3:02 am
>> it is that is the difference between doing something and getting in trouble. that is why you need a summons drop-off. >> is new york city regressing back? murders were up around $2000 a year and it dropped precipitously after rudy giuliani. >> so we don't want to see that. but it is about quality and that is not really what we were dealing with here.
3:03 am
that is a problem. >> thank you, joe. it is always good to see you. let me introduce our panel tonight. we have a panel of experts and political strategists. always good to see you. let's start with you. and it seems like bill de blasio is under a lot of pressure. how much is appropriate to put on the mayor? >> the mayor is going around touting his affordable housing plan and creating units throughout the city. out of all of those, only 14% are catering to low income new yorkers. you cannot tackle the homelessness crisis without first tackling the housing crisis. >> is bill de blasio a complete fraud enact he acted like he is a champion of the lower income. >> he bears a lot of the responsibility. he is the mayor.
3:04 am
and i think that there are some things that can be done that do not involve criminal elements or a ticket, that the mayor can instruct his police force and how to deal with. i think that we have homeless resources. but are we directing these folks? >> i am looking at these pictures. i don't know if this guy has a nice, i don't know if he is mentally stable. >> would you feel safe? >> absolutely not. i think the mayor and the officials from the mta really need to do what he did. we all talk about him policing. but you don't have to arrest the guy, take them off the subway. maintain order. >> so what you are saying is what they are doing now is not working. they are off by 90% on these low-level offenses. you have leaders and voices in the city council. and it is not a quality-of-life
3:05 am
issue. >> numerous studies have been done to show that it does not work. but the guy clearly needs help. we do not know that his addiction. we don't know if it is overpriced housing. >> we have to leave it there. they do. >> the race is on and only two weeks away. and it is eating up and getting close. some show it as a single-digit race. the stars are lined up to help bill murphy including president clinton who is campaigning for the former ambassador to germany. >> another campaigner for phil murphy. a republican, fending for herself, kim guadango.
3:06 am
most recently she called subband sanctuary cities across the state. some say phil murphy wants to expand. >> i thought it was time to stand up and say that century cities are bad for everyone. well, he thought it through. >> some say that she is taken up play out of president trump spoke. agents arrested 36 illegal immigrants previously arrested and charged with crimes. a recent report shows reality of illegal immigration migrants can be seen in the u.s. >> a small group of three people. the girl there with the pink backpack. >> will immigration resonate with new jersey voters? he told voters that the tactic
3:07 am
is simply to scare away people from voting booths. >> if i can scare the living daylights out of our so-called phase, it is not a bad word for it. and i can get 90% of them to vote and will make 15% of everyone else and still win. >> low voter turnout is a fear for democrats, especially considering that this is 13% of the 6 million registered voters came out during the june primaries. >> thank you, diana. bringing in an expert on this issue. an immigration attorney. welcome back to "chasing news." >> okay, so you heard this story. thirty-six people and among those, many of those folks were actually convicted of crimes. so what does this mean when you
3:08 am
hill hear him talking about this. it looks like they don't even really need the cooperation with law enforcement. >> it can mean a number of things, what it can mean for new jersey is a safer new jersey. there are studies that show that when local law enforcement creates and facilitates the trust of local communities, it works to create a safer community. so sanctuary cities mean that local law enforcement will not report individuals who are arrested with i.c.e. these are people who are arrested under suspicion, not charged or convicted. >> as an attorney if you go back to 2007 in new jersey, there was a law enforcement directive saying when someone is arrested for violent crime they have to be reported. certainly that came out of this horrific murder of three college students where they deported the
3:09 am
guy that had been arrested on child rape. they say that the murder would not have happened. >> that's not necessarily true. all individuals create crimes. to label all immigrants as criminals is racism. that is trying to paint an entire class of individuals with one brush. that's like saying all blacks are criminals or all muslims are terrorists. >> it really has nothing to do with whether or not they are undocumented. it seems to be one more label. thank you so much. let's bring in the panel to break it down. let me ask you first as a democratic strategist, i am always looking for someone to call racism, the minute they say anything about immigration. >> i think that it is an important conversation to have. we just cannot pay people with one broad brush. let's talk about public safety. if we say that this class of
3:10 am
people and everyone in it, this is the only class of people that we should worry about for prime, we are going to be missing the point. because what i hear is one more level of law enforcement who need to be out of our communities. >> generalizing this class of folks is racist and a myopic way to view those conditions. >> we are talking about criminals. we are not talking about daca. we are talking about people convicted of a public crime. >> come back to rate often. it's a constant conversation. but don't you think that it is hurting the cause of the dreamers to lump everyone together? if they are undocumented or not, we have that. and i have answered this before on the show. and he's talking about undocumented immigrants.
