♪ ♪ bill: ashley, you were chasing a tragic end sad story. sara butler, 20 years old, brutally murdered. you are in montclair for her funeral. >> family and friends said their final goodbyes to 20-year-old sara butler at the st. mark's united methodist church in montclair on friday. the new jersey city university freshman was found strangled to death on the eagle rock reservation in west orange on december 1. >> words cannot explain. you do not even have to have a child to feel that the emotions of the parents are going through. >> the family is going through a difficult week having to bury their daughter. this man was arrested on december 6, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and destroyindestroyin g human remains on tuesday. investigators believe that sarah was with them several times a night before she went missing.

just days before thanksgiving. her family is not sure how the two of them met. they did not believe that she had a boyfriend. >> we believe that it leaves the person that allegedly did this was apprehended. and we know that that person is not on the street. >> a go fund me page raised more than $16,000 to help with funeral expenses. she was a lifeguard at the ymca and a lifelong dancer. the while, this man is being held on 1 million-dollar bail with a cash bond. a very sad day for this family. just one week out from christmas >> it is a terrific story. how confident are the prosecutors that they have their guy? >> they say that they have enough evidence at this point in time. that is the reason that he is in the predicament that he is in.

at this point, really the butler family deserves to get some kind of comfort knowing that whoever did such a horrible thing to their daughter is not still out there. bill: it is hard to wrap your head around a 20-year-old dying. >> it is a mystery as to how they interacted. the family didn't necessarily know that she was dating this guy. >> to your point earlier. the prosecutors office isn't going to charge someone indicates a serious is this without having good evidence. so there has to be, one would imagine dna evidence. >> it is the saddest thing to imagine a family having to bury their daughter just a week before christmas. our hearts are with you. we wish you a very happy holiday season. >> it's sad for the whole community. the weighted her body was found, people go hiking there. it is just shocking.

bill: you are chasing a story of one man's triumph over ridiculous government rules and are perceived. >> i am also getting a haircut. back in december i brought you a story about this man. a salon owner that battled local government for the right to hang a sign outside of his is nice. he was fined up to $40,000 for the illegal display of a flag sign. >> i was able to get the local council person. he conferred with me that this was not the right way to go about things. he worked with the mayor and the new york city attorney in legislation. >> this is on the ground floor up with residences above. there are other individuals that are not allowed to have a sign on the building as well.

>> at the end of the day the city council by a vote of 5- 5-4 pass legislation that reinforce the legality. >> the city tried to initially make them pay the fine, but he thought that as well and they made their decision retroactive. so he won there as well. >> i am in a position where i need to increase business. we have a lot of people in the phone ringing. and we are getting a lot of phone calls and the worst thing for any business is to turn people away. >> david has some advice for anybody who is battling local government and local ordinances. >> i think in most circumstances of you feel you are right and you want to fight for your right, you have to take it until it's complete and not give up.

determined enough to fight. >> don't listen to them, they have no idea. >> it's good advice, isn't it? >> a few things do not mix, alcohol and large trucks and equipment. an officer pulled over this guy who was driving a backhoe on the street in south brunswick. the man had bottles in their with him. and this is his second dwi conviction. >> this friday is an opportunity for us to honor men and women who work in law enforcement. this week i talk to jake who is a cocaptain of the wayne valley high school football team. he carried a thin blue line flag as he marched out on the football field this season.

in new york outside of the subway stop there is a growing problem in new york called "man-spreading." what do you have? >> i have breaking news. because this is huge. it is systemic and it is an epidemic. man-spreading. urban dictionary defines it as the disparate consumption of public space employed under the guise of male biological necessity. i decided that a dude is spreading his legs in the subway without regard to the other people in the city and it's not pretty. i can confirm now that it's actually real. that is right. a recent study suggested the ultra- annoying move is actually a real thing. over 100 students observed over 5000 subway riders on 21 lines

just between october 26 and november 26. these individuals, 26% of men are doing man-spreading. >> you get used to it. >> it's been like that for almost 20 or 30 or 40 years. >> they've been doing it for so long that it's typical. >> it's a really big balls a thing to do but it's done too often. in january they released a new campaign to we all remember targeting these individuals. the campaign features a sign that says stop the spread. >> one of the people behind the study says females are less squeamish than males about sitting down in a tight space on a crowded train. >> i am also glad that we have a special guest that happens to be

always wanted to be a cop and he was a little kid. >> marge was determined to keep her son's legacy alive and started this organization, deceased officer's parents association, to help others struggling with the same pain that she is going through. he wants those to know that they are cared for and we are proud of their children. >> eremite is that these guys and gals are like our sons and daughters. because we lost our sons and daughters. and this is a continuation of our children. and we hope that everyone comes back safe. >> part of her organization doing several events throughout the year, one of them is a big dinner. she said that they welcome all families no matter what the circumstances were and how they lost their children, suicide, dying while on the force. >> it's so nice to be in a room
