>> on monday brought you the story of tj. he's from new jersey, a college graduate, 33 years, 33 years old. found himself using drugs recreationally in college. >> when the he was arrested at my kitchen the officers let me know it was heroin. >> he found himself homeless a year and half ago in philadelphia panhandling of the ben franklin bridge just for his next score. he has a contact with his family who love him one him back. so i got contact with his sister we decided got talk to them. that snowball turned into a boulder very quickly. a treatment center contact to me, they got contacted me, they got on the phone with me the president told me if we could find this to they would give him a full scholarship to their treatment facility. seven days of detox, 30 days of treatment at the rehab facility, but we have to find a and he had

to agree to go. was started as two people turn into six. tj's mother, uncle, and -- and j, jj was a former drug addict and they both turned their lives around. jay does drug reform in new jersey. we went out and couldn't find him. went all of his spots. we end up almost given up, the sun is coming out for the day, and we make a wrong turn in the car that we are inches nose like weight, we missed our turn and he said will turn around. and he said will turn around. that street, 200 yards in front of me was tj holding a sign up and panhandling. >> how are you question what. >> we convinced him to talk so we sat down in a circle, i'm not sure if he knew an intervention was coming but it did right

and heroin is out of his life, i believe that. >> i'm grateful that today he is save. i'm grateful that his mother was able to sleep soundly for the last couple of days. it was was a remarkable chance to reflect on that life. it's like that i is a former attic can relate to. it's nice to be reminded that i don't want that life anymore. >> this was one of the most beautiful moments not just of my career, but my life that i got to be a part of something so special. >> and his mother cannot muster up the strength to do a video but she spoke to's tj and he is super motivated and and ready to go to rehab. >> is going down a very long hard road on top of overcoming the power that heroin has there's a family here that really needs to heal. there's relationships that need to heal.

the lives and cheating that happened when drugs come into play, leaves a lot of damage behind. so hope they can all heal together. i'm really happy that they're taken the first step. >> i just lost a close friend to a heroin overdose, it's not just about getting them into treatment immediately and off the street, it's a long-term thing. it's going to be a constant battle. >> every a story i've done before this was a death in the family and i'm sitting with the family and their living talking about the deceased individual and i was thinking, maybe we can help somebody is in need that is alive right now. >> heroin use and drug abuse in general is going up and up and all the issues that people are concerned about, the problem is when people read this stuff there -- is so enroll high incomes of the story like this, when you can put a face in the family on these things it really emphasizes how important it is because these are not just numbers. >> the stories are not supposed to be easily digestible. they're supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. i'm invested in the story and with this family.
