goals. ♪ >> from the fox 29 studios, this is "good day philadelphia" weekend. good day everyone. it is saturday, january 7th, 2017 and new year for us. happy new year to you. >> good to have you back, laur lauren. hopefully you had a great new year's. >> i did. i did. so it's a snowy saturday everyone knows, right? >> i'm excited. i don't know if people are looking at it like me i'm welcoming this snowfall. i am too. this is a live look at absecon the snow falling. jenny joyce tweeting it is sticking she's in brigantine. so i had a tweet out the other day because i said, you know what, this is yesterday. i said many of us will wake up to the snow i'm hoping for more than i saw today i was disappointed by the dusting i want snow like real snow. then one of my friends on twitter -- >> i swear die not see that tweet. die not. >> look what she says so glad to see my girl back at the desk. that's not the one. anyone, like lauren if you want a blizzard go to dairy queen.

>> like i said i'm actually -- i can't wait. >> i know. >> i want to see a couple of inches. i'll looking forward to it. >> me, too. scott williams the man of the hour everyone will be paying attention to him to final out where and when the snow is falling. scott, what's up with you? >> hi there, good morning, lauren and sean. of course, we are keeping tabs on that snow moving in across the region. we have winter storm warnings and advisories to get through but look at ultimate doppler right now. a lot of moderate to heavy snow moving out of virginia toward the delmarva peninsula and eventually toward the delaware valley parts of south jersey and delaware already looking at some of that snow coming down. so as we zoom in a little closer, places around kent county, north of dover looking at some of that snow. moving toward cumberland county, millville down the shore already looking at some of that snow and as jenny joyce was reporting, sticking pretty rapidly because temperatures are at or below freezing and we'll likely stay that way for much of the day. so cape may county, lap county that's where we have those winter storm warnings and you can see those will run until

6:00 o'clock tonight highlighted in the pink. little farther inland the i-95 corridor that's where we have the advisories until 4:00 o'clock. that includes the philadelphia area. so the bottom line we're talking a plowable snow, five to 8-inches for the shore between now to 5:00 p.m. that's the window for the snow to accumulate. philadelphia moving toward our area by 8am continuing through the early afternoon time frame. one to 3-inches some isolated higher amounts up to 4-inches for the philadelphia region. lehigh valley just a coating the main timing 10:00 a.m. through 1:00. as we go hour boy hour by 9:00 o'clock, we're looking at snow pretty much all of south jersey, parts of delaware, moving toward philadelphia but a very sharp cut off between no snow and the snow. so we'll continue to keep tabs on that. throughout the day by one, two, 3:00 o'clock still looking at that snow parts of south jersey and also down the shore. so here's the planner for philadelphia. one to 3-inches isolated four amounts and log at the temperatures stuck pretty much

in the 20s for atlantic city. five to 8-inches of snow expected and temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s. moderate snow the first half of the day. tapering off by the afternoon and evening. so coming up we'll continue to talk about the winter storm, the bitter cold air moving in behind it, dangerous wind chills and, yes, a warmup believe it or not in that seven day forecast. back over to you. >> all right, scott, thank you very much. bone-chilling temperatures and snow. that's headline this morning. right now we're keeping close eye on weather down the shore. let's get right out to jennifer joyce live in brigantine with a look at the conditions there. jenny, i saw your tweet and it's falling and it's sticking. >> reporter: it's falling and it's sticking, lauren. if you take a look at these snowflakes they're actually pretty small. they're pretty thin but there are a lot of them. and they are falling and covering the roadways now we did come here by way of atlantic city when we were driving through some of the back streets in atlantic city, we were slipping and we were sliding and a look here on brigantine

boulevard you can see that they are snow covered. we did hear from atlantic county officials who tell us that as the snow is falling they will send the salt trucks out. moments before the live truck -- live shot we did see one of those salt trucks pass us by. so we do know that they are out here working on this. but we can tell you slick conditions. as you heard scott williams say, the shore is expected to get hit pretty hard, five to 8-inches definitely heavy snowfall at times. so you are advised to take it easy on the roadways because visibility is expected to be pretty low if at any point during this storm you do need assistance you are supposed to call your local emergency management officials in your local town. we do know that also in addition to the heavy snowfall, wind gusts could reach about 30 miles an hour throughout this storm. lauren. >> all right. we will keep an eye on that and check back in with you our continuing winter weather coverage with jennaphr frederick who's in gloucester county, new

