hospital. the cops are not happy in the incoming mayor of hoboken says it has to stop! and a tragic story during the holiday season. a family devastated as for members of the family died in a fire. we will have all of the horrific details and the investigation leading officials to the heartbreaking cause. i am bill spadea, this is "chasing news". they were chasing and a high-speed train on this inaugural run in seattle washington to tacoma. date derailed on an overpass over interstate 5. several people have been killed. dozens injured. first responders are on the scene to reopen the highway as soon as possible and get people out of harm's way. in the immediate aftermath, the president tweeted out the need for more infrastructure investment in this country. and it does stand to reason the infrastructure investment is a

big part of some issues we have. look at what happened in atlanta's airport. 11 hours without power! invent in our own area, new jersey transit a train struck a car on the tracks causing delays for thousands of commuters on monday morning. boxes jonathan hunt has a full story on the derailment and the aftermath in washington state. what do you have for us? >> this us official telling the associated press that at least six people have been killed and also that the preliminary investigation points to the train possibly striking something on the track. a chaotic scene in washington. where an amtrak passenger train derailed during rush hour. sending at least three cars toppling off of an overpass and onto a busy highway below. amtrak says there were 78 passengers and five crew members on board. at the time of this crash. >> multiple cars and trucks
3:03 am
are struck by train cars that left the train tracks and went down onto the road. >> several other cars landed in a wooded area. completely upside down! please consider multiple deaths and injuries. the main focus at this point is on the rescue operation. the cause of the crash is still not clear. it happened on a new route which amtrak said was more reliable. >> all the more reason why we start immediately fixing infrastructure of the united states. >> some passengers to the noted that train start to shake before fell off. investigations are hoping to shed light on the tragedy. >> we trained for this all the time. we have train tracks and everything so this is a multiple agency response and a coordinated response to request the national transportation safety board is sending a team from washington d.c. to lead the investigation. in los angeles, jonathan hunt,

