keeping long distance couples close. ♪ from the fox 29 studios, this is "good day philadelphia" weekend. hey, good day everybody. it's sunday, january 22, 2017. scott is already calling me out. he's like you said you were going to wear red for your falcons. >> exactly. >> you have on black. >> it's not a dave mourning but their colors are red, black and white. >> uh-huh. >> i have a little red. die bring something i'll get you two to help me to decide what to wear for game day. it has red in it. i node your help. >> excellent. >> it's going to rain today. it's going to be windy later tonight. >> really the storm is going to pick up overnight tonight and into monday. so we're dealing with some of that fog, the mist, the drizzle out there this morning. parts of south jersey and delaware looking at light to moderate rain but the heaviest of the rain is overnight tonight and tomorrow. so really tomorrow is the key day. but as we look at ultimate doppler you can see that we are keeping tabs on some of those light to moderate showers in

particular down the shore right now. you can see cape may also avalon, sea isle city, as you move toward atlantic city you're socked in with the clouds. you're dealing with that light rainfall kind of moving through the area first thing this morning. if you're to the dealing with the rain you are dealing with the reduced visibility and also the dense fog but as we expand the view, take a look off to the west. the actual main system is still kind of churning right now around parts of the arc la connect around texas, louisiana and arkansas and all of that will head in our direction over the next 24 to 48 hours. so we still have a lot of moisture to get through over the next couple of days. so as far as the headlines, we're keeping tabs on that dense fog across the area. early on this sunday. once again heaviest of the rainfall not until tomorrow. but by tomorrow, look at this. we're talking winds gusting up to 50 maybe even 60 miles per hour so that could cause some problems. now, 46 degrees right now. look at that humidity.

it's high again this morning. 96%. so we do have that dense fog out there. visibility down to only 1 mile in atlantic city. down to two and a half miles in philadelphia. down to a quarter mile in wilmington. down to 1 mile in lancaster. so we do have dense fog advisories for the inland areas. take look at the temperatures. above average. low to mid 40s the average high for this time of year in philadelphia is 40 degrees so we're already 6 degrees above average. so kind of mild, kind of muggy if you're stepping outdoors. so look at that sunday forecast. 52 degrees. foggy, some drizzle around in center city down the shore cloud cover those morning showers. kind of foggy and muggy in the lee his valley temperatures top out in the upper 40s. so here's the concern once again the brunt of the storm as we move toward monday. we have high wind advisories inland areas. i-95 corridor high wind warnings down the shore winds here could gust up to 60 miles an hour. much more on the timing and also who will see the heaviest of the

rain, lauren, coming up. >> all right, scott, thank you so much. let's get to breaking news out of philadelphia's crescentville enabled. police searching for suspect they say broke into a jewelry store there and investigators say the burglary happened just before 2:00 o'clock this morning at kim tan jewelry store on the 5500 block of whitaker avenue. we don't know how much jewelry the suspect was able to get away with, but jewels were spotted on the ground at that scene. a police officer is in the hospital after being involved in an accident in west philadelphia. late last night. investigators were called to the 5700 block of girard avenue to find the police vehicle and two other cars at the crash scene. the front of cruiser pretty banked up. the officer and a person in another vehicle both taken to presbyterian medical center in stable condition. the cause of that crash is now under investigation. well tomorrow mayor jim kenney teaming up with the philadelphia commission on human relations to release a report on discrimination and racism win physical's lgbtq community. the findings coming out after a public hearing in october.

the new data coming just days after transgender woman says she was assaulted on the streets of center city. the victim in town for an lgbtq convention. jennifer joyce has more from the scene where this all happened. hi, jenny. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. live here in center city just across the street from city ha hall. it happened two days ago friday afternoon. we know that philadelphia police are actively pursuing this case. they have posted the facebook live video which documents the attack on their youtube channel so let's take look. police want to see if any body recognizes this man. it was friday afternoon when victim rihanna quigley a transgender woman from seattle started filming this video. she says she was walking with two friends across from city hall when a man approached and stared her up and down. rihanna says she asked what the look was for? and things escalated. when the name calling turned physical rihanna hit the record button. she is in town for a week long

lgbtq conference. she and others say far too often transgender women are targeted with hate. >> the man had approached me and had hit me first with some groceries or something and then he came at me again and punched me in night face and broke my sunglasses. >> this happens on a regular not just here in philadelphia all over the world, you know, transgender individuals especially transgender women of color are usually targeted. we are victimized. we're abused. we're murdered. >> reporter: rihanna did say she really appreciates the philadelphia police department acting swiftly and sensitively with this case. again, if you recognize that man, you're you were to do give police a call. lauren? >> jenny joyce, thank you so much. it all started as a simple social media post. it was a challenge for people to stand up for women's rights. well yesterday women's marches all around the world brought out more than 2 million people. here in philadelphia, the parkway was jam packed with an estimated 50,000 people much the march started at logan square

