>> reporter: equipment error or operator error that is what we will figure out. septa's working to figure out that. septa employees are over on the tracks where that train is still remains trying to conduct their investigation, ntsb is also involved. we have spoke to the mayor not too long ago about the crash he was on the scene last night and commends emergency responders who raced to this scene to rescue passengers. it was describe as a mass casualty incident with 42 people injured after an incoming train to 69th street, slammed into another train around 12:15 this morning. one man was thinking something was just not right. >> i was waiting at gulph mills. train came by blew pennsylvania us three or four train lengths, stopped, backed up, picked us up, and same thing happened at bryn mawr. drove past. backed up, picked us up. i was talking to a guy at gulph mills and he said that is not right it never passes like. that i said something is wrong i almost waited until the next train but we got to the

course is what happened about midnight. well, it is eight hours later, everybody. the commute is still messed up bob kelly's in the studio here to give you an update on the commute this morning because it is still screwed up. >> yes. >> jenny joyce is at presbyterian hospital. she will give you an update. lauren is at the scene at 69th street. there she is. so we will start with that. >> we will start with lauren to go over what happened. >> reporter: for the first time we are hearing from the mayor who is confirming that speed may have been a factor here on the tracks at 69th street station. we are blocked here by this train but off in the distance the train involved in that accident still sitting over there and questions being asked this morning. was it engineer error or equipment failure the passenger didn't know either but they knew something was wrong when one passenger said the train blew by gulph mills station and rye versed to pick up the passengers. he said exact same thing happened at bryn mawr station.

it was too late for him to get off. right around 12:15 the train approached the 69th street station and it collided with a parked train, sending passengers flying, that man, described to us what happened. >> my face hit the wall and i went straight down and blacked out. it was loud. it hurt. i cannot tell you much more than that. >> is there blood every where. driver is all banged up. there was this one girl bleeding out of her face pretty bad. they were pretty fast, they were pretty responsive. you know, emt got there within four minutes, i don't know the elapsed time but they were real fast and everybody was real helpful. >> back in february a similar crash happened right here same station, different track. the mayor said that now has him deeply concerned, two accidents within a six month period. so he has been on the phone all morning making calls to

see if he can get some new technology installed here, to prevent yet another accident. we asked him about any updates on any injuries and he could not give us that. jenny joyce following that angle but again you can see that the train, back on track here at 69th street, and there are some delays, of course, and some detours and bob kelly has been covering but this morning the big story is out of this train station to find out if that accident inn happened. >> after the amtrak derailment there were talks to make sure they were up to date with positive train control. maybe it shouldn't take this kind of an event for these talks to happen. >> it normally does though. >> lets check with the injured >> jenny joyce is at penn presbyterian medical center. we heard this morning more than 40 people injured, four critical. >> reporter: yeah, those numbers still stan, at this point we don't know how many patients have been released from the hospital, we are still live at penn presbyterian where three of the trauma patient where is transported to earlier this

morning. we know at lee one of those has been treated and released. that is the train operator. upper darby officials say they don't have any updated conditions for us at this time septa says that the trains conductor, initially, one of the patients has been released other 38 were transported to hospitals for minor injuries. several hospitals to name a few. delaware county memorial, taylor hospital, springfield hospital, bryn mawr, and hup, earlier this morning, the mayor of upper darby and the fire chief spoke with reporters at the scene of the crash and they shared details, related to injuries, and emergency transports, from that scene. >> all of the resources of upper darby township came together, when the mass announced. police units, fire department units, paramedics from the local hospitals, local ambulance cores, emergency management, all across the spectrum, this is not an unusual location for us to conduct emergency operations. we have been true the mass casualty incident response

no express service. it is as a result of that early morning accident that occurred at the 69th street transportation center. only the norristown high speed line, is impacted this morning here's a live look at i-95, a mess, northbound lanes, accident, right here, approaching allegheny avenue. it looks like only the far right lane getting on through, now what is tough here police are trying to get to this accident, there is no shoulder , that is tough part about these construction zones when there is no shoulder for the police and emergency crews to come up. northbound i-95 jammed from center city heading north up toward allegheny avenue. accident south on the 42 freeway working your way in toward south jersey, also delays along 295, as you work your way up toward route 38. double bubble at the stadium area today phillies playing a double header, first pitch at first game is 4:05 and then we have a concerts across the street later on jammo in south

we want to update on the break ing news we have been covering since overnight, 42 people were injured after a septa train collision in upper darby happened right after midnight. this is of the 69th street terminal, authorities say inbound norristown high speed line train crashed in an unoccupied parked train at the station, at least four people, were seriously injured. >> yeah, most of the victims were taken to two or three different hospitals. causes under investigation, that goes without saying. is the commute still being affected, bob kelly? >> yes, it has, 8:31.

maybe throughout the rest of the day and evening, norristown high speed line right now trains running every 20 minutes, no express services. so all trains making all stops , again, the accident occurred right here at the upper darby 69th street terminal. here's a wide view of the transportation center, three of the platform tracks that are used for norristown high speed line, one is not in service, that is where the accident, train sits only using two of the three available tracks. here's that loop from the market frankford line so famous from the accident just a few months ago. two separate accidents on i-95 right now, in the construction zone. this is first one, northbound i-95, i counted seven cars here right here near girard avenue. now this happened because of an accident a little further north of here, so right now, we are bumper to bumper from center city all the way up. we have got accident number one, accident number two, both in the construction zone along
