67 degrees. wildwood a little bit warmer than rest of us at 72. allentown sitting at 62 degrees. mount pocono at 58. and then for the next few hours, we'll see temperatures rise into the mid 70s about 74 degrees 9:00 o'clock. lots of sunshine. those winds out of the northwest 10 miles per hour. but despite those northwesterly winds there's a lot of sunshine we're working with and that is going to really heat temperatures up. we've got temperatures into the upper 80s. lots of sunshine. now this is a warm temperatu. wt until you see your seven day forecast. we actually have a your seven d. i'll let you know when coming up in just bit, lauren. >> monica, thank you very much. 7:02 this morning. let's start with break news. suspect in the hospital after being shot by police. sabina kuriakose live in north philadelphia with exactly what happened. hi, sabina. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. well, eyewitnesses tell me this all went down in the alley that you see just behind me. now this morning we have two accounts coming into us.

one from police and one from the people who live here and who were here on what they say happened. let's go to video right now. here's what police say occur. around 5:00 aft 11:00 a bike sergeant and two officers were on patrol along the 2500 block of alter street just off germantown avenue here in north philadelphia. now they say they saw a man standing between two cars with a gun in his hand and here's what philadelphia police say happened next. >> sergeant gave orders fort male to drop the gun. the male started running on fo foot. he fled on foot. fled through an al old south end of the block an alley between a yard and a house. and at that time the male did turn around point the gun at the officer. the sergeant i should say at that time the sergeant did discharge his firearm. >> reporter: back out here live, now that man is in critical condition at temple university hospital. he has two gunshot wounds. one to his lower back and the other to his leg. now, this morning i spoke with the man's friend an eyewitness

off camera. he tells me that his friend was already running away from police when officers discharged their weapons. he says that the sergeant actually followed his friend moot alley and continued to shoot. now last night there was a large crowd out here gathered we'll have much more on that coming up in half an hour. i also wanted to mention that police did not mention to us last night whether there was any returned fire. eyewitnesses say they weren't. we're stitt still waiting on authorities to tell us that. much more coming up in a half hour. back to you lauren. >> thank you for the update. new overnight one person is dead this morning after driving the wrong way on the new jersey turnpike. the accident happened around 11:30 last night in the northbound lanes near exit four. police say an suv was driving southbound in the northbound lanes when they crashed head on into another suv. the wrong way driver was killed. two people in the other car were taken to cooper hospital wit. now to our top stories, a second kiss shot friday night dd from his injuries the officers were checking on suspected drug

activity in a neighborhood south of orlando when they were shot multiple times. officer matthew baxter died friday night at the hospital shortly after that shooting sergeant sam howard died yesterday afternoon. one suspect is now charged with first degree murder with other charges now pending. meanwhile neighbors are bringing flowers, letters of gratitude and messages of love as the community mourns the loss of 22 men who made the ultimate sacrifice serving their communities. >> you feel like a punch in your chest, but when it happens so close it was -- it's traumatic. >> let them police officers know that we're here. not everyone feel what these people whoever they are that did -- it's wrong. i hope that their time will co come. >> and to jacksonville officers expected to be okay after both were shot. the sheriff just after 11:00 o'clock on friday a a couple was fighting when police arrived on the scene derek, died

it's something to distract us from all the bad news i really have been enjoying the solar eclipse stuff. but here we are looking at down the shore and temperatures at about 67 degrees. dew points following in behind at 61. those winds out of the northwest talking about 7 miles per hour but a really nice start to our sunday. if people are still down the shore. it's going to be really nice one. all from this high pressure system that we have off to the west of us but it's in control of the forecast. you can really see through the mid atlantic and even into the northeast a lot of us are dry and sunny to start with today. and so that's how we're going to finish our day up as we head into sunday afternoon. we'll actually see more sunshine as well. so here's a look at your future cast. i'll push it through not much to talk about as we head into our sunday through our sunday. and then by monday, monday morning we'll wake up there's going to be little bit more cloud cover early monday morning. and then it does say this is one model is saying there could be a few isolated showers as we head into monday afternoon. not everybody is going to be seeing some wet weather. i know a lot of people are

