both. 9 news now digital correspondent armando trull is live in bethesda with more. good morning. >> the program has several reasons for existence. first of all, the government wants to improve the mileage on american highways and it wants to help the environment. but more importantly it wants to help car dealers like this one, imported and domestic who were struck. for everyone wanting to scrap their old battle wagon, today you may be able to do so buy a new car and get $4,500 taken off of the car's sticker price. >> get a better car that is better on the environment and get money to put down on it. who wouldn't go for that? >> the cash for clunkers program begins today and dealers are hoping a lot of buyers will go for it. >> the last two weeks i would say 50 to 80% of people calling asking for the program. >> reporter: in order to qualify the clunker must get 18 miles a gallon or less.

certainly not been part of his career or even his ethics and i have worked with him now 19 years. so the surprising thing is this even came up at all. >> reporter: the driver of the over vehicle suffered minor injuries. police in montgomery county are searching for the person who shot two people outside of a chuck e. cheese in silver spring. it started as an argue between two men outside of the shopping center on 29. the argument quickly escalated when one man pulled a gun and shot the other. a woman walking by at the time was shot in the leg. police are searching for a suspect in the murder of an annandale woman. 53-year-old chung awl was found in her dead on sunday afternoon. police say she suffered trauma to her upper body but refused to release more specific information on how she died. a man is accused of fatally shooting a security guard at the holocaust museum last

month. james von brunn's attorney said he is not well enough to come to court. they say the doctors said he might be able to come to court later in the monday. james von brunn faces a first- degree murder charge in the death of security guard stephen johns. james von brunn was shot and wounded by other guards. cynthia crawford, bank robbery suspect, is due to be arraigned today. she told a teller she had a gun at a sun trust bank and demanded money. police stopped crawford a short time later and she's been held without bond since her arrest. the fbi is investigating marion barry's actions as a city councilman. the feds are looking in to his decision to hire then girlfriend donna watts. news of the $5,000 a month contract leak following barry's arrest later this month on stalking charges.
