how long this reality check winter will last. >> it's back. all right. scott, thank you so much. we're following breaking news this morning. shots ring out at a club in south philadelphia. sending a woman to the hospital. jennifer joyce live at police headquarters with the very latest on this shooting investigation. good morning, jenny. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. so according to police this woman was shot inside of club onyx in south philadelphia overnight. like you said she was trance rt port to do jefferson hospital. at this point we do not have her condition. police have been on the scene for of the last few hours. they're trying to figure out exactly what happened. police told our crew on the scene that there was some sort of fight that happened inside of the adult club when at least one gunshot was fired. police think the bullet went through glass which shattered and cut the victim. the woman injured is not a dancer but with a guest at the -- was a guest at the club. this club has had several problems with violence in recent years. there were fatal shooting on the property in both 2012 and 2013,

as well as other issues including reports of shots fired in the parking lot as recently as november, but, again, in this case overnight, at least one gunshot was believed to be fired inside of the club that hit a female guest. that woman was transported to jefferson hospital. no word on her condition the its at this point. lauren. >> thank you so much jenny. developing out of new orleans, a car plows right through a mardi gras parade injuring 28 people. a three-year-old and a police officer are among those injured. police say one person is in custody and is being investigated for a possible dui. investigators do not suspect terrorism. 21 out of the 28 people hurt were hospitalized with non light threatening injuries. and now to tra dee in texas much police in houston are searching for the person who shot and killed an eight-year-old girl in what they believe to be a case of road wage. little demari was in the car with her mom yesterday morning when police say two cars sped through a red light at an intersection crashed right into her mother's honda accord.

that's when one of the speeding drivers got out of the car and started shooting. demari was hit in the crossfire. she died at the hospital from her injuries. >> she didn't deserve this. she was just a baby. she's gone. the person that did this -- i just want to know the person who did this you took my baby. they took my heart. >> officers are looking for the driver of those two cars. so far no arrests have been made. back here at home in philadelphia, man found dead at a home in olney after being involved in some sort of incident with his pitbull. police found the 21-year-old unresponsive at a home around midnight on the 5300 block of rising sun avenue. the man was rushed to einstein medical center with facial injuries. investigators are not saying how the eight month old dog may have been involved in its new owner's death. over in camden county police name a suspect in a sexual assault. more than a month old police are

look for 32-year-old ike fitzpatrick he sexua sexually ad assault add woman at seventh and thurman streets in camden back on january 15ly. if you have any information on his whereabouts give police a call. business bee and his lawyers will be back in court tomorrow morning asking a judge to allow jurors to be selected from other county. last week montgomery county judge ruled that only one additional accuser can testify against the embattled comedian. that means prosecutors cannot call 12 other women to the stand to support charges their claims that cosby drugged and molested several women at his estate. cosby's trial begins in june for allegedly sexually assaulting andrea constand a former temple university employee. now to top stories from our area. stephanie hanson won a special election yesterday for the delaware senate seat vacated by now lieutenant governor bethenny hall long after winning hanson tweeted out, i am so honored to be your new senator and i can't wait to get to work.

voters decided democrats will maintain their grasp on the state government delaware remains one of about five states where democrats hold the legislature and the governor's seat. the white house continuing its fight against the media and working to combat critical news reports linking the trump campaign to russia. all of this played out the president made a surprise announcement on twitter. he tweeted "i will not be attending the white house correspondents association dinner this year. please wish everyone well and have a great evening ". the statement reinforces the president's media stance echoing remarks he made at the conservative political action conference on friday. >> two days ago i called the fake news the enemy of the people and they are. they are the enemy of the peop people. because they have no sources, they just make them up when there are none. >> leading democrats responded to the president their comments coming as they were in atlanta choosing their new leader for the democratic national committee.