hoping to get outdoors and look for the solar eclipse. if you can do it safely. well at this point it does look like a lot of us will be dry. you just may see a few isolated showers popping up as we head into the afternoon. now let's take look at the national forecast. because of course as we head into monday afternoon everybody is going to be heading outdoors to look at that eclipse. and we are seeing some rain in a lot of cloud cover through the central u.s. and right as we head into the afternoon it's going to be a tough one for parts of areas like in nebraska and back into down towards the south into texas. they've got some weather they're contending with. so viewing won't be that easy. as we head into monday we're at 88 degrees and this is what i was talking about, lauren, 92 by tuesday. >> ooh, all right. thank you so much, monica. dick gregory civil rights activist and comedian died yesterday at 84 years old. this morning america remembering his laugh, his fight and his courage. gregory devoted his life to bring awareness to social causes

more cloud cover tomorrow i'll talk more about that coming up in the full forecast. i'll show you your future cast and kind of the cloud cover that we are expecting in the afternoon. lauren. >> okay. look forward to that. breaking right now the details of a police involved shooting unfolding after a man pointed a gun at bike officers last night in north philadelphia. sabina kuriakose is at the scene with the latest details. hi, sabina. >> reporter: good morning, lauren. that suspect is in critical condition this morning. he has a gunshot wound to the back, also, gunshot wound to his leg now it happened according to eyewitnesses in this alley that you see behind me and people say last night was a nice night there were a lot of people out. a family reunion going on nearby. so they say this was a -- the worst thing that could happen. let's go to video that we got for you last night. here's what police say happened around five past 11:00 o'clock bike sergeant and two officers were patrolling along the 2500 block of north add derr street just germantown avenue they saw man with gun standing between two cars. officers say they ordered him to drop the weapon but that he

instead ran and then turned and pointed the weapon at the officers. a sergeant fired four times hitting the suspect twice. crowd of neighbors and eyewitnesses gathered they were angry and upset. unconfirmed reports indicate bricks and bottles may have been thrown at officers. now here's what philadelphia police said happened just after they were continuing to investigate. >> the time it was a male with a gun and one or two other other people and maybe a larger crowd i'm not entirely sure that male did in fact point gun at the police officer as he was running through that alley and the officer did discharge his weap weapon. >> so philadelphia police adamant the suspect turned and pointed his weapon. his gun they say at police officers. although witnesses here say the suspect never fired at the officers. again this investigation is still in its early stages we're waiting for more information from police surrounding just into what happened. but again that suspect is in critical condition at temple university hospital shot once in the back and once in the leg.

from authorities and from eyewitnesses. we do know that one suspect was shot in the back by authorities, and it happened in this alley here behind me. let's go to video though from last night that we gathered for you. now here's what police say happened. they say five after 11:00 o'clock last night a bike sergeant and two officers were on patrol along the 2500 block of alder street. they say they saw a man standing between two cars holding a gun in his hasn't and here's what philadelphia police say happened next shortly after they began investigating. let's listen. >> the sergeant gave orders for the male to drop the gun. the male started running on fo foot. he fled on foot. fled through an alley on the south end of an a block an alley between a yard an house. and at that time the male did turn around and point the gun at the officer. the sergeant i should say. and at that time the sergeant did discharge his firearm. >> reporter: again, police say that that sergeant shot about four times. the man was shot two times, once

in the back and once in the leg. he is in critical condition at temple university hospital. now, the man's friend an eyewitness that we spoke to this morning says his friend was already running away from officers into the al whole he says that that sergeant discharged his weapon. he claims that his friend never fired back at authorities and last night police did not confirm whether or not there was an exchange of gunfire. large crowd also gathered after all of this happened. a reports indicating hundreds of people here they say they were angry when we talk to them this morning. some folks in the neighborhood that they were angry that this happen. let's bring it back here live. you can see police tape still taped up at the scene here. but again one man shot in the back. police still investigating. he is in critical condition and this morning people here still upset over what they say happen we're still trying to piece together the details lauren w we get them we'll bring them to you. right now back to you. >> sabina, thank you very much. new overnight one person is dead this morning after driving the wrong way on the new jersey turnpike.

