regarding addiction and a struggle to become clean. jay, i know you have a lot to say. what do you feel about what happened since? >> well, that next high, i still have that feeling 13 years later. and it's important that addicts know that that's never going to go away. you just have to figure out a way to manage that feeling. >> jay, let me ask you. at any point does anger creep into this conversation? >> i am mad. and i think that's okay. i'm mad of what he's done to his mother. i'm ashamed because of what it made me do to my mother. and all of these people who are mad at him right now, we're all going to forgive him. the minute he gets his act together. his family has been dealing with this for fife years. cristy, that was the first time she saw a real smile in years. that night. >> how much do cameras and all the attention of viewers play

in a role of somebody trying to recover? >> it's hard to say. but i think pressure is a privilege and the cameras that were in his face, they absolutely gave him a lifeline, and we should congratulate ourselves because not only have we made a valiant effort to save someone's life but this show has raised so much awareness. i think we've woken new jersey up by now. >> when we first had this story about tj going to rehab, there were so many people rooting for him. but we have to remember like you said a lot of pressure, and i think that's why he went back to the streets. >> he did not have to talk to me on friday. he could have walked right away from me, but i think the reason he's doing that is for others to see what he's going through so maybe he can help his family, and he left a message to some parents out there. >> i don't know what to tell the people who are already in a using situation. i know for the parents who thinks their kids might be using or notice a difference in their kids, they really --

new jersey. authorities are still trying to identify the man who was murdered inside his apartment. believed to be the first murder in this county in eight years. now, authorities are still investigating and the scene was still an active one. they were going door-to-door to a few of the japanese restaurants in the area showing the picture of the victim and asking if he had been employed there. now, very few details are available on the case as of this early day. we know the police say that the man was found inside his department and was killed some time there before 3:00 on sunday. now, as of monday night, the killer is it still at large and police are on his trail. anyone with information should contact crime stoppers. we'll keep you updated on this developing story. follow the show at chasing news. follow me today. >> one of my favorite tv shows is the golden girls. the show starring b arthur, betty white ran from 1985 to 1992 and is still rerun on

different channels today. so when i heard a golden girls-themed cafe in washington heights, new york city, i put on my golden girls t-shirts that ashley was kind enough to get for me, and that's where i was headed. >> you really wear a golden can girls t-shirt? >> yeah. ♪ [laughter] >> the cafe was opened in friday by michael who is the best friend. the two met 17 years ago and remain good friends until her death in 2010. >> when she got sick and opened her papers, they found out she had nominated me to take over her business and personal affairs. >> so after she passed away, michael was going through her different belongings, so when he was bringing stuff to storage one day, he thought there was a spot that a cafe would go. so he thought why not open a cafe and put some of her belongings on display? apparently she was a bit of a

hoarder. >> we should have this place for people to see her things and find out more about this amazing woman. >> it plays on repeat as you would imagine. the walls are covered with both her professional and personal. >> that's why i put that picture up over there of her sick husband because rue was exactly like blanch. we talked about boys up until the day she died within an hour of her death. >> she was a wild woman on the show. i have no other phrase. so also i'll point out the cafe is her emmy, the outfit she had worn and even the phone she took from the golden girls set. >> now, rue never used the word steal. she said silch. >> that's a great word. >> a letter written by betty white herself. so i said have you talked to her? is she coming any time soon?

. >> so where exactly are we headed? >> to the rec center, which is where the park rangers officially meet up and all of that, you know? >> frankie is arguably the face of pedy cab driving in new york city. but as much fun as it is to take tours of new york city in the pedy cab, pedaling ain't easy. told me about the constant harassment he gets from park rangers, and he told me that last thursday was really bad, so he actually pulled out his phone and recorded the incident and here it is. . >> when you guys get caught, you're trying to blame everybody. >> okay. >> meanwhile you are the ones that are always doing the thing. >> so, again, let me ask you. how many times do you have to come out here. >> all the time. >> and see me or that other fella right here. >> all the time. >> i ask you questions, i never give you nothing. you think you don't break the rules. but from now on --

