hang on to win it. >> philly sports teams staying hot since eagles won the super bowl both flyers and sixers pick up huge wins last night, close ones and how about drexel. what a come back. history made in university city last night. boy, lot of fun stuff to talk about but we have to start with serious breaking news. that is a live shot it some white hall pennsylvania lehigh county, 25 buses torched. >> twenty-five buses and they are school buses. >> amazing thing jenny joyce is on the scene and will give us a report in a bit but she said that was building that you see light poles up but there was a building there. >> we found a picture and we will show it to you in a bit here. unbelievable. so, no school, yeah, parkland school district cancelled school, we will have more in a second as alex said.
7:01 am
good day, everybody, it is friday, february 23rd, 2018. >> it is not going to be a perfect weather weekend certainly. but there are plenty of fun things to do it last weekend of february, five out of 10, yeah, yucky out there but bus stop buddy is still smiling partly because the flyers and sixers both won last night so we have got a warm coat on, because temperatures are in the 30's, upper 30's, so it is only rain but it is i chilly rain out there and in a few places, heavy rain, especially salem county, gloucester county in new jersey getting those heavier downpours right now. for us annoying rain 37 degrees. factor in the wind and it feels like 29. make sure you wear that warm coat because it hasn't been that cold all week. winter weather advisory little later on, well, starting now through 1:00 for carbon and monroe county for possibility of freezing rain but for the rest of us there are showers,
7:02 am
42 by lunchtime high temperature in the upper 40's later on, bob kelly. >> you got it, sueby. 7:02. from school buses on fire to a school bus accident. we got confirmation there were no kids on this bus but i think what we see here rescue squad tend being to the vehicle that is sideways in front of the school bus. this is a live look at the schuylkill expressway at vine expressway at 30th street station, so it is impacting schuylkill eastbound coming off and trying to come into 30th street station. the ramps from the vine expressway to get to goe on the schuylkill and 30th street are impact as well. it is that one ram that all of the roads come together and also serves as exit for 30th street. so extra time burr no kids on the bus. speaking of buses here's the location of that parkland school district letter they serve macungie township north and south white hall and then eastern side of allentown.
7:03 am
here's the northeast extension to give a location, there is allentown interchange as this is the area where kids obviously will be off from school today and jenny joyce will have very latest on the buses caught on fire in a moment. live look at delco i-95 northbound slow go with the delays at the airport as well. >> why put it off. lets get that update right now , break being news out of lehigh valley where fire destroyed an entire fleet of school buses. this is what it looked like yesterday at this time. aim not sure when this was taken but this was during the summer, spring, look at the bus, so many buses you the side but at least 25 inside of that building, do you want to know what that building looks like right now, that is what it looks like, you cannot even tell it is building, unreal. so all those buses destroyed. class won't be in session today. >> how will students get there >> so jenny's there on the scene, it is amaze to go look at the damage the whole fleet
7:04 am
gone. >> reporter: truly amazing. actually fire chief tells us it was 18 buses that were inside of this building but a total of 25 in the fleet that are now destroyed by these flames overnight. fire chief told me they had a couple challenges. one this is a remote area where we are, this is a bus depot that is behind or field middle school but thinks where they keep buses from the district. this is where they do maintenance. this i sort of the maintenance garage. because it is in a remote area they had to pull, maybe a few thousand yard worth of hoses to get up to this area they also got a late start on this fire because of its location. it wasn't until a neighbor heard what sounded like some booms and fire chief explained to me that was actually tires on those buses, popping and that why is people may have heard booms and what they thought was an explosion so fire crews responded here.