3:11 am
if someone is a criminal, they are a criminal. point blank, end of discussion. >> with the trial going on, this is a hot topic. and we are going to leave it there. coming up next. how about a panel about women in business hosted by all men. the internet is exploding including actress alyssa milano weighing in on twitter. plus, we will have your chilly forecast. >> let the cooldown began. the rain and wind are substantially done. and temperatures will be much more reminiscent of
3:14 am
>> welcome back to "chasing news." we have a lot more show for you tonight, including a bunch of guys burning their nfl jerseys. but first, talking about a controversy over a panel. a magazine hosting a panel about women's issues hosted by men. and the internet blew up over it including alyssa milano weighing in, saying i'm just going to leave this right here. i am putting up a picture of the panelists. it got to the point where the publisher canceled it altogether. and as a woman owned business, it has always been part of the mission statement. we believe it is helpful when everyone is part of the conversation on women's empowerment and feminism.
3:15 am
let's break this down, bill caruso is here. let's start with you, jeanette. you are a woman. >> yes, i am. >> mentioned in the weighing in on women's issues? >> it was a pr disaster. i give the magazine credit for having this women's empowerment series. but what the advertisement did not say is that it is a serious and they're having a lot of other panels with women and this particular panel had four men. >> it says a man's point of view. >> correct. >> i am telling you what people do on social media. and people don't understand that this is a whole series that they are doing. a lot of notable women are speaking during the series.
3:16 am
>> before this even got out there, he just dropped out. why? >> i think his statement was an articulate one. given the issues and how was presented, he is not going to participate. it was not presented in the right way. that being said, it is unfortunate. this could've been a good panel. they did it last year and it was a success. >> for men, women in business. what am i missing. [laughter] >> in regards to the panel, i cannot agree more. and even though an inclusive perspective exists on a lot of
3:17 am
issues, it is very helpful to move forward. >> obviously alyssa milano is not the audience. she just decided to weigh in. >> to put it on social media and then you see four men. >> here's a guy that wants to run for higher office in the state. and he doesn't even have the sense to know what he's getting into or the courage to stick it out and defend this woman who is clearly talking about women's issues. >> i think that the problem is that this thing became a disaster. and there wasn't any conversation going on that anyone can talk about. there was good that could come out of this, but it wasn't marketed right. then social media took over and burned it down. shame on the publisher. all this needed was a little bit of explanation. >> you are talking about a publisher in a small magazine in south jersey. and by the way, we are in a
3:18 am
climate where this has gotten toxic. >> a lot of these people are up in arms and they will go see bill clinton speak. >> it's such a shame. >> burn them if you got them. and that is the rally cry from some members of the american legion putting their nfl jerseys on fire over the weekend to protest the nfl. george has the story. >> the player protests are sure to continue this weekend with people on bent knees linking arms. but the fans have been pushing back. sales of tickets have been down. tv ratings and here at the american legion post, they went for much more colorful situation. >> we decided to have an nfl rally. it started out small.
