it is a tough thing for anyone to go through and certainly takes a toll on the family. in this case they were a new jersey couple hoping to save your 20-year-old daughter. >> that's right, they petitioned the court to be appointed her guardian. a judge granted the wish. >> the family does not wish to be identified. this decision comes after a 30-year-old woman named ashley was ruled in court that she could not be force fed. and this judge made national history as an attorney who represented the parents of karen

ann quinlan. she fell into a coma after an evening where she took trailblazers and drink alcoholic beverages. a year later she was taken off of a respirator. a landmark lawsuit in 1975, they asked that their daughter be able to die with grace and dignity because there was no hope that she would recover. she had been fed through a tube at least 65 pounds at the time of her that. they're sharing why armstrong made the decision that he did. >> i think that it is a good decision. you have to recognize that malnutrition, and i do know this and it happens to people across the spectrum, but we need to confidently make medical

decisions that are in our best interest to i am ashley johnson reported for two centuries. >> thank you, ashley. let's bring our panel to break this down. i am joined by franklin, the chief district of staff. >> it is good to see you, all the way from nashville. >> thank you for having me. >> joe, let's start with you. this is a very difficult story. >> how real is a? >> it's very real. when i first heard about it i went through a range of emotions and it's heart wrenching. and then i thought this girl at the age of 20. >> there are people that they are trying to live up to things with. there are certainly anorexia and weight issues and these things happen all across the board.

>> everything i do on camera is related to the 10 pounds heavier. and so we are all sensitive. everything is so visual. and it's everything. just the everyday person that is not trying to do this as a career. it is tough. >> do you know of this decision? this guy represented the family in the karen ann quinlan family. and then she ended up living for many years after after they took her off life-support. >> it is probably the best decision they could make. he also made a decision a couple of months ago where he agreed that a woman had the right to send to not being force-fed. in this case, it is different. >> they say after the interview, he felt that she was not mentally competent to make the decision.

therefore giving guardianship to her parents. >> is this a dangerous precedent? it required a judge will, like in the charlie card case. the baby died. >> the judge and the doctors are trying to give this woman a treatment that she needs. you just hope nothing more happens and you just pray that she can get on her feet. >> thank you for joining us. we appreciate having you here. former president told clinton. he is in our town. clinton certainly knows a few things about politics and he has some advice. diana black has the full story. >> we are two weeks out from the new jersey governor's race. phil murphy holds a lead over republican kim guadango.

and the governor is coming under fire. >> let's bring back the panel here to break this down. it sounds cliché when you talk about this election and it seems that in this case with bill clinton, with all of these elected officials, superstars, if you will. not only was bill clinton tough on immigration, barack obama has supported many more people. >> if we don't politicize this and look at what phil murphy is saying correctly and accurately, there is no divergence of opinions here. this sanctuary city debate is a complete lie.

>> let me just get my point across. when i was prosecutor, to help the federal government to poor people, it was at the epicenter of new jersey. what law enforcement said is that we do not want the local police to act like immigration agents. if you commit a violent crime you will be prosecuted. afterwards, you will be deported. phil murphy as saying that he will not take law-abiding and decent people who have been here for 20 or 30 years. >> this goes back to 2007. the guy was arrested on child rape charges. nobody questioned his immigration. and murphy said that he had his back. [talking over each other] >> let's go back to this for a minute. he talked about this at the

election and he said the republicans are a little bit better at this than we are. and it sounds like they are a little bit behind the eight ball >> a problem with the murphy campaign is that people see that he is leading in the polls. you've got the better message. >> are you calling him a liar? >> who? >> clinton. >> he happens to be one of the highest rated politicians. >> phil murphy is an underwhelming candidate. and so they just can't put this away. sanctuary cities, 70 for% of new jersey and don't want that.

everything. >> there are a lot of alarmists. i don't think that there's any sort of similarities. at least not in new jersey because it could happen in a place like california or colorado. but there is an indicator on there that says that this is marijuana. >> the brownies and cookies. >> the idea here is about parenting. >> this stuff is expensive. and who is accidentally giving away expensive candy that is marijuana. >> the cost of living in new jersey is too high. [applause] >> thank you, thank you everyone. >> a look at your local weather forecast, your weather on wednesday isn't too bad. temperatures in the 60s, sun and cloud, going through the next couple of days and the cool air that is firmly in place is going to linger. temperatures at or below normal for a couple of days and it's going to feel like fall. perfect timing for the foliage and halloween around the corner. in the forecast for tonight is going to be a bit chilly out there. low temperatures dipping in the mid to upper 40s across the area. and high temperatures around 60 degrees, that is a hair below normal for this time of year. still a chance for a shower on thursday, especially east of the city. into friday, mostly sunny skies

with a very nice fall day with light winds, high temperatures and lower 60s. we are moving into the weekend and i think saturday is going to be another great day. it could be close to 70 degrees and then sunday is a different story. the cold front approaches and it's going to tap into tropical moisture from a storm system that is line up the east coast. sunday into monday with potential for heavy rain and wind. it is too soon to pinpoint it, but it's something that we will be watching for the end of the weekend. ♪ ♪ >> coming up next, why the naacp

being disrespectful or unsafe conditions. american airlines says that they plan to invite representatives to meet at the headquarters in texas. they say everyday americans need to provide a positive and safe travel experience. and the new poll shows that most new jersey voters don't want bob menendez back. 59% of voters believe that he does not deserve to be reelected. only 19% say they he deserves to return to his seat. if found guilty, he will be removed from office. that is a look at some of the headlines we're chasing today. >> of all of the stories that we have talked about tonight, one of them is still rubbing me the wrong way. the way to the yankees handled andy. this is a guy that got hit in the face with a foul ball. years of medical treatment and he still has ongoing problems

with his eyes. many people sue for tens of millions of dollars, trying to cash in on the misfortune. and now, nobody is going to tell me that the yankees can't afford that with the tens of millions of dollars that they throw at these professional athletes. the umbrella was obstructing his view, other stadiums have already banned them. give the guy a break. it is one thing to say read the back of the ticket, you are responsible, you certainly do not expect to have years of medical treatment after going to a baseball game. i'm saying to do the right thing by your fan, help this guy out. think you for watching tonight, it's always great to be in your living room. i will see you tomorrow night. ♪