moved to eakins oval. the event priding itself on its peaceful approach. >> it's amazing. absolutely amazing to see our communities, the women, there are men here, there are children, older people, everybody come together for one great cause. it's awesome. >> philadelphia police say there were no arrests as a result of yesterday's demonstration, and in washington, d.c., an estimated 500,000 marchers squeezed on to the national mall with their friends, families and hand drawn signs. large crowds gathering in almost the same spot where president donald trump was sworn into office just one day before. the massive movement speaks to the power of social media. the idea was born in hawaii when a grandmother posted on facebook after hillary clinton lost the election. months later, an estimated to .6 million people participated in more than 600 marches in the us and 32 other countries. we never heard from the president about the w's march. he spoke from the cia

46 in wildwood. low 40s right now once you move north and west. as go hour by hour we have the morning clouds. the showers first thing down the shore but that activity will kind of move away but throughout the day we keep mostly cloudy skies so no sunshine on tap for your sunday. but then as we move later on tonight, we're watching another round of light rain moving in to parts of south jersey, also, in central southern delaware but the heaviest of the rain will hold off until tomorrow morning. back to work and school. look at the clock here 10am watching moderate to heavy rain kind of pivoting throughout the area for tomorrow and then by tomorrow night, we have most of that moisture tapering off colder air might rush in farther north and west to change things over to wintry precip mix. look at those future wind gusts. by 11:00 o'clock tonight gusting up to 30 miles an hour down the shore. and here's that concern by 9:00 a.m. on monday, we're talking winds in philadelphia gusting over 40 miles per hour. gusting over 50 miles per hour

type is the family that we call nsays or non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. >> ibuprofen, motrin, aspirin or neutrons sin all nsays. >> one of the main differences the nsaid family are anti-inflammatory so they're not just pain relievers. they reduce inflammation. tylenol has no anti-inflammatory properties so it is pure al pain reliever. >> reporter: for a headache or fever acetaminophen may be your best bet. >> if you sprain your ankle, if you stub your toe inflammatory type injuries you're better off taking anti-inflammatory pain reliever. >> reporter: but what about side effects? the doctor says there can be plenty. >> i think a lot of people underestimate the potential side effects and risk of over the counter pain medication. >> reporter: read the label, take only the recommended dose and keep in mind most side effects come with regular use. >> if you just use it sporadically there's less of an issue. >> reporter: common side

effects of tylenol include nausea and stomach pain and ibuprofen can cause stomach irritation. >> if you have a sensitive stomach take it with food. that's really critical. blood thin kearse can increase your risk of bleeding. >> reporter: i brew faux 10 can cause kidney problems and acetaminophen hassling to do liver damage. >> if you have underlying liver disease, you should star clear of acetaminophen and if you drink excess alcohol broken down by the liver you could steer clear of that. good tips to know. okay. if you take one of these over the counter medications regularly make sure your doctor knows. researchers say some issues like kidney or liver problems can only be detected by blood work. keep your cell phone close during your workout. a lot of you may use it to pump music your headphones. you might want to reconsider that. we will explain why, and kissing from far away.

heaviest of the rain won't really arrive until tomorrow. so as i expand the view take look at all of this moisture to get through off to the south. the main system that we're watching for tomorrow is still well out to the west. around places like arkansas and oklahoma. so that will kind of spin its way up the eastern seaboard along with a lot of that moisture. so we have the dense fog advisories for parts of the area this morning. the heaviest rain tomorrow and then that concern for winds gusting up to 50 even more miles per hour. so we have some of the fog. we have the humidity but look at the temperatures. mid 40s right now. that's six grease above the average for this time of year look at the fog 1 mile visibility right now atlantic city. quarter of a mile in wilmington along with trenton north and west. we're looking at about half a mile to a quarter of a mile. temperatures right now low mid fours across the area for today, we'll top out around 52 in center city. kind of foggy, some drizzle those morning showers down the shore 50 degrees. upper 40s in the lehigh valley. but look at the map. all of the colors.

