7:11 am
7:12 am
mariah carey starting the holiday season off right, a all i want for christmas with a live look at center city, philadelphia. we have small business saturday happening today. expecting a the lot of people to flood the streets. the holiday shopping season can be a stressful time, crowded malls and stores leave no parking spaces while the philadelphia parking authority is making easier to get around
7:13 am
this holiday season. the ppa is offering parking specials for people up until new year's day. started this weekend all metered parking will be free on saturdays after # 1:00 a.m. the agency is also offering discounted rates of 8-dollars on weekends at six parking garages between the hours of 11 1 # and five. and now we also want to talk about when people are out shopping, we know that there are several dangers when you're out at a mall. we have crowded malls, busty streets. we have dangers and fiscal dangers. how can we stay safe this holiday season? >> certainly. my number one goal is crime prevention r. i was on the the mall with my daughter. we were door busters on friday. i'll be out today at small business saturday. we want people to be safety and to protect themselves against identity theft. when you're out, use your commonsense.
7:14 am
park your car in the best and the most well-lit part of the parking lot. if you go shopping, you get your bags, p put them in the trunk, don't believe them on the seat where people can see them and possibly steal them. don't walk around with your keys leaving yourself to possibly be susceptible to being car jacked. show the children what the security guards look like at that mall so they know that they can go to that person in that uniform as opposed to some random stranger making themselves susceptible to being kidnapped. also you want to think about ways to prevent your credit card numbers from being stolen. we don't want you to separate yourself from the credit card. if you go to the bar, don't give it to the bartender to open an tab. don't separate yourself. don't allow people to look over your shoulder. you may be waiting in line with your credit card in your hand. don't do that.
7:15 am
you may consider getting a debit card or a credit card for certain amount in case somebody gets the numbers. your only loss will be the amount on that card. shoulder surfing is really a thing. >> shoulder serving, that's correct. it's hard to imagine that people can get that close to you and actually make out the numbers. all types of saims. people will send you an e-mail letting you know there's this great discount at this store, but you have to reserve it with your credit card for only 10 percent down. if did you didn't research something or send an e-mail to someone first, watch out for all these scams where people are trying to get your driver's license, your credit card number, your date of birth over the internet. you have to protect yourself. you also have to consider having things that you order online, of course, save the e-mail confirmation of the purchase.
7:16 am
have it maybe delivered to your place of employment as opposed to maybe delivering it to your home. >> that's always a good idea. >> where it's left on your door step or on the porch where unfortunately too am people help themselves and have a very mere i christmas at your expense. back to the credit cards, we know skimming is a big issue. >> correct. > how do you know if there is a skimming device? >> you really can't in many ways. what you need to do is you need to keep all of your receipts from december, november and january, of course. you might also want to contact one of the credit bureaus and have a fraud alert set up for your account just in the event that there is some huge -- someone purchases a motor vehicle in bangladesh, it might not have been you. you can refute the purchase. last question for you, bags stealing when you're going out shopping and maybe you have dad or mom sitting on the couch in the mall waiting for their child to wrap up and close their eyes
7:17 am
for one second and the bags are gone, people pick backing in the back of your purse. >> i was almost guilty of that yesterday. waiting for my daughter i had the bags between my feet and i almost dosed off. this is one of the things i need to tell people b. you need to stay awake, keep your belongings near you. i had to get up to give my daughter some money while she was in the store, i brought my bags with me. even though i thought the people next to me were nice, don't trust anyone. > have a happy holiday. >> you, too. > now we're going to get back to the weather. people who are going to be off for small business saturday, what are we going to be expecting. >> maybe a medication tour of sunshine and clouds. we're starting out with a lot of clouds out there. you're not going to see the prettiest sunshine. the international airport behind me which you'll notice the camera become around a little bit as a testimony to the winds starting to increase and today we'll have some gusty winds, 10
7:18 am
to 15 a miles per hour on. >> a. you go north to west, even some wet snow flakes north of i80, this is into the poconos, higher elevations, not a big deal, but certainly some controversial snow you get well to the north. here's a live shot in old story, temperature 43 degrees. winds coming in at 9 miles per hour. that's going to equal p up. that's why you have a temperature coming in at 48-degrees. north and west that's the coolest spots as you get up towards mount pocono at 45-degrees. as you get into trenton 41 degrees, 46 as you get into the jersey shore. there's the wind spot to around 10 miles per hour. there's not much happening in the weather department. center of the country looking pretty good, but if you are travelling out towards the pacific northwest down across say san francisco, la there's going to be a big storm in here. this is going to role ashore. expect some airport delays in the next 24 to 46 hours.
7:19 am
otherwise our airports are going to be controlled by this temperature. heats month the coldest mass for this time of year. we're seeing 20s and 30s, that's not a big deal, but it is going to be a little l chilly in comparison to the last couple of days. there's the band of snowstorms. the daytime getting to middle and low 50s. yesterday was middle and upper 50s. not much fan fan from that. 20s north and west into the 30 #-s and then a much chillier day for your day on sunday. we'll talk about the temperatures and how we may actually make a run again for maybe 630 degrees. we'll talk about that coming up in a a little bit. > thanks, mike, we want to update you on some breaking news. police are on the scene allege the unit block of river road following someone firing a gun at officers. this happened around 56789. 30 this morning. we know the swath team has been

