ultimate doppler. yesterday afternoon and evening, you can see that pink not whole lot of precipitation. that is out of here for today. in fact, we're looking at a lot of sunshine as high pressure builds in. but take look toward the west. midwest. kansas city still dealing with the threat of dangerous ice. so we'll be following that forecast pretty carefully throughout the day today. otherwise, take look at those totals easton pa an inch and a half. hide dell burg township inch and half and allentown less than an inch. officially atlantic city airport a trace. and of course a trace in philadelphia. so temperature wise right now it's 31 degrees much it's cold out there. but temperatures are actually going to recover by this afternoon we're talking about high temperatures a little above average into the 40s. back over to you. >> all right. scott, thank you so much. following breaking news this morning. a taxi driver in critical condition after getting shot multiple times in west philadelphia. jennifer joyce live near the scene with those details.

hi, jenny. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. well, according to police cab driver was found across the street here outside of the cab lying on the ground. the driver was shot 13 times. police say it was 1:39 this morning when the cabby got a call to pick up a customer on 42n42nd street here in southwest philadelphia. the driver reported to dispatch that the man was giving him a hard time with directions, then win 40 minutes police responded to the call of a man shot at 42nd and ogden streets. that's when they found the driver here on the street with several gunshot wounds. the driver's side door was open and the cab was still running. there were nine shell casings on the block. no sign every the customer. the driver a man in his 50s was transported to presbyterian hospital where he is listed in critical condition. police also indicated that this location is only a couple of blocks from the initial call. at this point there are a lot of questions about what happened between 1:40 and 2:20 when the

driver was found lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. lauren? >> all right. jenn nearing such a sad story. thank you so much. a police officer sent to the hospital after his patrol car was hit. investigators say this happened around 2:00 o'clock along north front street and to us today loom street in kensington much the officer is expected to be okay. no word yet on any arrests. philadelphia police say a road rage incident that started on the expressway ended with a driver being shot three times. authorities say yesterday morning an angry driver followed another car off i-76 and started shooting. family members identified the victim as 25-year-old map named marcel. he was hit three times in the hip and groin. marcel's sister says the suspect started following her brother's blue kia closely frustrated at how slow he was driving. >> turned off on 76 and the guy followed him. then the guy came on the side and shot at my brother five times. i think this person definitely needs to be off the road. if you can do that, that fast and have no remorse for yourself

like you don't need to be on these streets. you don't. >> marcel is in stable condition but family members tell us he'll likely have life long health problems as a result of this shooting. police say the suspect sped away were in in black toyota camry. the chief of police in camden county new jersey scott thompson is heading to wisconsin to meet with the speaker of the house paul ryan. thompson is traveling with law enforcement leaders from all over the nation. they'll be talking with congressman ryan by dee escalation tactics and use of force in policing. thompson will highlight the training initiatives he is implementing in camden county emphasizing community policing. now to our top stories. next month will be the final opportunity to see the greatest show on earth after 146 years. ringling brothers and barnum bailey circus will be shutting down. the chairman of the fels entertainment group the company that own the circus says declining attendance and high operating costs are among self reasons for closing. since the 800s barn null and the

allentown. 27 in wilmington. so there might be some patches of black ice out there but otherwise pretty dry and quiet as high pressure continues to dominate our weather pattern for today. we're looking at high temperatures into the 40s. the average high for this time of year is right around 40 degrees. so several degrees above average for a change. we are still looking at a little bit of a chill out there. now, for tonight it's clear and cold. temperatures bottom out into the upper teams for the suburbs. 27 degrees in center city. now what about the holiday forecast for tomorrow a day of service. mlk day we're looking at partly cloudy skies, temperatures top out into the mid 40s so looking pretty good and also it looks like a dry forecast for tomorr tomorrow. as far as next week we're tal talking about milder air moving in so above average temperatur temperatures. climbing into the 50s for a part of that seven day forecast. temperatures today, tomorrow, mid 40s. upper 40s on tuesday.

