. this is 9news now. >> well, for the first time in months, the redskins take the field against another nfl team. >> but their first pre-season game gets trum pd by big news off the field. 9 sports director brett haber is live with more on the game and our developing story. the signing of michael vick tonight. brett. >> reporter: you're right, derek and anita. in fact, the news started to trickle through the stadium here in baltimore around the end of the second quarter and almost immediately both up in the press box and down in the stands, that news became more important than the game on the field. after dozens of teams passed on michael vick, tonight the philadelphia eagles said dwroe michael vick. his agent confirming that the former falcons has signed a two-year contract to join the eagles. he would serve as a backup to pro bowl qb donovan mcnabb and somehow this for a catch.

his first week of eligibility would be week six. the eagles play the redskins in week seven on a monday night national tv at fedex field. you want to see a circus, brace yourself for that game. meanwhile as for this game here in baltimore tonight, not a whole lot of good news on either side of the ball for the redskins starter. never got across the 50-yard line. the defense played for two series. they gave up a 13-play drive and they a 14-play drive. joe flaco the sophomore was in for the first quarter of baltimore. he picked apart the skins to the deed of 9-1003 yards. that led to a field go. 3-0 ravens. jason campbell was in for two drievz for the red skindz. -- drivers for the redskins. not bad. this was his best effort. but the drive stalled. campbell 3-6. 38 yards before he got pulled. the ravens would go back to work

soap opera most everyone is watching? >> reporter: just hours after the stallworth story hit the internet, it drew more than 3,000 comments on espn.com. they ranged from the outraged to the more forgiving. but 3,000, surely an indication of the ongoing public passion for stories of athletic superstars dimmed by tragic mistakes. >> because they're celebrities. they live in the public eye. so everyone is going to have something to say about it. >> they follow their every move. >> reporter: follow them for good or ill. so when someone like a michael vick or stallworth screws up, you don't have to be a fan to take a side. >> it becomes so sensationalized by the media. >> reporter: but they argue that public patience with the rich and famous has declined with the state of our economy. >> people are feeling a sense of desperation and dispair. >> reporter: which can quickly

eight girls were stung after disturbing a yellow jacket nest. then a few hours later, another 16 children were stung in the same area. everyone is expected to be okay. so how do you treat a bee or wasp sting? in living well first try to remove the stinger if it's still in the skin. you can use meat tend riser, deodorant or baking soda solution. and ice cube can help with pain. for itching and swelling, they suggest a dose of benadryl. now, when should you call the doctor? if the swelling starts to go out from the sting. finally you need to call 911 if your child starts having brother breathing or swallowing. that can be a sign of very dangerous conditions. now, the secret service is not commenting tonight on reports that a man was detained for holding a sign threatening president obama yesterday. it happened at senator's haul
