>> jermaine is a subway driver and he loved the job but he told me about the darker days, every subway drivers nightmare, someone jumping in front of your train and being killed. this happened to jermaine in august of 2009, he was pulling into a train station in queens when he saw one on the platform walking and just as he was pulling up she jumped. he said the whole experience was horrifying. >> she was walking on the platform and then she jumped in front of my train. >> i put on the emergency brake, about four cars down i happen to find her underneath my train. >> he got out of the train and saw the woman. >> the lady was her, she was bleeding from her for head all the way down. she just wanted to be alone. she

wanted to die in peace. >> he call for help and they are able to extract the woman. >> they came and took her from underneath the train. the expense was horrific. >> it has haunted him ever since. even to this day. >> that night when i went home there was a thunderstorm that night. lightning, every time the lightning would flash i would see a vision of her. that has stuck with me day in and day out since the accident happened. i think of her very often. >> he was so haunted by this woman he would see her two or three times a week. he would see her in his sleep. he sleep. he ended up having to go to a psychologist and work through the issue. three months later he was able to go back to work. >> it was so frightening and scared at work. i more conscious of everyone on the platform. especially those very close to the platform. coming in with the train with my fear -- >> but then april of this year a drunk person was teetering

around the edge and fell. he got off the train and followed the blood trail. >> that is how i found him. i followed a trail of blood and found out where he was located. seeing a bone sticking out of the man's arm was not an everyday occurrence for a train operator. >> this time he survived. i asked jermaine why not quit? what you still do this job? >> it was a dream of mine since i was little kid. i wanted to be a train operator. i did not want to give up my dream. i wanted to start a career and and my career as a train operator. >> he wants to retire as a subway driver and he still has 15 years to go. >> so on balance he loves his job. >> minus a psychological problem associated with it. >> that has got to be horrifying. i can imagine. >> obviously suicides do happen but over one third of the subway deaths are accidental.

it is storming and storms are actually the reason why i am here. around 100 feet of a 100-year-old railroad track here on the beach have surfaced from shifting sans from a storm. they had been buried for decades. before that they made a brief appearance for a couple of days in 2014. there is a sand is a sand plan here that operated from 1905 until 1936. the mistry tracks use to transport sand to company for processing. then there is at least 100 more feet of beach into the delaware bay which is pretty crazy when you think about beach erosion. you can see the trains were not really writing on water as they would b be doing if it were goig on today. robert l wirth had copies of aerials from the old plant. you can see them hand written from 19 oh eight he brought them over to me and we check them out.