jersey. jenn, what do you see there in the roving vehicle? >> reporter: we're in vineland, and we're on landis avenue and i'll scholl was we see. you can see it right here. there is some snow. it's sort of stickin sticking. it's flurrying a bit but it's perfect. i mean if you had to get out and about this morning, you wouldn't have any trouble doing so. we came down here on the atlantic city expressway, i have to say it was flurry ago bit more there. we're coming right up on rout route 655 again this is the vineland area. now, even though you're seeing that the roads are clear, i want to tell you we haven't seen any plows. so it's just basically looking like this because it's flurrying a little bit but not enough to be sticking on the roads in this area at this time. but, again h we were on the ac expressway, um, it was sticking a little bit more. so what we're going to do is we're doing to travel from here back to center city so we want people on twitter to tell us where the snow is. people were checking in from

hammonton, and some other areas in south jersey tell us where you are and where you see the white stuff. guys, back to you. >> all right. we'll check back in with jenn and jennifer joyce. ♪ searching for someone they say killed a man along the 1,000 block of clearfield street. police say he was shot seven times. the man was rushed to the hospital but died a short time later. so far no motive for the shooting and no arrest. also breaking, an accident in northeast philadelphia sends three people to the hospital there. police say it happened at 2:00 a.m. at rhawn street and lexington avenue. two people were taken to aria torresdale hospital. another person was rushed to einstein medical center with unknown injuries. investigators still looking into the cause of that crash. ♪ law enforcement spent much of the night at the airport in fort lauder dater after deadly shooting earlier in the day a man was in the baggage claim area of the airport when he took a gun from his checked luggage and started shooting. five people were kill.

eight others hurt investigators say the shooter is 26-year-old esteban santiago with ties to new jersey. he moved to puerto rico where he served in the national guard. investigators say he also spent some time in alaska and served some time overseas. santiago arrived to ft. lauderdale on a flight from canada. police believe he check the weapon in a bag, retrieved from it baggage claim, went into a bathroom, and loaded the gun and came out shooting. one man was standing right next to santiago. >> i got my first bag off i heard the first shot as i did the person right next to me fell to the ground, and i wasn't su sure. it was very surreal. i turned and looked and he was holding a handgun and he was firing into the crowd. everyone from that flight was standing there waiting for their luggage and he just started shooting. >> suspect was taken into police custody. police say he has a history of mental health issues. right now investigator do's not have a motive for that shooting.

president-elect donald trump responded to the deadly shooting on twitter monitoring the terrible situation in florida just spoke to governor scott. thoughts and prayers for all. stay save! new information on the beating of a mentally challenged man out of chicago that was broadcast live on facebook. prosecutors say one of the four people charged in the incident demanded $300 from the victim's mother. police say the attackers could be seen ripping the victim's clothes, beating him and cutting him with a knife. the suspects are being charged with hate crimes battery and kidnapping. all of them denied bond and remain behind bars this morning. u.s. intelligence agencies releasing a bombshell n it a claim that russian president vladimir putin ordered a hidden campaign to influence america's presidential election to make donald trump win. the report describing russia's hacking into the e-mail accounts of the dnc. of the report does not say that russia affected actual vote counting or tampered with

ballots. president-elect trump told the associated press he learned a lot from yesterday's intelligence briefing. he did not say if he accepts russia's role in compromising the election. president-elect trump also taking to twitter to criticize democrats forgetting hacked saying, gross negligence by the democratic national committee a loud hacking to take place. the republican national committee had strong defense x. michelle obama delivered her final white house remarks in a tearful speech thanking her supporters. the event honored the school counselor of the year. the ceremony was launched by mrs. obama in 2015. it's intended to highlight high school counselors who have demonstrated leadership skills as part of her reach higher program to promote higher demonstration during her talk she got a little overcome with emotion. >> so i want to close today by simply saying thank you. thank you for everything you do for our kids and for our count

