concerned. i will have those details soon. >> we will get back to you, howard. we are following several stories involving crash and traffic. first take you to leesburg where sky nine was over the department of motor vehicles. now, we're told that a driver accidentally stepped on the gas and drove through the brick building. the car is now out of the building and we're told the driver did not suffer any serious injuries. also, a collision between a u.p.s. truck and a car has closed route 301 in la plata, maryland. there are only minor injuries to report there. authorities have reopened the northbound lanes, but the southbound lanes are closed while the wreckage is being cleared and the small fuel spill is being cleaned up. police are dealing with a crash today in brandy wine.

they say a car slammed in to a house. the driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued. there's no word on what caused the crash. pope benedict xvi underwent surgery today after falling overnight while on vacation in northern virginia. the pope suffered a broken wrist. cbs ' charlie d'agata has the latest on this developing story. >> reporter: pope benedict xvi smiled and waved his left hand, keeping his broken right wrist by his side as he left the hospital. the vatican said the pope broke his wrist after slipping in the bath while on vacation in italy. it didn't stop his morning rue tee teen. >> this morning the holy father celebrated mass and breakfast. >> doctors gave him a local anesthetic and made a small incision to realign the broken bones. they say he will be in a cast for a month. they deny the pope got dizzy or

news now at 5:00. police are trying to piece together what happened last night. it led to the shooting of three people in greenbelt including an off-duty capitol police officer, a suspect and a 12- year-old girl. police tell us it started with a fight between the suspect and another man and then it ended in a confrontation and gun fight between the off-duty officer and the suspect. the little girl was an innocent bystander and she was grazed by one of the bullets. the u.s. capitol police officer and the suspect are both being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. now we have the latest information on that terrorist attack in indonesia. u.s. citizens are among the injured. following a pair of suicide bombings at two luxury hotels in the indonesian capital of gentleman car that. the attacks killed at least eight people but so far there's been no one to claim responsibility. joel brown, of cbs, has the

latest. >> suicide bombers struck a pair of luxury hotels in think indonesian capital of jakarta. at least eight people were killed by the blast that happened at least two minutes apart. dozens more were injured including eight americans. three of testimony were flown out of the country for medical attention. investigators say the bombers checked in as guests smuggling explosives in to the jw marriott and ritz carlton hotels. this american lives in indonesia and she was at home when the first explosion went off. >> there was smoke coming up from the area of the marriott. i went back inside to grab my camera and by the time i came out, a couple of minutes later, the second bomb had gone off. >> reporter: president obama issued a statement condemning the blast and offering help to the indonesian government. secretary of state hillary clinton, who's in the region, said the bombings reflect the

vicious, of violent extremists. no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks that left the facades reduced to twisted metal. the first hotel hit was the jw marriott, the same hotel targeted by a suicide car bomber six years ago. since that time the hotel has stepped up the security medications. this closed circuit tv tape obtained by an indonesian broadcast company shows the moment the blast happened inside the marriott. indonesia's president who has a reputation for being tough on terrorism vows to hunt down those responsible. joel brown, cbs news, the white house. >> president obama says that the work of civil rite advocates in the ' a 0s helped him to get where he is today. the president spoke to the members of the naacp which is celebrating the 100th anniversary. president obama said while discrimination is fading, it is still being felt. >> by african-american women paid less for doing the same

known practice that some attorneys say may buy you valuable time. carrie mcconnell's salary was slashed by $2,000 a month last year and it wasn't long before they fell behind on their mortgage payments. the pair tried unsuccessfully to work with their lender and soon they faced foreclosure. >> this house is a home of our kids so it is a struggle. >> reporter: the mcconnells contacted a foreclosure attorney donald stein who advised them to use three little words, produce the note. it means asking the lender tophet find the mortgage note proving that you owe the debt. >> produce the note is a legal strategy we use to force banks to show us that they are the proper party to foreclosure. >> reporter: seems like a simple request but law professor says finding that piece of paper isn't always easy. >> today's market with huge

banks and changes in the financial industry it will take the lender three, six or nine months or a year. >> in the last decade it became common for one lender to sell it to another lender. original paperwork was misplaced, or accidentally destroyed. >> in 2007 they did a study of homeowners who filed bankruptcy to try to save their house. the note was missing 40% of the time. giving families like the mcconnells the right to ask the court to block foreclosure until the lender can provide proof of the debt. this gives homeowners pressure time to renegotiate a deal, buy a new home or get their finances in order. >> i believe a homeowner should not ask the bank to produce the note until they tried every other approach. >> reporter: stein admits producing the note has only worked 35 to 50% of the time. the mcconnells filed suit against their lender anne and they hope the two will reach an

i want you to meet one of my friends today, fabian. he is the founder of advanced institute of washington. he started it many years ago with the dance theater of harlem and traveled all over the world. danced all over the world. came to washington. found this dance institute of washington in 1987 for at-risk and under privileged youth in the area and dance is so important to him. so many mothers out there know him and their daughters know him and their sons, too because you have done so much. you opened a new building in the columbia heights area. fabulous building and i wanted to honor you and salute you for all that you have done for so many years for dance and for youngsters in our area. congratulations. and thank you. >> thank you very much. it has been a real honor and a journey to be of service to young kids in the community. after having received training
