university with college kids wearing make america great hats and they are told you have to get out of here because you're violating our states -- i am bill spadea, this is "chasing news". the u.s. senate special election in alabama is over! it has got national attention, the president of the united states weighing in and many politicians in the area including senator cory booker went to alabama, spent the weekend campaigning for the democrats, some are saying is a bit upset their summer sang the fact that the democrat see the controversial candidate, roy moore, was expected given the million dollars of special interest money and the national attention he got from politicians and of course, being vilified are the media on a daily basis. ashley johnson has reaction from some of our local politicians. what you have for us? >> reporter: chris christie says the guy that did not

deserve to get elected, did not get elected. speaking about tuesday night historic alabama senate race. in which, longshot democrat, doug jones, defeated roy moore. roy moore continued campaigning despite accusations of sexual abuse and child molestation. >> his remarks are incredibly selfish. he was 11,000 goes down with not many left to come in. but he still would not be gracious to continue. the american people are very fortunate to have the people of alabama do the right thing. i do not think roy moore would have been held for no matter what party he was with. >> chris christie spoke about this at cooper university hospital. after he spoke at a conference on the opioid epidemic. he said this is not a bad reflection on the president although an argument could hurt donald trump the rally for roy moore. >> i think races, i think endorsements are relatively useless.for the most part. and i think in the end people
3:03 am
looked at roy d his record. the record not only in the accusations but other disturbing things on his record and things he has said. to me, that just does not belong in public life in our country. >> cory booker tweeted a photo with roy jones congratulating him.and bill murphy tweeted let this be a reminder to democrats across the country. we can compete everywhere when we stand by our shared american values. i did ask chris christie about some republicans blaming former white house political strategist, steve bennett for the loss during his support behind the former judge. all he would say was that he has a lot of thoughts about steve would not share them with me. in camden, i am ashley johnson. reporting for "chasing news". >> bill: thank you ashley! let's bring in our a+ panel. this is a journalist, first time on the show. good to have you here. and lauren, columnist for law and crime. good to see.

and frank luna, strategist. let's start with you. i see two winners in this. one, cory booker. he went out on a limb and got into this race and doubled down on it.he came out a winner with doug jones. we also see the president as a winner. i know you may disagree. the reason is now that you have a polarizing figure in roy moore that the president is not compelling and we can move on. now goes back to the republicans. >> i think you can look at doug jones and scott brown in 2010. we will get that seat back in a couple of years. i would say that the president probably nationalized the election it would not have been nationalized if he stayed out of it. and the democrat base, the republicans have the most flawed candidate probably in history of candidates of course according to reports. >> i think it is somewhat unfair that a couple of allegations came out they were

all over the map and inconsistent. no real evidence. washington post article says in 38 days this guy went from 20 points off to a disgraced politician where people throw him out. incorrectlby the way, the word pedophile. >> i do not know what roy moore did or did not do. but i will say this, generally, within the media and opinion, people do believe that he is a pedophile. people do believe he is conducting himself badly sexually. and i think that if that is the idea that people have in their mind, and still, for voters, they are still voting for this guy! they have seriously problems. >> where have we gone to his stomach and throat and accusation and you get label with it. then you get someone attacking the voters saying i don't believe it! >> i don't think the voters said they don't believe it. i think this is a believer but they do not care. that is very different. >> looking at it last night and mean 90 percent of people
3:06 am
that voted for him know it was 60/40. >> i think we are in an environment where there is a lot going on. and you have to keep an eye out on what people are saying in who they are staying and to what degree things are coming out. >> either ways, a lot of winners on the backs of accusations out there. my guess is it will completely go away when the race is over. we will see! rutgers university, sometimes they cannot get out of their own way. now, the story is that the university has decided to raise the minimum wage to $11 an hour for student employees working on campus. now, many of us thought it was not a good idea considering many working families are out there struggling, not making even that! some of the students were upset. can you imagine, they protested saying $11 is too little! these student employees they think should get $15 an hour. allison has the full story. what do you have? >> reporter: rutgers university students working minimum wage campus jobs will start the new

year th a raise. but not everyone is happy about if your protesters disrupted a board of trustees meeting tuesday. at tstudent center. [video] [chanting] >> students protesting believe they should be earning $15 an hour. >> it was about 14 minutes before the board of trustees decided to adjourn the meeting and they were not able to conduct business. they left the room. you know, the students were ableshut down the board meeting. >>reporter: rding to the present, the race wilct more than 13,000 students working on campus in jobsite libraries and dining halls. and an unrelated press conference governor chris christie talked abthe president impact on the campus. >> no one i believe can object arguments. that rutgers is not

"chasing new. >> bill: thank you allison! yes you arrighhave a couple of ideas on how we can fix the situation abductors. out of the $4.4 billion that rutgers university spends every , 24 mes from the taxpayers. some are more than $1 billion. here is an idea. how about the state completely defines rutgers or one dollar? take out the billion dollars and split it. take $700 million and o help fund teacher pensions. this is a recurring problem. teachers coming in that have idea five years, 10 years from now, if their rement will be solid. take million and a start. venting 300 million out of billion dollars and funds governor elect murphy's plan to

on! you are a student employee. you are employed at the university as a student. i think i get what you are getting at. which is, your average student worker is a young person, is not generally supporting a family. i get it. i also get it that we do not have wages about what someone transfer however, we cannot look at this in a vacuum. it is not with the student workers make. it is not really even about rutgers. it is about higher education in general. it is affordable because these are fake economics. >> in-state tuition, $26,000 a year. it is one of the highest! >> it is crazy! it has to be taken into account, student loans, prices of college -- request to that point, forget about these kids getting subsidy for tuition. we are talking about $1 billion into the budget. some of the highest state workers being paid at rutgers. i don't know what i'm getting for that money.
3:11 am
do you agree or disagree? >> i think there's something to be said about, in general, to a point about the broader view of higher education. if you look across the country it is a problem everywhere. not just new jersey. >> college is too expensive here when you get sore making eight dollars now with, 11 pumps of copy it is silly to me! >> we have a lot of show left for you tonight! how about these college kids getting thrown out of a local coffee shop because the person serving them did not like the hat they were wearing?