i love that. here comes the snow it's falling down. you can't tell from this life look right here. jenny joyce told us she's in brigantine, new jersey, we saw her pictures and it is coming down, scott williams. >> absolutely. location will be key because places like allentown, may be a few flurries or a coating but we're talking a plowable snow down the shore. look at ultimate doppler right now as we track a lot of that moisture and that frozen precipitation moving out of parts of virginia toward sections of maryland and also as we move toward southern delaware along with extreme south jersey. so we'll zoom in a little closer and you can see the darker hues on the radar. that's where we have the higher intensity so visibilities are reduced as well into parts of south jersey central southern delaware. we'll zoom in a little closer right now and show you around lewes, rehoboth beach, dewey beach looking at that light to moderate snow moving toward cape may, looking at that snow as we move toward ocean city, atlantic

city, light snow has gun. brigantine as well. little farther inland around cumberland county, millville, vineland looking at some of that light snow. so across the area, you can see very high impacts down the shore with the plowable snow. weekend wendy checking out things across the area disruptive snow in philadelphia and then just a nuisance some flurries so low impacts once you move toward the lehigh valley. visibility down to 2.5 miles in millville indicating that snow has gun. atlantic city down to a mile and a half. so be mindful of that. we have temperatures right now in the low 20s. so it's a light fluffy snow and it will accumulate. much more throughout the broadcast. back over to you. >> all right. thank you so much, scott. >> ♪ we continue to keep a watch on our weather. lots of tech gifts for under the tree. new privacy from the yahoo breach. cyber security is a worry even for big agencies. how do we protect ourselves from being expert.

lisa garr gary here with some helpful tips for us. good morning to you. >> good morning. great to see you. >> good to see you. you dodged the snow for now. >> i dodged the snow, yes. >> okay. let's talk about we're swapping out old devices for new ones because we got a new gift. >> unless you're me i'm keeping a hold on my original phone. >> i'm not getting rid of this. >> that's so funny. if you're ready to get rid of your tech have i couple tips for you in order to save your data make sure it's backed up and then also when you're getting rid of those old phones and laptops make sure no one can access your data. >> let's start witness first thing you think we should do. >> well, first you want to make sure you have saved everything you want. so whether it's your photos to your contact list to any other sort of notes you have on the phone, make sure you backed those up either to a cloud account or i suggest getting an ex term hard drive. >> okay. >> it's a great cheap effective measure to make sure you have everything redundant backup nice to have that second one save behind.

>> okay. >> and then do you think after we save everything it's save them to wipe it clean? >> it's safe to wipe it clean. double check you have everything. remove the sim card if there is one in your device and then we go on to wiping the device which is the fun and scary part. depending on the make and model and operating system andrade or apple, there will be some on the detailed steps but generally the process is the same. you first want to sign out of any of your e-mail servers, your apps, any social media platforms make sure you're signed out. make sure you're signed out of your cloud account as well that's associated with the device. and then turn off any device apps or different set ups that you have. go through the procedure that's set up by the manufacturer to reset the device. and go through that process two times. >> oh, that's key. >> take little extra time make sure you do it twice. want to try to override reset everything cleanly. it's important to remember if skilled forensic expert gets a hold of their device they maybe able to find something deleted

in they carve in that space and dig for it. generally somebody will be put off if they see it's been reset multiple times. >> gotcha. >> i think i have somewhat of idea what we're talking about. for lot of people they have no clue. i got a new iphone and i'm struggling right now with my contacts. like is there an apple support or, you know, whether it be smart phone support or anything like that somebody we can reach out to help out little bit more? >> definitely reach out to the manufacturer. apple definitely great with its customer service and so are android based servers. one of the things you can look at in the app store before you go through this whole reset process there are a couple different apps that are offered that will help you reset everything make sure it's over writ tepp. >> gotcha. >> one thing i know that's key i sold something on e-bay and i was like okay have i to wipe it all clean. but then it's to change your password, right? that way if you just happen to leave something on there, they get into your device or whatever it is, they can't kind of crack the code? >> yes. always good health check safety check make sure you change your passwords one to three months