and thunderstorms that kind of moved in from west to east. downpours, lightning, and also very gusty winds as that system just kind of pulled through the area. but behind that system, of course, we are looking at dry conditions but it is chilly stepping outdoors. so as we go hour by hour, we're dry but we have a lot of sunshine for your sunday and temperatures, yeah, they are going to stay right where we should for this time of year. yeah, 46 degrees. that is the reality check for today. but that's actually seasonal. 45 degrees down the shore and low 40s for the lehigh valley. we talked about the daytona 500 nascar forecast later on this afternoon right here on fox 29. it looks pretty good down in daytona. temperatures will be in the upper 60s. guys back over to you. >> ♪ recent college graduate told bill anderson he was ready for law school an surprisin surprisl issue almost chased his life. his road to recovery means spreading positive message and

some of the images from his medical journey a little graphic but he wanted to share his entire story to help inspire others for goodness sake. ♪ >> reporter: life was going well for brent wiley. he was 23 years old, graduated with honors from clark atlanta university and was planning to go to law school. like so many others his age he was meeting friends one weekend to party and that's when he told me his life immediately changed. >> i remember turning the corner to walk into the club and i just fell over. not a trip. i just fell flat down like face first. >> reporter: brent was healthy young man with no medical history. aware and initially embarrassed falling outside of the club and people yelling at him as if he was drunk or on drugs and telling him just get up. so he tried. >> the bouncers were like, trying to stand me up against the wall and then i kept -- every time they tried to stand me up i get slipping. once they did that for like the second or third time, they were like we think you had a stroke. >> reporter: he was shocked

and still in disbelief but not fully grasping the situation. it wasn't until friends called his mother that the severity of what happened began to sing in. >> they talk to us and showed us x-rays and said, you know, his brain is swelling and if it has nowhere to go, it's going to start to go inward, and that could kill him. so they said we have to -- we have to do this operation. >> reporter: that operation involved removing a large piece of brent's skull but that was just the beginning. recovery meant physical therapy, experimental and alternative medicine and diet changes. although brent and his mother are appreciative of the actions of their medical team, they said they became aware of the lack of resources and support particularly for young stroke victims. >> when i left like in patient i thought i was going to get a certain amount of things to help me get back but i just kind of left with -- they gave me a wheelchair. i know i'm not going to be in a wheelchair forever. >> reporter: five years later,

law school was put on hold because of issues with seizures and present decided that he needed to take his knowledge but also his challenges and start a new foundation to try to help others in similar situations. >> what's your foundation? it's war non-profit. >> team brent at the stroke midnight. i started my foundation because not only -- obviously to raise awareness but to help people get the things they need because there's only so much insurance will do. report the report brent created a movie sharing his struggle, his information and his positive attitude that doctors say has made all the difference in recovering from such a major stroke. >> i know for fact i'm going to get better, but it takes time, and it takes a lot of work, and you need those things to get there, and i'm doing my best to help not just me but everybody else get them. >> reporter: brent wiley started as an example of dedication and achievement. suffered a major set back that he believes redirected him to another purpose and now that purpose will hopefully inspire

keep smokers addicted topo tobacco $35 for every person who lives in philadelphia. here with helpful tips to quit smoking dr. frank leone. good morning and thanks for coming in. >> good morning. thanks so much for having me. >> what an expensive habit on both sides. >> it really is. there's a lot of money that's poured into keeping people smoking every year. markemarketing, gimmicks, give s that sort of thing actually keeps people addicted. >> so the addiction is one problem and trying to quit is another problem for people. >> sure. the way nicotine work in the brain the addiction actually does change behaviors and so all of a sudden the nicotine works in the parts of the brain that control instincts survival instinctings that in turn controls behaviors. when people try to quit, they often find themselves feeling agitated, nervous, it becomes difficult for them to deal with stress and so quitting all of a sudden gets put off another day before you know it 20, 30 years

go by. >> would you recommend the gum because i feel like that that's the number one go to for the people that are trying to quit smoking. >> or maybe the patch. do they do that still? >> what do you recommend. >> sure. i rem everybody get some help. so you need a little bit of advice from somebody who has been around the block once or twice before. that might be a counselor, your doctor, or like a pen we have specialists that actual dollar this all day every day. that's what we think about. but in addition to that, you really need help really requires a little bit of nicotine replacement. either the patch or the gum they can be used together fresh ex, there's also a few different types of medications that can help a person control those instincts that keep them smoking and actually make quitting an awful lot easier. >> it's also helpful you have experience from someone whose gone through it before. maybe to talk it through with someone who finally kick the habit. >> definitely. >> that's super helpful, right. >> absolutely. i would say -- i would say, um, the thing about that find somebody who isn't exactly just

