back up to speed continuing to t th beltway. you veha a metro delay at nterm work. they are single tracng between friendship heights and grove grovesnor. expect minor delays. make sure to protect yourself in parking garages. montgomery county police say car break ins are on the rise. digital correspondent, armando trull is live in silver spring with an initiative to help you out. good morning. >> good morning, andrea. in 30 minutes, montgomery county police will be handing out flyers in parking lots in silver spring like this one. it is part of a don't forget initiative. it is a crime busting move that is supposed to remind folks not to leave valuables visible in cars because this could attract thieves an thieves have been busy as of late. last month there were 20 thefts from vehicles parked in public garages in silver spring. bethesda -- thefts took place both during the day and night. the crimes have occurred in nine public garages, most near

however, these numbers are down compared to the same times last year. a charles county judge reportedly admits to letting the air out of a car tire. the car was parked in a restricted zone. the "washington post" says circuit court judge robert nailly said he didn't think it was a big deal. he left several notes on the car informing the driver of the no-parking rule. that didn't work. so the judge let the air out of one tire. the car belonged to jean washington. she works at the courthouse and thought the sign was for visitors only. now she wants answers from the judge. >> usually when someone disrupted someone else's property they are usually given a type. i'd like to know what will happen in this case. >> reporter: the la plata police chief is investigating and he is not sure if there will be any charges. the national transportation safety board is changing the time line of information. it has learned about problems on metro. last week the trntsb said it ju

learned about a safety system failure backup in march. now investigators say they learned about it after the june 22nd crash. in that march incident a driver pulled the emergency brake to avoid train collision. sentencing is set for today for a man convicted in a string of terrifying home invasions in montgomery county. jose garcia killed one of the victims francis halfenstein after hitting her repeatedly on the head. the orvictims, all women, survived. prosecutors are seeking a sentence of life without the possibility of parole. a former fairfax county police officer could face a civil suit over a fatal crash. we told you about this last february. a man da perry was behind the wheel of her cruiser when it collided with another car on route 1. teachers assistant macintosh was killed. she had the green light. her family said that perry did not have her siren on and she was found got guilty in a trial

and we join in congratulating captain garrett. kristin fisher is joining us with the story of another hero firefighter. >> i love doing story on all heros but there is really something about the everyday heros the firefighters, the police officers, they are the ones out there putting their lives on the line each and every day. we'd like to honor one this morning. take a look at this picture of prince georges county firefighter rachel ebney. she was awarded the emergency services award for a truly heroic act on february 1st of this year. i don't think we have that picture. i do apologize, but listen to this story. she had been off duty when she responded to calls for help coming from the dock of an edgewater restaurant. when she got there she realized a man had fallen off the dock in the freezing waters of south river in february. according to witnesses, she did not waste a second. didn't think twice. and there she is. you can see a shot of her right now. she jumped in the water, pulled

attended the meeting in hagerstown and 500 were kept waiting outside. things aren't much easier for republicans. iowa senator charles grassley held a town hall on health care yesterday, four of them in fact he has been accused by some on the right for selling out to democrats as well as accusations from the left that he is blocking reform movement. these days daily health care town hall meetings are turning in to shouting matches for people on bod sides of the aisle. we look at the actions being done the meetings. when it comes to booing members of congress, 44% of people call it democracy in action and 47% say it is an abuse of democracy. as far as shouting down people with opposing viewpoints, 33% called it democracy in action but 59% say it is an abuse. we want to know what you think, are people getted too heated