i'm leaning towards the one month side but when you're getting ready to sell a device, very good point lauren make sure you reset all of your passwords change them. general rule now is about 10 characters mixture of letters, numbers, capitals, symbols, all of that fun stuff. >> it make it hard for to you even remember what it is. >> yes. >> i go to my computer i for, after the holidays, wait, what is my password? >> yeah. >> lisa, one quick question do you have any good places or web sites that people know that they can go to trade these in? you get them and you have all these, look at us up here, 12, three, four, five. so many devices. where a place that you like that works for you where we can sell the devices and off load them. >> service providers will generally give you recommendations but i personally have used gazelle. >> i love that one. >> it's begun great. it's pretty trustworthy. e-bay is a little trickier. but just make sure everything is wiped off your device you'll be fine. >> okay. >> yes. >> thank you so much. >> for sure. >> great advice. >> got that? >> yes. >> i'm struggling right now. you should see i got nothing but numbers and no names. >> oh, no.

it's january 7th, 2017. we have live team coverage for you this morning. jennifer joyce live down the shore expected to be the hardest hit. jenn fred is in gloucester county keeping an eye on the roads there. but we start with meteorologist scott williams tracking this blast of winter and it is cold, scott. >> absolutely. temperatures today will struggle to make it out of the low and mid 20s. so a light fluffy snow across the area but it really will depend on your location lauren look at ultimate doppler right now some of that moderate snow moving up from virginia along with maryland toward sections of central southern delaware extreme south jersey right now. we'll zoom and take a tour across the area. so you can see the snow is coming down in kent county also in sussex county along with cape may county down the shore atlantic county also sections of southern ocean and southern burlington right now. much of what you see a little farther inland we'll get to in a moment not making it to the ground atmosphere still relatively dry but lewes, rehoboth beach down to dewey beach expecting five to 8-inches of snow likewise as we move

toward sections of cape may and atlantic city. so as we move a little farther inland once again this is not making it to the ground. dew points are generally in the single digits so we really have to catch up to that air temperature before those flakes really start to fall and accumulate around the i-95 corridor. so how much snow do we expect? we're talking about five to 8-inches in this darker shade here down the shore. that includes atlantic city, avalon, wildwood down to rehoboth beach head further inland three to 5-inches a sharp cut off between no snow and perhaps a couple of inches around the i-95 corridor. much more throughout the broadcast we have roving team coverage right now here's jenn fred. jenn what are you seeing? >> reporter: hey, scott. so we are on route 559 in gloucester county. we're headed to egg harbor township. we were in vineland before. and i have to tell you the snow is picking up a little bit. i think you can see the roads right there. let me try it this way.

ah! of course it's not working. it's live tv. but the roads are definitely getting a little bit more i don't want to say covered but definitely mushy. so one of the things that we've been seeing all morning long is that it hasn't really been cold enough maybe or sticky enough to keep it on the roads. we talk about this earlier. we have not seen any snowplows yet, but the snow on the roads is not a problem because i think they treated it maybe pretty well last night. so, again, we are headed right towards the parkway. the atlantic city expressway. egg harbor township right now there you go, you can see like i said, lauren, there is some snow on the sides of the roads, but regular cars are able just to drive right over it. so right now there is very -- very few problems in around south jersey. >> looks like you are make your way well. thank you jenn fred. snow is started to fall down the shore. some areas could be seeing several inches.

jennifer joyce in brigantine with more on what she is seeing. jenny we found the answer to your question. sean did. 165 days until summer. >> so close. >> reporter: good work, sean. way to go to work during the commercial break. thank you for that answer. i can't get here -- it can't get here soon you enough. i heard you say you were excited for this snow. good for you. i hope these people down the shore are excited and ready for what is about to come. five to 8-inches down the shore expected. it's been snowing for a couple of hours now. the snowflakes are pretty thin. but there are a lot of them. so far we probably have less than 1 inch of snowfall down here. let's take look at the roads. you can see this main road here brigantine boulevard is snow covered. as we watch this van pull in, taking a slow turn into the parking lot here of wawa on brigantine boulevard, there was a delivery truck man. i just talk to a minute ago end said that road conditions were actually okay. on our way in the main roads were okay.

