investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. an investigation is underway after a metro worker was struck and killed while making repairs to the orange line. accident happened last night half way between the vienna and dunn loring stations. the line was shut down until the system closed at midnight. police stopped traffic along i- 66 westbound during their on- site investigation. last week metro informed the national transportation safety board about a near collision in march which sounds similar to the deadly red line crash in june. the train overran the platform at the potomac avenue station. according to the "washington post," the operator hit the emergency stop button just in time. the problem turned out to be a bad relay in one of themedder series 1,000 rail cars. the investigation in to the june 22nd crash is also focusing on the automatic train control system. in that case, the problem appears to be in the circuits

collecting debris from the planes today. this is the worst air disaster in in the new york city area since november of 2001. passengers booked on a northwest airlines flight from raleigh, north carolina to minneapolis are just glad to be on the ground this morning. their plane made an emergency landing at raleigh after it suspected bird strikes on sunday. no one was hurt and the plane landed a short time later. investigators say the raleigh airport has had six substantial bird strikes this year. the president is making his second visit to our southern neighbor. he is visiting cater ron and harper in guadalajara. they hope to work together on fighting the h1n1 epidemic and the war on drugs. america's first and third largest trade relationships are with canada and mexico. speaking of h1n1 the first

at least 40 people are dead across iraq after a wave of pre- dawn violence this morning. one attack killed seven people and wounded dozens more. another blast targeting construction workers killed ten people in the within part of the capital. pope benedict xvi described thionase say world war ii concentration camps as extreatment evil at a convention at his summer retreat. his comments came during a ceremony to remember two saints

every year 200,000 women find out they have breast cancer but they are not often told how to cope with the aftermath. in order to beat their disease, some women will lose one or two breasts but that is not where the treatment ends but one doctor insists they deserve more. when she was diagnosed with

breast cancer, victoria said she went from being relieved to perplexed. her cancer was caught early and curable. still she learned it would cost her dearly. >> i couldn't reconcile the notion that the only thing they had for my tiny, slow-growing breast cancer was to cut my whole breast off. >> reporter: it may have been the best for the disease but not for her career. as an entertainer she spent her life in the pilot and left to wonder why winning the battle against breast cancer meant she had to lose her breast. >> especially in women with breast cancer there can be a tremendous deformity of the breast. >> so dr. michael miller meets with patients at ohio state's james cancer center. he is a plastic surgeon and he says while plans are being made to remove the cancer they should be made to reconstruct the breast. but they say they only talk about those options to one in

three patients and rarely with minorities. miller says that is unacceptable and the best option is for cancer surgeons and plastic surgeons to work side by side to ensure that. >> the mastectomy is performed in a way that preserves as much of the breast skin as possible and this facilitates reconstruction. >> reporter: victoria opted for reconstructive surgery and says she is glad she did. once the cancer was gone she wanted to move on. >> i was going to make it so i didn't have to look in the mirror and think of the breast cancer every time i saw myself. >> what a wonderful world ♪ [ music ] ♪ >> reporter: studies have shown when given the option of reconstructive surgery, 70% of women wanted it. right now 35 states and the district have passed laws requiring insurance companies
