the pawnshop and secondhand business in prince george's county works like this -- when you bring an item in or a seller bring an item in, you have to show i.d. you have to report it to the police department and the police can come in within a 30- day period and take the merchandise back. it looks like a paperwork investigation. the owner says all of the paperwork was done and there are tickets to show all of this stuff was registered within that 30-day period. so the investigation is still going on behind me. back to you. >> thank you. now to las vegas where investigators combed through the home and office of the doctor who was with michael jackson when he died. as manuel gallegus folks, dr. conrad murray is the main focus of a manslaughter. >> reporter: d.a. agents and police officers searched the home and office of dr. conrad murray. it's the latest development in

the case. >> look for -- through the items outlined in the search warrant. if those items are -- meet the standard of what is in the search warrant itself, they will be seized as evidence. >> reporter: cbs news has learned investigators are looking for documents, commuter records or any paper trail related to dr. murray's interaction with jackson and any evidence of prescribing jackson drugs. this follows a similar search last week at a houston medical clinic where murray also works. investigators took a hard drive and documents from there. the coroner in los angeles is expected to release the details on michael jackson's death sometime this week. they said they were asked by the lapd to old off on any report pending the investigation -- to hold off on any report pending the investigation. the report centers around the powerful propofol and the

[ closing bell ] stocks lost a bit of ground today. the dow finished the day down, to close at 9096. the nasdaq was up 7 points. the s&p 500 fell 2 points. president obama is not taking a break from his push for health care reform. as karen brown reports, the president held a town hall meeting with retired residents here in washington, as a group of senators got one step closer to finding a compromise. >> reporter: president obama is pushing mission message that doing -- his message that doing nothing is not an option for health care. >> right now we spend a lot of money in our health care system that doesn't do a think for people's health. that has to stop. >> reporter: he took questions from a group of retirees.

skies, slight chance for a thunderstorm. i would only put a 20% to 30% mark on that. it will be muggy. same thing tomorrow, showers and thunderstorms. a better chance than today. the high temperatures will be in the mid- to upper 80s. sunrise tomorrow morning at 6:07. here is the weather the setup. we talked yesterday about a system that may die out or washout. it's still here. this dashed blue line. the essence of the front is still here. that could be enough to trigger a few storms. let's take a look at live doppler 9000. we're starting to see a little bit of activity up toward the i- 95 corridor here. one lone thunderstorm is producing a lot of rain. odds are if you are gonna be out this evening, you will be okay. a couple of you will see thunderstorms roll through. let's take a look at the temperatures now. 90 degrees at national airport with a dew point of 67.

a new study warns that texting behind the wheel is not just dangerous, it's extremely dangerous. as drew levinson reports, researchers found quick communications are much more distracting and hazardous than anyone previously thought. >> reporter: accidents like this one show how easily texting can cause a crash. a new study find that when drivers text, their chances of getting into an accident increase 23 times. jeff robinson is in his suv every day. he says he sees more and more people driving and texting. >> i e on the highways, everywhere. >> reporter: the virginia tech transportation institute gathered research by installing me cas to continuously watch motorists and truckers for more than 6 million miles. this truck driver, who makes his living on the road, says it's a real hazard. >> i see a lot of people texting while driving, swerving

welcome back. let's recap some of the top stories in the news now -- following his arrest on drunk driving charges, alexandria police chief david baker is resigning. he was a 19-year veteran of the force. the city manager says his resignation is effective on friday. owners of a pawnshop are disputing police claims they were selling stolen items. warrants were executed and police say the raid was part of a promise to crack down on pawnshops selling stolen merchandise in prince george's county. and investigators are searching for the fire at a social hall. byrne manor burned this morning. it hosted social events. it's nine days and county for local teenagers still

quarantined in china because of the h1n1. we spoke to the girl's parents today and they say she's the only one that's being confined to a hospital room. in northwest dc, debra and her family plead for her daughter's release from a hospital half a world away. 16-year-old leona has been quarantined in beijing after testing positive for h1n1. she was on a cultural trip with 20 other students when nine of them tested positive for the virus. >> she is actually a kid who has a pretty sunny disposition, pretty even kieled so the fact she's been sobbing her heart out over this quarantine and isolation in the hospital is a dagger in my heart. >> this trip was especially meaningful for it teen because she was adopted from there as a baby. on her first trip back, she ended up in the hospital on day
