governor kim lugano. welcome to chasing news. >> think of happened me on. >> i want to ask you, today governor christie is traveling so that makes you the governor today. with the rising tension with north korea, i have two questions. one, what to do has the governor today to prepare, if anything, or is there anything or state government is doing? and what does this mean for the local area for new york and new jersey, given the size of the joint base that we have a new jersey, and all the folks that have loved ones deployed overseas? >> first, everybody should know that like any possible emergency, were in contact with the appropriate officials from the federal, state, county level. everybody is prepared in the event of any emergency. weather comes from new jersey or korea. everybody should understand that is not something new to this administration. not something new for me.

is something we have dealt with many levels under many circumstances. second, you new jersey is uniquely qualified to respond. never forget that after 9/11, the first airplanes up where the f-16s from atlantic city. we were the first ones up in the air after that, within 15 minutes of the striking of the second tower. unfortunately, it is really the west coast that is the target if anything should happen. i'm glad to hear that the un have sanctions and all of the countries of the world have come together to make sure something awful does not happen. but, if it is a new jersey we are prepared. >> as a mom, the son was in the air force, who is training as a pilot, where are you on this? >> that's an easy one. when he signed up to go to the united states air force academy, i was very proud. at that time, the world was a

little different place. now, he is a pilot and he is training in an f-16. those are what fly over korea. so, i have a personal interest in making sure that the country in the world keeps north korea calm. i'm sure that we will with all of the sanctions that we have seen and nikki haley being able to bring to the table at the un. >> does this have any impact on your campaign? your running to governor to replace chris christie, you have an opponent who is a former opponent, does this tension color the campaign at all. >> i think it's an issue that is to be handled by washington. it's something as a governor that we have to be aware of. that's how are concerned but it terms of the gubernatorial issue no. >> wayne smith is with us. good heavy here and a member of

the county government, welcome back. >> thank you. >> you heard the conversation, we get the president of the united states your new jersey. we have the joint base, and new jersey is at the center you may say of this crisis in that sense. what you think this means to our local economy ? our local defense preparedness of people in the military? >> i would think and have a better former mayor and served as the emergency management coordinator for the local government, if you're hosting the president your security is ratcheted up. in light of the tension i would think it's even more. i think the president style really scares a lot of people in terms of how he negotiates for

policy in the open press. on twitter. so, people are concerned, the fire the fury. >> think about that. fire and fury twitter, i heard the this morning we had a conversation on the radio about it. i said are we happy that we have somebody standing up for us? >> i'm happy that we have someone who standing up for us. his words are very strong, but there's a lot of rhetoric. it's the first time that north korea has actually hurt somebody actually say don't mess with around with us. we are not going to take what you do anymore. we are done. >> what you think? other two sides to it? the political side and actions i? >> i think you can play to the press and made like you're standing for us, but you have to do that smart strategically. and would that be something strategically smarter? >> a surprise that some of the detractors are more surprised on the presidents comments in the dictator north korea? >> is both ways. osama bin laden, we had no idea the united states government was going to kidnap him. there's no rhetoric in the atmosphere, decimated safer.

>> welcome back to jason news. i'm bill. we have a story for you today about solar energy. as much as i want to talk about how inefficient and ineffective i think solar energy is, i can't talk about that. in the face of what is such a gross incompetence on the part of three new jersey county governments, costing taxpayers tens of millions of dollars because somebody was asleep at the switch. will bring in alex for details of this troubling sort. >> taxpayers and three new jersey counties might be on the hook for 26 million-dollar bailout of a solar company after the project is left is get shambles. they heard of a deal but it's too good to be true. they do it at no cost to the taxpayers or wait reap the benefits of the profits.

the project was mistake when you're, took five. on wednesday, matt boxer told us what went wrong. >> the administration of this project was a perfect storm. this county was a victim of that. the project was a public-private partnership. a developer name sunlight, a contractor named matt tech who are the only bidders to put in for the project, boxer says they should've seen it as a red flag right away. now boxer stop short of saying any of this was criminal. he called it a gigantic mistake. some, including assemblyman have called for federal investigation. boxer said that one of the

glaring missteps was a 12 person committee designed to see whether or not the project would work. nine of the people on the committee have something to gain financially from the project. the other three county employees told the investigators they never even knew they were on their board. >> thank you. welcome back to our panel, wayne smith, president ceo. and serena, you are a member of the county government. i wasn't -- all county government. you heard the story. three counties, three republican counties contracting out solar energy they thought that it was so good it is going to pay us. of course, fell apart. the first question, about county government, i for one am not surprised. six years, how did it take them six years? >> i would tell you that it would not happen in mammoth. >> but you didn't do it when

given the same opportunity, why? >> it wasn't a pan out financially. we said it wasn't going to work. in this case, the fact that was supposed to be done in one year and six years later -- at some point there's a process that you have to go through to do this stuff. >> wayne, wise government so broken? this is gross incompetence. people should be fired. you are stuck foot in the bill for their incompetence. >> in this case is true. we had three employees and none of them knew they were on the board. which clearly shows that there is no coordination between the three counties. everybody fell asleep at the switch. at the end of the day, the taxpayer suffers. i will say this, government, as well as society has to look at innovations. we should take risk on occasion to look at things that might reduce costs, but six years is a long experiment. >> almost $30 million in the taxpayers will have to foot the spill. incompetence doesn't breed into something criminal. at the same time, -- wise and

local government incentivizing companies to come in instead of coming up with project after project. >> will bring a good tax dollars for them. they said it was a project too good to be true, if it's too good to be true, it is. >> it seems to me there chasing a fantasy on this whole alternative energy. the chase because he already got an incredible efficiency and natural gas. the parrying 80% of homes in jersey. wise and the government doing more to help people what is naturally doing in the market instead of putting you on the hook for nearly $30 million. agree, disagree? tweet me or tweet the show at chasing news. i want to thank our panel today.

it will still feel damp. maybe we'll get nothing falling from the sky. by sunday afternoon heavy rain picks up, could be thunderstorms in there as well. overall about an inch and rain by the end of the day. saturday is a wet day, high temperature somewhere in the 70s or 80s. it's hard to pinpoint sunday forecast is looking much better. and dryer. i would be silly to completely rule out a shower, but i'm optimistic thinking it will be partly sunny skies and lower and humidity. warm temperatures and in the low to mid 80s. high pressure builds and next week so pleasant forecast for monday and beyond. stay dry and safe this weekend. >> here's a look at some of the headlines were chasing today. police released video of a car falling from the seventh floor of a parking garage in austin,

called camp oakhurst in oakhurst, new jersey. the campers are the reason why it's so special. it's a place where they come, meet some friends, make lifelong friends and have a week that they would not have anywhere else. i met some of these awesome kids during their lunch break. they are not short of energy and not short of smiles. >> what you enjoy about camp the most? >> the pool is the most fun thing ever. and arts and crafts is my favorite because i like to draw. >> what kind of stuff to draw? >> superheroes. >> mda.org runs the camp for children from new jersey and new york. they bring about 50 kids in here and guess what? it's all paid by their sponsors. it doesn't cost the families any money. the people that are working here, the amazing men and women