who hot. this reminds us of the age old question, what time should your kids go to bed? right? it's something a lot of parents are still trying to figure out whether getting into a routine, to heat up a cup of warm milk, play soothing music parents will try anything to help kids get the rest they need. parenting expert katie is here with helpful tips. my nieces are twins and they're 12 years old. they tell me so many stories about how they sneak into each other's rooms at night and lay in bed and talk and my brother probably has no idea they're not sleeping. >> sure. well, maybe he's hearing a little movement upstairs. and that's not a typical whether they're twins or just siblings. you know, when mom and dad put you to bed, sometimes you want to get up and play. i know my sisters and i certainly did. we didn't have like the iphone andism pad that we were sneaking, but sometimes we had like the flashlight and paperback under the cover. it certainly difficult no matter what age your child is, my son is ten months old, it's hard to get them to settle down and go

to sleep and sleep through the night, and summer kind of the wheels come off. >> i know. >> you're swimming. hanging out. >> you're going on family vacation. staying up maybe to like watch the fireworks. like i did in longport, new jersey, with my family last night. and all of a sudden it's like, back to school. we got to get back on that schedule. so routine is what you think is sort of what is important for kids. >> yes. i think that most pediatricians and parenting experts would say that again no matter what age your child is, routine is just crucial. my baby boy is ten months old. of course, we're not thinking yet about the going back to school phase. but just getting him into a routine to successfully sleep through the night. you know owe really at his age should be sleeping ten to 12 hours through the night. that kind of decreases the older that your child gets. >> okay. >> but as you're a parent preparing to get your kids back to school, yay, parents rejoice they're going back to school. you have to transition them going to sleep at a certain time and waking up at a certain time

making sure they're getting enough sleep through the night they'll be energized and ready to faux cups learn during the day. >> right now is not too early since school starts after labor day. just few weeks out. now is the time. >> absolutely m schools in pennsylvania are actually starting a week from tomorrow on august 28th so i think that starting a week ahead of time, oh, boy, your kids will probably fight you. i don't wanting to to sleep early. summer not over yet if you start to set that routine, you know, starting with dinnertime. dinnertime, bath time, story time, get in your pajamas. some families choose to say a prayer before bed. put on lull la bees or soft music, you cuddle with mom and dad, that kind of repetition and routine started a week before it's going help you when it's the night before school. especially because as we all remember, the night before school you get that excitement. >> yes. >> those back to school jitter. >> yes. >> if you're just starting that night, oh, boy, your kid is all ramped up, now my mom who was teacher for nearly 30 years she would always make us a big

the dew point in the low 60s. it's a nice day. lots of sunshine to enjoy. here we are looking at your current setup. delaware valley pretty quiet. mid atlantic northeast a lot of us starting off with sunshine because of this high pressure system off to our west. that's in control of the forecast. and that's keeping us clear and dry for today. now as we head into monday, this high pressure system is going to slide off to the south of us. and then we're going to kind of lose some of those clearing skies. because what's going to happen some cloud cover will move in as we head into our early monday morning. so the rest of our sunday looking gorgeous lots of sunshine and then as we look towards monday morning, we're talking partly cloudy conditions. into the afternoon. we could see some more clouds filtering in. a few isolated showers around two, 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon. now that's exactly when people are going to be outdoors looking for that solar eclipse. i still think we've got good viewing conditions out there because we are talking isolated showers and just a few clouds in the central u.s. unfortunately
