she clawed at and fought her killer but her family and neighborhood were not there to help her, ideas of total security, in the place where she grew up in, were made in to a myth, by a stranger, and acres of tall weeds, one moment former safe haven of howard beach turned into a dark place. and her family descended into a long year of pain, i have been covering this story since just after phil and kathy vetrano buried their daughter last august, no one knew at that point what happened. was it a random attack. did she have a stalker, was there a killer watching and waiting to strike again. tensions ran high. the wives and children of the firefighters contractors and cops, who make up howard beach, they boil over with anger at one of the meetings. >> it took the life, a life. >> thank you. >> it took a life is, that not

their daughter. looking this person in the eye, not know figure they will hear more horrors about the way karina died or simple bureaucracy for anes an emotionr torment that now has a docket number. they have a memorial walk for karina along the steps she jogged the afternoon she died, another season, another summer, the weeds back in full force, in a way we're all latest in the weeds, the murder of the random. that is hard for the people of howard beach, hard for anyone to accept. ining in, addition, residents ae concerned about safety conditions in park, and national

looks like, a series of white pipes on a utility pope, markin- pole, marking areas where they can activities, just days after a heated town hall meeting, 200 residents showed up, they felt that everyone should have to complete with the ordinances. some were vandalized over the weekend. it was repaired by the hasidic community, and police are investigating this as a bias crime. and they tell me, they have several leads, with the firestorm we have seen in mahwah, some people question, as you said, is mahwah sending a message of antisystem simp? >anti-semitism.
