up. >> she has criticized the idea that a woman and a man would reach the same result. she expects them to reach different results. i think that's philosophically incompatible with the american system >> i totally disagree. here's of course a woman with a tremendous personal story. this is a remarkable judge. in her 17 years on the bench she has a thin record on decisions like abortion and the death penalty. democrats may put former advice president dick cheney in the hot seat with an investigation into the bush administration's anti-terrorism policies. members of congress say new c.i.a. direct for leonpinetta says cheney ordered the details to be congress. a source tells cbs news the program never became fully

operation alan that pinetta cancelled it when he learned it had not been reported to congress. d.c. city council has asked a top washington attorney to conduct an independent investigation of the contract councilman marion barry awarded to a former girlfriend. this comes six days after the woman accused barry of stalking her in and a costia park. gary nurenberg has more. >> reporter: council chairman vincent gray met privately with council members before making the announcement. >> we believe it should be independently investigated. >> reporter: he's referring to the contract given by councilman marion barry to a woman he was dating at the time. >> we want the public to be sat fire department -- satisfied that the situation has been thoroughly investigated. >> reporter: bennett led the investigation who was in charge of a high profile senate ethics probe of a case called the keating 5 scandal years ago.

the s & p 500 dropped by 3 points. the obama administration is considering using money from the bailout fund to provide further assistance to the nation's struggling small businesses. under one approach being examined the government would help underwrite loans to small businesses. another cool act to be coming to your iphone. apple is working on technology that would let users point their phone at an object and get information about it. apple would also potentially be working on face recognition to control security features on the phone as well as technology to alter an user's voice to make them sound like a celebrity. maybe you want to sound like mad on madonna. you can use your phone for that purpose. >> i'll think about that. what are you telling us in the next half hour? >> we're saving you money on a new wardrobe. who doesn't want that, right? >> i like that. i'll be listening, jessica. thank you. six lawsuits have been

filed, one seeking as much as $25 million in damages against d.c.'s cash-strapped metrorail system. 9 people were killed and another 80 hurt last month when a six-car metro train rear- ended a stop train near the rail train's fort totten station. damages could stretch into the hundreds of millions of dollars. we have an update on the story we first reported in april. two students accused of plotting to blow up springbrook high school. montgomery county prosecutors have agreed to drop conspiracy charges against 18-year-old yaneta getachu but he will plead guilty to arson and reckless endangerment for setting fires inside two school restrooms. conspiracy charges against anthony torrence were dropped when his case moved to juvenile court. nasa will try again today to launch the space shuttle endeavor. the launch team was within minutes of sending the shuttle into place last night when thunderstorms moved n the

this year. in 2008 six residents tested positive for the virus. the u.s. department of health and human services says virginia is eligible for nearly $9 million to prepare for h1n1 flu and the fall flu season. it's part of $350 million president obama signed into law for fighting the flu across the nation. the virginia department of health says at least 310 cases of the h1n1 virus have been confirmed in the commonwealth with two deaths. a study from finland finds thousands of people with schizophrenia worldwide could have been saved if doctors had prescribed them the anti- psychotic drug closapine. it found those patients had a letter risk of dying compared to patients taking other drugs. in most developed countries clozapine is used only as a last row sort. and the days of cigarette smoking gis may be coming to an end. a study commissionedded by the pentagon recommends a complete ban on tobacco for anyone in

controls. >> reporter: if confirmed she will be the first hispanic to serve on the nation's highest court. today vice president biden will accompany his wife to the thomas jefferson hospital in philadelphia. she will undergo outpatient shoulder surgery to relieve shoulder pain. the couple will spend the rest of their day in their home. the vice president returns to washington tomorrow night. today the dc woman accused of killing her four daughters and living with their decomposing bodies for months is 0 going on trial. jacks is being arrested after the bodies were found in hero house last year. they believe they had been dead since the summer before. it changed the way that city agencies deal with child social services. an fbi profiler concluded two unusual double slayings in the largo, maryland area are not connected at all.

in january, karen lofton and her 16-year-old daughter were found shot to death inside of their locked home. then in march, the bodies of delors and her daughter ebony were found in a burning car. both killings happened on mondays and within a half mile of each other but detective nelson says the similarities are just "weird coincidences. " police have no suspects in either case. the man held hostage for seven hours in leesburg, virginia is speaking with 9 news now. he says a man came to his open garage door on friday asking to borrow jumper cables and walked in with a gun saying i want your money. when the man forced bomb bob and his wife in to the bathroom, his wife grabbed her cell phone and called 911. they eventually talked spencer in to surrendering. the man said he stayed unemotional until going to church on sunday.

weekend to see a movie and maybe bruno was the choice you went to see. it was number one at the box office. i did not see it but i plan to. it is uncertain whether or not this will continue to be the number one movie because it had a big friday and a soft saturday. it came in with 3 a .4 million. second place dawn of the dinosaurs, very close and transformers in third place. public enemies number four and the proposal number five. >> probably won't stay there for long. in the middle of the week we have a big movie premier. harry potter opens this week. some theaters at 12:01 on tuesday including uptown theater on connecticut avenue and apc and the uptown showing is already sold out. if you are a harry potter fan, remember in this episode here professor slughorn makes his appearance at hogworth. and teenager hormones cause students to lose their focus.