but clouds, some showers, kind of moving in, that rain lingers into early wednesday and then another chance for some rainfall as we move toward the latter part of next week. back over to you. >> okay, scott. a peace of history right here in philadelphia marking a major milestone. it's a record you'll find only in philly. i'm bruce gordon. major birthday was celebrated new year's day maybe you missed it in all the hoopla. the palestra turned 90. the home gym of the university of pennsylvania quakers hosted its first basketball game january 1, 1927 the quakers beating yale 26-15. since then the facility has hosted more ncaaa basketball games than any other a rona in america. more ncaa tournament games as well mostly back in the old days before those big oversized mega stadiums were all the luxury sweets took over. the palestra is on just about everyone's list of great sports venues in america and for good

reason. it's not just that it was one of the first steel and concrete sports palaces built in this country or one of the first without interior columns to block the view of fans. no it's mostly because the palestra has atmosphere. real atmosphere the kind that comes naturally doesn't need to be piped in through a pa system. the seats the vast majority of them any way are bleachers and they seem to be on top of the court. you lean into the game because leaning backward puts you in the lap of the fan sitting behind you. you sit on number, stamp flood your little section of bench. and you hope that the guy sitting next to you on his little number has hasn't just eaten a big dinner. concourse that end circles the seating area includes a basketball museum of sorts now days. but the pathway itself is rather narrow like in all older arenas it's in to get you from point a to point b not meant to be a shopping mall. the palestra seats just over 8700 for basketball and again there are no luxury sweets. meaning it will never again be used for march madness.

african-american museum here in philadelphia. thank you very much for joining us on this sunday morning. >> thank you for having me. >> any time you hear dr. king's words no matter who you are, what you believe, it sort of makes you stop and think and is that sort of good time for us in this day and age right now during very steps times. >> of course. dr. king's words and his legacy continue to resonate. during this time a transition and rather troubled times for our country we're finding new meaning with dr. king's legacy. what do you think dr. king would think, would say, would feel, about the progress our country has made? i know we asked that and you stop and ask that question every year around this time? we've made progress and we still have so much more to do. >> dr. king focused on challen challenges but he was always focused on hope as well. his last book was building our community. chaos or community. we have choices to make. and that resonates again with us today. we have choices as to whether we'll come together or whether

we will continue to dwell in chaos, and following doctor king's legacy and his directive, african-american museum in philadelphia is celebrating this opportunity for diverse communities to come together. >> it's interesting to me because dr. king did not live during the social media age and we see that a lot of things play out on social media today. some people would challenge to us just be quiet and not complain and not talk about these things. but do you think that's the right answer? >> absolutely not. dr. king was an active visit. he chose non-violence but he spoke out consistently. here in philadelphia he had a presence from the very beginning of his time in this region from the time he was at crozer theological center, he had an incident when he visited a restaurant in camden, and was refused service. that n his understanding that segregation was also present in the north as well as the south. and he began to rally and speak out at that time. >> and you mentioned camden. he spent some time there when he

was in seminary. >> yes. >> and there is a historic house there dr. king lived while he was here in there were talk it could be demolish. people were arguing against that. what's the latest on that? >> my understanding the latest is that it will be gifted to a group that wants to preserve that house as part of dr. king's legacy. so people can visit and come to understand that the message of peace, unity and active i continues to be a watch forward us today. >> speaking activism thousands of people expected to gather in washington, d.c. we heard from al sharpton yesterday. how important is that work when we continue to gather in these large groups and let our voices be heard? >> activisms always important. dr. king emphasize we all had a role. we all have a charge. here in the african-american museum in philadelphia, we're continuing that legacy as well. we're engaging families. we're engaging young children. hoping that they will understand their role in pushing this legacy forward.

so i was on the way home from picking up a friend who was visiting me here from atlanta, and the first thing she said was, wow, the roads in philadelphia are really bad. well then about 10 minutes later, we hit one of famous potholes and guess what? >> is that your tire. >> that is my tire. >> that is the tow truck. >> wow. >> wait, wait. >> so truck. >> that has become my life. >> yes. you got your car towed or did he come out there to change your tire. >> he came to change the tire. i didn't have to get the car towed. do you see that little bitty nick. >> you're almost on the rim. >> those are low profile tires. >> that's your first mistake. no disrespect. >> when i bought the car when i lived in orlando, florida, i didn't know i was going to move to philadelphia and be driving around potholes are like, you know -- >> low pro in the wintertime. >> oh, my goodness. >> that's a no-no. >> how long did it take to get that situation resolved. >> i still have a donut on my car. okay. no word yet on any arrests. philadelphia police say a road rage incident that started on the expressway ended with driver being shot three times. authorities say yesterday morning, an angry driver followed another car off i-76 and started shooting. family members identified the victim as a 25-year-old named marcel. he was hit three times. marcel's sister says the suspect started following her brother's blue kia closely, frustrated how slow he was driving. >> marcel is in stable condition but family members tell us he would have long life health problems. police say the suspect sped away in black toyota camry with tinted windows and front end damage to that car. the chief of police in camden county, new jersey, scott thompson, is heading to wisconsin to meet with the speaker of the house, paul ryan. thompson traveling with law enforcement leaders from all over the nation they'll be speaking with congressman ryan about dee escalation tactics and use of force in policing.

