this morning on good day, watching for wintry weather system moving into our area has the potential lead to messy morning commute to start the work week. plus, people aren't letting the bitter cold temperatures outside this morning keep them from trying to get their hands on the hot toy of the holiday season as people line up to score hatchimal. and the kick of a lifetime one man, one chance to nail a field goal and within some major cash. good day to you on this sunday december 11th, 2016. >> from the fox 29 studios, this is "good day philadelphia" weekend. good morning, everyone, welcome to "good day philadelphia". sunday the weekend edition i'm bill anderson with the fellas. >> how is it going. >> good to have you back, bill. >> i appreciate sitting in for minute. lauren is off. she's chilling a little bit in the cold weather.

north and western suburbs we're talking norristown, doylestown, moving towards the lehigh val along witness pocono mountains that's where we have winter weather advisories. they kick on this afternoon and continue through 4:00 a.m. for those locations north and west immediate suburbs but then you can see those 6:00 a.m. for berks county parts of lehigh valley, them 9:00 a.m. for the pocono mountains that's monday morning. so we're looking at about a four for today weather by the numbers. temperatures this morning kind of cold. so across the area for today, 30s that's it with the threat of flurries. more on the timing of that snow coming up. here's bob. ♪ good morning everybody. good news for the gang in lansdale opening up the e-z pass on-ramps today up at the lansdowne interchange of the pennsylvania turnpike. they have the off-ramps set off you can get on lansdale without takintake toll. e-z pass takes care of that. new regional rail schedules kick

responsibility for the bombings but the interior minister is saying 10 people have been arrested in connection with the quote terrorist attack. investigators want topping what sparked awry type refire in south philadelphia overnight. this is how it look in the 3100 block of pass young avenue. you can see it. smoke billowing into the air at the philadelphia energy soluti solutions. firefighters spent about an hour battling the blaze before declaring it under control just before midnight. they did have to drain some fuel to keep it from feeding the flames but thankfully no one was hurt. a man is under arrest following a robbery in northeast philadelphia that left a person in stable condition in the hospital. it happened about 5:30 this morning at torresdale avenue and plum street in the city's frankford section. police say a man enter add home there and stabbed the person inside in the head and torso. 35-year-old man is recovering at hahnemann hospital this morning after being shot in north philadelphia. gunfire rang out just before

2:00 a.m. near 24th and ridge. the victim was struck three times in his left leg. medic rushed him to the hospital in stable condition. so far no word on a possible motive or any arrests. ♪ solemn remembrance in wilmington for lieutenant hope. fire chief anthony good posthumously promoted her from senior firefighter to lieutenant at her public memorial service and funeral. hundreds of people in the community indued concluding, family friends and fellow firefighters gathered at the chase center in wilmington to celebrate and honor her life. it was the final goodbye for hope who died december 1st after being badly burned figh fighting a house fire back in september. she was remembered as a fighter who was devoted to her community and cared for others. >> arty was intelligent, a caring person who's life revolved around service to oth

others. arty embodied the true meaning and spirit of a hero. it's up to us to preserve and to learn from arty's story and her memory so that we ensure the enduring support and gratitude for our first responders. >> two other firefighters also died in the fire captain christopher leach and lieutenant jerry fickes. prosecutors have champed a woman who was staying at the home with arson and murder. 7:06. two grocery store owners are in the hospital after an armed robber stormed into their business and now police are searching for clues that will lead them to the gunman. police say a man tried to rob this grocery store last night along the 6700 block of market street in upper darby. the armed suspect came into the store and demanded money. two of the store owners were insider at the time. some words were exchanged between them, and the robber and that's when friends and family say the suspects just started shooting.

>> one guy was shot in the chest. the other one got shot not leg. >> it's pretty scary whole when it happens to someone that you know and like known all your life so yes, it's very scary. >> police say that one of the shooting victims is in serious condition. the other is stable. investigators are hoping that surveillance video from inside the store will help identify and locate the shooter. ♪ in political news, president-elect donald trump continues to build his team as he prepares to enter the white house. a ledge of the 16 cabinet positions have now been announced however one of the most coveted positions secretary of state that position is still open. former new york mayor rudy guiliani announced he has withdrawn his name from consideration. yesterday mr. trump met with exxon mobil ceo rex tillerson at trump tower. that was the second meeting they've had. mitt romney and former cia director david patreas are also still considered on the short list for that position.

