last fall congress slammed the washington execs for flying into washington on the fancy jets only to walk off the tarmac and beg lawmakers for bail out money. >> hold onto your hat folks, now it's congress gearing up to fly privately aboard new plane already approved and being paid for by you. digital correspondent joins us from the information center. what are we talking about when it comes to the cost of taxpayers? >> believe it or not $200 million. and normally big ticket items like the gulf stream jets would require additional earmarks, but they didn't in this case because there was one already on order for an existing program. because there's no new earmark, legislation doesn't disclose which member of congress requested the two additional gulf stream jets. >> follow the money trail. where are the planes being built? we don't know exactly who requested it, but if you follow the trail you'll find someone

said there is a decenting view. i spoke with a former marine this afternoon said the jets are absolutely necessary because members of congress fly into conflict zones. now, we should point out also that earlier this year president obama canceled three replacement helicopters for his existing fleet. in the information center, 9 news now and wusa9.com. thanks for that report, an drew. after five days of deliberations, jurors have convicted former congressman william jefferson today. the former louisiana representative was found guilty of eleven out of 16 counts including bribery. you may remember this case. the f.b.i. found $90,000 in jefferson's freezer during their investigation. he now faces more than 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in october. another big political verdict is now only 89 days away. that is the verdict virginia voters will make in the race for governor. and it's drawing lots of national attention. tonight in alexandra, local republicans got stood up by the

hundreds of people marched along massachusetts avenue tonight protesting the swearing in of the iran inleader addressed parliament after starting his second term as president. protests have swept through since the election almost two months ago. tonight in d.c., protesters gathered on embassy row calling on countries with diplomats stationed in iran not to recognize his government. new at 11:00, 9 news now has learned that changes coming to the d.c. fire department. all this after crews had serious problems with water pressure fighting last week's fire at the home of former school board president. according to spokesman the department is now staffing two of the city's six special water supply companies so they can respond to all reports of building fires in parts of upper northwest and in far southeast and northeast. a 2007 report after similar problems at a fire in adams

investigated. family gathered at a frederick airplane hanger tonight to remember the four people who died in a helicopter crash in maryland. they all worked for advance helicopter concepts and flying back to frederick from a charity event with a passenger and all four were killed when the chopper crashed on i-70. nobody on the ground hurt. and ntsb is still investigating the cause. a 9 news now follow up. police in suburban pittsburgh now say the man behind a shooting spree at a fitness club left a trail of hate before leaving a trail of bullets and bodies. they say the 48-year-old referred to plans for the shooting in his online diary and left a rambling letter at the fitness club full of anger and frustration toward women. last night sodini walked into an all female aerobics class and opened fire. he killed three women, injured nine others and then killed himself. >> i didn't realize what this town was, then i saw people

running and screaming. and people falling to the floor. >> he had a lot of hatred in him. he was hell bent on committing this act. and there was nobody going to stop him. >> police say he was a member of this fitness club but had no known relationship with anyone in particular in that class. well, here's a name you haven't heard in a while. lin et, squeaky thumb. back in 1975 she was convicted of pointing a gun at president gerald ford in sacramento. after 34 years in prison she's about to be free. august 16 is the day she'll get out. for the record, she first became eligible for parole back in 1985. an update tonight on a case against a man who saw his own brother shot right before his eyes. today florida prosecutors dropped all charges against him. he was arrested after his brother was shot by a police officer on miami beach back in june. he was from wood bridge, virginia, and police are still

pump is fine. >> reporter: the charge for that $300. >> i said you know maybe i could pay you the $95 diagnose fee that you charge. >> reporter: undeterred he argued the price more when he went to pick up the truck. then he just gave up. >> and i offered to pay with a credit card and he said at this point since you're not happy i don't think i'm going to get paid i need cash. i said i don't have cash. >> reporter: he says his mastercard but no good so he used the spare key and left. the next thing he sees. >> i get pulled over, sirens, police, six cars. i said this is a dispute between me and the auto shop. >> reporter: still a citation arrest carrying a $500 fine and 18 months in jail. he came to this police substation to file a complaint against the officer that gave him that ticket and he says a sergeant superior apologized for the arrest. >> she voided the ticket like it never happened. >> reporter: but the dispute is still unsettled.