injured. hand out some pretty powerful painkillers. >> correct. >> you think kind of does more damage than maybe what you're saying medical marijuana can do? >> well, what i'm looking at over all in the nation we're having a huge crisis with opioids right now. the numbers are one out of seven players in the nfl leaves the game with some sort of opiate addiction or problem, misuse. so what i'm saying is there's 22 out of 32nfl -- to out of 32nfl teams in a state where they offer medical marijuana as an alternative medicine and what i'm saying is, why won those 22 teams at least look into offering it to diverge from handing out opiate. >> doctor, your perspective from a medical standpoint. prohibition on cannabis has been a mistake from the beginning. it was never based on science, and its enforcement has been racially biased. and when you bring it down to the level of the nfl, it's

actually the same thing. it's interesting that of at some point mid season 19 players that were suspended for drug violations, 18 of those were african-americans. and i'm not saying there's inherent racial bias or intentional racial bias but it works out that way. and even if you think there's no good medical plick for cannabis it still should not be against the law and should not be against the rules for the nfl. it really should be treated like alcohol. >> some would say that it's too early to say. there's not enough research that proves exactly what the benefits of it is and so we should step out of that for now and just wait and find out. >> um-hmm. >> well i think that the biggest thing you have to listen to, um, the players actual ones going through it with their bodies and stuff. me personally, i use cannabis as very recreational to start through college and through my early days in the nfl. not until it was taken away from me by failing a test and getting put through the drug program by

the nfl i realized wow my pain is really catching up to me. i wasn't -- i didn't know i was using it as pain management but i was and now that i wasn't able to use it it was taken from me my body started to deteriorate and i noticed it so then what did i do? i went into the trainers to get what i can, and it turn out to be open 88s. i noticed how hypocritical it seemed they're trying to help me with my problem from marijuana something nobody ever died from and give me opiates which is one of the major problems in our country right now. >> is it that easy to go into a training room in the nf license get them like that without a prescription? >> um, if you have pain or issues or whatever, they'll be able to get i was prescription. >> gotcha. >> now, the nfl -- >> not the doctors are doing anything wrong. they're doing what they're allowed to at this point. >> sure. >> nfl they released a statement in regards to this. right now it's not something that we're actively considering. our doctors are always evaluating that. if they see they can improve our policies or what we can do

better to protect our players or help our players, we'll look at it ". >> do you think that's fair? >> the thing to keep in mind that the nfl doctors are bee holden to the nfl. harvard medical school recently came out with report about athletes and pain control and they said a couple of interesting things. one of them is that the doctors should not be be holden to the nfl in making clinical decisions. the other one which is really remarkable is saying that -- that the players health should not be used as a negotiating point in the collective bargaining agreement. why would we put that into the rules that's what the nfl is saying, look, the cba says this, and until our doctors tell us to change it, and the doctors who are be holden to us and listening to what we have to say, then we're not going to change anything and the doctors are not inclined to go against the nfl. we spoken with them privately and this is what some of them are telling. >> you both think the players to have the bigger voice?

>> obviously, the doctors need to weigh in but if you look at the evidence, if you look at the hundreds of studies done to show that the benefits of cannabis for pain are quiet clear and that the safety profiles a lot better, of course, listen to the athletes because they know their bodies, but also listen to the science and listen to what the evidence tells. >> it took a lot of guts to put your name to this, right? >> to me it just seems like a common sense thing. what the rising crisis with opiates and how many people a year or or dying from opiate overdoses i think it's important and for the nfl, the owners are always have our best interest in mind, and, you know, with that being such a problem right now they need to look to alternative route to help players manage their pain, and there's also properties they need research on because cannabis has some protective properties to it with all the scare with concussions and everything with the nfl i

concern winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour. so look at the reduced visibilities across the area down to 1 mile in atlantic city. we're looking at about quarter mile visibility once you move north and west of philadelphia. so just be careful on the roads. temperatures above average. we're looking at low 40s north and west. mid 40s right now along the i-95 corridor and parts of south jersey. so some light rain early this sunday morning. that will exit the coast but as i expand the view take look at this swirl off to the west. that's the main storm system that will head in our direction overnight tonight and during the day tomorrow. in fact look at how future wind gusts will really ramp up. 9am tomorrow morning, look at philadelphia. gusting over 40 miles per hour. gusting over 50 miles per hour down the shore so we can have some minor coastal flooding also beach erosion and there could be some sporadic power outages especially far north and west. how much rain are we talking about? on average one to 2-inches. much more on the timing of this very powerful storm system coming up.