♪ hey everybody i'm jenn frederick and this momologue. these indoor play spaces are an amazing place to take the kids when it's cold. i mean come on it's freezing this weekend. but people who work here at this one in particular kids at play in east falls section they want you to know like be aware when you come in. right? because they say sometimes moms and dads kind of let their kids go. but see how moms are playing with their kids. that's one really good piece of advice. they say it make the whole thing so much better. here's the other thing. this place is inclusive meaning there are some kids that have sensory issues. and they say sometimes the two moms think that one kid is being rude. but it's really just a special needs child kind of finding or her way in mazing space like this. bottom line is, bring your kids out. have some fun indoors. but listen, interact, pay attention don't be on your phone all the time. i'm jenn fred i've done it before but this is a warning we should all be playing with our kids a little bit more.

anywhere from five to 8-inches head farther inland three to 5-inches interior south jersey. maybe an inch or so along the i-95 corridor. so came cape may here's your hour by hour forecast. five to 8-inches expected moderate snow first part of the day tapering by the afternoon. high temperatures in the 20s. five to 8-inches down the shore a plowable snow. atlantic city temperatures by noon 28, 29 degrees by 4:00. so staying below freezing. not quite snowing yet in philadelphia. but expecting anywhere from one the least to 3-inches across the area flurries by 8:00. noon temperatures right around 26 degrees. upper 20s at 4:00 and then the lehigh valley allentown really not a whole lot. maybe a possible coating at be best. temperatures cold, though, 24 by 4:00 this afternoon. much more throughout the broadcast and in our next hour beginning at 8:00 o'clock. back over to you. >> all right. scott, thank you so much.

already started to fall there and it will continue to fall. we have time team coverage for you this morning. jennifer joyce live down the shore. jenn fred driving around south jersey, but we start here in our studios with meteorologist scott williams tracking this blast of winter weather. good morning to you, scott. >> good morning to you, lauren. winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings across the area. we're talking anywhere from a coating, yeah, not a whole lot far north and west to as much as 8-inches of snow down the shore. so location will be key today. look at ultimate doppler right now. we're looking at some of that light to moderate snow in parts of south jersey, parts of delaware. take tour across the area. zooming in where you see the darker shades of blue and purp purple, that's where we have that moderate snowfalling right now. kent county, cumberland county moving toward atlantic city, cape may along with sussex county. kind of zoom in closer right now the garden state parkway looking at some of that moderate snow moving toward cape may, wildwood avalon, see eye city ocean city. that's where we can see five to 8-inches of snow a lot of what

you see north and west not really making it to the ground. maybe some flurries beginning the next hour or so along the i november corridor. but the atmosphere still relatively dry. but take a look at the purple advisories. that includes philadelphia until 4:00. in the pink, winter storm warnings until 6:00 o'clock tonight. so as we go hour by hour, we're watching some of that snow continue to move farther north and west. maybe 9:00 o'clock moving toward the philadelphia area. wilmington as well. but look at the sharp cut off. we have the snow philadelphia north and west but then really nothing once you move towards the lehigh valley and the poconos then we continue with that moderate to heavy snow down the shore into the afternoon. we're talking three, four, even 5:00 o'clock still dealing with that snow. so what about the totals once again location will be key. the have the have nots and take a look at that sharp cut north and west maybe a coating toward allentown or just some flurries. an inch or so around philadelphia before all is said

and lexington avenue. two people were taken to aria torresdale hospital. another person was rushed to einstein medical center with unknown injuries. that accident looks bad there. investigators still looking into the cause of that crash. let's head down to florida ft. lauderdale five people are dead, eight others injured in a suspect a lone gunman is in police custody. police and fbi agents are questioning 26-year-old esteban santiago of new jersey. they say the veteran opened fire in the baggage claim area. witnesses described the sheer horror inside the airport. >> immediately was mass chaos. people running by. hard to decipher exactly what was happening. i consider myself aware of most things, but this was really hard to figure out what was happening and the man ran down the escalator with the sheriffs and police in pursuit. >> santiago reportedly toll the fbi in november that the government was controlling his mind. the agency now questioning his family. meanwhile president obama offering condolences to the