3:19 am
we got up close to 100 people and we burned about 70 to 80 shirts. >> what will it take to get back on your good side reign. >> with emotions running high, the one thing that is clear is that the nfl is beginning to get the message. how they reacted, well, we will have to find out. reporting for "chasing news." >> thank you, george. let's bring in the panel to break it all down. i think that there is a a lot of dissatisfaction with the nfl's. >> the first thing, i think we have lost this issue. and this has gone off the rails.
3:20 am
>> there have been, if you look at the pictures coming out over the weekend, there is clearly some backlash. almost empty. cleveland, almost empty. >> what i love to see, actually, are these acts of patriotism in response to the nfl. they came out with big flags onto the field. i think that that is fantastic. >> i think what the region is doing -- the first thing is i don't like the way that they are protesting. the other thing is the behavior is a little bit animalistic and shows dismissiveness. >> to that point, you have a lot of people on the side of black
3:21 am
lives matter saying that colin keep her neck and get a job because of race. so they're really there are really both sides. the only person caught in the middle doing a horrible job is roger goodell. do you agree with that? >> no, i don't agree with that. >> i think that it is a broader issue. >> there is a conversation that could be going on on both sides. >> thank you for being here. we will certainly revisit this. okay, let's bring in your chilly forecast now. >> i have your calmer, cooler weather forecast for you. a cold front is through, the leading edge of cooler and drier air making things much more comfortable. overnight tonight and through the next couple of days. we have been really craving
3:22 am
autumn temperatures. a chance for showers as the storm system wingers off the coast. and again, colmer and cooler for the days ahead. let's put numbers on this forecast. tonight i think that we will on fall in the upper 50s to about 60 degrees or so. you are going to feel some coolness in the air and the skies will continue to clear. wednesday will be partly sunny as the slow-moving storm system continues to depart. then by thursday we have sunny skies, breezy, there is your seasonable autumn like temperatures. it will be chilly in the morning around 40 degrees. a wet and windy day ahead. bringing a blast of cooler air. it looks like halloween will be even chillier than it is right now. >> we have a lot more show coming up, including the story
3:25 am
>> welcome back to "chasing news." here's a look at the headlines that we are chasing for you tonight. >> a yankee fan hit in the face by a foul ball. he suffered his injury in 2011 when he had a line drive while to the face, $160,000 have taken place in medicate medical care. the senator says he will not seek reelection going forward. >> i have children and grandchildren to answer to. i will not be complicit in silence. i decided that i would be better able to represent the people of arizona and better serve my
3:26 am
country and my conscience by freeing myself of political consideration that would cause me to compromise far too many principles. >> this won't come as much of a surprise to president trump was clearly not a fan. he said i am not a fan of jeff glick. governor andrew cuomo signing the clean indoor air act. the ban will go into effect in 30 days. he says the measure creates a stronger new york for all. the mta has approved a new payment system that will replace the metro card. it will allow subway riders to use their phones directly. the mta expects to have it fully going by 2023. that is a look at some of the headlines we are chasing today. >> what an awful and derogatory
3:27 am
term used to shut down conversations from man if it has anything to do with things that women go through. and i will tell you this. one magazine decided to hold a forum about women in business. they called it a man's point of view and they had all men. the whole point was to get a man's perspective on women in business. unfortunately in what i think was an act of cowardice, one of the leading politicians on this panel decided to pull himself out of it. then the magazine canceled it. shame on the publisher for not standing up for something that could have had a positive impact on young women. there is nothing wrong with a man offering his point of view. thank you for
3:30 am
>> what's that smell? the mystery hitting parts of the city and into the suburbs. tonight, we track down where it's coming from. and robbed at gun point on the way to work. septa workers say enough is enough. they're tired of fearing for their lives and now they want protect. >> now fox 29 news at 10:00. we begin tonight with breaking news. a double shooting in south philadelphia. and two, 16-year-olds are dead. thanks for joining us tonight. i'm iain page. >> i'm dawn timmeney. those two boys died at the hospital. our dave schratwieser is live at
