week, law enforcement officials searched property belonging to michael jackson's doctors. among the items sought were prescriptions for jackson using possible aliases. the paper reports the prescription were written in a possible 19 pseudohim ins including brian singleton, josephine baker and jackson's 12-year-old son, prince. ben tracy has more. >> reporter: investigators moved in shortly after 9:00 this morning, searching dr. murray's las vegas clinic as well as his posh residence. he was home at the time. >> we showed up at his house. >> reporter: according to murray's attorney, investigators seized cell phones and a hard drive, looking for evidence linking him to the drug propofol. the associated press reports

early on in the investigation dr. murray admitted giving jackson prolopofpropofol severa to help the singer sleep. >> i think the noose is tightening around his neck. i think we'll see charges filed against dr. murray in the near future. i don't think there is much he can do to stop that. here's facing anywhere from a charge of involuntary manslaughter all the way up to second degree implied malice murder. i think this investigation could not be closer to dr. murray. it's literally in his backyard. >> reporter: last week when agents searched murray's clinic in houston, the warrants stated they were looking for evidence of manslaughter. they also searched his storage locker. the same day jackson died, two women were removing items from the locker. >> they were putting paper in. they were putting a few of those in the back of the car. >> reporter: dr. murray had been

living in jackson. being paid $150,000 per month. he reportedly gave the singer the drew through iv and would shut it off at a time when jackson wanted to wake up. but propofol use requires careful monitoring as patients sometimes stop breathing. >> lack of oxygen would rapidly ensue and they would suffer a cardiac arrest. the idea that a physician would be using propofol outside of a hospital setting is almost unfathomable to me. >> if i find diprivan, i am going to put on the death certificate, homicides, absolutely. >> reporter: in a statement monday, murray's lawyer said everyone needs to take a breath. things to shake out when all the facts are made known and i'm sure that will happen here. those toxicology results are expected back this week. police have not officially labeled murray as a suspect and

say he continues to cooperate with the investigation. ben tracy, cbs news, los angeles. >> a powerful car bomb caused extensive damage to a civil guard barracks in northern spain this morning. the bomb injured at least 46 people. spanish officials suspect a separatist group. on cbs money watch, most stock narcotics asia posted major losses this morning. claire leka is here with details. >> that's right. a rush of profit taking sent china'ses plunges overnight. investors are worried that the two-week rally came too far to too fast. shanghai stocks closed down 5%. the hang seng slumped 2.75%. asia's losses could weigh on wall street today. the dow jones starts the day off 12 points. the tech-heavy nasdaq was up

eight. this morning we get the latest durable goods numbers which probably fell in june for the first time in three months. watch out google, microsoft and yahoo! are on the verge of sealing a long-awaited search deal. the "wall street journal" reports the partnership is expected to be announced as early as today. the companies would share revenue generated by search ads on their website. and yahoo! would use microsoft's search engine bing. microsoft made a failed attempt to buy yahoo! last year for $47.5 billion. japanese automaker honda reported a 96% drop in first quarter profits. the tokyo-based company does not seem worried. honda raised its full-year forecast. could the worst of the housing slump be over? a report out says home prices in 20 major cities are up a bit for the first time in nearly three years. americans are still worried. a survey finds confidence in the

economy, which had been rising along with stock prices, is now down for the second straight month. the reason? growing unemployment. with nest eggs shrinking and medical costs rising, older americans are going deeper into debt. a study says low and middle-income seniors had a credit card debt of more than $10,000. there is a new wrinkle in the health care debate. some lawmakers want to impose a 10% excise tax on cosmetic procedures, including tummy tux, nose jobs and botox. they say the tax would go toward paying the $1 trillion tax for health care reform. michelle, americans spent more than $10 billion on plastic surgery procedures alone. that could rake in $100 million. >> that could be a lot of money. claire leka here in new york, thanks. meanwhile, president obama pushes health care reform today at town hall meetings in north carolina and virginia.

the effort remains a struggle. any chance for a congressional vote before the summer recess has become a faint hope. susan roberts is in washington with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: michelle, good morning to you. seven hours of closed talks on the hill last night between leading house democrats and the white house chief of staff ended with no deal. lawmakers emerged with the same merge, we're making progress. president obama is taking his fight to health care reform back on the road. >> we've got to get a better bang for our health care dollar. >> reporter: a day after he made his case in d.c., the president will make the rounds again today at town hall meetings in north carolina and virginia. many americans in other parts of the country are also joining in on the call to overhaul the nation's health care system. >> within the state of wisconsin alone, there's over 13,500 medical bankruptcies annually. most of the people started out with some sort of medical insurance. >> reporter: time is running out for lawmakers to meet the president's august deadline.

yesterday key lawmakers admitted there is little chance for them to reach a compromise in time. republicans are also not ready to give in yet. >> we need to take our time and get it right. i don't think we're there yet. >> reporter: recent polls suggest a downturn in some public support. in colorado, hundreds rallied against the proposal, including this cancer survivor, who says he would have died if he had relied on a government health care plan. >> what happens when the government steps in to sort of run a health care plan is they decide what they're going to pay for a certain procedure. if that isn't the market price, then a doctor just chooses to not provide that procedure. >> reporter: despite the opposition and ongoing negotiations on capitol hill, president obama remains optimistic. he insists lawmakers have made a great deal of progress in the last few months and that health care reform is closer than ever. the negotiations will continue first thing this morning in the speaker's office. the white house is now focused on the commerce committee

main stock markets this morning. the shanghai closed down 5%. japanese auto giant honda reported a 96 drop in profits. they blame falling auto sales and a strong yen. as we reported, law enforcement officials investigating michael jackson's death are focusing on his doctor and a powerful drug he was given. jonathan martinez of our las vegas station reports.rn >> reporter: it was an early start to the morning for investigators who descended on both the home and medical offices of dr. conrad murray. according to authorities, federal, state and local agents worked to simultaneously serve a document search warrant at both locations. >> they're looking through all the documents and everything else at this time. >> reporter: everything else including computer hard drives and cell phones, according to the doctor's attorney. investigators say they were searching for anything that tied the doctor to the ongoing death investigation of michael

jackson. in the upscale country club community where the doctor lives with cam corders in hand, neighbors only watched in amazement as patrol cars lined the block and one after another agents made their way into his home. >> history in the making. this is a once in a lifetime event. the king of pop is dead. this might be the person who's responsible for his death. >> reporter: authorities say dr. murray was home during the raid. in fact, the doctor seemingly helpful opening the gates for investigators. >> according to l.a., he's been cooperative the whole time. he was home and there were no incidents at that residence. >> reporter: investigators have focused on the doctor since jackson's death but they have yet to call him a suspect or the investigation a murder case. after spending three and a half hours at dr. murray's home and more than seven at his office, agents say for now they have completed their searchers. >> from what i see here on our end, whatever they needed at the residence, they took. whatever they needed here, they took. >> reporter: just what all they found and what it could later