7:05 am
they heard there was smoke, when they got here wow, what did they see in the only smoke but huge flames demolishing the structure, demolishing 25 school marshals. it will take time to get answers. fire chief says maybe we won't get these answers because of the extent of the damage here, and, because there is, not, there was in one around. there was no witnesses. a lot of investigation to come back to you guys. >> that is for sure. >> all right. on to the other news that we cannot seem to forget and should not, listen to this, shocking new revelations. >> he never went in. when we in law enforcement arrive and active shooter we go in and address the target and that is what should have been done. >> that is what was in the done so that is broward county sheriff yesterday. he said only armed deputy at
7:06 am
the scene of last weeks school shooting in florida didn't go into the building. >> didn't go in. thomas, this is after they looked at some of the surveillance video that they realized this. >> he was just standing on the side of the building, no action whatsoever. this latest development only adding to the growing fears and frustration about school safety and certainly response now. just minutes before these scenes played out showing police attempting to bring order to chaos, it now appears that there was a critical break down. >> devastated, sick to my stomach. >> reporter: broward county sheriff confirmed an armed deputy assigned to the school chose to linger outside during the attack instead of trying to confront the killer. >> he never went in. when we in law enforcement, arrive at an active shooter we go in and address the target and that is what should have been done. >> reporter: that officer was suspended but consequence's parentally do in the stop there, he chose to retire, sheriff said because he now
7:07 am
qualifies for his pension. in the mishaps just don't stop there the sheriff's department had to give warning about the gun man nikolas cruz, before the attack, which parallels what appear to be failings at fbi as well. president trump renewed his call to arm select teachers and perhaps even pay them a bonus. >> in my opinion you -- these people are cowards. >> reporter: president supports raising minimum age to buy a rifle to 21a stance that the national rifle association opposes as group's ceo lash out at critics. >> their goalies to eliminate the second amendment and our firearms freedoms so they can eradicate all individual freedoms. >> reporter: that debate continue it will be another difficult day, mike abe alex. teachers returning to marjory stoneman douglas high school as early as today. students are expect back in class next week. >> all right, thomas. well, there has been a
7:08 am
shift in the coverage now a lot of people are wondering what is an officer's protocol in an active shooter situation after the revelations of what happened in south florida last week. >> you would think that would be the purpose of why they are there. to protect the students but we want to bring in captain john fine from the burlington city police department to give us insight on how these situations work and is what protocol for a situation like this. >> thanks for coming in. this is a tough spot for a law enforcement office tore talk about another officer. in an unbelievably dangerous situation. let's go through it. it seems like this sheriff has looked at videotape and sees this deputy, in his mid 50's, in a position outside of the school but never goes in, even though apparently he is hearing shots. >> right. >> is the protocol every school have a different protocol. >> this is a very touchy subject because bottom line is
7:09 am
nikolas cruz 19 year-old he is one who shot and killed 17 people. that is focus, of the person responsible. what you are seeing now is safe guard that they are looking at, in the entire incident from the fbi down to broward county where sheriff, safe guard in place what failed, and was successful. with the deputy outside obviously they looked at video they will do interviews and they will see his experience, that with his training what should we have done. i'm not in the position to say exactly. >> but the sheriff is, sheriff looked at that videotape and said he is disgusted so he must think that this guy should have gone in, even though he may be hearing a machine gun going off and he has a handgun. >> sheriff israelis very clear he believes this deputy should have went in. you have to respect that being sheriff israelis a former commander and police officer
7:10 am
and active cher i have in these situations though seeing that the deputy is only i guess law enforcement on the scene at the time when it first happened are you supposed to go in or wait for a little bit to get more information, call for backup. >> it depends on the officer's experience and his training. to say that they absolutely have, in order to go in the school you don't to have go into die. exactly what you said with the handgun, handgun is only accurate. it is train them for 25-yard. you can shoot a ar15 from hundred yard. >> if he goes into that hallway, it is in the a fair fight, an ar15 against a handgun. >> correct. >> but i think the officers i have talk to since this came out at 4:00 o'clock yesterday, they will go in. i guess that is what you signed up for to go in. >> sheriff israel thought that deputy should have went n they are suspending him without pay >> if i have a rookie that just came off a field training and i know there is a spot
7:11 am
officer, 302nd is a way would i hope to have that officer wait and more experienced officer to go in. immediately when you pull up to that scene just because you are there, all scenario, every scenario is different but if that was a brand new officer and knows there inn an officer i will call for that office tore wait so two could go in. >> correct. >> we know he was outside for about four minutes. >> yeah. >> and the attack lasted about six, i believe. >> he chose not to go in. who knows as much as you are trained, can you ever be trained knowing that there is a guy in inside a ar15 blowing people away, i are you sure you know what you would do everybody watching. >> in san bernardino one of the officers said very clear right before he went in the active shooter scenario heed to make peace with himself knowing he might in the come out. that is very tough thing to do that is what you sign up for. you know, we have very brave
7:12 am
police officers all throughout this country and and some lost their lives in the line of duty but it is not your job to go die. what you have to do you have to sign up and know is there a possibility you may in the come home. >> easier for these headlines, head line, all over america, coward cop, so easy to call somebody a coward unless you are put in that position. what would you do? >> i would have to go with what sheriff israel said. i didn't see video. he don't want to judge an officer from florida. you have a very experienced sheriff that is in broward county well men throughout the country and said this deputy should have done abc and d. you have to respect that decision. >> he probably knows that deputy, so yeah. >> so we have to go with what he says, he looked at the tape , he said he is disgusted. >> sheriff israelis a very respected sheriff around the country. he was a former squad commander. he has a very good opinion and
7:13 am
has a lot of experience. he is as well respected as commissioner ross is here in philadelphia. >> we will transition to this debate about teachers with guns. do you want to give your opinion. >> teachers with gun, you have to have a lot of research. there are school district right new they are trying to do more with less. funding, funding, funding. to have teachers with guns, what happens if a student dis arms a teacher. there has to be a lot of research, a lot of funding, are we go to go train them, what are the certifications what is the training. is there so much research that has to go to form a solid opinion right now i don't know >> good to see you. >> steve is in collinswood, new jersey talking about the same debate, steve. >> reporter: jeff cole was out here yesterday where they have two full-time guards but they do not carry guns.
