"this broadcast realtime captioned by becky lyon." this is 9news now. a rescue on old rag mountain. nearly 3300 feet above sea level. one of the toughest hiking terrains out there. i'm anita brikman. good evening. >> i'm derek mcginty. that helicopter rescue saved rangers from an all-day hike that would have to save a man with a sprained ankles. >> britney moorehouse with more. >> reporter: one medic had to jump from the helicopter onto a boulder, the other had to hoist the injured man into the chopper. they were ready for that challenge. >> spend a lot of hours to do these missions. they are few and far between. >> reporter: it is the kind of call that gets their heart's racing. two paramedics sharing how they wound up racing by air within hours of clocking in. >> usually there is a hoist attached. >> we are able to fly and find

him immediately. >> we tried to find a way to safely put him on the ground. >> pilot just hovers it above the area then i basically jumped off a few feet. >> reporter: and with just a few feet to maneuver or else he would fall off a cliff, all this with equipment on his back and trek ahead to reach their victim. >> i was just trying to find him because that is a rugged area with lots of large rocks. >> reporter: that's when they turned on the camera catching the moment he reached the hiker. >> there was a small clearing. >> reporter: just enough of a clearing to hoist a man out with help from another hiker. >> ankle fracture from a fall as well as lacerations on his hands. >> reporter: a rescue that depends on mother nature. >> the pilot will be checking the weather report from down here and if it is a low ceiling of clouds we probably wouldn't have deployed. >> reporter: leaving park rangers to face danger on foot. >> it is a good example here, the risk to rescuers, feels good to help not only a citizen but the other search and rescue personnel on the ground.

>> reporter: officers say those hikers did everything right. they carried extra water, had all the right equipment and used their self-phones to call 911. after the injury they both hiked to a clearing spot. >> dramatic pictures. thank you. right now president obama's signature domestic issue is health care reform. he is struggling to be heard over voices of opposition. >> now the president decided it is time to fight fire with fire at a town hall meeting of his own today in new hampshire. >> for all the chatter and yelling and noise, what you need to know is this. if you don't have health insurance, you will finally have quality affordable options once we pass reform. i don't think government bureaucrats should be meddling. that's the health care system i believe in. >> angry critics stealing much

pretty. they are quiet. they keep their mouths shut a lot. >> three people who managed the bars in question are charged with sex trafficking and forced labor. they are being held without bond and facing life in prison. tonight all nine victims now accounted for. we are talking about saturday's mid-air collision between a small plane and a chopper. both aircraft fell into the hudson river right off manhattan and late today teams recovered the final two bodies and salvaged the first large piece of the damaged planes. investigators will now closely examine the wreckage and want to review the use of airspace before the crash. >> they will look at procedures, management of this space, the communications that go on in this space because we are here and don't want to see an accident like this happen again. >> saturday's crash killed all three pennsylvania residents on the plane and all five italian tourists and pilot on board that site seeing helicopter. general motors shining the

program. >> so we can test them and build the next generation of cars of what we are seeing today. >> there still a some amount of fossil fuels being used either way. >> reporter: the existing power grid can handle charging large number of electric vehicles on one condition. >> if people recharge their vehicles at night we have lots of excess capacity. if they choose to do it during the day it would be a problem. >> reporter: for this the volt promises 230 miles per gallon with the assistance of a gas engine. otherwise, it operates as an electric car with a 40-mile range. next june san francisco and washington will be the first two cities to receive volts from the assembly line. >> absolutely. this is great. we never thought washington would be on the forefront. of course we are the nation's capital. >> some are touting the fact that cars like the volt could offer the u.s. a way out of foreign oil dependence and

bell haven 78. chesapeake beach 78. 75 out in charles town. a little more comfortable. tomorrow morning we added the chance of a shower or thunderstorm. 70s and 80s. wouldn't be surprised if you have some showers and storms before lunchtime. by afternoon we will keep showers and storms in. partly cloudy and warm. but not hot. high temperatures 85. light winds at least tomorrow. probably into thursday. look at the satellite picture radar combined we will zoom in and see some showers and thunderstorms south of us and north of us. very weak frontal boundaries trying getting south of us tomorrow and i think it will run a chance for showers and storms both in the morning and afternoon on wednesday. even as it gets south of us on thursday we still run the chance of some showers and storms. heaviest activity again across the mountains headed toward cumberland. next seven days. here we go.