anti-smoking. isn't right. >> so being helpful doesn't just mean focusing on why it's important not to smoke. being helpful also means focusing on what it means to be a person who struggling with this problem. we think about that as opposed to being anti-smoking, we think about that as being pro smoker. advocating on behalf of the person with this issue. not accepting the on-going behavior, not accepting or compromising with the addiction but really advocating on behalf of the person being very helpf helpful. helping the process to continue to move forward. >> dock i think sometimes we don't know for non smokers if you never smoke before how serious of an addiction it is. >> right. >> some people try cold turkey. maybe is that too much? do you have to sort of wean your way off of this? >> so nicotine as a drug actually believe it or not is more addictive than heroin. >> wow! >> yeah. so in that context what i mean ability to compel behaviors much more substantially than even heroin does.

>> wow! >> as a consequence it goes on for lifetime. it's very difficult for people to stop sometimes without help. i think quitting should be easy. if quitting is hard, you're not getting the kind of help that& you need. you're more likely to stay quit longer and to achieve the positive health benefits of quitting if you work to make the quitting easy. >> i got last one for me quick quickly. vapeing. >> right. >> that seems to be picking up e-cigarettes but even more than that the actual vaping it seems like there's flavored all of that. >> yeah. >> is that a good substitute or would you not want to go down that path as well yes. >> it's not a good substitute yet. there's a lot of people who say that it is but that's really built on a believe that it has to be safer than smoking cigarettes. in fact it's turning out that the stuff that makes the fake smoke and all those chemicals that result in the flavors actually have very complicated chemistry that result in lot of inflammation in the lungs. >> makes sense. >> all those chemicals get absorb. metabolism all those chemicals

through. high temperature today 46 philadelphia. mid 40s down the shore. only low 40s in the lehigh valley. back over to you. >> all right, scott, thank you so much. start with breaking news. shots wink at a club in south philadelphia send a woman to the hospital. jennifer joyce is live at police headquarters with the latest on this investigation. good morning, jenny. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. as you mentioned that woman was shot inside of club onyx which is in south philadelphia. it happened overnight and that woman was transported to jefferson hospital at this point we're not quite sure how she's doing. and police have been at the scene investigating trying to get a better handle on what happened overnight. police toll our crew on the scene that there was some sort of fight that happened inside of the adult club when at least one gunshot was fired. police think the bullet went through the glass which shattered and cut the victim. the woman injured is not a dancer but was a guest at the club according to officers on scene. this club has had several problems with violence in recent years. there were fatal shootings on

the property in both 2012 and 2013 as well as other issues including reports of shots fired in the parking lot as recently as november. but, again, in this case overnight, at least one gunshot was believed to be fired inside the club hitting a female guest. that woman was transported to jefferson hospital again at this point we don't know how she's doing. lauren. >> jenny, thank you so much. and developing out of new orleans a car plowed through mardi gras parade injuring 28 people. a three-year-old an police officer are among those injured. police say one person is in custody and being investigated for a possible dui. investigators do not suspect terrorism. 21 out of the 28 people hurt were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. back here in philadelphia, man found dead in olney after being involved some sort of incident with his pitbull. police found the 21-year-old unresponsive at a home around midnight on the 5300 block of rising sun avenue. the man was rushed to einstein medical center with facial

injuries. investigators are not saying much about how that eight month old dog may have been involved in its new owner's death. camden county police named suspect in the sexual assault that's more than a month old. police are looking for 32 year many ike fitzpatrick they say he sexually assaulted and robbed a woman at seventh and thurman streets in camden back on january 15th. if you if you've seen him or have any information on his whereabouts, you're asked to call police. bill cosby and his lawyers will be back in court tomorrow morning. they are asking a judge to allow jurors to be selected from another county. last week montgomery county judge ruled that only one additional accuser can testify against the embattled comedian. that means prosecutors cannot call 12 other women to the stand to support their claims that cosby drugged and molested several women at his estate. cosby's trial begins in june for allegedly sexually assaulting andrea constand a former temple university employee. the trump administration