7:14 am
over in upper darby where we talk to the superintendent, michael chitwood 30 full-time guard with years and decades of training but not allowed to carry their guns on their new jobs at the schools there. but one teacher that jeff cole spoke to said that teacher went to his class and said are you in favor of arming teachers. only one student out of the entire class said yes. >> it is a simple solution. obviously it creates controversy every time you mention it but every year they get trained, every year they go through psychological evaluation. there are concealed weapons. they are not walking around showing them in class. they are hand picked by school board or the superintendents but it has to be a national thing. >> i think our schools are safe places, we have procedures in place, we have structures, physical structures and procedures that we follow to keep us safe and i don't think if all those
7:15 am
fall through i dent think having a teacher with the gun will help. >> i think that everyone has best intentions and do i think people want to be solution oriented and i think all ideas are worth listening to i just don't happen to think this one is a particularly smart one. >> reporter: top law enforcement officer in polk county, florida said he will train, arm teachers in the schools. he said we have coach that he is ran to the front of their students with no gun why not give them a fighting chance. other side of this story and there is many sides what if police officer shows up, sees somebody in civilian clothes holding a gun at a school shooting scene and it turns out to be one of the teachers with the gun and they got shot by accident. so many different scenarios, possibilities and so many side s of the debate but one positive thing no matter where you stand on this is here we are more than a week after what happened down there and everybody is still talking and debating about doing something
7:16 am
at least even if you disagree with the guns and teachers. >> so many times, three days after we're not talking about it at all. i'll tell you it is the students across america are keeping this conversation going, people in their teens. >> they have been putting in work. most real for them because they went through it. >> keeping it at the information front at all of to it maybe get something done. shooting of that van load of people we talk about yesterday we will have an update now, women and children in this van in fernrock it appears to be random. not road rage or something like that. twenty-three year-old tisha timons shot and killed and so when she was shot, she loses control of the van, of course and there were three women and three children inside of it. at broad street wednesday night. five were five bullets were

the open snap chat anymore or sit just me, ugl, this is so sad. so sad for investors because that tweet sent shares tumbling down 6 percent. the wiping out $1.3 billion in market value yesterday. she tweet that had wednesday. and then this happened wednesday. so we can see correlation there. now it could be two reasons. one she's a new mom, maybe too busy for snap chat. two she doesn't like redesign of the app which a lot of people have been upset about. there is on line petitions asking snap chat to revert back to the old format. i think one had more than a million people sign that petition. she did follow-up with a tweet , still love you, snap, my first love, but that didn't help the snap. >> they are probably saying please say something, you're killing us. >> i had a snap chat, and as soon as instagram got

8:09 am
shooter was able to getaway. well, coming up on 8:09. missouri governor, has been arrested and indicted on felony charges. >> does your governor have a mug shot? well, missouri does. st. louis grand jury indicted the governor, on thursday, yesterday, for a felony violation of, listen to this, it is a privacy charge. he took some bad pictures allegedly the governor is accused of secretly taking compromising photographs of a woman he was having an affair with and then threatening to make the picture public if she exposed the affair. he admitted to the affair to his wife and the public, his second wife but denied any made any any threat to the women was having an affair w that was his mug shot we have put up there. he is refusing to stop being the governor of missouri. he said he didn't do anything that was illegal him. attorney calls the charges, base less.