or a sales event? the season of audi sales event is here. audi will cover your first month's lease payment on select models. sales event ends january 3rd. ♪ welcome back. former congressman chaka fattah is scheduled to be sentenced tomorrow. federal prosecutors are seeking 17 to 21 years for the former lawmaker who was convicted of racketeering. prosecutors say fattah obtained an illegal $1 million campaign loan in 2007 for his run for mayor. four others were also convicted in the case. all right. the los angeles city attorney has filed suit against four major retailers for deceptive advertising. he's taking legal action against may see's sears, j.c. penney and kohl's claiming they posted fake discounts. so the suit accuses the retailers of listing high regular praises for items that were never actually sold at that

price. all to mislead consumers into thinking they were getting a big discount on sales. they actually weren't getting. joining us this morning to break it all down is only she can attorney heather hanson. good morning. >> good morning, bill. >> all right. heather, tell me what's going on. they were getting it for the price that was advertised. they just thought it used to be more expensive? >> yes. you go to the store to buy a shirt it says used to be $30 now it's $15. you're like great this is a sale i'm getting a deal to buy it for $15. it never was listed for $30. they're using psychology to make you want to buy these things you're more likely to buy when you think you're getting a deal much that's against the law especially in california where they have really strict laws on this. and so the city attorney is saying you can't do that any more. >> so it's against the law because of what they're saying it used to cost. because you are -- you are getting, you know f you thought it was a deal, it's stale deal it still costs what they're advertising it for. >> that should really good point.

what's your damage? what are you actually losing because you're getting what the thing is worth. but the argument is, i would not have bought it at all if i didn't realize i was getting such a deal. part of the value for me was that high of feeling like i was getting a deal. so that's where they're loud to bring these types of cases and that's where the city attorney is allowed to file suit. in california, the thing that you're buying has to have been listed at the advertised price within the last three months. so the shirt we talked about if it wasn't $30 within the last three months, it automatically against the law in california. >> it's not against the law he here. so i'm guessing, i'm going out on limb here, heather. what probably seeing a lot of that particularly this time of year. at least in our area. >> i'm sure that that's the case. listen, there are class actions civilly for this type of thing, in fact two of the company j.c. penney and kohl's, have been sued before for this. i think that a lot of stores do it. it's certainly manipulative. fake things all over the place, fake prices, fake news and

trying to focus in on what's real here. but when it comes to buying thing you want to really research whether or not you're getting a deal or whether this thing is actually only worth what you're paying for it. >> i wonder. there's been all kinds of jokes moving it a little bit to the fake news phenomenon that's going on in society right now. i wonder if we're going down a slippery slope when you start suing people for psychology or for using terms or things that may not actually have been i guess factually correct but no damage. >> well, that's the thing. when it comes to fake news you can't sue for a bunch of reaso reasons. one is -- the other is what what's your real damage? i mean people could argue they wouldn't have voted for a certain person if it weren't for fake news but it starts to become a difficult argument that the law is not going to want to take on. when it comes to pricing though, bill, you know, a fake price might motivate someone to spend money that they weren't otherwise going to spend. and so some places like california are very strict on it.

monday morning a wintry mix to all rain area wide. so as we watch what's happening on ultimate doppler, a couple of flurries off to the west. a lot of this not making it to the ground. the atmosphere is still relatively dry. but take a look. north and west the purple highlighted counties that is where we have the winter weather advisory that kicks in around 1:00 o'clock this afternoon and continues through early on your monday morning. so planning your sunday another cold start we're looking at temperatures only topping out in the mid to upper 30s. 37 the afternoon high temperature in philadelphia with a couple of passing flurries not out of the question. mostly cloudy skies. weekend wendy is headed to the game. she's going to be bundled up, cloudy and cold and once again there could be a passing flurry. temperatures will be in the 30s. so it is going to be cold at the linc. mostly cloudy skies throughout the entire day today. a couple of flurries but not whole lot of moisture really until the overnight. north and west by six, 7:00 o'clock mainly the poconos mountains we're watching for

>> got the christmas music going. taking a look at the art museum. everything looks so festive and comfortable when you're inside. a little cold outside. stay inside and watch "good day philadelphia" weekend. let's take look at some of the top stories. the roof of a crowded church collapsed on to worshipers in southern nigeria yesterday killing at least 60 people. officials say the rainer's bible church was still under construction and workers tried to finish it in time for a ceremony for the pastor. hundreds of people including a local governor were inside the building at the time. the pastor managed to escape the collapse unharmed. back here at home, philadelphia city attorney will not face charges after he was caught look at this video, we've all seen it, he was vandalizing a local business. prosecutors say duncan lloyd will not be charged for his role in the anti trump messages that were spray painted on the fresh air market in chestnut hill.