7:23 am
the eagles welcome the four and 6 green bay packers on monday night. don't let that record fool you, the packers are still a very dangerous team with a lot to play for. aaron rogers, we all know him, he's thrown for 25 touchdowns, good for second in the league and packers wide receiver jay gruden did i nelson is also second in the lead with nine. there's a lot to fear when it comes to the green bay packers.
7:24 am
their offense looks good. it's the same aaron rogers that i'm used to seeing. the moves they're having big place, they're moving the ball around. they have a bunch of people sold in the offense, so i don't think there's any issue on the offense. there will be a big challenge on the defense. > we need a big win on monday. what do you think about that? >> i absolutely agree. monday night football all eyes on philadelphia. > she agrees, the new york rangers and the number one scoring offense rolls into town. verse the flyers, the rangers goal i, still one of the best, mr. hen curriculum chris. a l some id game by all would be needed. a solid battle between these two teams, brandon pure rechecks into the wall. he's having none of it. sticking up for his teammate, giving him the right and the left, giving him the business. the flyers got their punches in, the rangers unfortunately will
7:25 am
get their shots. the rangers up 1-0. who scores past team mason, the flyers go onto win 3-26789 to the hardwood, the sixes, that's right, the sixes have won four out of their last five games at home. you heard it right. no mistake about it, the bead is powering the stretch. only one problem, the sixes have to find someone to replace the points because illinois bead was a no load due to load management. busy day for the wells fargo crew, sickers down six, robin lopez with the miss, bobby portis with a huge dunk. third quarter sixes down 13. dewayne wade with the pic though those 34 year old legs. the sickers lose 105 to 89. preseason mit championship game,

sex abuse scandal. if you missed out on black friday shopping, don't worry. >> i did. > man. you'll still be able to get deals on sib beer p monday. what sites you need to visit to get the best holiday deal. > taking a look at some holiday gathering on good day. it is late. so glad to hear it. i am thankful for my new vet. my hero. thank you so much for your service.
7:30 am
we are following some breaking news h this morning. police are looking for someone who fired a gun at police, fox 29 sabina contrary coast is live in roxborough. what have you learned. >>reporter: good morning, general p any. right now details are still sparse, but sources do tell them, they do confirm this is an active shooter situation. take a look. down this very steam hill, there is a ton of police activity. swath teams are on the scene along with the fire department and police. this all started at 5:30 this morning. we're going on about two hours. as you mentioned, reports of shots fired at police. this is river road in rocks bore on. we're actually just down the hill from a school here. it is closed for the weekend. septa service has been suspended, regional rail,
7:31 am
norristown to manayunk, they're telling me that is of course because all of this police activity. we did get initial reports that whoever this suspect is may have been somewhere in the woods surrounding this area. but again details right now still coming in. still pretty sparse so we're working on it. but again sources are confirming to me right now, this is an active shooter situation. we have reports of shots fired at preliminary we are still working to get more information. again, this is river road in roxborough. that's the very latest right now, back to you. >> thanks so much. > also breaking, former cuban president fidel cas could he e toe has died. has could he has been in poor health since 2006 with intestinal issues. building a communist state most known for the bay of pigs invasion in 1961 and a crisis a year later. he passed the power down to his younger brother in 2008.
7:32 am
fidel castro was 90 years old. > morning and let's take a look at weekend wendy. let's take a look at the forecast. if you're going to go get a christmas tree, not bad. a mix tougher sunshine and clouds. one thing you're going to notice is the breeze is going to pick up. a breeze go into a windy afternoon later today. right around the 78/80 correspond do. not a big deal. most of area just seeing clouds this morning. you can see mostly cloudy skies on p to of us. we will mix it up with the sun this afternoon and the sun will allow us to get into the middle and lower 50s. 35 in mount pocono, a little bit milder as you get down across the shore points where it's 46-degrees in atlantic city. westchester is at 40-degrees. you get up to doylestown, 37-degrees this morning. winds are going to be a factor certainly to this forecast. 15 to 20 on average. we'll talk about your seven day forecast where there's actually some 60-degree weather in it. that's coming up in just a

little bit. and we are following a developing story this morning. penn state says it won't fight a nearly two and a half million dollars fine stemming from a five-year federal investigation spurred by former assistant football coach jerry san dusky's arrest and conviction on child assault charges. penn state says it will pay the fines even though it disagrees with some of the findings. they say penn state failed to comply with parts of the act including the clear i act. joining us this morning is heater hanson. can you first explain about this clear i act. >>reporter: sure. back in the 1990s a woman was killed at lehigh university and in response to that this act was passed to make sure any acts complied on campus are reported
7:34 am
so they can make a knowledgeable decision as to whether or not to go to a specific school given the crime in that area. we're learning that of course the crime comes as a result of the jerry san dusky situation, buffer, the bulk of the fine had nothing to do with jerry san dusky. can you put that in perspective and explain what that means. >> sure. they're supposed to report the crimes, they're supposed to report whether they reported any crimes to the university police and the county police. that's what penn state wasn't doing. only about $200 had to do with jerry dusky. once the government started looking into penn state they found these other violations. there's a report going on at other schools, but they have not been found. we understand that penn state
7:35 am
says it doesn't fully agree with the fine but it's also not going to fight the fine. why wouldn't they fight it? >> the smart thing is one of the potential punishments is that the federal government to pull financial aid. that would be the death threat. you want to make sure there's financial aid. rather than fight it i think they decided to pay this fine, put it hundred them. the president was pretty adamant that these are old issues. penn state takes great pride in the fact that they actually complied with the clear i act. i think it's better to put it aside and go from here. attorney heater hanson. thanks so much. one woman hit the ground running in philadelphia, but she's not doing it just for exercise. wait until you hear what she's running with and her heart-warming mission. plus, are you prone to nightmares. what you shouldn't do before bed if you're someone who has bad
