harris was the acting director, friends say she dedicated her live to planting trees and gardens throughout west philadelphia. they say it was her passion and she also took a special interest in employing the community's you'll. now friends say the 6584 old was well known and well liked. they're at a loss who would have murdered the active visit inside her own home last week. now police say harris was found with multiple gunshot wounds in her north holly street home last friday. authorities have made no arrests and they have no motive. today's vigil will be held in one of winnie's beloved gardens. those who know and loved her coming together to mourn the sudden and tragic loss of their friend. >> i don't understand why anybody would want to do such a thing to this lady. i mean, she was really loved by all. >> everyone knew her and everyone loved her, and it has been quite a shock. >> reporter: and as friends

lieutenant floyd's death are on going. he leaves behind wife 13 adult children. let's take look at the top stories this morning. an officer is recovering after witnesses say he was dragged by a car in west philadelphia of the witnesses say the officer had followed a jeep that took off from a crash scene. witnesses tell us when the officer approached the driver took off again throwing the officer to the ground near 57th and market. police confirm the officer was taken to presbyterian medical center with minor injuries and is expected to be released. a man is now in critical condition after being shot seven times. police say this happened around 3:00 o'clock this morning at his home along the 5700 block of north 19th street in southwest philadelphia. he's currently at einstein medical center. no word yet on any arrests. in south jersey, a man is dead after a police involved shooting in cumberland county. skyfox over the scene in bridgeton at north freemont and south of a yesterday afternoon. investigators say the man was running from police when one of the officers fired his gun.

that was devastating. >> of course. >> for any mother to find out. we made the decision to have him at chop. chop has a special delivery unit, and it was the best decision. we thought we were going to be able to take him home, let him grow a little bit before he could have his open heart surgery, but, um, when he came out, he just -- he could not oxygenate his blood properly hadn't to have surgery immediately. >> that's scary for you. you just delivered a baby and now the baby has to have surgery. >> he was taken to different unit. i got up from the delivery table and i walked over to stand next to him and be by his side the entire time. he is our miracle baby, and we're all just so proud of him. so he was in the hospital. he recover in thee days. >> wow. >> they sent him home three days later. i was a nervous wreck as you can imagine coming home. i was a nervous wreck. but he -- he's just -- he's just awesome. >> tell me this. he has to have more surgeries. >> he does. the one side of his heart

also septa says, it's added more cars to its market trang for neat following an early week announcement that dozens of cars were out of service because of cracks found in structural beams. the transportation company saying it has 21 six car trains available for service. allowing for trips every five minutes during peak periods. that means septa will stop those plummet mental bus schultz they were using along the market frankford route. ♪ it's been one week and police are still searching for whoever is responsible for gunning down beloved philadelphia activist winnie harris. today a vigil is planned in her honor. our sabina kuriakose is in west philadelphia with more on this story. hi, sabina. >> reporter: hey, good morning, lauren much this vigil comes as questions continue to swirl over the shooting death of this quiet 65-year-old woman in her -- inside her own home. now we're staning outside of uc green the non-profit where within 93 harris was acting executive director. harris worked hard to plant trees and gardens throughout

west philadelphia. greening public spaces and hiring youth workers. her body was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the bedroom of her home on north holly street last friday. so far police have made no arrests and they have not released any motive. harris lived alone and it was a concerned neighbors and relati relatives conducting a welfare check who found her body. now the vigil today will be held in one of winnie's favorite gardens to honor her. friends and colleagues say harris' live work can be seen and felt throughout west philadelphia. >> she's like force of nature. so she had motivation particularly about gardening and greening and like she got it done. >> it wasn't just her block. it was block after block after block. >> her impact can be felt throughout west philadelphia. she growned west philadelphia. >> reporter: now $20,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest of winnie harris' killer.

because it just seemed unimportant even mean spirited in the larger scheme of things. >> all the division, all the ranker, all the pettiness, you know, all the anger i'm not saying people don't have a right to be angry, peel don't have right to post but the constantly. >> dennis was spending more time in prayer and meditation and decided he wanted to do something that his son would appreciate. dylan was extremely socially active volunteering with everything from new jersey food banks to home building in honduras. his life inspired his father's. >> one of the times i came out of meditation, um, the thought came to me about a kindness challenge. they have the ice bucket challenge. the mannequin challenge, i don't even understand that. [ laughter ] >> the kindness challenge facebook group launched less than two weeks ago and has nearly 30,000 members already. they share stories of random kind acts, ask for help with their issues and support each other never forgetting the a

agreed goal is to be kind daily. ♪ >> i can say to the cashier how was your day? buy a coffee for the person behind me. people have gone out of their way now to, you know, check on their elderly neighbors. this has been going on forever. it's just that they forget some of these things. kindness challenge if nothing else can heal the vassalloly. >> at that point it's not going to be filled by anyone or anything. it's, um, you know we have hole in us and it's dylan shaped. >> reporter: but their loss has inspired tens of thousands to remember that life can be too short to be anything but kind. >> i'm happy that people are, you know, getting use out of it and it's become something that people find a little bright spot. >> and that the kindness challenge is something that their son would have gladly

gather from the west move through the ohio river valley and approach our area for tomorrow. so it's freezing 32 philadelphia. mid 50s louisville kentucky. 65 right now jackson mississip mississippi. 66 in dallas so some of that milder air is headed in our direction during the afternoon. so 51 degrees for the high temperature in center city. mid 50s down the shore. mid 40s above average in the lehigh valley. temperatures for tonight above freezing for many locations. the exception will be the poconos upper 20s. 36 in pottstown tonight. 40 in philadelphia. low 40s down the shore. so as we go buy hour by hour we're dry but cloudy for today. but watch the clock. and watch that moisture move in from the west so by tomorrow morning, into the afternoon, yes, we're looking at damp and dreary conditions. temperatures tomorrow top out in the mid 40s and it will feel colder with the cloud cover across the area. so overnight into sunday there is a winter weather advisory north and west for that wintry mix.
