over to you. if you made it through yesterday's heat there is hope for today because as kim just mentioned it will be a little cooler. remember that baby step. 9 news now digital correspondent, armando trull , is live from a city pool in northwest washington. he has more. good morning, armando. >> reporter: good morning, andrea. the wilson aquatic center will be opening in just about an hour and as you heard from the newly-married kim martucci we have had a temperature drop from the 100s to the 90s and that's why pools like this are important for you to keep your a cool on a hot day. >> i really want to be an ice cube today. >> no kidding. the temperature hit the century mark yesterday. and while today won't be as hot you may still want to be an ice cube because the mercury will be in the low to middle 90s. so if you are going to do anything like this outdoors, drink plenty of water and pace yourself. >> i'm not pushing myself too much.

i feel it is safe. >> reporter: many pools are keeping longer hours. >> we will be extending pool hours from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 13 locations this the district. >> if pools aren't to your liking there are ways to cool off in many parks and outdoor venues. if you are staying at home make sure you have air conditioning or have plenty of fans and circulation and if your home is too hot, seek a visit to the mall, library or cooling centers. all of those places are places you can stay cool and not be in an unhealthy situation and drink plenty of water and do not leave any of your children or pets inside of a locked vehicle. that could be fatal to them. reporting live at the wilson aquatic center, armando trull for 9 news now and wusa9.com. today's heat could also slow down the commute for marc riders. csx ordered trains to slow down

during yesterday's rush hour as temperatures peaked in the high 90s. metro has ordered a safety stand down for most of the maintenance workers after an employee died on sunday night. 63-year-old michael nash wa struck and killed by k ac tr enpmwhile working near the west end of the orge enne li during the stand-down, employees who work on the tracks . are given additional safety training. the stand-down will last four days. police are investigating why a leesburg man's pit bulls apparently turned on their owner. a family member called authorities after he didn't answer his door. they found him deadin his basement. they believe his two pit bulls attacked him and they also found other dogs. >> one dog was found deceased in the house, a smaller breed dog. another dog was alive, found in a cage. >> reporter: on facebook, one f delany's friends claim he may have been trying to protect his mother's dog

from the others. police are auawto ngpsy y to results. the pit bulls are in the care of animal control pending the outcome of the investigation. michael vick will appear on 60 minutes this sunday. it will be his first interview since admitted to dog fighting and going to prison. that will be august 16th here at 7 p.m. on wusa9.com. this pit bull pup is a real trooper and that's actually her name. animal control officers say they are amazed she survived after being stuck in a plastic bag, sealed with duct tape and left in a dumpster in southeast. the dog is now being treated at the local animal hospital. a $1,000 reward is being offered to help to solve the case of animal cruelty. it is five after the hour. time for the first "living $mart" report of the morning. jessica doyle is here. she has a preview of the day on wall street. good morning. >> good morning.

it could be a cautious morning, at least for investors. we have a whole raft of information on the agenda today. economic data, earnings out from major retailers and the start of a two-day fed meeting later this this morning. the nikkei up 0.2% an the hang seng up .4% but investors locked in profits yesterday. the dow fell 32 and the nasdaq dropped and the s&p was down about three. when fed policymakers release their statement about interest rates and the economy tomorrow, don't expect to hear the recession has ended. that doesn't mean it hasn't. all of a sudden economists everywhere are talking about the other r word, recovery. but the federal reserve is likely to take a cautious approach, expecting modest growth in the second half of the year. the central bank is expected to hold rates steady. look at this beautiful mansion. going up for auction in six

this afternoon we will be building those tall cumulous clouds that look like piles of mashed potatoes. i would say by 3:00 the storms will be firing. temperatures between 90 and 9 a 5. this will be cooler than yesterday. i know, in quotes. the storms will probably take you to bed. diminishing by morning hours, lows around 70 and comfortable day tomorrow with a few storms but not as hot as what we have seen. back in the 80s. here's what you are facing as you head out the door this morning. frederick 72. that's the number at andrews air force base. stickier at annapolis, 75. as we look south and west, culpeper, 70 and that's the number in western maryland at cumberland. it is also out here. you are closest to this front. these clouds back through the ohio river valley. this system is moving toward us. again, combine that with the heat of the day and we will be sparking the storm. zoom in closer. and we can show you how the front will be moving. we have southerly winds ahead

the fall and people look at the actual legislation that is being proposed, that more sensible and reasoned arguments will emerge. >> reporter: the president is confident the congress will pass the bill after the summer break until then they are trying to clear up misconceptions any way it can. it launched an on-line campaign on monday and president obama will take his message though people with two more town hall meetings later this week. susan roberts, cbs news, washington. a big meeting tonight could help to shape the future of the chesapeake bay. environmental protection ax officials will meet with activists and other concerned citizens at saint phillips episcopal poll church. they want to establish how clean up can be reached and restrictions enforced. they want a clean up plan by the epa by september 9th.

in the news now, protesters set fires overnight in a paris suburb. they are upset over the death of a young motorcyclist killed

in a crash as he tried to flee a document check point. police and eyewitnesses claim the patrol car struck the man. authorities are promising a thorough investigation. it took four hours for rescuers in california to remove the last person stranded on a roller coaster at the great american theme park. 40 people got stuck when the roller coaster suddenly stopped. the riders had to be lowered in to buckets one at a time. no one was injured. a quick-thinking man saved the pets and children in this colorado neighborhood from a mountain lion. the man spotted the big female cat in his neighbor's shed and slammed the door. the authorities arrived and tranquilized the animal. if your computer is getting old, there is a new way. it is coming up. and a national controversy topic has found its way in to the governor's race.

by 14 points. perhaps he trails in the polls deeds is making a controversial move and talking about his views on one of the most divisive issues in america, abortion. he says it is his obligation to draw a distinction between him and his opponent. >> women for deeds sounds good to me. >> women supporters and of deeds cheered his stand on abortion rights at a news conference in annandale. >> i trust women to make these choices and i'm not afraid to say so. >> if men had somebody else to choose what happens to their body they would be in an uprise. >> we fight 15 to 30 antichoice bills and i don't think that people understand birth control is one of the main topics. >> reporter: he says mcdonnell has tried to restrict abortion rights but emphasizes a distinction in what has been a