fox news. >> there is a new tax plan headed our way! i will tell you, for a lot of folks making less than $1 million a year, some estimates 93 percent of you will receive a huge boost to your income. as a matter fact if it passes this week, which it may coming and close the presidents desk, a lot of folks will see money in their pockets come february. of course, there are all kinds of sides and incoming governor of new jersey is not too happy about the tax plan. ashley johnson has the full story. actually what you have for us? >> the new jersey governor elect murphy says the president tax plan depressing and awful at a news conference monday at trenton. when announced his secretary of state -- >> is benefiting homeowners of the state bad for students and alums, better for anyone participating in the affordable care act. >> the house is supposed to vote today with the senate voting soon after. republicans are hoping to have the bill on the presidents desk
3:05 am
by wednesday. they want to do left local estate taxes which disproportionately affects taxpayers in new jersey and other high tax states. >> we have to keep pressing all five repupublican members o the house delegation vote the right way. we have had for up until now. we hope that we have five. we have to hope that that is the case in other states that look like us, new york, california. >> meanwhile freeholder and judge tahitia ray talked about this. >> i look forward to working with the governor to make democracy real! for all residents of new jersey. >> murphy says he is actively filling several cabinet positions. in trenton, i am ashley johnson. reporting for "chasing news". >> thank you ashley! let's bring in our a+ panel. joined by jeanette hoffman, bootable strategist and -- antoine executive director in
3:06 am
new jersey. let's start with you. the tax plan is i think, going to be huge for the middle and working class. just stripping based on numbers. the number of organizations coming out and saying look, you are not going to paper in which any taxes, if you make between 40 and 75,000 get almost a 40 percent tax cut. murphy does not like it. and do you think this is for his position trenton 2020? >> i don't know what murphy said but personally i'm not comfortable with the tax plan. i think people who are very wealthy, the corporate executives and if you are extreme chasingnews.com/tips support as they love this plan. why not leave this permanent? and also you have again, this plan is just, to show that it will hurt new jersey the most out of the entire country. >> jeanette i love the sense
3:07 am
of provisions i think the future elected officials ought to read this. you don't know where you will be. it looks clear to me that this would be a huge boost especially with the corporate tax cuts when it drops. canada did this in 2007. drop them in wages went up! >> and i think people are really not focusing on what an economic stimulus that corporate tax will be the entire country. this is how we bring jobs back to america. this is how we encourage entrepreneurs to create more jobs and businesses will grow. i think this is something that will touch everyone all income levels. of course we still have that property tax deduction that is really making some new jersey and new york elected officials upset about the tax plan. >> where they upset about the test plan is not that people are paying more than $10,000 in property tax? >> short! and we should reform amen to that bill. but this has been around since 1913. a lot of us feel like really unfair to repeal it right now
3:08 am
and raise taxes on some people. >> any investigation led by some journalists from north jersey.com came out and exposes something that well, you already know. that is politics is fully corruption. specifically, this investigation led the investigators to find that all throughout new jersey transit and government, fans of the governor, friends, allies etc. all getting pay raises and promotions. of course, we kind of know and expect this from politics, don't we? i want to bring in an expert attorney. matt rooney. also publisher of the jersey.com. what is going on two -- welcome back! >> thank you! >> nothing really earth shattering. i think they were talking about new jersey transit and the problems i have had with budgeting etc. michael back to the obama era and save the optics on it don't look good. but isn't this whatever governor does?
3:09 am
>> rain is wet, snow is called, politicians steal from us every time they get. it is been going on in every administration. all the way back probably to the colonies. the discussion i would hope at some point would involve not taking these cheap shots regardless of whether or not we happen to like the governor at the moment. and what do we do to fix it? i would suggest a great way to go would be the privatizing of governmental institutions such as new jersey transit. >> in a philosophical basis i agree but back to the point, then you expect though that the governors would be more comfortable putting their friends and allies in these positions of power? at some point, you expect the governors will need people that he trusts. >> sure! listen, if you and i are running a regular private sector business we are naturally going to hire people that we meet at networking events at a friends of friends we have an opportunity to interact with. the fact that his government i don't know who would expect it
3:10 am
would function numbers differently. the issue is accountability. okay? in a business, when you hire people just because they are your friends or allies, there's going to be a real consequence. you will make less money, shareholders will revoke. if there is no substance. >> thank you! always good to talk to you. >> you too. >> this bring back our a+ panel. do you think that they will hold inclement governor phil murphy to the same standard? an ice parting shot for governor chris christie.but will they hold him to the same standard? because nancy is radically different than every other governor in history, he will do the same thing! >> i think they should hold him and governor chris christie accountable. had hurricane sandy, the crisis with the economy and the people still struggling in the country as well as the state. when people are making 13 and
3:11 am
70,000 increase in salaries, that is outrageous! it is unacceptable and it shall stand with -- >> is it fair that you have this former risk with the interning managing a $1.3 billion project. i say, if he is a fast riser. >> you are being a little too kind!but here's the thing that makes me so upset about the situation. new jersey transit arguably had the worst year ever lester probably could've hemorrhaging qualified staff, engineer and rubber professionals to other agencies because they couldn't pay them competitive salaries. but here you have these political appointees who really are not qualified for these important positions at new jersey transit getting promoted. >> does he have a point? we have seen this as an incompetent government mess. and you have railroads across the world at work! >> i think we should focus on privatizing at the should focus
3:12 am
on finding solutions, hold people accountable and make sure we are setting the standard for the new government and administration coming in. >> i'm all for privatization but i don't think the governor elect will go in that direction. >> but you never know! >> i think the best thing you can do, is sacked the hacks and replace them with qualified officials. >> i love it! no matter what party they're in. we agree on that. we have to leave it there. coming up on "chasing news", the investigation continues into the cause of the heartbreaking, tragic death in a

>> welcome back to "chasing news" i am bill spadea. we have met him in hoboken. that's right santa con back in town. the mayor elect not happy but let's bring you an alert. the horrific tragedy in sheepheads bay, brooklyn. house fire claiming the life of a mother and three children. 10 people injured including the father and three other kids who firefighters managed to help escape from the and both tom. these brave firefighters rushed into a home that was already engulfed in flames. six firefighters are being treated for injuries. the terrible terrible tragedy. authorities are speculating now, saying that it has been an oil lit menorah. that the family was celebrating
3:16 am
the sixth night of hanukkah. i will bring in our a+ panel. we have executive director of -- and jeanette hoffman is here, political judges and also bob bianchi, former prosecutor. forget about the typical fire safety issues, with something like this, what does it do to the community? your prosecuted cases, defended people. and it looks like just a horrible accident. but what does this do to the community? >> i was an emt for many years. as a homicide prosecutor that head of arson cases the entity killing people is the bravery of the firemen is amazing. but i have to say are the most graphically and horrible cases i've handled. and patients are treated. families broken up here with holidays, supposedly the symbol, my heart is broken for the spirit is not just what these people -- but they have
3:17 am
to rehabilitate with critical injuries and hospital in the in the emotional feeling and the community. >> i think this is important talk about your family and kids. fire drills, with a fire alarm goes off you tell your kids get out of the house immediately and meet at the front tree. because what would be really terrible is tragedy when a detector goes off and you cannot find people. you should never go upstairs because of smoke travels up. having a plan of escape, planning for fire drills is really important. especially around the holidays using common sense when plugging in christmas lights. using candles and menorahs and -- >> unified extinctions but also protective clothing. people run out without shoes on and without clothing and then they cannot get out of the fire. they have letters that help you come down from the window. there are lots of sets out there you can find on google where parents can help their