market street, you can see some of the first flakes have begun around the philadelphia area. albeit light atmosphere still relatively dry. so some of those flakes will turn into larger flakes a little later on this morning into the early afternoon time frame but it is cold. look at the temperature right now. 24 degrees and winds right now gusting over 20 miles per hour in the philadelphia area. so as we look at ultimate doppler, we'll take a tour across the area. once again light flurries around the i-95 corridor but the moderate snow right now is down the shore. we'll zoom in a little closer. places like atlantic county, cape may county, sussex county in delaware. that's where we do anticipate five to 8-inches of snow. so visibility has been reduced around cape may. wildwood to about quarter of a mile. likewise around rehoboth beach as we move up the parkway we're talking some of that light to moderate snow atlantic city brigantine interior parts of south jersey as well. looking at that snow. so here's a look at the visibility. where we have 10, that's pretty

good still take a look down the shore. parts of south jersey that visibility has been reduced because of that more moderate snow that has gun. 22 millville atlantic city 22. 20 right now in pottstown. so five to 8-inches of snow expected in cape may. look at those temperatures. cold not making it out of the 20s. same scenario five to 8-inches for the atlantic city area. we're talking moderate snow for the first part of the day. tapering off by the afternoon. philadelphia area, 1 inch of snow, perhaps as as three maybe isolated 4-inch amounts around the i-95 corridor but look at the temperatures. we're stuck in the 20s and that snow tapers off by the afterno afternoon. now, for the lehigh valley, maybe a possible coating not anticipating a whole lot of coverage there as there will be that sharp cut off with the snow but blustery and cold. so once again, the bottom line we're looking at five to 8-inches down the shore through at least around the early dinnertime frame.

area. and you can see that snow moving up from the south. some of heaviest right now down the shore. five to 8-inches of snow expected where you see those darker bands that's pretty moderate to heavy snow falling at a good clipper happens half an inch to an inch per hour. places like lewes, rehoboth beach, moving toward cape may, wildwood, avalon, sea isle city atlantic city prig teen looking at that light to moderate snow also moving now toward parts of south jersey around deptford, pine hill moving toward philadelphia north and western suburbs lookin looking some of t light snow across the area weekend wendy prepare for plowable snow down the shore. so high impacts disruptive snow around the philadelphia area caution on the roads moderate impact the lehigh valley. lower impacts mainly just nuisance event. the far north and west you head. 19 in reading. 22 right now in millville and atlantic city. so cold enough for that snow. how much to expect. the jackpot areas once again

will be down the shore. five to 8-inches or more. move a little farther inland three to 5-inches and right around philadelphia an inch or so and then it really drops off once you move far north and we west. so cape may, five to 8-inches of snow expected. temperatures stuck in the 20s. moderate snow for at least the first part of the day. atlantic city five to 8-inches of snowfall for you and take look at those temperatures. we don't make it above freezing so it will stick a plowable event down the shore and then for the philadelphia area, we're talking one to 3-inches. some isolated areas could over achieve up to four but look at those temperatures. only in the upper 20s for philadelphia. the seven day forecast shows cold conditions tonight. 17 degrees. feels like temperatures will be in the single digits tomorrow morning. we rebound toward the middle and latter part of next week. some of the heaviest snow right now falling down the shore. jennifer joyce continues our team could have ratch. jenn, what are you seeing?

>> reporter: good morning, scott. well we are seeing the conditions pick up here. the wind is definitely a little bit stronger. we were made aware that we could see wind gusts up to 30 miles an hour throughout this storm. we are live along brigantine boulevard here in the town of brigantine. you can see the roads are snow covered, here comes assault truck right now right on queue. we talked to public works. we know they have 35 trucks throughout atlantic county right now trying to make their way and stay on top of this storm. they'll be out all day as long as necessary as the snow is falling making sure that they put the salt out there. but they said that they won't begin plowing until they have at least 2-inches of snow on the ground. i just did a check, and from what i could see, i think we have a little bit more than an inch of snow on the ground right now and we are live here at a wawa. michael if we pan off and show