thompson will highlight the training initiatives he's implementing in camden county emphasizing community policeing. now let's get to breaking news. a taxi drive is in critical condition after getting shot multiple times in west philadelphia. jennifer joyce live near the scene with much more. hi, jenny. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. police tell us this cab driver was found here down this street in the area of ogden and brooklyn. the driver was shot 13 times. police say it was 1:39 this morning when the cabby got a call to pick up a customer on 42nd street here in southwest philadelphia. the driver report the to dispatch that the man was giving him a hard time with directions. then win 40 minutes, police responded to a call of a man shot at 42nd and ogden streets. that's when they found the driver on the street with several gunshot wounds. the driver's side was open and the cab was still running. here at the scene the cab remains running. as this -- remains an active crime scene. no sign of the customer, howev

witnessed the accident, picked up the phone. he then began to care for melissa until she watched the hospital at saint mary mel center in langhorne where jake and his now love of his life started dating and the rest is history. the newly engaged couple is he here. >> aww. >> so share their love story wise. my goodness when i her about it yesterday i got the chills. >> not what you really expect to hear in love story people say where did you meet. what's your answer? what do you always say? >> not the typical facebook meet or anything of that sort. we do have very unique story. we do love to share it with people. and it does it catches a lot of people off guard because it's not what like you said most people would expect. >> my first question how is melissa? do you still keep in touch with her. >> we talk every now and then. not as close friends as we used to be. life took us different paths. >> we do keep in contact every now and then. she's doing good. she's doing well. >> did you ever expect jake i should ask you to meet the love of your life in high school?

through it all. >> yes. >> came out on top. >> but you're only just getting started. >> i know. >> just getting warmed um. >> exactly. so 10 years, you know, 10 years later we really start the next chapter of our life it's amazing. it really is. >> do you remember that first phone call? >> i do. i do remember that. >> jake was the oh other end of the phone. >> i had no idea who he was. he pick up her phone. i said, you know, who is this? i said i have no idea who. >> right. we got to the hospital. i said i'm going to call her phone again. you have to meet up with me so i don't even know what you look like. >> correct. >> that's how we went about meeting at the hospital. >> it sort of unlikely place you don't know what's doing to happen when you get there. your friend is injured. i guess once you found out she was okay,. >> right. >> is that when a conversation started between you and jake. >> no, not until afterwards. >> well sort of. [ laughter ] >> in his mine. >> he was spotting her. >> we spoke there of course but then as the days passed, our friends -- >> actually startled -- it started at fundraisers. >> that's true. >> pennsbury was awesome. it wasn't just us that gated

family the other day septembe september 7th that was my mom and dad's anniversary and ironically it's jake's grandparents so i figure that would be a special day. >> it's meant to be video we're watching here, did you take her back to the hospital. tell the proposal story, jake. >> all right. so i actually -- >> look at that face. >> i had to drag her in pretty much. >> what did you tell her. >> how did this happen. >> i told we were supposed to go out on date night she's a nurse, too. our schedules are always, you know, mixing up. >> okay. >> so i told her it was date night and we were going tout out to get something to eat and i made reservations. on the way there i told her i got a call from work we have to run to saint mary's mel center to -- i have to drop something off to my sergeant at the time. >> gotcha. >> and she was furious. i mean furious with me. she was like you're going to ruin date night and we were already supposedly running late. >> right. >> so we get there. i actually had to pull in the fire lane because there's no way i was going to get her out of the car in the back of the parking lot behind the hospital. so we pull in the fire lane.

and the whole staff at saint mary's hospital was amazing. they really were. a lot of them were lined up in the hallways her family, my family an few friends that were there. they were lined upper if he cannily. she had no clue until i finally said you know what today is and she still didn't know what was going on. until i pulled the ring out of my pocket and then she -- finally hit her the emotion that she had is -- it was surprise was amazing it couldn't gone any better. good for you. >> i'm still shocked. >> you can see that in the real. >> absolutely. >> i just want to say when i got engaged my fiance' was giving me hell, too, as well. >> really? >> the day of. yup. it was like 75 degrees, though, i had jacket on because the big ring box was that my pocket. i couldn't hide. what are you wearing coat for?