children and themselves doctor but something like this happen . >> mayhem in hoboken! that's right, the annual santa con event had thousands descending upon hoboken. more than 50 people were sent to area hospitals and 17 arrested! allison has all of the details. allison, what you have for us? >> hoboken santa con, will it be no more?the idea is not far-fetched. public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and overcrowded bars. it was the scene described here in hoboken saturday at the annual bar crawl. thee annual event is nothing ne but according to hoboken police chief, it is the worst it has been in years. >> challenging of cops, spitting at cops, punching cops in the face. that is what we dealt with. pretty much for a 16 our
3:19 am
period. >> according to the police department they responded to 289 calls during the event and made 17 arrests. during the same timeframe, 55 people were transported to the hospital and 51 ordinances were issued. hoboken is no stranger to public roles resulting in mayhem. leprechaun, which takes place in march has also been a problem for the town. and then on saturday the chief sent out tweets like these are announcing arrest made and the incidents surrounding them. he says it's very important for residents and visitors to know what the police department is dealing with and how they are responding. hoboken mayor elect also tweeted about the event.he suggested that does set up sign a petition online and added he would look into this. so, is banning something like santa con in hoboken realistic? >> i think is a very realistic goal. there is some legislation, there are some penalties.
3:20 am
already, there are laws being violated. and we have to take a strong approach with these. >> no major injuries were reported during saturday's event. the police also have not received any complaints against them and the chief says he is extremely proud of how the officers handled themselves. for "chasing news" i am allison gormley. >> let's bring back our a+ panel to break this down. santa con, out of control. and in hoboken of history. not just with santa con but with the st. patrick's day parade being canceled because evil cannot act like adults. >> right. i was a young assistant prosecutor in hoboken, a single man going after listening to these tales of you know this has been going on for 30 years in hoboken. just for some reason the town is genetically structured because mayhem! people urinating all over the place. who's responsible is it though? the mayor elect is like pretty
3:21 am
much potentially saying they're not welcome next year. can he do anything about it? >> i think the drunken millennias it is their responsibility to control themselves and get it together! no one wants a drunk santa puking on the side of the street. >> this is huge for local businesses! they are serving shots and beer at 10 o'clock in the morning. they are running all day. people are buying tickets. i would love to look at the economic status of how it surges during events like this. >> absolutely. i think they have a right to be upset. i think i want to challenge him to make sure he is communicating to see what the people want to happen. i think also, we also have to look at people work really hard in the state of new jersey and they come with the family sometimes. people come to relax and they're not getting in trouble. [multiple speakers] >> 55 people in hospital, 17 arrested. the community of hoboken has always been against this. >> unbelievable! >> guys like me, criminal
3:22 am
defense lawyers. >> will be canceled like the st. patrick's day parade was canceled and like you said this is why we cannot have nice things! >> thank you guys. good to see you. all right, we have to leave it there. let's check in with her meteorologist with your cold and potentially wet and snowy forecast. >> here we are in the next-to-last week of 2017 and in the middle of a warming trend. cooler air will work its way back in. i also want to look at the upcoming christmas holiday weekend. some storm systems of note. the most important symbol on this map for tomorrow is the arrow coming out of the southwest. warmer air will continue up into the tri-state area. i think we will see widespread 50s by tuesday afternoon. unfortunately, this will be short-lived. more december air will return with a cool down starting wednesday through the end of the week. overnight tonight, i think most of the area will stay above the freezing mark. mostly in the mid to upper 30s
3:23 am
. we have scattered clouds and dry weather. tuesday a mix of sun and clouds. the further south you are, the better chance of mostly sunny skies for a bit. high temperatures reaching for the lower to mid 50s . that is about 10 above normal for this time of year. we progress into wednesday and that will be the cooldown day. not an arctic blast but we will pick up -- partly cloudy and hemorrhages in the mid 40s. we will stay dry from this and another storm system coming in on christmas day. right now it looks like mostly rain but if temperatures turn cooler it could be a white christmas. stay tuned, we will keep you posted. >> coming up, we have sports. we will break down all of the action over the weekend. quarterback in the spotlight and not so fast!

giants. the game of the day on sunday, the patriots and the steelers in pittsburgh. a finish we will be talking about well into the off-season. the steelers on the doorsteps trying to win the game in the final moments. ben roethlisberger two james for the touchdown. and the steelers have the lead, or do they? there is this crazy possession rule on pass plays now in the nfl. the replay shows he has the ball but he reaches over the line and as a touchstone for a running back but that slight bubble at the bottom of the screen, they rule it incomplete. the touchdown is disallowed. ben roethlisberger and the patriot hold on for a 27 24 win. that is today in sports. bill, back to you because you are always in possession of this show! >> thank you for watching the show checkered always appreciate you letting us into your living room every night on "chasing news". i will be back tomorrow.