viral cold. it could be sinusitis and that really breaks down into two different flares flavors it can be viral or bacterial the one you're referring to it seems to last longer than the average cold seven to 10 days, tend to be more in bacterial category. and those are the ones that give a lot of the symptoms facial pain and pressure, nasal drainage and nasal congestion. >> i just started doing this year the potty -- the nettie p pot. >> nettie pot. >> potty knows. >> right. [ laughter ] >> i just started doing it. it works. i'm wondering is this a similar concoction you're cooking up here? >> one thing do you care at home it's very very easy is the nettie pot as you described. it's basically a sinus irrigation you wash saline through the knows to help reduce nasal stuff kneeness and get rid of some of the mucus and pus that's building up. there's a lot of commercially available options that you can buy over the counter. but if you wanted to make the saline at home you can do that. it's very simple you start with a court of distilled water or

boiled then cooled tap water. the most important thing is not to use tap water from your faucet because of bacterial contamination. you then add a teaspoon of baking soda followed by a teaspoon of non i sized salter. mix it together and place that in your commercially available ear gator which can be a nettie pot or again there's many other options out there on the market. >> mine was the pot -- >> really had the potty knows. >> the potty knows. i used the tap water. that's why. >> there you go. >> big no-no. >> how do you know -- this is a great solution. how do you know, everybody seems to say i just have allergies. i'm battling a cold. how do you know when it's serious enough that you actually need to start doing something about it. >> the nice thing is lot of these initial remedies can be used for allergies or for an infection. particularly these sinus rinses. it's very easy to do and it will help in any case. if your symptoms are lasting longer than 10 days or worsens after initial period of improvement, then you might be

♪ much respect to cheerleaders they're getting their its respect they deserve. the international oh pump lick committee voted this week to recognize cheerleading as an official olympic sport. it could be in the olympics games one day. international cheer union will receive $25,000 a year from the international olympic committee who will also have the opportunity to apply for additional grants. that money will help them build their applications to be in the olympics. >> we do consider it a sport. it's so much more shaking your pom poms so much athletecism included into our sports and that's what makes us a sport. >> recognition is provisional which means it isn't guaranteed that cheerleading will be part of the 2020 olympic games in tokyo but the ioc can vote fully recognize the sport at any time during the three-year provisional. an interesting discussion. because we've got the all guy panel today.

firefighters spent about an hour battling the blaze before they declared that it was under control just before midnight. they did have to drain some fuel to keep it from feeding the flames but no one was hurt. 8:04. a man is under arrest following a robbery in northeast philadelphia that left a person in stable condition in the hospital. it happened about 5:30 this morning at torresdale avenue and plum street in the city's frankford section. a man entered a home there and stabbed a person inside in the head and the torso. 35-year-old man is recovering at hahnemann hospital this morning after being shot in north philadelphia. gunfire rang out just before 2:00 a.m. near 24th and ridge. victim was hit three times in his left leg. medics rush him to the hospital in stable condition. and so far no word on a possible motive or any arrests. ♪ solemn remembrance in wilmington for lieutenant hope.

fire chief anthony good post hughes hugh mussily promoted hope from senior firefighter to lieutenant. hundreds of people in the community including family, friends and fellow firefighters gathered at the chase center in wilmington to celebrate and honor her life. it was the final goodbye for hope who died december 1st after being badly burned figh fighting a house fire back in september. she was remembered as a fighter who was devoted to her community and cared for others. >> arty was intelligent, a caring person who's life revolved around service to oth others. arty embodied the true meaning and spirit of a hero. >> it's up to to us preserve and to learn from arty's story and her memory so that we ensure the enduring support and gratitude for our first responders. >> two other firefighters also tragically died in the fire. captain christopher leach and lieutenant jerry fickes.

prosecutors charged a woman who was staying at the home with arson and murder. two grocery store owners are in the hospital after an armed robber stormed into their business and now police are searching for clues that will lead them to the gunman. police say a man tried to rob this indian grocery store last night along the 6700 block of market street in upper darby. suspect came into the store and demanded money. two of the store owners were inside at the time. some words were exchanged between them and the robber and that's when friends and family say the suspect just started shooting. >> one guy was shot in the chest. the other one shot -- go the shot in the leg. >> it's pretty scary when -- whenly when it happens to someone you know and you've known all your life. yes, it's very scary. >> police say one of the shooting victims is in serious condition. the other stable. investigators are hoping that surveillance video from inside the store will help identify and locate the shooter. ♪

and as a result he'll do that continuously. the safing grace for the republican party is the former rnc chairman will be a close confidant. >> some of these and we've talk about mitt romney. now rex tillerson being discussed. some of these will be controversial to republicans. close associates to vladimir putin. they got to get confirm. is he going to have a problem among republicans getting these picks through? >> i think probably one or maybe two of them may not scrape through. but donald trump has a great thank to you give to the former head of the rep -- democratic party in the in the senate. the reason why he has that great thank to you give is they changed the rules. so now you cannot filibuster nominees of the president for cabinet level positions. you still can do it for supreme court justices. so what that means is, donald