>> the way this incident ended was with frankie getting three summonses and getting his pedy cab driver's license confiscated. frankie took me back to the site where this happened near columbus circle in central park. >> they gave you three tickets, and they confiscated your pedy cab license. >> official pedy cab license. >> because you parked past this gate? >> yeah. because after the gate right here, there's no pedy cab supposed to park, but they know that there's so many pedy cab drivers that they gave us a leansiantcy to park here. >> beyond the gate? >> yes. >> it was 50 bucks for gnashing nondesignated parking area and another 150 bucks for reducing to give his id when he was asked and another 50 bucks for not having a valid pedy cab driver's license. i want to get to the bottom of this ride with frankie to central park up to the central park rangers office by the north meadow recreation center. >> i'm with chasing news. but frankie does have an

issue. >> okay. >> you're not talking to me. frankie has an issue that he wants to talk with you about. >> yeah. so yesterday you took my pedy cab license away unlegitimately, and i would like it back. >> as we're walking back to frankie pedy cab, and i ask how frankie feels. >> totally disappointed. >> why? >> well, because -- >> you didn't get your license back. >> yeah. we didn't get our license back. we didn't get to talk to this guy. clearly, what's the issue? >> he had to get another pedy cab license the next day because he's losing money. he has two children, he pays child support, and he can't afford to not be on his pedy cab pedaling. the next day i talked to him on the phone, and they gave back his license. >> so i got my license back. this one right here. this is the one they took. >> so, jay, have you ever ridden in a pedy cab? >> no. i've been in a cab and been petty, but i've never

been in a pedy cab. >> i have never ridden in one in the united states. in other countries. >> it's incredibly dangerous. new york city traffic. i mean, there are huge trucks, cars. and you're on this little thing pedaling. >> i use uber. sometimes gives you a piggyback ride wherever you want to go. you just jump on his back. >> i'm going to outsmall government you on this one. there aren't any regulations on these guys at all. >> thanks. >> i just got a statement back from the new york city parks department. frankie was right. they never should have taken away his pedy cab driver's license. it was valid and in good standing. they admitted their error. here's the statement they sent me quote the parks enforcement patrol erroneously issued the same driver, meaning frankie, a summons for not being properly licensed. but that summons has been retracted. they elaborated.

the park enforcement patrol found that the driver, meaning frankie, did have standing as a license pedy cab driver and ultimately has retracted the summonses and returned his license. now frankie has two other summonses that he got that day that he plans to fight in court. >> 26-year-old adam from river edge, new jersey is in the express lay to fame and fortune. check out the north jersey on this month's cover of dna magazine. >> i was extremely flattered. i was bragging about it like i said to my girlfriend and everything, and she was obviously teasing me about it. >> but i caught up with the fitness sensation at his gym retrofitness. to hear how he took a leap of faith to get to where he is today from bagging groceries at shop right two years ago. >> just got up one day, and i said -- literally woke up and said i want to do something that i truly love, and i want to help people out. what i was doing, i was basically killing myself. i was working 50, 60, 70 hours a week trying to be a personal

trainer, get my certification at the time and then put my name out there for modeling. so like i said, i'm, like, what am i going to believe of? am i going to give up on my dream? if you don't follow your dream, i honestly guarantee you will regret that down the road. >> gave up his benefits so that he could train and body build and he said when he first started, he was actually pretty self-conscious. >> i never had any conscious for myself. i felt people would walk all over me. >> he got discovered by a photographer who was at the gym and said, hey, you look great. so the photographer is who helped him get his modeling. so i had adam coach me through one of his workouts. >> i kind of go with a halfway grip. close grip to wide grip. it's the most comfortable. >> which was actually pretty intense. but he said i did a great job. >> crushed it, guys. crushed it. >> and actually next month woodbridge will be his first bodybuilding contest and so he has a strict diet right now,

and he's pretty much in the gym every day. >> i give so much respect for somebody who goes after -- ♪ -- his dreams without caring about losing benefits or losing steady income -- ♪ -- and because it's hard. it's really hard. and so -- ♪ -- i love that he went for it, and i wish him the best of luck. >> i don't want to be against the antinarrative and be the antihero but he gave up a paycheck at shop right to pursue his dreams. [laughter] >> i didn't know. i didn't know shop right gave benefits. >> well, i think it's the contrast of a clerk job at shop right and getting to this point. it doesn't have to be a knock on shop right. shop right, which instantly has delicious fried chicken. >> hi, bill. i'm just a delicious piece of fried chicken. come eat me.

>> i had to go, and it was just one of those things that had to be done. >> now, we learned about jim from jim, who is right down the road about a year ago, she decided to dedicate a wall in her shop to local veterans. >> as people were seeing the wall, i would have people, you know, say, oh, i'm a vet, you know, can you take my picture? or i would have people go into the cemetery, there's a vet cemetery down the road, and they would ask for their loved ones to be put up. so absolutely. >> dawn started this because she really understand to find a way to involve the community and honor local veterans. >> that's me. >> i asked jim what the wall meant to him. >> hour heroes, they are people who gave everything they had to serve their country. >> as a reminder, all of our nominees are nominated. so if you have somebody that you would like honored, send us an e-mail to military monday@chasingnews.com.