lauren, back over to you. >> scott, thank you so much let's start with breaking news out of philadelphia crescen crescentville unable. police there searching for a suspect they say broke in a jewelry store and investigators say the burglary happened just before 2:00 o'clock this morning in kim tan jewelry store on the 5500 block of whitaker avenue. we do not know how much jewelry the suspect was able to get away but we do know jewels were spotted on the ground at that scene. a police officer is in the hospital after being involved in an accident in west philadelphia late last night. investigators were call to the 5700 block of girard avenue to find that police vehicle and two other cars at the scene. the fronts of the cruiser pretty banked up. the officer and another person in another vehicle were taken to presbyterian medical center in stable condition. the cause of that crash is now under investigation. tomorrow, mayor jim kenney teaming up with the philadelphia commission on human relations to release report on discrimination and racism within the philadelphia's lgbtq community the filing coming out of a

well women's marches all around the world bout out more than 2 million people yesterday. here in philadelphia the parkway was jam packed with an estimated 50,000 people. the march started at logan square moved to eakins oval. the event priding itself on its peaceful approach. >> amazing. absolutely amazing to see our communities, the women, there are men here, there are children, older people, everybody come together for one great cause much it's awesome. >> philadelphia police say there were no arrests as a result of yesterday's demonstration, and down in washington, d.c., an estimated 500,000 marchers squeezed on to the national mall with friends, families and those hand drawn signs we saw everywhere. the crowds gathering in almost the same spot where president donald trump was sworn into office just one day before. the massive movement speaks to the power of social media. the idea was born in hawaii when a grandmother posted on facebook after hillary clinton lost the election. months later an estimated 2.6 million people participated in more than 600 marches in the

foggy conditions on this sunday but temperatures are above average. look at this. we're in the mid 40s. 46 degrees right now philadelphia. humidity high at 93%. but take look at the reducing visibilities many locations down to a quarter of a mile places like trenton, wilmington once you move north and west dense fog advisories still in effect for the next several hours but take look at concern as we head toward monday. we have high win advisories along the i-95 corridor. but down the shore high wind warning in the warning area that's where winds could gust up to 60 miles per hour for your monday. we also have a coastal concern. coastal flood advisories in particular watching those high tides between 4am and 5am tomorrow and then again from four to 5:00 p.m. on your monday. but look at the water vapor imagery. this is the intensity of that powerful storm still off to the west. it will continue to head in our direction in several waves. so most of the heavy rain overnight tonight into your

in january. family holidays may influence when people file and many people wait until after big celebrations like christmas. here with us to explain it is family attorney amy goldstein. thanks so much for joining. >> good morning. >> so we make resolutions and we're all happy about our new lives in the new year but for some people it's not a fun time of year. >> well, people don't like to file for divorce during the holidays. so from basically from thanksgiving through new year's people like to hold off on starting the divorce because they want to try to keep the holidays a happy time for their family. so a lot of times people come in and talk to the attorneys before the holiday start. but they'll wait until after the holidays are over before they really start the process going. >> and i think that's amazing that they can sort of be that mature to say we'll come in, discuss this, wait it out, enjoy the holidays i say with air quotes and then we'll come back. >> right. >> how do they do that? that's their reasoning for that pause? usually kids? >> yeah it's usually chirp that they don't want to, you know, kids will always remember when the divorce started because

there's a lot of intensity and there's lot of tension when the divorce starts they'll remember for holidays going forward that will always be remember as the time the divorce starts. they don't want that to be part of the christmas or the hanukkah or whatever the holiday is they don't want that to be part of their memory the other reason the adults are also very busy and they're also very, you know, stressed out during the holidays doing all the things that they do during that season, so when you start divorce there's lot of, you know, work involved and you're seeing the attorney and you're doing paper work. so you don't want to add more stress and more work on yourself either during that season. so it's easier once the kids go back to school easier to start the process at that point. >> a little self interest not just for kids. >> when you say spike what type numbers are we talking about p. >> it gets very busy after january. tends to slow down in terms of new cases and that time period, and then it does people start really coming in in january and really starting. it doesn't mean you're filing right away you don't always file right i was it way. you're starting the pros in one way or another.

>> you can see drastic differences in january whether you're phone ringing more, more e-mails flooding your in box with people starting the proce process. for new clients starting the process, yes. in that time period, we have a lot of older cases that are finishing up. the courts like to finish up the older case in that time period so we're not any less busy but the new cases starting up tend to start up not in -- late objection or november. 10 to start up those cases tend to wait until january. it's definitely -- very noticeable. we didn't need a study to tell us that. it's very noticeable. >> you know why that is, right? save that money on the roses? >> valentine's day. >> right. >> safe money. what's another time, is there every another lull in the year where it sort of slows down or picks back up? >> you know right before school when people are very busy getting the kids ready for school at the end of the summer when people are back from vacations. and there are just kind of trying to reset themselves for the school year then it gets a little bit slower at that time also. >> it's good. awhile you're here, let me ask you how do you ease into a
