about thanksgiving dinner. some of tips for us. first you say remember why you love someone. >> that's right. we think that we have to like someone to understand -- understand someone to like them, when in reality sometimes it takes liking them or loving them first. you need to remember all of the reasons that your aunt who has different political views than you actually is someone that you love. maybe she knitted i was sweater. maybe she takes care of animals. if you come at from it that place you're less likely to get angry and let that emotion take you over. >> okay. tell me what you mean when you say be present.

i know sort of what that means normally but for thanksgiving dinner evening be present. >> listen, it is so easy especially with politic being what they are right now to get carried away in the moment, and to forget that you are actually talking to someone that you're supposed to love and that you're going to have to spend time wi with. politics come and go. family is one of your viewers said is forever you need to remember to stay in the moment rather than getting carried away in this whole story that there's a winner an loser hasn't has won and who lost want does that me mean. you need to be sitting there and try to remember to listen and be present in the moment. one thing, you know, that's important we've talk so much about what to tell our children about this election, we need to think now about what to show them. and if you can be present during an argument i think you're showing them that you can disagree with family members without hating them. >> you sort of just touched on this one. win or lose, who cares? >> well, that's right. i mean the election is over. you know when we mediate cases it's usual particularly trials here the trial is over. you either had a candidate who won or lost but that doesn't

mean that you are a winner or a loser. you are a winner or loser for how you deal with the repercussions of it win your family within your group because ultimately we're all in this together. >> that's true. and then, listen more, talk less. we can't do enough of that. >> that's right. it's so easy i moon you got two ears one mouth for reason, right? so easy to think that you need to out talk your opponent. but in reality, if you listen, you may actually find some understanding. there's a lot of misunderstanding around reasons why people voted for who they did. if you listen you may find some understanding and that may be the first step towards actually resolving your issues. >> okay. heather, do you think humor works in case like this or is this just too soon and too sensitive of a topic? >> i think it's depends who you're dealing with. i think humor is wonderful way to disarm people if the person on the other side is ready for it. the problem is timing. the election wasn't that long ago. people are still trying to resolve their issues with it. some people are still mourning. some humor might be a little too soon.

lauren i'm not running the race so i'm feeling pretty good right now. however, all is pretty quiet right now. the runners moved past us. we're live along the perimeter of the route. we'll head over to the finish line so we get the runners as they cross by eakins over closer to the art museum. let's take look at the start of this race. >> and they are are off. runners from all over the world here in philadelphia for the marathon a full 26.2 miles through several city neighborhoods fairmount park, manayunk, university city, old city right near fox 29 studios, and back up to finish near the art museum. this year, one big change. the half and full marathons were split up on different days. however, each year, the full weekend's worth events welcomes a total of roughly 30,000 runners. 60,000 spectators and 3,000 volunteers. a lot of people packing this

>> thank you so much. >> let's take look at our top stories today. right now police are investigating the stabbing avenue man overnight police say the 37-year-old man was stabbed in the back and shoulder along third and south in society hill. it happened just before 2:00 their this morning and investigators say group of at least three men were seen running away from the scene. the victim was taken to jefferson university hospital in stable condition. police aren't sure of a motive and are still looking for whoever is responsible. a man is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the arm and leg. police say the shooting happened around midnight near 13th and west allegheny avenue near temple university's health sciences center. the university tweeted out message for students to avoid the area. the man was taken to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. police are still searching for that shooter. also in north philadelphia, fire crews were able to quickly put out a fire at a home along north 27th and west cab bot streets. officials say no one was inside the three-story house at the time of the fire. the cause though is now under investigation. new jersey state police say a

♪ scott gave us a little snow a little early. let's take a look at some of the top stories happening this morning. thousands of runners scattered throughout the city participate in the philadelphia marathon for the 23rd year in a row. people have flock to the area for that event. this is the first time half marathon and full marathon were held on separate days. yesterday and today. philadelphia marathon officials say runners can expect the courses totally revamped from the previous years also causing some traffic troubles out there on the street streets. our very own sean bell late arriving to the studio this

morning. penndot in pennsylvania state police are teaming up to make sure kids are safe in the car called operation save holiday. state troopers will be looking out for and giving out tickets for seat belts and child safety seat violations through decemb december 4th. pennsylvania state law requires kids under four to be in a child safety seat. kids under two nobody rear facing car seat much kids four to eight need to be in a booster seat. university of pennsylvania will conduct a drill today to simulate a mass casualty incident. 60 student members the school' medical emergency response team will go through an exercise that will test their response to set up a command and triage post there. and they'll treat and transport patients to simulation will take place this morning at 10:00 a.m. at the penn novation works site on the 3400 block of grays ferry avenue. >> ♪ all right, scott, it's chilly outside. >> it really is. 72 degrees yesterday, right now we're looking at ultimate doppler flurries, flakes across parts of the delaware valley.

in particular the pocono mountains, moving toward lehigh valley. a little flurry activity kind of moving through montgomery county through philadelphia into parts of south jersey but that activity is diminishing so it is going to be cold if you're stepping outdoors. it's a shock to the system. yesterday felt like spring but that blustery cold front now out to sea. calling it a sunday shocker. we still have the wind advisory in effect through tomorrow morning at 6am for gusts over 40 miles per hour morning wind chills in the 20s afternoon wind chills kind of stuck in the 30s. you can see the wind it is blowing right now westerly 22 miles an hour. 40 degrees in philly. but it feels like 30 right now when you factor in that wind. 39 currently in wilmington. we're looking at numbers in pottstown 35. 39 right now in atlantic city. but it feels like the 20s north and west. the teens right now feels like 14 in the pocono mountains.

not going to make wage above monday mum wage. and she got to me. >> reporter: program also breaking stereotypes for some that believe that struggling is just about being lazy or wanting an easy way out. >> very first day of the septa strike, i got and e-mail from sponsoring agent to this program with these two guys saying, don't expect nem to come. they probably will be walking over 5 miles. they were here before me and they've been here every day. >> reporter: jeremiah is one of the people in the program who says it's changing his life. >> this program right here means pretty much everything to me. it's actually a way for me to get an apartment and eat more than noodles every night, so you definitely need something that you can make more than minimum wage with. >> reporter: although he didn't identify himself as veteran the program helping veterans was clearly important to him. >> make a sacrifice for them, because of course everybody should know they made a sacrifice for this country and

yesterday to today. we've been warning you about this change all week long. it is finally here. the sunday shocker take look at that cold front out to sea. blustery winds of change. temperatures right now wilmington 39. we have mid 30s in pottstown 20s right now in the pocono mountains but those are the air temperatures wait actually feels like in the poconos right now, 14 degrees. it feels like 25 in allentown. feeling like 30 right now in philadelphia. so cold and blustery for the philadelphia marathon indeed we have 31 right now in wildwood as feels like temperature so air temperatures stuck in the 40s. 43 at lunch. we're looking at 3:00 o'clock temperatures right around 47. so that seven day forecast it's going show temperatures kind of stuck in the 40s not only today but into monday even colder we're looking at a high of 45 tomorrow. dress for winter headed back to work and school. by tuesday we're looking at 49 low 50s on wednesday. into thursday turkey day gobble gobble we're looking at
