a horrific christmas eve crime that nearly killed a man. now the attacker was sentenced to 20 years in jail. tonight the 69-year-old victim has talked to 9news about it. brittany morehouse was there hours after the incident and filed this report. >> he was face thing way. >> reporter: wayne williams points to the very same parking lot where he was nearly beaten to death on christmas eve. >> i remember that i was sleeping, of course. napping. it was still an hour and 20 minutes before services. and my wife came to practice. i wish i had gone in and prayed. >> reporter: the sense of humor of what could only be described as a vicious attack sheds light on how the 69-year-old even survived. he took us through what happened that night. he says his priest didn't even recognize him. his face was beaten so bad. >> he asked me who i was. and so i imagine somewhere around here there was another pool of blood. >> reporter: his last recollection is that ambulance ride. >> they flat lined on w tayheo t

crimes. and we have information on the mass shooting in baltimore. it is the worst in the city's history and it happened at a back yard barbecue. police now say one of the victims was the intended target and the shooting was drug related. in all t12 people shot, including a 2-year-old girl and a pregnant woman. the good news is all are expected to survive. and we can know as early as wednesday if the woman accused of killing her four daughters will spend the rest of her life in prison. both the pros dution and the defense -- prosecution and defense ended their. she called her girls one by one. trial watchers are convinced she did it. >> the fact that she was just in the house with the kids and stuff like that and nobody else was allowed in there. >> it chokes me up to think that at some point she couldn't have just said i can't deal with this, i can't handle this, i have to take a break from these

kids. >> defense attorneys presented just three witnesses in the case. they had no comments today because of the gag order in place. moving on now to an update in the michael jackson death investigation, alou enforcement officer -- a law enforcement official says jackson's personal doctor is responsible. the source says the doctor administered a powerful anesthetic to help jackson sleep and the drug caused jackson's heart to stop. the official also said jackson regularly received a drug and investigators are working under the theory now that the drug is what killed him. investigators in cambridge, massachusetts have released the police transmissions and 911 tapes involving that controversial arrest of henry gates. officers arrested gates last week for disorderly conduct. thatfter a neighbor called 911 about asios pble break in down the street. it turned out it was gates trying to get into his own home. >> i don't know what's

happening. i just have an older woman standing here and she had noticed two gentleman trying to get into a house. i don't know if they live there and they just had a hard time with their key. but i did notice they used a shoulder to try to barge in. >> the arresting officers trournd work today. police dropped those -- returned to work today. police dropped those charges against gates soon after the arrest. we're learning more about the drunk driving arrest of alexandria's police chief. david baker was arrested just about this time saturday night. he ran a city owned vehicle into another car while trying to merge on to i66 in arlington. arlington county police say baker failed a field sobriety test and court documents say he had a blood alcohol content of .19 which is more than twice the legal limit. some residents are appalled. >> he said he only had two beers. >> he weighs 38 pounds. . welcome back. good evening, everyone. i'm tony pann. we have a little heat and humidity in the forecast for the next couple of days. nothing unusual for july. but the fra stur going to be hang -- temperature is going to be hanging around 90 degrees. tland is a chance for a -- and there is a chance for a shower and thunderstorm in the next couple of days. it will be almost exactly like today. specifically for tonight partly cloudy skies. still a slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm. there is a slight chance you can see a little rain in a couple of spots. but 90% of you watching will with problems with that. low temperatures down around 70. and it's going to be muggy overnight tonight. during the day tomorrow a mixture of sunshine and clouds. there's going to be scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. only put a 30% mark on that. the high temperatures will range grees.n 86 and 9de let's take another look at doppler 9000. there is some thunderstorms up near baltimore. a little shower right here near manassas.

this is moving to the northeast. if it holds together it may move into fairfax county. let's stwich it over and take a -- switch it over and take a wider view. we have a little cold front inching its way towards us. on the other side of the front, the air is slightly dry i remember than the air out -- dryer than the air out in front of it. we'll keep the slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm in the forecast tonight. it's actually going to be dissipating as we head into tomorrow morning. but the indication of the boundary will still be around tomorrow. we'll throwee another chance of the forecast for tuesday. that's why it feels so muggy. most spots in the 70s. it will drop back in the upper 60s in the cooler locations. here is the set up in the next couple of days. the jet stream has shifted back up to the west instead of bringing us cool air. the cool air will be centered up around the great lakes. that allows some of the heat and humidity to sneak up the coast. and you'll see that reflected in
