let's talk with attendance. that was a big talk on social media. visibly difference than just a few years ago. >> that's right, lauren, there is a photo going around on social media that shows a very drastic difference between president obama inauguration and his crowd and now president trump's crowd. what we saw back in 2009 and 2013 was about a crowd of about a million. now this year we're seeing about 250,000 people in that crowd and you know there was a noticeably a lot of white space. but the organizers of the inauguration said they were very happy, of course. president trump has said that he was very happy with the turnout and that it ended up being a very great and big event for him. you know, initially, of course we all wanted to see people, 217 people arrested, sixes officers injured in awful this. a lot of protests happening in
7:31 am
d.c. moments after the ceremony ended. >> that's right. so most of the protestors that were here yesterday were pieceful. they just demonstrated, made layer voices heard. what happened according to police is one group out mr. is responsible for creating all the destruction, smashing windows, lighting a limo on fire, otherwise getting in fights. that's why police had to come in with tier gas and push these crowds back. they did arrest those 217 people charging them with rioting and there were six officers who were hurt, but all of them have non-life threatening injuries and are expected to be okay. now today there are more protests skilled and planned at the women's march. that is being build as a non violent. they want a pieceful protest. we'll see how todaying whys and

7:34 am
so he thought i wonder if there was a sister event in philly and i didn't see one. i looked every where and i just decided to create one to see if there would be interest. at the time i thought maybe a couple of us could gather in park somewhere and be in solve dry with d.c. and now here we are. we found out last half hour that a weeing a it was 10,000 people had signed up and now it's up to 35,000. we see police all over the parkway, the oval here blocking traffic. this is a huge deal. how does it he feel to know that you're the person who mobilized this effort? >> it is very surreal, but i am very happy. i'm happy that there is so much interest and there's supplant a positive force behind it. i'm so happy that there are women and their alleys out here today to have their voices be heard and to come together and in unity and make sure that our voices are heard and that we're here together. i know that we have some video.
7:35 am
i'm not sure if we're showing it yesterday of the protestor protests, can you tell me wawa you have in mind for the day, for the march, the recall yes, it's pieceful, positive. >> absolutely, yes. from the very beginning the intent was to be positive. we have over 50,000 some people on our event page on facebook and it's all been very positive feedback. this is a pieceful rally. it's a county rally and we're hoping that people just connect with each other in the audience and connect with some of the speakers and performers that we're have today at the rally portion and we're marching in solve dry to make sure that our voices are heard and people know that womens' rights are human rights and it's a pieceful event. > this as concerns going into a new administration. >> yes, exactly. you know, just some of the rhetoric that was used during the election cycle, we want to make sure that during president trump's first day in office that

of in cherry hill. i understand being safe. i've been given two different things, one of them a stun gun. for christmas i got this whistle so you can blow the whistle or hold button down and then it sends a text message to ten different people and it shows my gps location of where exactly i am. the problem with these things is sometimes you don't have time to dig in your purse and pull them out. things ask me about things like h this all the time, if you don't have italy accessible it's not go to help you out. if you're walking down the street and you get attacked, you can't say to the attacker wait a second, let me get this out of my purse. we work off of instinctive reactive movements. thinking on the street can be very dangerous. you want to be able to react quickly and react effectively. we focus on eyes, authority,
8:17 am
groin. me or sean. >> whoever. > first thing i want to talk about, when we're talking about a stalking situation that could potentially escalate into a physical assault, the first thing, if he grabs my wrist, most people start flailing around and they panic. panic is the worst thing you can do. you just start making mistakes. if i just take my hand, grab my own hand and just twist quick establishing i'm exploiting a very quick joint here between the thumb and the finger. every time i come out of here it will release. there are certain situations that you might have to change the situation. for example, he has a bigger stronger grip and i know that might not work. maybe i hit him in the face. again, it's all about catching your attacker off guard. you just caught me off guard. if he starts pulling, i'm going to move into him. i'm not going to wait. if we get in a tug t of war
8:18 am
situation, he goes this way and i go that i'm going to lose if the aattacker is bigger than me. typically on the street your attacker is going to be bigger because they're taking advantage of somebody who they perceive is smaller. i'm going to attack the person highway think i can exploit and take advantage of. if this situation is i'm getting pulled and i go into the tug of war situation, i'm going to lose. that's fine if i come in present the side. most attacks you're not going to be looking. we spend a loft time focusing on attacks from behind. come in quickly and go right in. i have a question, a lot of women are walking around like me. we have a handbag, heels on, what do you in this situation where you have a lot of things weighing you down. the same principal i talked about with having a wrist pull can work against a bag. > show me. >> if i were to come over here
8:19 am
and grab your bag, you have a couple choices. one, you can let it go and runaway. let me have your bag. > it's a nice louie industry tan bag. if i grab your bag and you start going that way and i pull, you're going to end up ripping the straps. you get the straps, i get the good part, i runaway. i'm out of there. p i were to pull your bag, just turn, with this hand or the far hand. i pull here. you're going to come in and hit me, if that makes sense. when you get in that tug of war situation against something who is bigger and stronger, it's not going to work. if somebody comes behind you and grabs your bag, it's not going to work. if you can catch them off guard, again, the whole idea is they're not expecting you to defense yourself. >> true you. > the bad guy, i'm looking at you and saying this is somebody i can take advantage of, i'm
8:20 am
going to take the purse. i'm going to attack the person. they don't go and say i hope this person knows how to defense themselves from behind. it's all about catching somebody object off guard. > do you teaches. >> i do. cherry hill new jersey and also bordentown. we're teaching self defense for everyone all the way from seven to 82. > it's sad to think that seven years old have to sign up. it's good because you're dealing with bullying situations. there's a difference with the guy on the street and bullying. we teach them how to deal with bullying situations, how to get out of situations. the best defense you have is avoidance. whether it's a bully you can whatting down the haul or something that doesn't look right or feel right, get out of

8:32 am
are still in town, still in place, a lot of road closures are still in place to make sure things run smoothly today. this is supposed to be a non-violent protemple university. i was reading through the pamphlet that all of the marchs have access to it and in it they state explicitly that this is a non-violent protest, just a way to make their voices heard to the new trump administering. so i believe they are hoping it will remain pieceful. although of course everyone is on the lookout for anybody trying to disrupt the event or of course turn it violent. otherwise taint the protest. you don't want to mix up the message. 217 people were arrested. did a couple officers also get hurt? >> yes, six officers were hurt yesterday. three had head injuries. we are told that they're all non life threatening so all of the officers are expected to be okay. 217 people were arrested and will be charged with right why thing. we do appear am of them to
